The RXC diagnostic system consists of internal camera module and external camera module that view the core region and outer region through the vertical slots of the diagnostic first wall and diagnostics shield module of the equatorial port plug. To ensure the normal performance of the silicon photodiode array detectors of the cameras in the hard neutron irradiation environment in ITER tokamak, it is necessary to calculate neutron flux, radiation damage and the nuclear heating of the silicon photodiode array detectors and simulate the radiation maps of the range of RXC. This work estimated the nuclear environment of RXC based on Monte Carlo N-particle transport code, plasma scenarios of ITER tokamak and the RXC-integrated ITER CLITE model. The neutron flux of silicon photodiode array detectors and the lifetime of the silicon photodiode detector in the camera were calculated. The neutronic analysis results show that the shielding design has achieved the effect as expected and is able to guarantee the normal work of the detector during the ITER deuterium–deuterium phase without replacement, three detectors of the external camera can be operated during the whole deuterium–tritium phase without replacement.展开更多

A newly developed Pb-free gadolinium-based glasses in compositions(80-x) B_2O_3-10 Si O_2-10 Ca O-x Gd_2O_3(where x = 15, 20, 25, 30 and35 mol%) had completely been investigated for their shielding efficiency with Geant4 simulation for mass attenuation coefficients and neutron total macroscopic cross section and by calculating exposure buildup factors. The exposure buildup factors for photon energy from 0.015 to 15 Me V had been calculated up to 40 mean free paths using five factors geometric progression method. The mass attenuation coefficients of the Pb-free glasses were simulated for energies from 223 to 2614 ke V and compared with the possible available experimental results. The neutron shielding efficiency of these glasses was discussed by calculating neutron total macroscopic cross section for energies from 1 e V to 14.1 Me V. Present investigations are found to be very useful for applications in nuclear engineering.展开更多

In the optical/ultraviolet (UV) band, there is an excess of radiation compared to an extrapolation from the X-ray spectrum. However, the majority exhibits "spec- tral deviations": the fact that there is more flux at longer wavelengths makes spectra deviate from the Rayleigh-Jeans law. A model of bremsstrahlung emission from a nonuniform plasma atmosphere is proposed in the regime of a strangeon star to explain the optical/UV excess and its spectral devi- ation as well as X-ray pulsation. The atmosphere is on the surface of strangeon matter, which has negligible emission, and is formed by the accretion of ISM-fed debris disk matter moving along the magnetic field lines to near the polar caps. These particles may spread out of the polar regions which makes the atmosphere non-uniform. The modeled electron temperatures are ~ 100 - 200 eV with radi- ation radii Ropt ~ 5 - 14km. The spectra of five sources (RX J0720.4-3125, RX J0806.4-4123, RX J1308.6+2127, RX J1605.3+3249, RX J1856.5-3754) from optical/UV to X-ray bands can be fitted well by the radiative model, and exhibit Gaussian absorption lines at ~ 100 - 500 eV as would be expected. Furthermore, the surroundings (i.e., fallback disks or dusty belts) of XDINSs could be tested by future infrared/submillimeter observations.展开更多

The crystal structure and atom occupations of WC-type TaN have been investigated by neutron powder diffraction, and the compressibility of WC-type TaN has been investigated by using in-situ high-pressure synchrotron x-ray diffraction. The third-order Birch-Murnaghan equation of state fitted to the x-ray diffraction pressure- volume (P-V) sets of data, collected up to 41 GPa, yields ambient pressure isothermal bulk moduli of B0 = 369(2) GPa with pressure derivatives of B~ = 4 for the WC-type TaN. The bulk modulus of WC-type TaN is not in good agreement with the previous result (Bo = 351 GPa), which is close to the recent theoretical calculation result (Bo = 378 GPa). An analysis of the experiment results shows that crystal structure of WC-type TaN can be viewed as alternate stacking of Ta and N layers along the c direction, and the covalent Ta-N bonds between Ta and N layers along the c axis in the crystal structure play an important role in the incompressibility and hardness of WC-type TaN.展开更多

