Preparation and Magnetic Properties of Cu-Ni Core-shell Nanowires in Ion-track Templates

Cu-Ni core-shell nanowires, with an inner Cu core diameter of about 60 nm and varying Ni shell thicknesses (10, 30, 50, 60, and 80 nm), were successfully fabricated in porous polycarbonate (PC) ion- track template... Cu-Ni core-shell nanowires, with an inner Cu core diameter of about 60 nm and varying Ni shell thicknesses (10, 30, 50, 60, and 80 nm), were successfully fabricated in porous polycarbonate (PC) ion- track templates by a two-step etching and electrodeposition method. In our experiment, the thickness of Ni shell can be effectively tuned through the etching time of templates. The core-shell structure was confirmed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The X-ray diffraction (XRD) pattern elucidates the co-existence of characteristic peaks for both Cu and Ni, indicating no other phases were formed during preparation. Magnetic hysteresis loops measured via vibrating sample magnetometry (VSM) revealed that Cu-Ni core-shell nanowires with thinner Ni shell exhibited obviously diamagnetic character and together with a weak ferromagnetic activity, whereas ferromagnetic behavior was primarily measured for the wires with thicker Ni shell. With increasing Ni shell thickness, the squareness and coercivity value became smaller due to the shape anisotropy and the formation of multi-domain structure. 展开更多

This paper studies the critical behaviours and magnetic properties of three-dimensional bond and anisotropy dilution Blume-Capel model (BCM) in the presence of an applied field within the effective field theory. The trajectory of tricritical point, reentrant transitions and degenerate patterns of anisotropy are obtained both for the bond and the anisotropy dilutions. The global phase diagrams demonstrate unusually reentrant phenomena. The temperature dependences of magnetization curves undergo remarkable spin glass behaviour at low temperatures, and transform from ferromagnetism to paramagnetism at high temperature in applied fields. Temperature dependence of magnetic susceptibility curve is in qualitative agreement with experimental result. 展开更多

Room temperature quantum anomalous Hall insulator in honeycomb lattice, RuCS_(3), with large magnetic anisotropy energy

The quantum anomalous Hall(QAH) effect has attracted enormous attention since it can induce topologically protected conducting edge states in an intrinsic insulating material. For practical quantum applications, the m... The quantum anomalous Hall(QAH) effect has attracted enormous attention since it can induce topologically protected conducting edge states in an intrinsic insulating material. For practical quantum applications, the main obstacle is the non-existent room temperature QAH systems, especially with both large topological band gap and robust ferromagnetic order. Here, according to first-principles calculations, we predict the realization of the room temperature QAH effect in a two-dimensional(2D) honeycomb lattice, RuCS_(3) with a non-zero Chern number of C = 1. Especially, the nontrivial topology band gap reaches up to 336 me V for RuCS_(3). Moreover, we find that RuCS_(3) has a large magnetic anisotropy energy(2.065 me V) and high Curie temperature(696 K). We further find that the non-trivial topological properties are robust against the biaxial strain. The robust topological and magnetic properties make RuCS_(3) have great applications in room temperature spintronics and nanoelectronics. 展开更多

Hysteresis loops,energy products and magnetic moment distributions of perpendicularly oriented Nd2Fe(14)B/α-Fe exchange-spring multilayers are studied systematically based on both three-dimensional(3D)and one-dimensional(1D)micromagnetic methods,focused on the influence of the interface anisotropy.The calculated results are carefully compared with each other.The interface anisotropy effect is very palpable on the nucleation,pinning and coercive fields when the soft layer is very thin.However,as the soft layer thickness increases,the pinning and coercive fields are almost unchanged with the increment of interface anisotropy though the nucleation field still monotonically rises.Negative interface anisotropy decreases the maximum energy products and increases slightly the angles between the magnetization and applied field.The magnetic moment distributions in the thickness direction at various applied fields demonstrate a progress of three-step magnetic reversal,i.e.,nucleation,evolution and irreversible motion of the domain wall.The above results calculated by two models are in good agreement with each other.Moreover,the in-plane magnetic moment orientations based on two models are different.The 3D calculation shows a progress of generation and disappearance of vortex state,however,the magnetization orientations within the film plane calculated by the 1D model are coherent.Simulation results suggest that negative interface anisotropy is necessarily avoided experimentally. 展开更多

The packing density of nanowires is changed with the diameter, number of nanowires and center-to-center spacing between the wires. The magnetization reversal mechanism and squareness of the hysteresis loops of the nanowire arrays are very sensitive to the packing density of nanowires. Clear steps and plateaux on the demagnetization are visible,which turns out that dipolar interactions among the wires have a significant influence on switching field. 展开更多

