The fourth-order Runge-Kutta integration algorithm was employed to solve the equations of the dynamic model, in conjunction with the three-dimensional finite element method. The 3D numerical data was calculated using Comsol Multiphysics, which accounts for the nonlinearity of the ferromagnetic material and the 3D nature of the HVRM. The outcomes of this study are precise and accurately predict the dynamic behaviour of the HVRM in terms of rotor position response, rotational speed and torque. The distinctive contribution of this work lies in the 3D numerical modelling of the HVRM and the subsequent evaluation and analysis of its dynamic operation. Analytical and numerical 2D studies are less resource-intensive and time-consuming, and are more straightforward and rapid to analyse and interpret. However, they are constrained in their capacity to examine spatial, volumetric interactions and intricate dynamics such as flux studies where three 3D effects cannot be disregarded, winding end effects and the configuration and positioning of the interposed permanent magnet.展开更多

This study focuses on the computational efficiency, including the computational time and accuracy, of numerical integrations in solving FE numerical substructure in RTHSs. First, sparse matrix storage schemes are adopted to decrease the computational time of FE numerical substructure. In this way, the task execution time(TET) decreases such that the scale of the numerical substructure model increases. Subsequently, several commonly used explicit numerical integration algorithms, including the central difference method(CDM), the Newmark explicit method, the Chang method and the Gui-λ method, are comprehensively compared to evaluate their computational time in solving FE numerical substructure. CDM is better than the other explicit integration algorithms when the damping matrix is diagonal, while the Gui-λ(λ = 4) method is advantageous when the damping matrix is non-diagonal. Finally, the effect of time delay on the computational accuracy of RTHSs is investigated by simulating structure-foundation systems. Simulation results show that the influences of time delay on the displacement response become obvious with the mass ratio increasing, and delay compensation methods may reduce the relative error of the displacement peak value to less than 5% even under the large time-step and large time delay.展开更多

Enhancing our knowledge from their properties such as crack distribution, density, and/or aspect ratio is crucial in geo-systems. The most well-known mechanical parameter for such an evaluation is wave velocity through which one can qualitatively or quantitatively characterize the porous media. In small scales, such information is obtained using the ultrasonic pulse velocity(UPV) technique as a non-destructive test. In large-scale geo-systems, however, it is inverted from seismic data. In this paper, we take advantage of the recent advancements in machine learning(ML) for analyzing wave signals and predict rock properties such as crack density(CD) – the number of cracks per unit volume. To this end, we designed numerical models with different CDs and, using the rotated staggered finite-difference grid(RSG) technique, simulated wave propagation. Two ML networks, namely Convolutional Neural Networks(CNN) and Long Short-Term Memory(LSTM), are then used to predict CD values. Results show that, by selecting an optimum value for wavelength to crack length ratio, the accuracy of predictions of test data can reach R2> 96% with mean square error(MSE) < 25e-4(normalized values). Overall, we found that:(i) performance of both CNN and LSTM is highly promising,(ii) accuracy of the transmitted signals is slightly higher than the reflected signals,(iii) accuracy of 2D signals is marginally higher than 1D signals,(iv)accuracy of horizontal and vertical component signals are comparable,(v) accuracy of coda signals is less when the whole signals are used. Our results, thus, reveal that the ML methods can provide rapid solutions and estimations for crack density, without the necessity of further modeling.展开更多

Improvements in computational efficiency and acceleration in convergence are achieved by calculating both an unsteady pressure gradient which is due to fluid acceleration and a good global pressure field correction based on mass flow for the pressure Poisson equation. Applications of the enhanced method to oscillatory flow in curved pipes yield an order of magnitude increase in speed and efficiency, thus allowing the study of more complex flow problems such as flow through the mammalian abdominal aorta at the iliac arteries bifurcation. To analyze the large forces which can exist on stent graft of patients with abdominal aor- tic aneurysm (AAA) disease, a complete derivation of the force equations is presented. The accelerated numerical algorithm and the force equations derived are used to calculate flow and forces for two individuals whose geometry is obtained from CT data and whose respective blood pressure measurements are obtained experimentally. Although the use of endovascular stent grafts in diseased patients can alter vessel geometries, the physical characteristics of stents are still very different when compared to native blood vessels of healthy subjects. The geometry for the AAA stent graph patient studied in this investigation induced flows that resulted in large forces that are primarily caused by the blood pressure. These forces are also directly related to the flow cross-sectional area and the angle of the iliac arteries relative to the main descending aorta. Furthermore, the fluid flow is significantly disturbed in the diseased patient with large flow recirculation and stagnant regions which are not present for healthy subjects.展开更多

And then, by solving the corresponding eigen-value equations with numerical computational method, the relation curves between perturbation frequency and spacial growth rate of the mixing layer for the varying particle loading, ratio of particle velocity to fluid velocity and Stokes number are got. Sever al important conclusions on the effect of suspended solid particles on unstability of the mixing layer are presented in the end by analyzing all the relation curves.展开更多

文摘Using an improved computational fluid dynamics (CFD) method developed for highly unsteady three-dimensional flows, numerical simulations for oscillating flow cycles and detailed unsteady simulations of the flow and forces on the aortic vessels at the iliac bifurcation, for both healthy and diseased patients, are analyzed. Furthermore, the fluid flow is significantly disturbed in the diseased patient with large flow recirculation and stagnant regions which are not present for healthy subjects.
文摘By considering the effect of suspended solid particles in the ordinary equations for two-dimension inviscid incompressible mixing layer, the Rayleigh equation and the modified Rayleigh equation are obtained. And then, by solving the corresponding eigen-value equations with numerical computational method, the relation curves between perturbation frequency and spacial growth rate of the mixing layer for the varying particle loading, ratio of particle velocity to fluid velocity and Stokes number are got. Sever al important conclusions on the effect of suspended solid particles on unstability of the mixing layer are presented in the end by analyzing all the relation curves.