The data was analysed by Rietveld profile refinement procedure. From the neutron diffraction data, due to weak odd-order reflections, it was not possible to determine the individual thermal parameters. TheX-ray diffraction measurements yielded BT1=0.296(5) nm2 and BBr=0.162(5) nm2. The overall isotropic value, B was 0.252(7) nm2 which is in good agreement with B=0.230(8) nm2 obtained from present neutron diffraction measurements. Using this method, the silver(Ag), cobalt(Co), chromium(Cr), iron(Fe), mercury(Hg), rubidium(Rb), antimony(Sb), selenium(Se), and zinc(Zn) mass fractions were estimated in bone samples from 27 patients with intact bone(12 females and 15 males, aged from 16 to 49 years) who had died from various non-bone-related causes, mainly unexpected traumas, and from 5 patients with chondroma(2 females and 3males, 15–42 years old), obtained from open biopsies or after operation. The reliability of the differences in the results between intact bone and bone affected by chondroma was evaluated by a parametric Student's t test and a nonparametric Mann–Whitney U test. It was found that in the bone affected by chondroma, the mean mass fractions of Co, Cr, Fe, Se, Sb, and Zn were significantly higher than in normal bone tissues. In the neoplastic bone, many correlations between trace elements found in the control group were no longer evident. This work revealed that there is asignificant disturbance of the trace element metabolism in bone affected by chondroma.展开更多

The energy of the γ-rays can be measured by collecting the Čerenkov light in the medium induced by the fast electrons generated in the Compton scattering or electromagnetic shower of the incident γray. Two types of detectors based on pure water and lead glass as sensitive materials were designed for this purpose. The γresponse and optical photon propagation in the detectors were simulated based on electromagnetic and optical processes in Geant4. The inherent energy resolutions of 0.022(4) + 0.51(2)∕E^(1/2)_(γ) for water and 0.0026(3) + 0.446(3)∕E^(1/2)_(γ) for lead glass were obtained. The geometry sizes of the lead glass and water were optimized to 30 cm × 30 cm × 30 cm and 60 cm × 60 cm ×120 cm, respectively, to detect high-energy γ-rays at 160 MeV. The Hough transform method was applied to reconstruct the direction of the incident γ-rays, providing the ability to experimentally distinguish the high-energy γ-rays produced in the reactions on the target from random background cosmic-ray muons.展开更多

Its emission will vary in time due to inhomogeneous motions through and with the accretion flow. These emissions contribute to considerable X-ray variability on a wide range of timescales in all wavelengths, and down to milliseconds. In this article, we give a brief review for quasi-periodic oscillations (QPOs), one of a periodic X-ray variability, in NS/ LMXBs. Firstly, we give a brief introduction to NS/LMXBs and the fruitful QPO components. As an example, the energy dependence of normal branch oscillations in Scorpius X-1 is discussed. We mostly focus on the properties and mechanism of kilohertz QPOs—the fastest variability components that have the same order as the dynamical timescales of the innermost regions of accretion flow. Finally, we discuss the success and questions for theoretical interpretations and present the possible entry for investigation of nature of QPOs.展开更多

