The pulsatile blood flow through an anatomically realistic model of the abdominal aorta and renal arteries reconstructed from CT-scan images is simulated, which incorporates the fluid-structure interaction (FSI). In addition to the investigation of the RAS effects on the wall shear stress and the displacement of the vessel wall, it is determined that the RAS leads to decrease in the renal mass flow. This paper describes the application of a three-dimensional lattice Boltzmann method (LBM) to Newtonian and non-Newtonian (Bingham fluid in this work) flows with free surfaces. A mass tracking algorithm was incorporated to capture the free surface, whereas Papanastasiou's modified model was used for Bingham fluids. The lattice Boltzmann method was first validated using two benchmarks: Newtonian flow through a square cross-section tube and Bingham flow through a circular cross-section tube. Afterward, the dam-break problem for the Newtonian fluid and the slump test for Bingham fluid were simulated to validate the free-surface-capturing algorithm. The numerical results were in good agreement with analytical results, as well as other simulations, thereby proving the validity and correctness of the current method. The proposed method is a promising substitute for time-consuming and costly physical experiments to solve problems encountered in geotechnical and geological engineering, such as the surge and debris flow induced by a landslide or earthquake. 展开更多

The effect of chemical reaction on free convection heat and mass transfer for a non-Newtonian power law fluid over a vertical flat plate embedded in a fluid-saturated porous medium has been studied in the presence of the yield stress and the Soret effect. The governing boundary layer equations and boundary conditions are cast into a dimen- sionless form by similarity transformations, and the resulting system of equations is solved by a finite difference method. The results are preSented and discussed for concentration profiles, as well as the Nusselt number and the Sherwood number for various values of the parameters, which govern the problem. The results obtained show that the flow field is influenced appreciably by the presence of the chemical reaction parameter γ the order of.the chemical reaction parameter m, the Soret number St, the buoyancy ratio N, the Lewis number Le, and the dimensionless rheological parameter Ω. 展开更多

The free convective heat transfer to the power-law non-Newtonian flow from a vertical plate in a porous medium saturated with nanofluid under laminar conditions is investigated. It is considered that the non-Newtonian nanofluid obeys the mathematical model of power-law. The model used for the nanofluid incorporates the effects of Brown- ian motion and thermophoresis. The partial differential system governing the problem is transformed into an ordinary system via a usual similarity transformation. The numer- ical solutions of the resulting ordinary system are obtained. These solutions depend on the power-law index n, Lewis number Le, buoyancy-ratio number Nr, Brownian motion number Nb, and thermophoresis number Nt. For various values of n and Le, the effects of the influence parameters on the fluid behavior as well as the reduced Nusselt number are presented and discussed. 展开更多

The amino acids are necessarily nutritious components, their diffusions in body fluid and blood that be- long to typical non-Newtonian fluid are of virtual importance to control the diffusive process and help clinical treatment. In this article, a holographic interferometer has been adopted to measure the diffusivity of amino acids in non-Newtonian fluid with the use of real-time holographic interference technique. In order to prove the reliability of the experimental instrument, the diffusivities of sucrose aqueous solution at 298.15K were determined. The meas- ured result displays a satisfactory accuracy of the apparatus used. Furthermore, the diffusion coefficients of glynine, L-serine, L-threonine and L-valine in polyacrylamide (PAM) aqueous solution at 298.15K were measured, respec- tively. The experimental data were fitted by a newly proposed correlation equation based on Li’s predictive model. The calculating results by the present model are at considerably good agreement with experimental values, and the maximum average deviation is only 0.5%. 展开更多

A Jeffery-Hamel (J-H) flow model of the non-Newtonian fluid type inside a convergent wedge (inclined walls) with a wall friction is derived by a nonlinear ordinary differential equation with appropriate boundary conditions based on similarity relationships. Unlike the usual power law model, this paper develops nonlinear viscosity based only on a tangential coordinate function due to the radial geometry shape. Two kinds of solutions are developed, i.e., analytical and semi-analytical (numerical) solutions with suitable assumptions. As a result of the parametric examination, it has been found that the Newtonian normalized velocity gradually decreases with the tangential direction progress. Also, an increase in the friction coefficient leads to a decrease in the normalized Newtonian velocity profile values. However, an increase in the Reynolds number causes an increase in the normalized velocity function values. Additionally, for the small values of wedge semi-angle, the present solutions are in good agreement with the previous results in the literature. 展开更多

