Attentional issues may affect acquiring new information, task performance, and learning. Cortical network activities change during different functional brain states, including the default mode network (DMN) and attention network. We investigated the neural mechanisms underlying attentional functions and correlations between DMN connectivity and attentional function using the Trail-Making Test (TMT)-A and -B. Electroencephalography recordings were performed by placing 19 scalp electrodes per the 10 - 20 system. The mean power level was calculated for each rest and task condition. Non-parametric Spearman’s rank correlation was used to examine the correlation in power levels between the rest and TMT conditions. The most significant correlations during TMT-A were observed in the high gamma wave, followed by theta and beta waves, indicating that most correlations were in the parietal lobe, followed by the frontal, central, and temporal lobes. The most significant correlations during TMT-B were observed in the beta wave, followed by the high and low gamma waves, indicating that most correlations were in the temporal lobe, followed by the parietal, frontal, and central lobes. Frontoparietal beta and gamma waves in the DMN may represent attentional functions. 展开更多

The Sloane Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) has been in the process of creating a 3D digital map of the Universe, since 2000AD. However, it has not been able to map that portion of the sky which is occluded by the dust gas and stars of our own Milkyway Galaxy. This research builds on work from a previous paper that sought to impute this missing galactic information using Inpainting, polar transforms and Linear Regression ANNs. In that paper, the author only attempted to impute the data in the Northern hemisphere using the ANN model, which subsequently confirmed the existence of the Great Attractor and the homogeneity of the Universe. In this paper, the author has imputed the Southern Hemisphere and discovered a region that is mostly devoid of stars. Since this area appears to be the counterpart to the Great Attractor, the author refers to it as the Great Repeller and postulates that it is an area of physical repulsion, inline with the work of GerdPommerenke and others. Finally, the paper investigates large scale structures in the imputed galaxies. 展开更多

Social networks like Facebook, X (Twitter), and LinkedIn provide an interaction and communication environment for users to generate and share content, allowing for the observation of social behaviours in the digital world. These networks can be viewed as a collection of nodes and edges, where users and their interactions are represented as nodes and the connections between them as edges. Understanding the factors that contribute to the formation of these edges is important for studying network structure and processes. This knowledge can be applied to various areas such as identifying communities, recommending friends, and targeting online advertisements. Several factors, including node popularity and friends-of-friends relationships, influence edge formation and network growth. This research focuses on the temporal activity of nodes and its impact on edge formation. Specifically, the study examines how the minimum age of friends-of-friends edges and the average age of all edges connected to potential target nodes influence the formation of network edges. Discrete choice analysis is used to analyse the combined effect of these temporal factors and other well-known attributes like node degree (i.e., the number of connections a node has) and network distance between nodes. The findings reveal that temporal properties have a similar impact as network proximity in predicting the creation of links. By incorporating temporal features into the models, the accuracy of link prediction can be further improved. 展开更多

Background: Celastrol is an active ingredient extracted from Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), which can restrain the progression of lung cancer, whereas its underlying mechanism is unclear. In our study, the underlying mechanism of celastrol in the treatment of lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) with metastasis was investigated by network pharmacology and molecular docking. Method: Potential targets of celastrol were collected from TCMSP, Batman-TCM and GeneCard database, and its potential targets were predicted using the STP platform and the TargetNet server. Metastasis marker genes (MGs) were obtained from the HCMDB. The genes correlated with LUAD were gathered from the GeneCard and OMIM database. And the common targets among celastrol potential targets, MGs and LUAD were analyzed. The protein-protein interaction (PPI) networks were obtained from the STRING database. SangerBox and the Xiantao bioinformatics tool were applied to visualize GO and KEGG analysis. Molecular docking tested the binding affinity between celastrol and core genes. Result: A total of 107 targets of celastrol against metastasis LUAD were obtained. The core targets were obtained from the PPI network, namely AKT1, JUN, MYC, STAT3, IL6, TNF, NFKB1, BCL2, IL1B, and HIF1A. GO and KEGG enrichment analysis indicated celastrol for the treatment of metastasis LUAD most refers to cellular response to chemical stress, DNA-binding transcription factor binding, transcription regulator complex and pathways in cancer. And some of these targets are associated with differential expressions and survival rates in LUAD. Moreover, Molecular docking shows celastrol can bind with BCL2 well by hydrogen bond and hydrophobic interaction. Conclusion: This finding roundly expounded the core genes and potential mechanisms of celastrol for the treatment of metastasis LUAD, offering the theoretical basis and antitumor mechanism of TCM in the treatment of lung cancer. 展开更多