Anisotropic powder was prepared with precursor (NdDy)-(FeCoNbCu)-B sintered magnets by hydrogen decrepitation, desorption, and subsequent annealing treatment. The hydrogen desorption was performed in magnetic fields of 0, 1, 3, and 5 T. The orientation of tetragonal phase grains of the powder was evaluated from the hysteresis loops measured by extraction magnetometer. Residual hydrogen content of the powder was evaluated by thermal-magnetic analysis. The powder with Hcj, Br, and (BH)max of 1138 kA.m^-1, 1.029 T, and 172.5 kJ.m^-3, respectively, was achieved under the condition of the magnetic field of 3 T. Magnetic properties of the powder, especially, the remanence of the powder, are enhanced upon magnetic fields, which is due to better orientation of powder particles and less residual hydrogen in the powder resulted from the magnetic field during the hydrogen desorption process. 展开更多

NiZn ferrite/polyvinylpyrrolidone composite fibres were prepared by sol,el assisted electrospinning. Ni0.5Zn0.5Fe2O4 nanofibres with a pure cubic spinel structure were obtained subsequently by calcination of the composite fibres at high temperatures. This paper investigates the thermal decomposition process, structures and morphologies of the electrospun composite fibres and the calcined Ni0.5Zn0.5Fe2O4 nanofibres at different temperatures by thermo-gravimetric and differential thermal analysis, x-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and field emission scanning electron microscopy. The magnetic behaviour of the resultant nanofibres was studied by a vibrating sample magnetometer. It is found that the grain sizes of the nanofibres increase significantly and the nanofibre morphology graduMly transforms from a porous structure to a necklace-like nanostructure with the increase of calcination tempera-ture. The Ni0.5Zn0.5Fe2O4 nanofibres obtained at 1000℃ for 2h are characterized by a necklace-like morphology and diameters of 100-200nm. The saturation magnetization of the random Ni0.5Zn0.5Fe2O4 nanofibres increases from 46.5 to 90.2 emu/g when the calcination temperature increases from 450 to 1000℃. The coercivity reaches a maximum value of 11.0 kA/m at a calcination temperature of 600℃. Due to the shape anisotropy, the aligned Ni0.5Zn0.5Fe2O4 nanofibres exhibit an obvious magnetic anisotropy and the ease magnetizing direction is parallel to the nanofibre axis. 展开更多

High-performance submicron-scaled NiCuZn ferrites are prepared by the solid-state reaction method through using CuO as additive. In the synthesis process, a mixture of superfine powder is sintered at 900?C for 3 h, and the obtained product is Ni Zn-ferrite with spinel structure. We observe that the particle size increases with raising the sintering temperature. The NiCuZn ferrite with relatively uniform size and granular shape has the best performance: its coercivity is 14 Oe(1 Oe = 79.5775 A·m^-1) and saturation magnetization is 48 emu/g. We also study the effects of particle size, magnetocrystalline anisotropy, and microstructure on coercivity. The method presented here is convenient and economical for producing the high-permeability ferrite powders. 展开更多

Ordered Ni70Fe30 nanowire array was fabricated in a porous alumina template by alternating current electrodeposition. The structural and magnetic properties of the as-obtained nanowire array were investigated by SEM, TEM, XRD, EDS and VSM. The results indicate that the as-obtained Ni70Fe30 nanowires exhibit a diameter of about 69.9 nm and aspect ratio of more than 60. Meanwhile, a preferred orientation [110] of bcc lattice was observed. The as-obtained nanowire array has an obvious magnetic anisotropy, of which the easy direction is perpendicular to the surface of the array. Moreover, after annealed, the Ni70Fe30 nanowire array exhibits an enhanced magnetic anisotropy. 展开更多

Highly ordered Tb_(x)Fe_(7)Co_(3)(x=0,0.6,0.8)nanowires were synthesized in alumina templates by electrochemical deposition method.Here,the effects of Tb content and annealing treatment on the phase composition,morphology,crystalline structure and magnetic properties were investigated.The asdeposited Tb_0 Fe_(7)Co_(3)nanowires comprise Fe_(7)Co_(3)phase.While after adding Tb,the diffraction peaks slightly shift left,indicating the infiltration of Tb atoms into Fe_(7)Co_(3)phase.After annealing,Tb_0 Fe_(7)Co_(3)nanowires still consist of Fe_(7)Co_(3)phase with a slight enhancement on coercivity.While the annealed nanowires with Tb doped present a complex phase composition containing Fe3 Tb,Fe_(2)Tb,Co_(3)Tb,Co_(17)Tb_(2),TbFeO_(3)and Fe_(2)O_(3)phases distribute in the central portion,and Co_(0.72)Fe_(0.28)at the nanowire outer walls.The annealed Tb_(x)Fe_(7)Co_(3)(x=0.6,0.8)nanowires show higher magnetic performance owing to the formation of hard magnetic phases,the interfacial elastic coupling between hard and soft phases and the coherent Fe3 Tb/Co_(3)Tb interface which restrain the domain wall motion.To be specific,the coercivity and remanence ratio of TbxFe_(7)Co_(3)(x=0.6,0.8)nanowires significantly enhance with increasing Tb content. 展开更多

