The nonlinear partial differential equations of shallow shell are reduced to the nonlinear integral-differential equations by the method of Green's function. To solve the integral-differential equations, expansion method is used to obtain Green's function. Then the integral-differential equations are reduced to the form with degenerate core by expanding Green's function as series of characteristic function. Therefore, the integral-differential equations become nonlinear ordinary differential equations with regard to time. The amplitude-frequency response under harmonic force is obtained by considering single mode vibration. As a numerical example, forced vibration phenomena of shallow spherical shells with sinusoidal corrugation are studied. The obtained solutions are available for reference to design of corrugated shells .展开更多

The governing equation is derived from the Eulerian equation of motion of a continuum for axially accelerating strings. The time-rate of the total mechanical energy associated with the vibration is calculated for the string with its ends moving in a prescribed way. For a string moving in a constant axial speed and constrained by two fixed ends, a conserved quantity is proved to remain unchanged during three-dimensional vibration, while the string energy is not conserved. An approximate conserved quantity is derived from the conserved quantity in the neighborhood of the straight equilibrium configuration. The approximate conserved quantity is applied to verify the Lyapunov stability of the straight equilibrium configuration. Numerical simulations are performed for a rubber string and a steel string. The results demonstrate the variation of the total mechanical energy and the invariance of the conserved quantity.展开更多

The oil-film whips have attracted many studies while the water-film whips in the water lubricated sliding bearing have been little researched with the mechanism still an open problem. The dynamic fluid film forces in a water sliding bearing are investigated numerically with rotational, whirling and squeezing motions of the journal using a nonlinear model to identify the relationships between the three motions. Rotor speed-up and slow-down experiments are then conducted with the rotor system supported by a water lubricated sliding bearing to induce the water-film whirl/whip and verify the relationship. The experimental results show that the vibrations of the journal alternated between increasing and decreasing rather than continuously increasing as the rotational speed increased to twice the first critical speed, which can be explained well by the nonlinear model. The radial growth rate of the whirl motion greatly affects the whirl frequency of the journal and is responsible for the frequency lock in the water-film whip. Further analysis shows that increasing the lubricating water flow rate changes the water-film whirl/whip characteristics, reduces the first critical speed, advances the time when significant water-film whirling motion occurs, and also increases the vibration amplitude at the bearing center which may lead to the rotor-stator rub-impact. The study gives the insight into the water-film whirl and whip in the water lubricated sliding bearing.展开更多

The results demonstrate the variation of the total mechanical energy and the invariance of the conserved quantity.

文摘Many industrial applications and experiments have shown that sliding bearings often experience fluid film whip due to nonlinear fluid film forces which can cause rotor-stator rub-impact failures. The study gives the insight into the water-film whirl and whip in the water lubricated sliding bearing.
文摘This article presents the investigation of nonlinear vibration analysis of tapered porous functionally graded skew(TPFGS)plate considering the effects of geometrical non-uniformities to optimize the thickness in the structural design. The TPFGS plate is analyzed considering linearly,bi-linearly,and exponentially varying thicknesses. The plate’s effective material properties are tailor-made using a modified power-law distribution in which gradation varies along the thickness direction of the TPFGS plate.Incorporating the non-linear finite element formulation to develop the kinematic equation’s displacement model for the TPFGS plate is based on the first-order shear deformation theory(FSDT)in conjunction with von Karman’s nonlinearity. The nonlinear governing equations are established by Hamilton’s principle. The direct iterative method is adopted to solve the nonlinear mathematical relations to obtain the nonlinear frequencies. The influence of the porosity distributions and porosity parameter indices on the nonlinear frequency responses of the TPFGS plate for different skew angles and variable thicknesses are studied for various geometrical parameters. The influence of taper ratio, variable thickness, skewness, porosity distributions, gradation, and boundary conditions on the plate’s nonlinear vibration is demonstrated. The nonlinear frequency analysis reveals that the geometrical nonuniformities and porosities significantly influence the porous functionally graded plates with varying thickness than the uniform thickness.Besides, exponentially and linearly variable thicknesses can be considered for the thickness optimizations of TPFGS plates in the structural design.
文摘Various nonlinear phenomena such as bifurcations and chaos in the responses of carbon nanotubes(CNTs)are recognized as being major contributors to the inaccuracy and instability of nanoscale mechanical systems. Therefore, the main purpose of this paper is to predict the nonlinear dynamic behavior of a CNT conveying viscousfluid and supported on a nonlinear elastic foundation. The proposed model is based on nonlocal Euler–Bernoulli beam theory. The Galerkin method and perturbation analysis are used to discretize the partial differential equation of motion and obtain the frequency-response equation, respectively.A detailed parametric study is reported into how the nonlocal parameter, foundation coefficients, fluid viscosity, and amplitude and frequency of the external force influence the nonlinear dynamics of the system.Subharmonic,quasi-periodic,and chaotic behaviors and hardening nonlinearity are revealed by means of the vibration time histories,frequency-response curves, bifurcation diagrams, phase portraits, power spectra, and Poincarémaps. Also, the results show that it is possible to eliminate irregular motion in the whole range of external force amplitude by selecting appropriate parameters.
