The age of marriage is on the increase in this part of the world. Many women are now increasingly getting engulfed in career and academic pursuits at the detriment of early marriage. Many men are also not interested in marrying women who have no job. There is age-related acceleration of primordial follicle depletion which is of great clinical importance because it is associated with a significant decrease in fecundity. Objective: This study assessed the ages of the marriage of women who attended Fertility and Antenatal clinics at the National Obstetric Fistula Centre and Smile Specialist Hospital, Abakaliki, and their relationship with the fertility pattern of these women. Methods: This was a cross-sectional study of 352 consenting married women who sought and received fertility and Antenatal care at the National Obstetric Fistula Centre and Smile Specialist Hospital Abakaliki, South-East Nigeria between February 1, 2022 and January 31, 2024. Semi-structured questionnaires were administered to the participants over a two-year period. Data was analyzed using IBM SPSS version 20. A test of statistical significance was done using Chi Square. Results: The age group with the highest education was 26 - 30. This was statistically significant (X2 = 90.893, P-value 2 = 294.555, P-value 2 = 173.007, p-value 2 = 129.494, P-value 2 = 169.300, p-value 2 = 279.230, p-value Conclusion: There is increased difficulty at conception at marriage age above 25 years. The major reasons for delayed marriage were academic pursuit and lack of gainful employment. Education of the masses and inclusion of biological dynamics of the female reproductive behaviours as part of the core school curriculum will help enlighten the female and the male folks alike to enable them to make informed decisions with regard to the timing of marriage and commencement of procreation. This will help reduce infertility and save millions of couples the agony associated with infertility.展开更多

However, according to statistics, CNMs are not always successful and satisfactory as they look: the divorce rate is reported to be on the increase. The paper studies several Sino American CNM cases which ended in failure from an intercultural perspective, and on that bases it points out that it is not cultural differences but people’s attitudes toward cultural differences that lead to the breakdown of the CNMs. In this paper, ethnocentrism is specially discussed as a major barrier to successful intercultural communication. Pitching itself within two Nigerian agrarian communities: The study worked with 50 randomly selected farming households from each site. Data was collected through in-depth one-on-one and follow-up interviews, questionnaires, and direct observation. Extensive multivariate and descriptive statistical analysis, tables and charts were used for data interpretation. Combining data-sets from the two sites and between families the study found that early marriage inhibits farmers' chances for education which in turn compounds their situation; those who married early with little or no education tend to have large families and suffer higher poverty incidence; children from such families often repeat the same cycles and so trapped in poverty; farmers who did not fall into this twin situation fared far much better on all counts in addition to exhibiting higher motivation to better their social capital and family socioeconomics; those in the first group are discouraged especially by the responsibility of fending for their many children. The study concludes that these two factors stand in the way to realizing the MDGs among SSA rural farmers; accordingly, some policy recommendations are put forward to address the situation.展开更多

This paper brings to light of the social significance of marriage migration and makes an inquiry into its characteristics, patterns and mechanism. It is thought the marriage plays an important role in hastening population migration. While compared with other forms of population migration, marriage migration is distinctive, showing its own characteristics, such as irreversibility in direction, shorter distance, age long continuity, regional dispersal, gentler fluctuation in number, sexual imbalance, and multiple factors at work. Although the manifestation of marriage migration is complicated, its patterns are clear, that is: pattern 1, women to men’s habitation; pattern 2, men to women’s habitation; and pattern 3, men and women to a third place. It is thought that both the characters and the patterns of marriage migration are determined by its mechanism, because marriage migration is not only a kind of biological action but also a kind of social action, the former of which determines whether it happens, while the latter of which determines how it does. The difference of men’s and women’s social status, that of cities and country, and that of developed and backward areas may result in abnormality of marriage migration, while the socio biological feedback of sexual imbalance and regional environmental deterioration can give rise to some self adjusting mechanism. In the end of the paper, based on a sample analysis, it concludes four tendencies towards marriage migration in China: (1) pair migration is emerging; (2) the changing trend of urban and rural regional relationship of marriage is contrary; (3) urban “island effect” in marriage is weakening; and (4) the potential energy between developed and less developed areas is still strong.展开更多

Data were collected through direct interview and a prepared questionnaire including patients’ characteristics and Pap smear results. Results: Mean age of studied women was 39.9 ± 11.4 years and mean age of marriage was 19 ± 5 years. Abnormal Pap results were reported in 63.5% of them. A significant association was observed between abnormal Pap smear and each of age 20 - 30 years, ≤18 years age at marriage, marriage duration >10 years, irregular menstrual cycle, tubal ligation and abnormal medical history (P < 0.05). Conclusions: Early marriage was strongly associated with abnormal Pap smear results in Iraqi women.展开更多

Conclusions: Early marriage was strongly associated with abnormal Pap smear results in Iraqi women.
