The effect of concentration of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) on the surface properties of Ni-Cr alloys was studied. Surface roughness and surface morphology of Ni-Cr alloys were evaluated by surface profiler and scanning electron microscopy after being immersed in different concentrations of H2O2 for 112 h. Surface corrosion products of Ni-Cr alloys were analyzed by photoelectron spectrograph after being immersed in 0% and 30% H2O2. The order of increasing surface roughness of Ni-Cr alloys after being immersed in different concentrations of H2O2 was 0〈3.6%〈10%〈30%. As the concentration of hydrogen peroxide increased, the surface roughness of Ni-Cr alloys increased and the surface morphology showed different degrees of corrosion. According to the XPS results, the corrosion products formed on the outmost surface layer of the studied samples are Ni(OH)2 and BeO. 展开更多

The Ni-Cr alloy electrodepositing technology on iron substrate in the chlorid-sulfate solution and the impacts of main processing parameters on coating composition were studied. The optimal Ni-Cr alloy electrodepositing conditions are that the cathode current density is 16 A/dm^2,the plating solution temperature is 30℃ and the pH value is 2.5. The bright, compact coating gained under the optimal conditions has good cohesion and 24.1% Cr content. The results show that the coating is composed of crystalline, the average grain size is 82 nm and the higher the Cr content of coating, the larger the rigidity, and the higher the corrosion resistance. The rigidity of coating reaches 78.6(HR30T) and the passivation area broadens to 1.4 V when the Cr content of coating is 24.1%. 展开更多

Ni-Cr alloyed layer was formed on surface of Q235 steel by double glow plasma surface metallurgy to improve the corrosion resistance of substrate. The composition and microstructure of alloyed layer was analyzed by SEM and XRD. Potentiodynamic polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy was applied to evaluate the corrosion resistance of the alloyed layer. The results showed working pressure had a great effect on structure of Ni-Cr alloyed layer, and the dense and smooth alloyed layer was prepared at 50 Pa working pressure. Compared with substrate, Ni-Cr alloyed layer exhibited higher corrosion potential, lower corrosion current density and larger charge transfer resistance, which indicated that Ni-Cr alloyed layer significantly modified the corrosion resistance of Q235 steel. 展开更多

Fe-Ni-Cr alloy powders with and without 0.4% CeO_2 were flame sprayed on the surface of 1045 carbon steel substrate. The effect of rare earth oxide CeO_2 on the interface layer and microstructure was investigated by X-ray diffraction analysis, SEM and EDS. Based on our previous work, comparison on the microstructure of a Fe-Ni-Cr alloy with and without 0.4% CeO_2 addition was made. The correlation between the microstructure and bond strength was studied. The addition of CeO_2 in Fe-Ni-Cr alloy shows promise results for providing good bonding strength as well as tribological properties. The results show that the hardness of the coatings can be improved by addition of 0.4% CeO_2, and the shape of powders is more spheroidal. The combination of three aspects, namely small, well-distributed microstructure, the well-distributed matrix and promotion of diffusion leads to the improvement in bond strength of Fe-Ni-Cr alloy with addition of 0.4% CeO_2. 展开更多

The density of Ni-Cr alloy in the mushy state has been measured using the modified sessile drop method. The density of Ni-Cr alloy in the mushy state was found to decrease with increasing temperature and Cr concentration in alloy. The molar volume of Ni-Cr alloy in the mushy state therefore increases with increasing the Cr concentration in alloy. The ratio of the difference of density divided by the temperature difference between liquidus and solidus temperatures decreases with increasing Cr concentration. The density of the alloy increased with the precipitation of a solid phase in alloy during the solidification process. The temperature dependence of the density of alloy in the mushy state was not linear but biquadratic. 展开更多

Ni-Cr alloyed layers were synthesized on the surface of Q235 mild steel by double-glow plasma surface metallurgy with different electrode distance. The microstructure and phases of the alloyed layer were characterized by scanning electron microscopy(SEM),energy dispersive X-ray spectrometry(EDS),and X-ray diffraction(XRD).The corrosion behavior of the Ni-Cr alloyed layers both in 3.5%NaCl and 0.5 M H_(2)SO_(4) solution were systematically investigated by open-circuit potential(OCP),potentiodynamic polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy(EIS).The obtained results reveal that the Ni-Cr alloyed layer consists of a deposited layer and an inter-diffusion layer. With increasing the electrode distance, the relative thickness, microstructure and phase composition of the Ni-Cr alloyed layers vary greatly.Polarization data show the Ni-Cr alloyed layer with the electrode distance of 15 mm has highest corrosion resistance and lowest corrosion rate, while EIS results reveal the same trend. The highest protective efficiency in 3.5%NaCl and 0.5 M H_(2)SO_(4) solution are 99.23%and 99.92%,respectively,obtained for the Ni-Cr alloyed layer with 15 mm electrode distance. When the electrode distance is too large,a thin and porosity Ni-Cr alloyed layer, caused by low plasma density and Kirkendall effect, will be obtained, and will decrease the protective efficiency in corrosive medium. 展开更多

