The axes of the strip and cylinder are parallel. The control parameters are strip width ratio and strip position characterized by angle of attack and distance from the cylinder. Wind tunnel tests show that the vortex shedding from both sides of the cylinder can be suppressed, and mean drag and fluctuating lift on the cylinder can be reduced if the strip is installed in an effective zone downstream of the cylinder. A phenomenon of mono-side vortex shedding is found. The strip-induced local changes of velocity profiles in the near wake of the cylinder are measured, and the relation between base suction and peak value in the power spectrum of fluctuating lift is studied. The control mechanism is then discussed from different points of view. 展开更多

The effects of Reynolds number on both large-scale and small-scale turbulence properties are investigated in a square jet issuing from a square pipe. The detailed velocity fields were measured at five different exit Reynolds numbers of 8 × 10^3 〈 Re 〈 5 × 10^4. It is found that both large-scale properties (e.g,, rates of mean velocity decay and spread) and small-scale properties (e.g., the dimensionless dissipation rate constant A = εL/(u^2)^3/2) are dependent on Re for Re ≤ 3 ×10^4 or Reλ ≤ 190, but virtually become Re-independent with increasing Re or Reλ. In addition, for Reλ 〉 190, the value ofA = εL/(u^2)^3/2 in the present square jet converges to 0.5, which is consistent with the observation in direct numerical simulations of box turbulence, but lower than that in circular jet, plate wake flows, and grid turbulence. The discrepancies in critical Reynolds number and A = εL/(u^2)^3/2 among different turbulent flows most likely result from the flow type and initial conditions. 展开更多

Magnetic field and temperature dependence of the properties of the ground state of the strong-coupling bound magnetopolaron in quantum rods (QRs) with hydrogenic impurity is studied by means of the Huybrechts- Lee-Low-Pines transformation method and the quantum statistical theory. The expressions for the ground-state energy and the mean number ofphonons of the magnetopolaron are derived. Results of the numerical calculations show that the bound state of the magnetopolaron cannot be formed when the value of the aspect ratio of the QR, the dielectric constant ratio, the electron-phonon coupling strength or the temperature parameter is small. The larger the deviation of the value of aspect ratio e′ from 1 is, the more it is unfavorable to the stability of the ground state of the magnetopolaron. When the magnetopolaron is in the bound state, the absolute value of its ground-state energy and its mean number ofphonons increase with an increase of the dielectric constant ratio and confinement strength of QRs, but decrease with an increase in the cyclotron frequency of the external magnetic field and the temperature. The absolute value of the ground-state energy and the mean number of phonons of the magnetopolaron decrease with decreasing e′ when e′ 〈 1, but decrease with increasing e′ when e′ 〉 1. They get the maximum value at e′=1. 展开更多

The main central thrust(MCT)is one of the major thrusts in Himalayas. In central Himalaya,MCT was defined as a contact between underlying Lesser Himalayan Sequence(LHS)and overlying higher Himalayan crystallines(HHC).However,in the Kashmir Himalayas, the main central thrust zone(MCTZ),shear zone associated with MCT,is overlain by Kashmir Tethyan Sequence suggesting that the MCTZ has been deformed through a mechanism different than the mechanism responsible for MCTZ evolution in other parts of the Himalayas. In the present study we used structural, microfabric and kinematic analyses to investigate the deformation kinematics of MCTZ.Microstructural investigation revealed that the quartz in orthogneiss mylonites of MCTZ was dynamically recrystallized by grain boundary migration(GBM)and sub-grain rotation recrystallisation(SGR)with top-toSW sense of shear. The mean kinematic vorticity number(W;)just above the thrust ranges from 0.72to 0.84(40%–52%pure shear component)decreasing upwards to 0.65–0.71(35%–50%pure shear component).Deformation in the MCTZ is characterized by Rxzstrain ratio varying from 2.7 to 8.The present study suggested that the MCTZ suffered 3%–40%vertical shortening and 3%–66%transportparallel elongation. The results suggested that the HHC’s were not completely exhumed to the topographic surfaces in the Kashmir Himalayas.Along the basal decollement,i.e.,the main Himalayan thrust(MHT),the deformation continued until MCTZ reached the brittle-ductile transition where deformation mechanism changed to the brittle and the MCTZ rocks were transported to the surface through slip on brittle MCT. 展开更多
