Intermittent catheterization is the most widely used method to restore bladder emptying mechanism. However, this procedure can have a negative impact on self-image and result in a decline in the quality of life of patients. In this context, the use of a bladder emptying device (SVCATH3D) proposes to be effective and have a positive impact on the quality of life of different patients. Objective: The objective of the study was to evaluate the functionality of a new device for both intermittent and controlled emptying of the bladder in both sexes and ages. Materials and methods: A randomized clinical trial was conducted with 251 patients, with different bladder problems, from March 2013 to January 2023. After randomization, the patients were divided into two groups: Group I (SVCATH3D) and Group II (Clean Intermittent Catheterization). The primary outcome was defined as the impact on quality of life. Data on episodes of urinary tract infection, adverse effects, number of diaper use and treatment costs were analyzed. Results: The apposition of the SVCATH3D was performed on an outpatient basis, with no complications during the procedures. The patients were followed up for 10 years. There was a significant improvement in quality of life when comparing the moments before and after the use of SVCATH3D (p Conclusion: The study using SVCATH3D showed promising results in relation to functionality, showing improvement in quality of life with a reduction in episodes of urinary infection and amount of diapers/day. This allows us to conclude that SVCATH3D can represent an important step in the treatment of patients suffering from various bladder problems both incontinence and affecting emptying mechanism.展开更多

Postpartum contraception can help to significantly reduce these unsatisfied needs. The introduction of the intrauterine device (IUD) in the postpartum quickly encountered problems with the type of forceps used to make the insertions (Kelly or Heart forceps), and also their availability at the various health centers. Thus, in 2016, the Population Services International Mali (PSI-Mali) introduced the insertion of the IUD in the postpartum with the new inserter in order to counter this forceps problem and to contribute to guaranteeing the quality of postpartum IUD insertions. Objectives: They were to determine the frequency, the socio-demographic and clinical characteristics and to report the side effects and the complications. Methods: This was a descriptive and analytical cross-sectional study from September 1st 2016 to August 31st, 2018. All deliveries that met the eligibility criteria, having chosen and benefited the postpartum intra-uterine device with the new inserter were included. Results: During the 2 years, we recorded 73 cases of insertion of the postpartum intra-uterine device with the new inserter over 7797 clients meeting of the world health organization’s criteria of medical admissibility for the use of an intra-uterine device with a frequency of 0.93%. They were married in 97% of cases, large multiparous in 48% of cases, aged between 30 and 39 years in 62% of cases. We didn’t notice any complications in 96% of cases. Expulsion with 4% was the only complication. The clients didn’t have any side effects in 98% of cases. Conclusion: The insertion of a postpartum intra-uterine device with the new inserter has supplanted the insertion techniques using forceps in our center because of its ease and speed. Its use is worth being popularized to help reduce the unmet need for family planning.展开更多

It may be present in the hip, spine, and wrist. The gold standard technique for osteoporosis diagnosis is the Bone Densitometry (DXA). The evaluation of an electroacoustic device is as an alternative procedure for the validation and diagnosis of osteoporosis. Diagnosis of osteoporosis severity was carried out in 49 females by using the registers of the DEXA’s T-Score values. These were statistically compared with the measurements performed using the electroacoustic device. Non-Significative difference between measurements was found with ANOVA and Chi-square tests and the area for the ROC curve on electroacoustic devices was 0.551. The Bland Altman suggests an excellent concordance between both techniques. This is a non-invasive method that has a proper match with the gold standard. The study suggests that procedure measurements with the electroacoustic device could be implemented as an alternative clinical practice for osteoporosis diagnosis.展开更多
