The Study of Formation Mechanisms of English Net Neologisms

Language evolves and develops with the development of society and the needs of people. The emergence and popularity of the Internet has affected all aspects of people's lives deeply including the way of communication, especially the development of English language. With the popularization of the Internet, English net neologisms come into being. It is of great help for people to enhance the ability of understanding of English net neologisms and improve communicative skills. Formation mechanisms mainly refer to ways of the formation of English net neologisms. The common ways of the formation of English net neologisms are derivation, compounding, abbreviation, adding new meanings to existing words, loan words, coinage, substitution and special symbols.

A Study of English Neologisms in 2015 Based on the Prototype Category Theory

With the development of science and technology, large quantities of neologisms are created. Neologisms are the result of people's conceptualization of new things based on their life experiences. Cognitive linguistics views that categorization of organisms and concrete objects are based on the prototype category. This paper takes 167 English Neologisms from Wordspy in2015 as the data for analysis and finds that these English Neologisms are characterized by family resemblances, degree of membership in category and boundary fuzziness from the view of prototype category theory. This study also has some implications for the research of English language teaching and learning.

The Translation of Neologisms From the Perspective of Eco-Translatology

Adopting Deverbalization in Interpreting Chinese Political Neologisms

Uniqueness of our political systems and tremendous changes brought about by reform and opening up are reflected in language use,so a boom of Chinese political neologisms is witnessed.Deverbalization,as the core concept of the Interpretive Theory should be adopted in interpreting such neologisms so as to convey the intended meaning of the speaker in a faithful and interpretive manner.This paper makes a tentative attempt at classifying those neologisms and elaborates through exemplification on adopting deverbalization in interpreting political neologisms,with a view to producing China English rather than Chinese English and facilitating political communication among countries.

A good translation needs not only background information but translation strategies as well. It can improve proficiency and save time and effort. As a result, the translator can achieve maximum result with minimum work. This paper focuses on investigating the translation strategies of Chinese neologisms through classifying and summarizing some good English translations of Chinese neologisms in 2015. It can help translators cope with different kinds of Chinese Neologisms so that it would be easier for foreigners to know and understand the present situation of China.

Neologism is an important part of News English whose analysis and studying is of great significance to English learning. It covers a wide range of topics varying from politics, economy, culture, war, science, and technology, with diverse genres ranging from news story, editorial to features, and review. This paper discusses the formation of neologisms in News English： abbreviation, compounding, derivation, loan words, analogy, and meaning transfer in the context of English news with the aim of facilitating language learners in learning English and better understanding world news as well as cultivating their cross cultural communication ability.

The Revival of Ancient Hebrew Words With the Revival of Israel

In this study,all the words in the latest edition of the Hebrew Even Shoshan Dictionary(2003)were scanned and ancient words that were not used continuously throughout the Hebrew strata—used in Modern Hebrew in their old or new meaning—were collected.After finding the appropriate words,we examined their incidence in the Gur dictionary(1946)to ensure that the new meanings had not existed then.We have determined the scope of usage by general knowledge and Google Search.The 99 ancient words with new meanings were identified,39 of which are foreign,according to this distribution:31 biblical words,44 words of the Sages,and 24 medieval words.In parallel with the 70 years of Israel’s independence,many ancient words were reintroduced with new modern meanings,to answer the need to create terms for the institutions of the sovereign state and for the masses of Jewish immigrants who spoke foreign languages.Most of the words are from the Mishnah period,the last period in which Hebrew was a living language and adopted foreign words from the developed and advanced cultures of its day.The article presents the innovations of words in different fields,explains it,and answers another questions.

Unique Linguistic Awareness in the Israeli Media in the Corona Days and Tishrei Holidays

The article illustrates and analyzes neologisms created during the corona period and the Tishrei holidays(=September 2020),and published in Hebrew newspapers and social media in Israel.These neologisms based on dismantling a bound collocation deliberately disrupt one or two of its features.The corpus is a collection of 32 statements containing puns and neologisms based mainly on Hebrew sources and texts from the prayer,and a minority of familiar texts.These compositions have a strong rhetorical effect-the allusion connects to the holidays and the corona virus and creates a combined message in addition to the separate messages that emerge from each of the elements.The works are innovative,surprising,enjoyable and create an ironic effect.Moreover,they are extensive and invite profound and complex thoughts.

In recent years,a large number of dialect words merged with Chinese mandarin,becoming a main source of Chinese new words and contributing to the diversity of Chinese.Targeting this phenomenon,the researchers conducted research on those words.By studying literature,sending out questionnaires,making field trips and observations,this paper analyzes the main factors influencing the dialect words'absorption in Chinese mandarin and the channels involved,summarizes the traits of their formula tion.

Translation of Spells in the Harry Potter Series

It is focused on the translation of neologism with a case study of the translation of spells in the Harry Potter series.The formation of spells are first analyzed.After a close analysis of the examples,the major methods of translating spells from English to Chinese is summarized as follows:transliteration,transliteration plus meaning,and form plus meaning,of which the last one is mostly used.In the end,two prominent factors that influence the translators'choice of translating spells are discussed,one of which is culture,and the other audience.

A Tentative Theoretical Study of Neologism