In this communication,we report a synthetic approach to fabricate Y-junction Co nanowires and Y-junction Cu nanowires by AC electrodeposition using a hierarchically designed anodized aluminum oxide template.Morphology study showe that diameters of the stems and branches of the Y-junction nanowires were about 40 nm and 20 nm respectively.Structural analysis indicates that Co nanowires had a mixture of face-center-cubic and hexagonal-close-packed structures,whereas Cu nanowires had a face-center-cubic structure with a <110> texture.The Y-junction Co nanowires exhibited a longitudinal coercivity of 1300 Oe and remnant magnetization of 56%,which was affected by the growth direction and microstructure.The present method can be extended to other metallic systems and thus provides a simple and efficient way to fabricate Y-junction metal nanowires. 展开更多

These alloys are prepared by annealing amorphous ribbons and have excellent soft magnetic properties. A two-phase model is established considering the role of the mtergranular amorphous phase. The results indicate a strong dependence of effective anisotropy on the structure and magnetic parameters of the amorphous phase as well as on the size of a grains. In view of the new model, the magnetic hardening beyond the optimally annealing temperature seems to be ascribed to the de-terioration in magnetic properties of interfacial amorphous phase. 展开更多

We study the ferrimagnetic properties of spin 1/2 and spin-1 systems by means of the effective field theory. The system is considered in the framework of bond dilution mixed Blume-Capel mode/ (BCM) with random single-ion anisotropy. The investigation of phase diagrams and magnetization curves indicates the existence of induced magnetic ordering and single or multi-compensation points. Special emphasis is placed on the influence of bond dilution and random single-ion anisotropy on normal or induced magnetic ordering states and single or multi-compensation points. Normal magnetic ordering states take on new phase diagrams with increasing randomness (bond and anisotropy), while anisotropy induced magnetic ordering states are always occurrence no matter whether concentration of anisotropy is large or small. Existence and disappearance of compensation points rely strongly on bond dilution and random singleion anisotropy. Some results have not been revealed in previous papers and predicted by Néel theory of ferrimagnetism. 展开更多

We review our works that focus on the microwave magnetic properties of metallic, ferrite and granular thin films. Soft magnetic material with large permeability and low energy loss in the GHz range is a challenge for the inforcom technologies. GHz magnetic properties of the soft magnetic thin films with in-plane anisotropy were investigated. It is found that several hundreds of permeability at the GHz frequency was achieved for Col00_xZrx and Co90Nbl0 metallic thin films because of their high satu- ration magnetization, and an adjustable resonance frequency from 1.3 to 4.9 GHz was obtained. Compared with the metallic thin films, the weaker saturation magnetization of Ni-Zn ferrite thin films results in several tens of permeability at the GHz frequency, but the larger resistivity of the ferrite prepared in situ without any heating treatments has lower energy loss. In order to obtain materials with large permeability and low energy loss in the GHz range, the [CoFe-NiZn ferrite] composite granular thin films were investigated, where the advantage of higher saturation magnetization for the metallic alloy and the high resis- tivity as well as high saturation magnetization for the ferrite results in a good GHz magnetic performance. 展开更多

Ni-Fe/Cu/Co/Cu multilayered nanowire arrays were electrodeposited into anodic aluminum oxide template by using dual-bath method at room temperature. Scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy were used to characterize the morphology and structure of the multilayered nanowire arrays. Vibrating sample magnetometer and physical property measurement system were used to measure their magnetic and giant magnetoresistance (GMR) properties. The effect of sub-layer thickness on the magnetic and GMR properties was investigated. The results indicate that magnetic properties of electmdeposited nanowires are not affected obviously by Cu layer thickness, while magnetic layers (Ni-Fe and Co layers) have significant influence. In addition, GMR ratio presents an oscillatory behavior as Cu layer thickness changes. The magnetic and GMR properties of the multilayered nanowire arrays are optimum at room temperature for the material structure of Ni-Fe (25 nm)/Cu (15 nm)/Co (25 nm)/Cu (15 nm) with 30 deposition cycles. 展开更多

Highly textured Ni nanowire arrays were fabricated into anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) templates by pulse DC electrodeposi- tion. The applied voltage and pH value of electrolytes were found strongly affecting the microstrucmre and magnetic proper ties of Ni nanowire arrays. Low applied potential and pH value both prefer to form polycrystalline fcc Ni nanowires. Increas- ing the applied potential or pH value favors the Ni [220] texture and even eventually forms the [220] oriented single crystal Ni wires, while exorbitant potential and pH value will conversely weaken the texture of nanowires. The magnetic properties of Ni wires are closely related to the microstructure of Ni nanowire arrays and large coercivities more than 1000 Oe were achieved at single crystalline Ni nanowire arrays. The mechanisms for the effect of applied potential and pH value on the grain size, tex- ture and magnetic properties of Ni nanowire arrays have been discussed. 展开更多
