On Sentence Complexity in THE TIMES: A Comparative Study of SentenceLength and Sentence Complexity in the News Section and the Sports Section

My investigation will serve two purposes. First, I shall investigate the function of the subclauses in the corpus in relation to their complexity, and I shall establish whether there is a correlation between sentence length and sentence complexity.Second, I shall analyse the complexity of the subclauses collected from the two sections and compare the results from these sections, focusing on finite subclauses and non-finite subclauses. I hope to be able to point out some differences in style between the news and sports sections concerning the use of subordinate clauses in various syntactic functions in order to examine how the choice of linguistic structures differs in different sections of The Times.

Report of Prionospio complex(Annelida:Polychaeta:Spio-nidae) from China's waters,with description of a new species

Nine species of Prionospio complex are recorded from China＇s waters,including one new species and six newly recorded species.Prionospio（Prionospio） pacifica sp.nov.,is characterized by having first and forth pairs of branchiae pinnate,second and third pairs of apinnate,ventral crest on Setiger 9 and dorsal crests on Setigers 10-25.Apoprionospio kirrae（Wilson,1990）,Prionospio（Aquilaspio） convexa Imajima,1990,Prionospio（Minuspio） multibranchiata Berkeley,1927,Prionospio（Prionospio） bocki Sderstrm,1920,Prionospio（Prionospio） dubia Maciolek,1985 and Prionospio（Prionospio） paradisea Imajima,1990 are recorded for the first time from China＇s waters.

CRYSTAL STRUCTURE OF THE COPPER（II） COMPLEX OF NEW MACROCYCLIC DIOXOTETRAAMINE LIGAND FUNCTIONALIZED WITH 8－METHYL QUINOLINE PENDANT

The copper (II) complex (1) of a new Iigand 4- (quinolin-8-ylmethyl)- 1, 4, 7. 10-tetraazacycoltridecane-11. 13-dione (L) has been syntehsized and its crystal structure determined. It is of orthorhomic crystal system and Pcad space group with a=16.260 (3), b=7. 739 (2). c=27. 530 (9) A, Mr=416. 97, Z=8. Dx=1. 595 g/cm3,μ=12. 876 cm-1, and F(000)=1736. The final R factor is 0. 061 for 2594 observed reflections with I>3σ(I). The Cu .atom is five coordinated to form a distorted square pyramid geometry in which N(11) of the pendant is at apical site.

Eleven species of noctuid moths new to China of the boreal faunal complex(Lepidoptera:Noctuidae)

Eleven species of the Noctuidae[Polia hepatica(Clerck,1759),P.malchani(Draudt,1934),P.vespertilio(Draudt,1934),Lasionycta skraelingia(Herrich-Schaffer,1852),L.hospita A.Bang-Haas,1912;Xestia kolymae(Herz,1903),X.albuncula(Eversmann,1851),X.subgrisea(Staudinger,1897),X.penthima(Erschoff,1870),X.sincera(Herrich-Schaffer,1851),and X.rhaetica(Staudinger,1871)]of the boreal faunal complex are reported for the first time from China.Illustrations of adults and the genitalia of both sexes are provided.Information on these newly recorded species,original descriptions,type-locality,synonyms,references,host plants and bionomics are provided.

New Interface Complexity Metric on XML Schema

With increasing usage of a web services today, user required to consecrate reasoning energy to learning the complexities of the interface as opposed to the content. Interface complexity measures the degree of complexity encountered between the user and digital medium like website. This paper presents a New Interface Complexity (NIC) Metric, which partially based on existing schema metrics to weigh human insight of recent service interface;taking into account elements and attributes of XML documents implemented in?World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) XML Schema (WXS) to reduce the structure affecting the effort for comprehending schema documents. The NIC metric is able to draw conclusions about the perceived qualities: interoperability, extensibility and flexibility. It was discovered that there are significant correlations between NIC metric and existing measures. Automating, this practice would be beneficial to developers and designers, as it would help to provide useful feedback in software project design to check the quality of documents for easy maintenance and properly used of XML data for distributed applications.

SYNTHESIS AND PROPERTIES OF NEW INTERPOLYMERIC COMPLEXES

β-(2-imidazolinyl)-ethyl methyl diethoxy silane quarternary halides and its condensed polymers with bisphenol A were synthesized and characterized. The polycation-polyanion complexes were prepared by the condensed polymers and poly (styrene sulfonate). The solubility and thermal stability of interpolymeric complexes were investigated.

SYNTHESIS AND CHARACTERIZATION OF COMPLEXES OF TRANSITION METAL WITH PBDETA, A NEW POLYDENTATE LIGAND

The synthesis and characterization are reported for a series of bi- and trinuclear complexes of the first transition metal ions with PBDETA, the newly syn thesized polydentate ligand. The electron transition energy in binuclear compound is stronger than that in trinuclear. There is a weak antiferromagnetic exchange interaction in tricopper and trimanganese.

Synthesis of Mn(Ⅲ) Complexes of New "Tailed" Porphyrins and Their Application as Carriers for PVC Membrane SCN-Anion-Selective Electrode

Three new 'tailed' porphyrins and their corresponding Mn(Ⅲ) metalloporphyrins were synthesized and characterized. The potentiometric response characteristics of the PVC membrane electrode based on the Mn(Ⅲ) complexes of the three new 'tailed' porphyrins toward SCN- have been studied.