Ni-Cr alloys with mass fraction of 1.4%23.9%Cr, 76.1%98.6%Ni, and hardness of 70.5 80.5HR were electrodeposited on aluminium substrate from the trivalent chromium sulphate-chloride solution using citric acid as complexing agent. The aluminium was pretreated by means of degreasing and eroding, polishing and twice chemical immersion of zinc. The effects of electrodeposition parameters such as current density, temperature, pH value and bath concentration on the composition and hardness of deposits were investigated. The results show that the Cr content increases with the increase of current density and the decrease of temperature, and that it increases with the increase of pH value to a maximum and then decreases. The increase of Cr content leads to the increase of hardness of the Ni-Cr layers. The deposits with high Cr content are of good corrosion resistance. Good adherence of Ni-Cr deposits to aluminium substrate is obtained. The Ni-Cr alloys are the Ni-Cr solid solution with fcc crystalline structure. The Ni-Cr alloy deposits are fine, bright and smooth and compact. 展开更多

A novel process of electroplating amorphous Fe Cr Ni alloy in chloride aqueous solution with Fe(Ⅱ), Ni(Ⅱ) and Cr(Ⅲ) was reported. Couple plasma atomic emission spectrometry (ICP AES), X ray diffractometry(XRD), scanning electronic microscopy(SEM), microhardness test and rapid heating cooling method were adopted to detect the properties of the amorphous Fe Ni Cr deposit, such as composition, crystalline structure, micrograph, hardness, and adherence between deposit and substrate. The effects of the operating parameters on the electrodeposit of the amorphous Fe Ni Cr alloy were discussed in detail. The results show that a 8.7?μm thick mirror like amorphous Fe Ni Cr alloy deposit, with Vicker’s hardness of 530 and composition of 45%~55% Fe, 33%~37% Ni, 9%~23% Cr was obtained by electroplating for 20?min at room temperature(10~30?℃), cathode current 10~16?A/dm 2, pH=1.0~3.0. The XRD patterns show that there only appears a broad hump around 2 θ of 41?°~47?°for the amorphous Fe Ni Cr alloy deposit, while the SEM micrographs show that the deposit contains only a few fine cracks but no pinholes. 展开更多

Four kinds of Ni-xCr alloy laser cladding layers(x=20,40,60 and 80,wt%)were prepared by high-speed laser cladding technique, and the relationship between microstructure and wear resistance of Ni-Cr alloy laser cladding layers with different Cr contents was investigated. The results show that the four Ni-Cr alloy laser cladding layers all have reticulated dendritic structures.Among them,Ni-20Cr and Ni-40Cr are single-phaseγ-(Ni,Cr)solid solutions, and their wear mechanisms are adhesive wear and abrasive wear. With the increase in Cr content,Ni-60Cr and Ni-80Cr areγ-(Ni,Cr)phase and Cr phase,as well as Cr-rich precipitates, and their wear mechanisms are adhesive wear, abrasive wear and fatigue wear.A moderate increase in Cr content can enhance the hardness and wear resistance of Ni-Cr alloy laser cladding layer. However, excessive addition of Cr results in the precipitation of Cr-rich precipitates. The hardness of these precipitates is 2430.4 MPa,which is lower than the hardness of the Ni-60Cr matrix(4024.86 MPa)and Ni-80Cr matrix(7022.68 MPa).A hardness transition zone exists between the Cr-rich precipitates and the matrix.Cracks are likely to initiate and expand in this zone, leading to deep spalling, which is not conducive to the wear-resistant properties of the laser cladding layer.Ni-80Cr has the highest hardness, but its high Cr content leads to a large number of penetrating cracks and Cr-rich precipitates on the surface, ultimately resulting in the worst wear resistance.Ni-60Cr exhibits the best wear resistance due to its high hardness and dense microstructure. 展开更多