A combination of the computational symbolic calculation, mathematical approach and physico-mechanical model lends to a computational intellectual analytical approach developed by the author. There is a principal difference between the computer proof and the computer derivation completed by the computer, also difference between the numerical and symbolic calculations. In this investigation the computational analytical approach is extended, and an unsteady flow of non-Newtonian fluid in the gap between two rotating coaxial cylinders is studied. The Oldroyd fluid B model is used by which the Weissenberg effects are explained in a good comparison with the experiments. The governing equations are reduced to a partial differential equation of 3 rd order for the dimensionless velocity. Using the computer software Macsyma and an improved variational approach the problem with the initial and boundary conditions is then reduced to a problem of an ordinary differential equation for different approximations. The analytical solutions are given for the 1 st, 2 nd and 3 rd approximations. The present investigation shows the ability of the computational symbolic manipulation in solving the problems of non-Newtonian fluid flows. There is a possibility of that to solve the problems in mathematics and mechanics. An important conclusion can be drawn from the results that the transition from a steady state to another steady state is non-unique. 展开更多

When non-Darcian flow is degenerated into Darcian flow, a comparison between numerical solutions and analytical solutions was made to verify reliability of finite difference solutions. Finally, taking into account the ramp time-dependent loading, consolidation behaviors with non-Darcian flow under various parameters were analyzed. This study presents an overview of viscoelastic characteristics of biocomposites derived of natural-fibre-reinforced thermoplastic polymers and predictive models have been presented in order to understand their rheological behavior. Various constitutive equations are reviewed for a better understanding of their applicability to polymer melt in determining the viscosity. The models to be investigated are the Giesekus-Leonov model, the Upper Convected Maxwell (UCM) model, the White-Metzner model, K-BKZ model, the Oldroyd-B model, and the Phan-Thien-Tanner models. The aforementioned models are the most powerful for predicting the rheological behavior of hybrid and green viscoelastic materials in the presence of high shear rate and in all dimensions. The Phan-Thien Tanner model, the Oldroyd-B model, and the Giesekus model can be used in various modes to fit the relaxation modulus accurately and to predict the shear thinning as well as shear thickening characteristics. The Phan-Thien Tanner, K-BKZ, Upper convected Maxwell, Oldroyd-B, and Giesekus models predicted the steady shear viscosity and the transient first normal stress coefficient better than the White-Metzner model for green-fibre-reinforced thermoplastic composites. 展开更多

There are complex and perfect coagulation, anticoagulation and fibrinolysis systems in the human body and their fine regulatory mechanisms. Once the coagulation system and its regulatory mechanisms are destroyed, bleeding or thrombosis will occur very soon. In the blood coagulation, the blood viscoelasticity changes. Therefore, the thrombus elasticity measurement technology can be used to continuously monitor the changing blood viscoelasticity in order to study the process of coagulation. The results of the interaction among the various components of the blood can be obtained from coagulation to fibrinolysis by bedside detection. The traditional electromagnetic induction sensors, based on conventional coil inductance, are manufactured complexly, high cost and non-linear. Therefore, this paper proposes a non-Newtonian fluid viscoelasticity measurement method based on the piezoelectric effect. We use the piezoelectric bimorphs with the diameter of 21 mm and the total thickness of 0.38 mm and DSM coupling probes with the length of 3 mm, 5 mm and 7 mm to design the piezoelectric bimorphs driver. The viscoelasticity of different non-Newtonian fluids is tested. The vibration amplitudes of the piezoelectric bimorphs and liquid surfaces range from 0.43 μm to 3.52 μm. Consequently, the feasibility of in vitro detection of thrombus is confirmed in principle and the above scheme is validated theoretically and experimentally, which provides the basis for the measurement of blood viscoelasticity, the in vitro detection of thrombus and the manufacture of blood coagulation instrument. 展开更多