SPECTRAL STUDY ON A NEW 3d_z^2 TYPE COPPER(Ⅱ)COMPLEX OF PHENOLIC POLYMERIC CROWN ETHER

ESR and IR measurements have been carried out for a copper(Ⅱ)complex of phenolic polymeric crown ether,As a result,the triplet ESR spectrum(S=1)of 3d_z2 ground state copper(Ⅱ)ions was first observed for the powder sample.It indicated that there existed intramolecular spin-spin interaction betweeen 3d_Z2 ground state copper(Ⅱ)and copper(Ⅱ)ions.In this binuclear triplet cluster,the axial ligntion of one water molecule in a sandwich position to two adjacent copper(Ⅱ) ions was also confirmed by IR spectra,All things considered,a possible structure for the complex was proposed.

A New SLM Scheme Based on Constellation Rotation for PAPR Reduction

A new selected mapping(SLM)scheme based on constellation rotation is proposed to reduce the peak-to-average power ratio(PAPR)of orthogonal frequency division multiplexing(OFDM)signals.Its core idea is to generate abundant candidate signals by rotating different sub-signals of the original frequency signal with different angles.This new signal generation method can simplify the calculation process of candidate time signals into the linear addition of some intermediate signals,which are generated by the inverse fast Fourier transform(IFFT)operation of the original frequency signal.This feature can effectively reduce the computational complexity of candidate signal generation process.And compared to the traditional SLM scheme,the number of complex multiplication and complex addition of new scheme can separately be decreased by about 99.99% and 91.7% with some specific parameters.Moreover,with the help of the constellation detection mechanism at the receiver,there is no need to carry any side information at the transmitter.The simulation results show that,with the same channel transmission performance,the PAPR reduction performance of new scheme can approach or even exceed the upper bound of the traditional SLM scheme,which uses all the vectors in Hadamard matrix as the phase sequences.

Introducing “Arithmetic Calculus” with Some Applications: New Terms, Definitions, Notations and Operators

New operators are presented to introduce “arithmetic calculus”, where 1) the operators are just obvious mathematical facts, and 2) arithmetic calculus refers to summing and subtracting operations without solving equations. The sole aim of this paper is to make a case for arithmetic calculus, which is lurking in conventional mathematics and science but has no identity of its own. The underlying thinking is: 1) to shift the focus from the whole sequence to any of its single elements;and 2) to factorise each element to building blocks and rules. One outcome of this emerging calculus is to understand the interconnectivity in a family of sequences, without which they are seen as discrete entities with no interconnectivity. Arithmetic calculus is a step closer towards deriving a “Tree of Numbers” reminiscent of the Tree of Life. Another windfall outcome is to show that the deconvolution problem is explicitly well-posed but at the same time implicitly ill-conditioned;and this challenges a misconception that this problem is ill-posed. If the thinking in this paper is not new, this paper forges it through a mathematical spin by presenting new terms, definitions, notations and operators. The return for these out of the blue new aspects is far reaching.

Infrared Spectroscopic and Theoretical Studies on Cobalt(Ⅱ) Complex of Maleinitriledithiolate and 4, 4′-Dimethyl-2, 2′-bipyridine

The complete experimental IR spectra and vibrational analysis of the title complex Co(mnt)(dmbpy) were reported in this paper. The results show that the complex molecule has a planar geometry belonging to point group C 2v and ground electronic state with spin quartet. A new method for analyzing vibrational spectra of complicated molecule is established. The essential of this method is to point out main fixed points and pivotal vibrational units in assignment for each fundamental band. Two new symbols η (heaving along the specified direction) and M (midpoint of a bond or unit) were defined for describing the vibrational modes accurately.

Long-Distance Pipe Jacking in Complex Urban Geological Environment

A steel underground pipeline with a diameter of 2.4 m and a total length of 3,617 m(plate thickness of 26 mm)has been constructed in a city in central Hubei,and the engineering,procurement,and construction(EPC)project has been lifted from the upstream channel to supplement water to the downstream lake inside the city.Through preliminary geological survey data,site topographic and geomorphic survey,urban construction,as well as the requirements of the construction party,the preliminary arrangement of working wells and receiving wells as well as the selection and customization of pipe jacking machines have been proposed.Frequency conversion motor and remote monitoring technology are adopted for geotechnical change and long-distance pipe jacking.Through detailed survey,the rock and soil change section as well as gradual change conditions have been determined,the accuracy of construction mechanics calculation and construction operation control have improved,the basis and analysis basis are provided,and some experiences in construction operation are summarized.

本土市场规模与制造业出口复杂度——基于国内国际市场协同的视角

在“双循环”新发展格局下,利用我国超大规模市场优势提升出口产品的复杂度显得尤为重要。通过构建本土市场规模影响出口复杂度的理论模型,采用147个国家(地区)205种制造业产品的出口数据进行实证检验,研究结果表明:本土市场规模对制造业出口复杂度呈显著促进效应,且这种作用在数字基础设施高水平国家、非毗邻大国国家以及发展中国家中表现得更为突出。渠道检验显示,本土市场规模可以通过提高技术创新水平进而影响出口复杂度。此外,基于国内、国际两个市场协同的视角,发现发展中国家进口依存度与本土市场规模具有协同效应,能够促进出口复杂度的提高,其出口依存度则存在负向作用,而发达国家则相反。
