The concentrations of copper in water and sediment showed significant difference at different sampling stations. The distribution characteristics of copper in water and sediment were obtained by using discrete and continuous numerical characteristics. The results indicated that the average concentrations of copper in water and sediment decreased slightly after its accumulation. While the deviations of the concentrations of copper in water and sediment from the expectation increased significantly after its accumulation. The skewness distributions of the concentrations of copper in water and sediment did not change much before and after its accumulation. The kurtosis distributions of the concentrations of copper in water and sediment decreased significantly after its accumulation. Therefore, the precise distribution characteristics of copper in water and sediment were obtained through the combination of the discrete and continuous numerical characteristics. .展开更多

In particular, the FOM is improved by increasing the accuracy of both the predictor and corrector using the estimated tangent stiffness of the tested structure. The numerical characteristics of the FOM, including stability and accuracy, are investigated in this study. It is shown that FOM is conditionally stable. The stability and accuracy characteristics are dependent on the accuracy of the estimated tangent stiffness and the parameters associated with the acceleration variation in the time-stepping integration method. Mass-spring systems with different types of nonlinearity, including hardening, stiffening, and softening behavior, are used to evaluate the performance of the FOM. It is found that the FOM can capture these types of nonlinearity with satisfactory accuracy. Using a prototype 12-story composite coupled wall system, the influences of the strong nonlinearity of the system as well as the displacement control errors from hydraulic actuators on the performance of the FOM are explored. The results show that the FOM is capable of generating reasonably accurate results despite the presence of strong structural nonlinearity and displacement control errors.展开更多

It is indicated that the LED with the compound TCL of 3-layer Gr and 1 nm NiOx has the best thermal-electrical performance from the view point of the maximum temperature and the current density deviation of multiple quantum wells, and the maximum temperature occurs near the n-electrode rather than p-electrode. Furthermore, to depress the current crowding on the LED, the electrode pattern parameters including p- and n-electrode length, p-electrode buried depth and the distance of n-electrode to active area are optimized. It is found that either increasing p- or n-electrode length and buried depth or decreasing the distance of n-electrode from the active area will decrease the temperature of the LED, while the increase of the n-electrode length has more prominent effect. Typically, when the n-electrode length increases to 0.8 times of the chip size, the temperature of the GaN LED with the inm NiOx/3-1ayer-Gr hybrid TCLs could drop about 7K and the current density uniformity could increase by 23.8%, compared to 0.4 times of the chip size. This new finding will be beneficial for improvement of the thermal- electrical performance of LEDs with various conductive TCLs such as NiOx/Gr or ITO/Gr as current spreading layers.展开更多

It is assumed that the pipe flow would transform into seepage flow when the aggregates are plugged into the water inrush channel and the seepage flow would disappear along with grouting process. The simulation results show that the flow velocity will increase with an increase in height of aggregates accumulation body during the aggregates filling process; the maximum seepage velocity occurs on the top of plugging zone; and the water flow decreases with increasing plugging height of water inrush channel. Finally, the field construction results show that the water inrush channel can be plugged effectively by the compacted body prepared with aggregate and cement slurry.展开更多

The shape, angularity, surface texture and internal pore structure of aggregate particles for different size and gradation were numerically represented by sphericity (ψ) and shape index (SI), angularity number (AN), index of aggregate particle shape and texture (IAPST), porosity and pore size, respectively. The results show that SCR is a porous and rough aggregate. Apparent density, void, water absorption and smashing index of SCR are obviously higher than those of LCR with the same gradation, respectively. This model has nine layers in the vertical and the model variables are represented in the horizontal as truncated expansions of the surface spherical harmonics with rhomboidal truncation at wave number 15. The model involves comparatively complete physical processes and parameterizations with mountains.Using the above model, two experimental schemes are designed, namely control case and anomalous sea surface temperature case. The above two schemes are respectively integrated for forty days and the simulated results are obtained from the last 30-day averaged simulations. The simulations show that positive SST anomalies over equatorial central-eastern Pacific weakens Indian monsoon circulation, decreases precipitation in Indian sub-continent whereas it intensifies East Asian monsoon circulation and increases precipitation in East Asian area. All these results reflect the characteristics of Asian summer monsoon during the El Nino period. In this paper, SST anomalies over equatorial central-eastern Pacific have a direct influence on the intensity and position of subtropical high via the wave train over Northern Hemisphere, which is similar to that suggested by Nitta(1987) and the wave train over Southern Hemisphere has an influence on the intensity of Muscarene high and Australia high resulting in affecting cross equatorial flow. As a result, atmospheric interior heat sources and sinks are redistributed because of the change of cross equatorial flow. And the response of atmosphere to the new heat source and sink has a significant influence on Asian summer monsoon.展开更多

Based on that, the structural system reliability is analyzed with a fourth-order moment method. The reliability sensitivity is required to conduct the differential operation of the numerical characteristic functions. A reliability sensitivity analysis formula is then derived in combination with the relation of the differential operation. Based on the matrix theory and Kronecker algebra, this paper systematically derives a matrix expression of the first four moments of the state functions, and establishes the matrix relation between the first four moments of the state functions and those of the basic random variables. On this basis, a differential operation formula of the first four moments of the state functions is further derived against the first four moments of the basic random variables. The vector relation between the state functions and the multidimensional basic random variables is described by means of the matrix operation to extend the operation method. Direct numerical simulations (DNS) with a direct-forcing/fictitious domain (DF/FD) method were conducted to study the hydrodynamic performance of a CFBB. The effects of particle-fluid density ratio, particle number, and fil- ter screens preventing particles flowing out of the reactor were investigated. Depending on density ratio, two flow patterns are evident: the circulation mode in which the suspension rises along one sidewall and descends along the other sidewall, and the non-circulation mode in which the whole suspension roughly flows upward. The circulation mode takes place under non-neutral-buoyancy where the particle sedimentation dominates, whereas the non-circulation mode occurs under pure or near-neutral buoy- ancy with particle-fluid density ratios of unity or near unity. With particle-fluid density ratio of 1.01, the bioartificial liver reactor performs optimally as the significant particle accumulation existing in the non-circulation mode and the large shear forces on particles in the circulation mode are avoided. At higher particle volume fractions, more particles accumulate at the filter screens and a secondary counter circulation to the primary flow is observed at the top of the bed. Modelled as porous media, the filter screens play a negative role on particle fluidization velocities; without screens, particles are fluidized faster because of the higher fluid velocities in the jet center region. This work extends the DF/FD-based DNS to a fluidized bed and accounts for effects from inclined side walls and porous media, providing some hydrodynamics insight that is important for CFBB design and operation optimization.展开更多