E3 ubiquitin ligases are participated in numerous processes, regulating the response to biotic and abiotic stresses. Botrytis susceptible1 interactor (BOI) is a RING (Really Interesting New Gene)-type E3 ligase that mediates the ubiquitination of BOS1 (Botrytis susceptible1), a transcription factor involved in stress and pathogen responses. Although BOI is an E3 ligase, there are reports to show that BOI interacts with target proteins such as DELLAs or CONSTANS to repress gibberellin responses and flowering without the degradation of the target proteins. In this article, we utilize diversified methods to comprehensively analyze the expression pattern, interaction network and function of BOI gene. Firstly, 1800 bp upstream region of BOI gene from Arabidopsis thaliana (Arabidopsis) genome was isolated, and fused GUS reporter gene. The resulting expression cassette was introduced into wild-type Arabidopsis through Agrobacterium-mediated transformation. The result demonstrated that BOI gene was expressed predominantly in leaves, siliques, young roots, and flowering tissues, indicating that BOI gene may be involved in multiple processes in plant growth and development in Arabidopsis. Besides, eight candidate interacting proteins were obtained from the Arabidopsis cDNA library via yeast two-hybrid technology, including EXO70E2 (AT5G61010), WRKY7 (AT4G24240), WRKY11 (AT4G31550), WRKY17 (AT2G24570), UBP20 (AT4G17895), L5 (AT1G12290), SAUR9 (AT4G36110) and TCP21 (AT5G08330). Functional analysis of these candidate interacting proteins manifested that they related to multiple pathways, including biological and abiotic stress, programmed cell death, protein degradation, material metabolism and transcriptional regulation. In addition, the results of the transient assay proclaimed that BOI protein affects the protein stability of EXO70E2 and L5 through its E3 ubiquitin ligase activity. Our results provide novel clues for a better understanding of molecular mechanisms underlying BOI-mediated regulations. 展开更多

This study proposes a novel approach for estimating automobile insurance loss reserves utilizing Artificial Neural Network (ANN) techniques integrated with actuarial data intelligence. The model aims to address the challenges of accurately predicting insurance claim frequencies, severities, and overall loss reserves while accounting for inflation adjustments. Through comprehensive data analysis and model development, this research explores the effectiveness of ANN methodologies in capturing complex nonlinear relationships within insurance data. The study leverages a data set comprising automobile insurance policyholder information, claim history, and economic indicators to train and validate the ANN-based reserving model. Key aspects of the methodology include data preprocessing techniques such as one-hot encoding and scaling, followed by the construction of frequency, severity, and overall loss reserving models using ANN architectures. Moreover, the model incorporates inflation adjustment factors to ensure the accurate estimation of future loss reserves in real terms. Results from the study demonstrate the superior predictive performance of the ANN-based reserving model compared to traditional actuarial methods, with substantial improvements in accuracy and robustness. Furthermore, the model’s ability to adapt to changing market conditions and regulatory requirements, such as IFRS17, highlights its practical relevance in the insurance industry. The findings of this research contribute to the advancement of actuarial science and provide valuable insights for insurance companies seeking more accurate and efficient loss reserving techniques. The proposed ANN-based approach offers a promising avenue for enhancing risk management practices and optimizing financial decision-making processes in the automobile insurance sector. 展开更多

The supply of quality energy is a major concern for distribution network managers. This is the case for the company ASEMI, whose subscribers on the DJEGBE mini-power station network are faced with problems of current instability, voltage drops, and repetitive outages. This work is part of the search for the stability of the electrical distribution network by focusing on the audit of the DJEGBE mini photovoltaic solar power plant electrical network in the commune of OUESSE (Benin). This aims to highlight malfunctions on the low-voltage network to propose solutions for improving current stability among subscribers. Irregularities were noted, notably the overloading of certain lines of the PV network, implying poor distribution of loads by phase, which is the main cause of voltage drops;repetitive outages linked to overvoltage caused by lightning and overcurrent due to overload;faulty meters, absence of earth connection at subscribers. Peaks in consumption were obtained at night, which shows that consumption is greater in the evening. We examined the existing situation and processed the data collected, then simulated the energy consumption profiles with the network analyzer “LANGLOIS 6830” and “Excel”. The power factor value recorded is an average of 1, and the minimum value is 0.85. The daily output is 131.08 kWh, for a daily demand of 120 kWh and the average daily consumption is 109.92 kWh, or 83.86% of the energy produced per day. These results showed that the dysfunctions are linked to the distribution and the use of produced energy. Finally, we proposed possible solutions for improving the electrical distribution network. Thus, measures without investment and those requiring investment have been proposed. 展开更多