We have developed a superhydrophobic and corrosion-resistant LDH-W/PFDTMS composite coating on the surface of Mg alloy. This composite comprised a tungstate-intercalated(LDH-W)underlayer that was grown at low temperature(relative to hydrothermal reaction conditions)under atmospheric pressure and an outer polysiloxane layer created from a solution containing perfluorodecyltrimethoxysilane(PFDTMS)using a simple immersion method. The successful intercalation of tungstate into the LDH phase and the following formation of the polysiloxane layer were confirmed through X-ray diffraction(XRD),Fourier transform infrared(FTIR)spectroscopy, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS).The corrosion resistance of the LDH-W film, both before and after the PFDTMS modification, was evaluated using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy(EIS),Tafel curves, and immersion experiments. The results showed that Mg coated with LDH-W/PFDTMS exhibited significantly enhanced corrosion protection compared to the unmodified LDHW film, with no apparent signs of corrosion after exposure to 3.5wt%NaCl solution for 15 d.Furthermore, the LDH-W/PFDTMS coating demonstrated superior superhydrophobicity and self-cleaning properties against water and several common beverages,as confirmed by static contact angle and water-repellency tests. These results offer valuable insights into preparing superhydrophobic and corrosion-resistant LDH-based composite coatings on Mg alloy surfaces under relatively mild reaction conditions. 展开更多

The mechanical and thermodynamic properties of W-Ti alloys(including W_(15)Ti_(1),W_(14)Ti_(2),W_(12)Ti_(4) and W_(8)Ti_(8) alloys)were investigated by the first-principles approach based on density functional theory. The results indicate that W-Ti alloys except W_(8)Ti_(8) are thermodynamically stable. The modulus and hardness of W-Ti alloys are smaller than those of pure tungsten and gradually decrease with increasing Ti concentration. However, their B/G ratios and Poisson's ratios exceed those of pure tungsten, suggesting that the introduction of Ti decreases the mechanical strength while enhancing the ductility of W-Ti alloys. The thermal expansion coefficients for W-Ti alloys all surpass those of pure tungsten, indicating that the introduction of titanium exacerbates the thermal expansion behavior of W-Ti alloys.Nevertheless, elevated pressure has the capacity to suppress the thermal expansion tendencies in titanium-doped tungsten alloys. This study offers theoretical insights for the design of nuclear materials by exploring the mechanical and thermodynamic properties of W-Ti alloys. 展开更多

High pressure die casting(HPDC)AlSi10Mn Mg alloy castings are widely used in the automobile industry.Mg can optimize the mechanical properties of castings through heat treatment, while the release of thermal stress arouses the deformation of large integrated die-castings.Herein,the development of non-heat treatment Al alloys is becoming the hot topic. In addition,HPDC contains externally solidified crystals(ESCs),which are detrimental to the mechanical properties of castings. To achieve high strength and toughness of non-heat treatment die-casting Al-Si alloy,we used AlSi9Mn alloy as matrix with the introduction of Zr,Ti,Nb,and Ce.Their influences on ESCs and mechanical properties were systematically investigated through three-dimensional reconstruction and thermodynamic simulation. Our results reveal that the addition of Ti increased ESCs'size and porosity, while the introduction of Nb refined ESCs and decreased porosity.Meanwhile,large-sized Al_3(Zr,Ti)phases formed and degraded the mechanical properties.Subsequent introduction of Ce resulted in the poisoning effect and reduced mechanical properties. 展开更多

At present, the emerging solid-phase friction-based additive manufacturing technology, including friction rolling additive man-ufacturing(FRAM),can only manufacture simple single-pass components. In this study,multi-layer multi-pass FRAM-deposited alumin-um alloy samples were successfully prepared using a non-shoulder tool head. The material flow behavior and microstructure of the over-lapped zone between adjacent layers and passes during multi-layer multi-pass FRAM deposition were studied using the hybrid 6061 and 5052 aluminum alloys. The results showed that a mechanical interlocking structure was formed between the adjacent layers and the adja-cent passes in the overlapped center area.Repeated friction and rolling of the tool head led to different degrees of lateral flow and plastic deformation of the materials in the overlapped zone, which made the recrystallization degree in the left and right edge zones of the over-lapped zone the highest, followed by the overlapped center zone and the non-overlapped zone. The tensile strength of the overlapped zone exceeded 90%of that of the single-pass deposition sample. It is proved that although there are uneven grooves on the surface of the over-lapping area during multi-layer and multi-pass deposition, they can be filled by the flow of materials during the deposition of the next lay-er,thus ensuring the dense microstructure and excellent mechanical properties of the overlapping area. The multi-layer multi-pass FRAM deposition overcomes the limitation of deposition width and lays the foundation for the future deposition of large-scale high-performance components. 展开更多

