Dispersion of nano-La2O3 in MC nylo... A series of La2O3/MC nylon nanocomposites were prepared via in situ polymerization. The effects of content of nano-La2O3 on the mechanical properties of nanocomposites were studied. Dispersion of nano-La2O3 in MC nylon matrix was observed with SEM. The crystal structure of nanocomposites was characterized by means of XRD. SEM analysis shows that La2O3 nanoparticles are uniformly dispersed in MC nylon matrix and little clustering exists when the content of nano- La2O3 is lower than 1%, however, when the content of nano-La2O3 is more than 1%, it begins to cluster. XRD analysis indicats that nano-La2O3 does not change the crystal structure of MC nylon. Mechanical properties tests show that the tensile strength, elongation at break, impact strength, flexural strength, and flexural modulus of nanocomposites first increase then decrease as the content of nano-La2O3 is increased. When the content of nano-La2O3 is 0.5%, the tensile strength and elongation at break of nanocomposites reach maximum, which are 17.9% and 52.1% higher respectively than those of MC nylon. When the content of nano-La2O3 is 1.0%, the impact strength, flexural strength and flexural modulus of nanocomposites reach maximum, which are 36.6 %, 12.7 % and 16.3 % higher respectively than those of MC nylon. 展开更多

The luminescent fibers have a good application prospect.The feature of this paper is that efficient luminescent nylon 6(PA6)composite nanofibers are successfully prepared by electrospinning.The luminescent PA6 composite nanofibers composed of PA6,Eu(BA)3Phen and Tb(BAO)3Phen(BA=P-methylbenzoic acid,BAO=P-methoxybenzoic acid,and Phen=1,10-phenanthroline).The structure and properties were characterized by scanning electron microscopy(SEM),Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FT-IR),fluorescence spectroscopy,and thermogravimetriy(TG)analysis.The correspondence between polymer matrix and as-prepared composite nanofibers properties has also been studied in detail.Through using hexafluoroisopropanol(HFIP)as solvent,Eu(BA)3Phen/PA6 and Tb(BAO)3Phen/PA6 composite nanofibers exhibit good luminescence properties.It is noted that only 5%rare earth luminescent materials are added to Tb(BAO)3Phen/PA6 composite nanofibers,and the luminescence intensity of the as-prepared nanofibers reaches half that of the pure rare earth luminescent materials.Furthermore,uniform dispersion of pure rare earth luminescent materials in the as-prepared nanofibers gives the composite nanofibers good mechanical properties and thermal stability.These results provide an important basis for the preparation and wide application of new PA6 luminescent fibers. 展开更多

Investigating the use of an ionic liquid for rare earth mineral flotation

Common collectors for rare earth mineral(REM) flotation,which include carboxylates and hydroxamates,face problems such as being non-selective and sensitive to impurity ions.A type of ionic liquid(IL),tetraethylammonium mono-(2-ethylhexyl)2-ethylhexyl phosphonate([N_(2222)][EHEHP]),has been investigated previously for rare earth elements(REE) solvent extraction,and was proven to be selective and effective.In this work,[N_(2222)][EHEHP] was evaluated as a collector in bastnasite(a primary REM source for REE production) flotation for the first time.The results were compared with quartz and hematite,two common gangue minerals in REM deposits.Zeta potential measurements and Fouriertransform infrared spectroscopy(FT-IR) were completed to investigate the surface chemical properties involved in the flotation of these minerals using this collector.The findings were compared with microflotation results.FT-IR and zeta potential measurements suggest adsorption of the collector’s phosphonate group onto bastnäsite and hematite,likely through chemisorption;whereas for quartz,the minimum micro flotation recovery is likely due to no adsorption of IL on its surface.Micro flotation re sults show higher collectability of [N_(2222)] [EHEHP] for hematite than bastnasite,the latter only shows appreciable recovery at pH 5 with elevated dosage of IL(500 g/t).To achieve better separation,a two-stage flotation scheme was designed and evaluated by bench scale flotation on a synthetic mineral mixture.The concentrates and tails were analyzed by magnetic separation,and it is found that bastnasite recovery over 90% with maximum upgrade ratio 1.7 can be achieved with elevated collector dosage. 展开更多

Tetragonally layered perovskite manganites of Nd2-2xSr1+2xMn2O7(x =0.25, 0.3, 0.4) were fabricated by using solid-state reaction technique. Structural characterization of the compounds was investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and FT-IR absorption spectra. The XRD patterns revealed that all the samples were single phase. X-ray photoemission spectroscopy (XPS) was used to investigate their electronic structures. It was found that manganese was in mixed states of Mn^3+ and Mn^4+ whereas lattice oxygen and chemical absorbed oxygen were existed in all the samples. The high temperature electrical properties of Nd2-2xSr1+2xMn2O7 (x = 0.3, 0.4) were measured by standard four-probe technique. The results showed that both compounds had semi-conductivity behavior in the temperature range of 300 - 1073 K, and the electrical conduction was dominated by thermally activated behavior above 500 K. 展开更多

Cytotoxicity of new Ho(Ⅲ) and Pr(Ⅲ) complexes

New complexes of coumarin-3-carboxylic acid(HCCA) with Ho(Ⅲ) and Pr(Ⅲ) were synthesized and their structures and spectral properties were investigated by elemental analysis,IR,Raman and NMR measurements.According to the experimental data the complexes’ formula and geometries were suggested.Vibrational frequencies,IR intensities and Raman activities as well as 1H NMR chemical shifts of HCCA and its Ho(Ⅲ) and Pr(Ⅲ) complexes were presented.The comparative experimental vibrational and NMR analyses of both the ligand and the Ln(Ⅲ) complexes predicted the bidentate binding to Ho(Ⅲ) and Pr(Ⅲ) through the deprotonated carboxylic oxygen and the carbonylic oxygen of the ligand.The cytotoxic/cytostatic properties of the ligand and the newly synthesized complexes of coumarin-3-carboxylic acid with Ho(Ⅲ) and Pr(Ⅲ) were tested by MTT reduction assay against two mouse tumor cell lines:melanoma B16 and fibrosarcoma L929.They were also tested for cytotoxicity against normal mouse peritoneal macrophages.The proliferation inhibitory effect of the complexes compared to that of the ligand proved their cytotoxic/cytostatic properties against both the tumor cell lines.In addition,the complexes were less cytotoxic against normal mouse macrophages and were able to modulate NO release by activated macrophages.The obtained results were in accordance with our previously published data concerning the activity of lanthanide(Ⅲ) complexes with other coumarin derivatives. 展开更多