文摘In this study, the anti-noise performance of a pulse-coupled neural network(PCNN)was investigated in the neutron and gamma-ray(n-γ)discrimination field. The experiments were conducted in two groups. In the first group, radiation pulse signals were pre-processed using a Fourier filter to reduce the original noise in the signals, whereas in the second group, the original noise was left untouched to simulate an extremely high-noise scenario. For each part, artificial Gaussian noise with different intensity levels was added to the signals prior to the discrimination process. In the aforementioned conditions, the performance of the PCNN was evaluated and compared with five other commonly used methods of n-γdiscrimination:(1)zero crossing,(2)charge comparison,(3)vector projection,(4)falling edge percentage slope,and(5)frequency gradient analysis. The experimental results showed that the PCNN method significantly outperforms other methods with outstanding FoM-value at all noise levels.Furthermore, the fluctuations in FoM-value of PCNN were significantly better than those obtained via other methods at most noise levels and only slightly worse than those obtained via the charge comparison and zerocrossing methods under extreme noise conditions.Additionally, the changing patterns and fluctuations of the FoMvalue were evaluated under different noise conditions.Hence, based on the results, the parameter selection strategy of the PCNN was presented. In conclusion, the PCNN method is suitable for use in high-noise application scenarios for n-γdiscrimination because of its stability and remarkable discrimination performance. It does not rely on strict parameter settings and can realize satisfactory performance over a wide parameter range.

文摘The radiation shielding efficiency of material depends upon photon attenuation, exposure buildup factors and neutron removal capacity. Present investigations are found to be very useful for applications in nuclear engineering.

文摘Several X-ray-dim isolated neutron stars (XDINSs), also known as the Magnificent Seven, exhibit a Planck-like soft X-ray spectrum. Furthermore, the surroundings (i.e., fallback disks or dusty belts) of XDINSs could be tested by future infrared/submillimeter observations.

文摘Tantalum nitride (TAN) compact with a Vickers hardness of 26 GPa is prepared by a high-pressure and high- temperature (HPHT) method. An analysis of the experiment results shows that crystal structure of WC-type TaN can be viewed as alternate stacking of Ta and N layers along the c direction, and the covalent Ta-N bonds between Ta and N layers along the c axis in the crystal structure play an important role in the incompressibility and hardness of WC-type TaN.
文摘Thermal parameters of TIBr were determined using both X-ray and neutron diffraction techniques. The present values are also in good agreement with theoretical estimates obtained from the shell models.

文摘A nondestructive instrumental neutron activation analysis with high-resolution gamma-ray spectrometry of long-lived radionuclides was developed and used for measurement of trace element contents in samples of bone to determine health and diseases. This work revealed that there is asignificant disturbance of the trace element metabolism in bone affected by chondroma.

文摘The energetic bremsstrahlung photons up to 100 MeV produced in heavy ion collisions can be used as a sensitive probe for short-range correlation in atomic nuclei. The Hough transform method was applied to reconstruct the direction of the incident γ-rays, providing the ability to experimentally distinguish the high-energy γ-rays produced in the reactions on the target from random background cosmic-ray muons.

文摘A new measurement method for the spatial distribution of neutron beam flux in boron neutron capture therapy(BNCT)is being developed based on the two-dimensional Micromegas detector. To address the issue of long processing times in traditional offline position reconstruction methods, this paper proposes a field programmable gate array based online position reconstruction method utilizing the micro-time projection chamber principle. This method encapsulates key technical aspects:a self-adaptive serial link technique built upon the dynamical adjustment of the delay chain length, fast sorting,a coordinate-matching technique based on the mapping between signal timestamps and random access memory(RAM)addresses, and a precise start point-merging technique utilizing a circular combined RAM.The performance test of the selfadaptive serial link shows that the bit error rate of the link is better than 10-12 at a confidence level of 99%,ensuring reliable data transmission. The experiment utilizing the readout electronics and Micromegas detector shows a spatial resolution of approximately 1.4 mm,surpassing the current method’s resolution level of 5 mm.The beam experiment confirms that the readout electronics system can obtain the flux spatial distribution of neutron beams online, thus validating the feasibility of the position reconstruction method. The online position reconstruction method avoids traditional methods, such as bubble sorting and traversal searching, simplifies the design of the logic firmware, and reduces the time complexity from O(n2)to O(n).This study contributes to the advancement in measuring neutron beam flux for BNCT.