Microstructure, texture, and mechanical properties of the extruded Mg-2.49Nd-1.82Gd-0.2Zn-0.2Zr alloy were investigated at different extrusion temperatures(260 and 320℃),extrusion ratios(10:1,15:1,and 30:1),and extrusion speeds(3 and 6 mm/s).The experimental results exhibited that the grain sizes after extrusion were much finer than that of the homogenized alloy, and the second phase showed streamline distribution along the extrusion direction(ED).With extrusion temperature increased from 260 to 320℃,the microstructure, texture, and mechanical properties of alloys changed slightly. The dynamic recrystallization(DRX)degree and grain sizes enhanced as the extrusion ratio increased from 10:1 to 30:1,and the strength gradually decreased but elongation(EL)increased. With the extrusion speed increased from 3 to 6 mm/s,the grain sizes and DRX degree increased significantly, and the samples presented the typical<2111>-<1123>rare-earth(RE)textures.The alloy extruded at 260℃ with extrusion ratio of 10:1 and extrusion speed of 3 mm/s showed the tensile yield strength(TYS)of 213 MPa and EL of 30.6%.After quantitatively analyzing the contribution of strengthening mechanisms,it was found that the grain boundary strengthening and dislocation strengthening played major roles among strengthening contributions. These results provide some guidelines for enlarging the industrial application of extruded Mg-RE alloy. 展开更多

Ti-6Al-4Zr-2Sn-6Mo alloy is one of the most recent titanium alloys processed using powder bed fusion-laser beam(PBF-LB)technology.This alloy has the potential to replace Ti-6Al-4V in automotive and aerospace applications, given its superior mechanical properties, which are approximately 10%higher in terms of ultimate tensile strength(UTS)and yield strength after appropriate heat treatment. In as-built conditions, the alloy is characterized by the presence of soft orthorhombicα″martensite, necessitating a postprocessing heat treatment to decompose this phase and enhance the mechanical properties of the alloy.Usually,PBFed Ti6246 components undergo an annealing process that transforms theα″martensite into anα-βlamellar microstructure. The primary objective of this research was to develop a solution treatment and aging(STA)heat treatment tailored to the unique microstructure produced by the additive manufacturing process to achieve an ultrafine bilamellar microstructure reinforced by precipitation hardening. This study investigated the effects of various solution temperatures in theα-βfield(ranging from 800 to 875℃),cooling media(air and water),and aging time to determine the optimal heat treatment parameters for achieving the desired bilamellar microstructure. For each heat treatment condition,differentα-βmicrostructures were found, varying in terms of theα/βratio and the size of the primaryα-phase lamellae.Particular attention was given to how these factors were influenced by increases in solution temperature and how microhardness correlated with the percentage of the metastableβphase present after quenching.Tensile tests were performed on samples subjected to the most promising heat treatment parameters.A comparison with literature data revealed that the optimized STA treatment enhanced hardness and UTS by13%and 23%,respectively,compared with those of the annealed alloy.Fracture surface analyses were conducted to investigate fracture mechanisms. 展开更多

This study investigated the microstructure and hydrogen absorption properties of a rare-earth high-entropy alloy(HEA),YGdTbDyHo.Results indicated that the YGdTbDyHo alloy had a microstructure of equiaxed grains, with the alloy elements distributed homogeneously.Upon hydrogen absorption, the phase structure of the HEA changed from a solid solution with an hexagonal-close-packed(HCP)structure to a high-entropy hydride with an faced-centered-cubic(FCC)structure without any secondary phase precipitated. The alloy demonstrated a maximum hydrogen storage capacity of 2.33 H/M(hydrogen atom/metal atom)at 723 K,with an enthalpy change(ΔH)of-141.09 kJ·mol^(-1)and an entropy change(ΔS)of-119.14 J·mol^(-1)·K^(-1).The kinetic mechanism of hydrogen absorption was hydride nucleation and growth, with an apparent activation energy(E_(a))of 20.90 kJ·mol^(-1).Without any activation, the YGdTbDyHo alloy could absorb hydrogen quickly(180 s at 923 K)with nearly no incubation period observed. The reason for the obtained value of 2.33 H/M was that the hydrogen atoms occupied both tetrahedral and octahedral interstices. These results demonstrate the potential application of HEAs as a high-capacity hydrogen storage material with a large H/M ratio, which can be used in the deuterium storage field. 展开更多