Deep learning, especially through convolutional neural networks (CNN) such as the U-Net 3D model, has revolutionized fault identification from seismic data, representing a significant leap over traditional methods. Our review traces the evolution of CNN, emphasizing the adaptation and capabilities of the U-Net 3D model in automating seismic fault delineation with unprecedented accuracy. We find: 1) The transition from basic neural networks to sophisticated CNN has enabled remarkable advancements in image recognition, which are directly applicable to analyzing seismic data. The U-Net 3D model, with its innovative architecture, exemplifies this progress by providing a method for detailed and accurate fault detection with reduced manual interpretation bias. 2) The U-Net 3D model has demonstrated its superiority over traditional fault identification methods in several key areas: it has enhanced interpretation accuracy, increased operational efficiency, and reduced the subjectivity of manual methods. 3) Despite these achievements, challenges such as the need for effective data preprocessing, acquisition of high-quality annotated datasets, and achieving model generalization across different geological conditions remain. Future research should therefore focus on developing more complex network architectures and innovative training strategies to refine fault identification performance further. Our findings confirm the transformative potential of deep learning, particularly CNN like the U-Net 3D model, in geosciences, advocating for its broader integration to revolutionize geological exploration and seismic analysis. 展开更多

Clarifying the evolution structure of public opinion induced and spread by fragmentation in college students’ network circle group is the key to understanding college students’ online social psychological demands, grasping the development trend of public opinion, and designing targeted public opinion governance strategies. On the basis of identifying the key variables in the process of public opinion communication, DEMATEL-ISM model is used to explore the attribute positioning, relative importance level and hierarchical association mechanism of ante-variable and result variable, and then the governance strategies for fragment disordering public opinion in network circle groups of college students is designed. According to the study, exogenous stimuli, the uniqueness of discourse system, the number of spectacular texts and micro-narrative mode constituted the deep-rooted causes of fragment disordering public opinion. The unique situational and information attributes of network circle groups often become an important “booster” of disordered public opinion. The topic deviation is often accompanied with the formation of negative emotions. Unlike established lending institutions with proven credit risk management practices, P2P platforms rely on numerous independent variables to evaluate loan applicants’ creditworthiness. This study aims to estimate default probabilities using a mixture-of-experts neural network in P2P lending. The approach involves coupling unsupervised clustering to capture essential data properties with a classification algorithm based on the mixture-of-experts structure. This classic design enhances model capacity without significant computational overhead. The model was tested using P2P data from Lending Club, comparing it to other methods like Logistic Regression, AdaBoost, Gradient Boosting, Decision Tree, Support Vector Machine, and Random Forest. In the contemporary era, the proliferation of information technology has led to an unprecedented surge in data generation, with this data being dispersed across a multitude of mobile devices. Facing these situations and the training of deep learning model that needs great computing power support, the distributed algorithm that can carry out multi-party joint modeling has attracted everyone’s attention. The distributed training mode relieves the huge pressure of centralized model on computer computing power and communication. However, most distributed algorithms currently work in a master-slave mode, often including a central server for coordination, which to some extent will cause communication pressure, data leakage, privacy violations and other issues. To solve these problems, a decentralized fully distributed algorithm based on deep random weight neural network is proposed. The algorithm decomposes the original objective function into several sub-problems under consistency constraints, combines the decentralized average consensus (DAC) and alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMM), and achieves the goal of joint modeling and training through local calculation and communication of each node. Finally, we compare the proposed decentralized algorithm with several centralized deep neural networks with random weights, and experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm. 展开更多

Optical transport networks are now the basic infrastructure of modern communications systems, including the SDH and WDM backbone network of local network operators, in the case of Cameroon. Given the colossal investments required to deploy these networks, particularly related to the cost of equipment (optical fibers, transponders and multiplexers), the optimization of bandwidth and dynamic allocation of resources is essential to control operating costs and ensure continuity of service. Automatic switching technology for optical networks brings intelligence to the control plane to fully facilitate bandwidth utilization, traffic redirection, and automatic configuration of end-to-end services. This paper considers a local network operator’s WDM network without the implementation of the automatic switching technology, develops a network modeling software platform called Graphic Networks and using graph theory integrates a particularity of the automatic switching technology, which is the automatic rerouting of traffic in case of incident in the network. The incidents considered here are those links or route failures and node failures. 展开更多

This paper examines the relationship between fatal road traffic accidents and potential predictors using multilayer perceptron artificial neural network (MLANN) models. The initial analysis employed twelve potential predictors, including traffic volume, prevailing weather conditions, roadway characteristics and features, drivers’ age and gender, and number of lanes. Based on the output of the model and the variables’ importance factors, seven significant variables are identified and used for further analysis to improve the performance of models. The model is optimized by systematically changing the parameters, including the number of hidden layers and the activation function of both the hidden and output layers. The performances of the MLANN models are evaluated using the percentage of the achieved accuracy, R-squared, and Sum of Square Error (SSE) functions. 展开更多