文摘We proposed and compared three methods(filter burnup, single energy burnup, and burnup extremum analysis)to build a high-resolution neutronics model for 238Pu production in high-flux reactors. The filter burnup and single energy burnup methods have no theoretical approximation and can achieve a spectrum resolution of up to~1 eV,thereby constructing the importance curve and yield curve of the full energy range. The burnup extreme analysis method combines the importance and yield curves to consider the influence of irradiation time on production efficiency, thereby constructing extreme curves. The three curves, which quantify the transmutation rate of the nuclei in each energy region, are of physical significance because they have similar distributions.A high-resolution neutronics model for ^(238)Pu production was established based on these three curves, and its universality and feasibility were proven. The neutronics model can guide the neutron spectrum optimization and improve the yield of ^(238)Pu by up to 18.81%.The neutronics model revealed the law of nuclei transmutation in all energy regions with high spectrum resolution, thus providing theoretical support for high-flux reactor design and irradiation production of ^(238)Pu.

文摘The cosmic-ray neutron technology is a novel method for upscaling soil moisture, holding significant importance in drought monitoring, soil water storage estimation, calibration of remote sensing products, and data assimilation of land surface models. However, most studies conducted soil moisture measurement experiments using static Cosmic-Ray Neutron Sensors(CRNS)and are often limited to a single landscape, lacking in-situ measurement for the cosmic-ray neutron rover across various landscapes. This study carried out soil moisture observation experiments using a cosmic-ray neutron rover in nine grassland plots, nine farmland plots, and nine desert plots of the Heihe River Basin,Northwest China. The neutron counts displayed clear variations among different plots, and an equation could represent the relationship between neutron intensity and multiple variables near the ground. The parameter N0 was the smallest for grassland and greatest for desert, and there was a significant negative correlation between Normalized Difference Vegetation Index and N0(P<0.05).Furthermore,the performance of CRNS notably improved after considering soil lattice water and soil organic matter. The Root Mean Square Error(RMSE)between the measured and oven-dried soil moisture increased with radius.Soil moisture measured by CRNS strongly supported the 100 m diameter footprint assumption(RMSE<0.044 g/g).The study offers valuable insights into the application and promotion of cosmic-ray neutron technology across various landscapes within a basin.
文摘Cobalt-free maraging steels of different compositions have been prepared by electro-slag remelting technique using titanium and chromium instead of cobalt. Neutron removal cross-sections have been calculated, also mass attenuation coefficients and effective electron densities have been determined for the prepared samples in the photon energy range up to 2.8 MeV. Other steel alloys and lead samples have also been investigated for the sake of comparison. The results prove the superiority of cobalt-free maraging steels compared with the other steel types to be used as a proper shielding material in the nuclear field. Among the investigated steels, the steel “0.045%C- 13.35%Ni-2.05%Cr-4.5%Mo-0.06%Ti” has the best attenuation properties.

文摘This study investigates the effects of displacement damage on the dark signal of a pinned photodiode CMOS image sensor(CIS)following irradiation with back-streaming white neutrons from white neutron sources at the China spallation neutron source(CSNS)and Xi'an pulsed reactor(XAPR).The mean dark signal, dark signal non-uniformity(DSNU),dark signal distribution, and hot pixels of the CIS were compared between the CSNS back-n and XAPR neutron irradiations. The nonionizing energy loss and energy distribution of primary knock-on atoms in silicon, induced by neutrons, were calculated using the open-source package Geant4.An analysis combining experimental and simulation results showed a noticeable proportionality between the increase in the mean dark signal and the displacement damage dose(DDD).Additionally, neutron energies influence DSNU,dark signal distribution, and hot pixels.High neutron energies at the same DDD level may lead to pronounced dark signal non-uniformity and elevated hot pixel values.

