AInong them, 31 caseswere treated by laseracupuncture, another 31 cases were treated by pharmacotherapy, such as Antide-pressants and Antianxietics. The course of treatment for each case was 21 days. The therapeutic ef-fects, which were comprehensively evaluated with Hamilton’s Depression Scale (HAMD) and Hamil-ton’s Anxiety Scale (HAMI) as well as Clinical Global Impression Scale (CGI) in combination withtraditional evaluation of clinical therapeutic effect, indicated that treating the depressive neurosis withlaser-acupuncture can obtain sound effects with a clinical effective rate of 90. 32 percent, markedly ef-fective rate of 67. 74 percent. The global scores of Hamilton’s Depression Scale and Hamilton’s Anxi-ety scale after treatment were obviously less than those before treatment (P【0.001 ), similar to theeffects of pharmacotherapy or even much better than those in pharmacotherapy group in some aspects.Treating with laser-acupuncture展开更多

The position of Couto as a white Mozambican writer and Head as an exiled coloured South African writer, living in her adopted country of Botswana, provides them with privileged neutrality from which to view the effect of the admixture of grinding poverty and violence as they ravage the landscapes of these countries. While Couto does not fail to incorporate the significance of power struggle between FRELIMO (Front for the Liberation of Mozambique) and RENAMO (Mozambique National Resistance) in the ~'oices Made Night, Head's articulation of the complex manipulation of power becomes a resource for constructing a discourse of nationalism in Tales of Tenderness and Power. The paper intends to focus on the correlation between power and economic development in these anthologies. The paper will further examine how political power impacts on the socio-economic well being of the local folks in the Couto's Mozambique and Head's South Africa.展开更多

Methods Thirty-eight patients with cardiac neurosis were selected for treatment through acupuncture at PC 6 in combination with respiratory reinforcing and reducing method. With twice per day, treated for 6 days per week, and 4 weeks as one course, the therapeutic effect was assessed after one course. Results Twenty-one cases were cured, 15 cases were remarkably improved, and 2 cases were failed. The total effective rate was 94.7%. Conclusion Acupuncture at PC 6 in combination with respiratory reinforcing and reducing method is effective in treatment of cardiac neurosis.展开更多

Methods: Eightysix GAD patients with the diagnosis agreeing with the inclusion criteria were assigned, according to the sequence of visiting time, to three groups. The 29 patients in the Western medicine group were treated mainly with fluoxetine or paroxetine, Alprazolam might be given additionally in severe conditions if necessary; the 29 patients in the needling group received J3N therapy with Sishenzhen, Dingshenzhen, Neiguan (PC6), Shenmen (HT7) and Sanyinjiao (SP6) as the chief acupoints selected; and the 28 patients in the combined treatment group were treated with both drugs and needling in the same way as applied in the above two groups. The therapeutic course for all was 6 weeks. Conditions of patients were evaluated before and after treatment with CGI, and levels of CS, ACTH as well as 5-HT were measured by high performance liquid chromatography-electrochemistry. Results: By CGI scoring, the scores of severity index and the general index were not different significantly in the three groups, but the efficacy index proved to be the highest in the needling group, the second in the combined trentment group, and the lowest in the drug group. Plasma level of ACTH and platelet content of 5-HT were lowered in all the three groups after treatment, showing statistical significance (P〈0.05), but no significant change was found in CS level (P〉0.05). Conclusion: The therapeutic efficacy of J3N in treating GAD is equivalent to, but with the efficacy index significantly higher than, that of conventional treatment. Moreover, when combined with drugs, needling might effectively prevent the side effect of the routinely used Western drugs. The regulatory action of needling on platelet 5-HT and plasma ACTH is probably one of the acting pathways for J3N treatment on GAD.展开更多