文摘It seems that the wealth of information revealed by the multi-messenger observations of the binary neutron star(NS)merger event,GW170817/GRB 170817A/kilonova AT2017gfo,places irreconcilable constraints to models of the prompt emission of this gamma-ray burst(GRB).The observed time delay between the merger of the two NSs and the trigger of the GRB and the thermal tail of the prompt emission can hardly be reproduced by these models simultaneously. We argue that the merger remnant should be an NS(last for,at least,a large fraction of 1 s),and that the difficulty can be alleviated by the delayed formation of the accretion disk due to the absorption of high-energy neutrinos emitted by the NS and the delayed emergence of effective viscosity in the disk.Further,we extend the consideration of the effect of the energy deposition of neutrinos emitted from the NS.If the NS is the central object of a GRB with a distance and duration similar to that of GRB 170817A,thermal emission of the thermal bubble inflated by the NS after the termination of accretion may be detectable. If our scenario is verified,it would be of interest to investigate the cooling of nascent NSs.
文摘In accreting neutron star (NS) low-mass X-ray binaries (LMXBs), the turbulent flow in accretion disk may show magnetic structures. Finally, we discuss the success and questions for theoretical interpretations and present the possible entry for investigation of nature of QPOs.

文摘Aluminum is the primary structural material in nuclear engineering, and its cross section induced by 14-MeV neutrons is of great significance. To address the issue of insufficient accuracy for the^(27)Al(n,2n)^(26)Al reaction cross section, the activation method and accelerator mass spectrometry(AMS)technique were used to determine the^(27)Al(n,2n)^(26)Al cross section, which could be used as a D-T plasma ion temperature monitor in fusion reactors. At the China Academy of Engineering Physics, neutron activation was performed using a K-400 neutron generator produced by the T(d,n)4He reaction.The^(26)Al∕^(27)Al isotope ratios were measured using the newly installed GYIG 1 MV AMS at the Institute of Geochemistry,Chinese Academy of Sciences. The neutron flux was monitored by measuring the activity of 92mNb produced by the 93Nb(n,2n)92mNb reaction. The measured results were compared with available data in the experimental nuclear reaction database, and the measured values showed a reasonable degree of consistency with partially available literature data. The newly acquired cross-sectional data at 12 neutron energy points through systematic measurements clarified the divergence, which has two different growth trends from the existing experimental values. The obtained results are also compared with the corresponding evaluated database, and the newly calculated excitation functions with TALYS−1.95 and EMPIRE−3.2 codes, the agreement with CENDL−3.2,TENDL-2021 and EMPIRE−3.2 results are generally acceptable.A substantial improvement in the knowledge of the^(27)Al(n,2n)^(26)Al reaction excitation function was obtained in the present work, which will lay the foundation for the diagnosis of the fusion ion temperature, testing of the nuclear physics model, evaluation of nuclear data, etc.

文摘Neutron-sensitive microchannel plates(nMCPs)have applications in neutron detection, including energy spectrum measurements,neutron-induced cross sections, and neutron imaging.10B-doped MCPs(B-MCPs)have attracted significant attention owing to their potential for exhibiting a high neutron detection efficiency over a large neutron energy range.Good spatial and temporal resolutions are useful for neutron energy-resolved imaging. However, their practical applications still face many technical challenges. In this study,a B-MCP with 10 mol%10B was tested for its response to wide-energy neutrons from eV to MeV at the Back-n white neutron source at the China Spallation Neutron Source. The neutron detection efficiency was calibrated at 1 eV,which is approximately 300 times that of an ordinary MCP and indicates the success of 10 B doping. The factors that caused the reduction in the detection efficiency were simulated and discussed. The neutron energy spectrum obtained using B-MCP was compared with that obtained by other measurement methods, and showed very good consistency for neutron energies below tens of keV.The response is more complicated at higher neutron energy,at which point the elastic and nonelastic reactions of all nuclides of B-MCP gradually become dominant. This is beneficial for the detection of neutrons,as it compensates for the detection efficiency of B-MCP for high-energy neutrons.
