This paper is to study the conditions of teachers’occupational stress and anxiety by using cross-media teaching method, and reveals the influence relationship between them.To this end,a questionnaire survey of 228 teachers using cross-media teaching method from 3 schools in Guangdong Province(China)was conducted. The conclu-sions are as follows:Teachers who use cross-media teaching method have high levels of occupational stress and anxiety, lack of leadership and administrative support, overloaded work, state anxiety and trait anxiety are all at a high level.Under general characteristics differences, gender does not constitute a factor causing occupational stress and anxiety of the teachers using cross-media teaching. With the increase in the use of cross-media teach-ing,teachers feel gradually increase of occupational stress and trait anxiety in more work tasks, and occupational stress and state anxiety shows ups and downs due to lack of school policy support. From the relationship between occupational stress and anxiety, occupational stress and sub-variables without leadership and administrative sup-port,overloaded work, relationships with colleagues, and relationships with parents are all positively correlates with anxiety and have significant positive effects.Thereinto, whether the influence of occupational stress sub-vari-able on anxiety,or the state anxiety and trait anxiety of the anxiety sub-variables,overloaded work and lack of leadership and administrative support have always been the key factors that cause anxiety. Therefore,if the school or the relevant organization provides appropriate support and assistance to cross-media teaching,or appropri-ately reduce heavy tasks of teachers in cross-media teaching,so as to relieve occupational press and anxiety of the teachers, create good teaching quality, and promote the development of teaching technology. 展开更多

The aim of this study was to identify the correlation between stress, lifestyle, and hyperglycemia among middle-aged Japanese male workers. We also analyzed the obese (OB) and non-obese (non- OB) groups pertaining to the risk of hyperglycemia. A total of 353 male employees aged between 50 and 59 years taking health checkup sat a company in Japan were examined. The data were collected using validated scales of occupational stress and medical examination. Of the 353 employees, 335 (effective response rate 95%) were analyzed. “Support from colleagues” and “reward from work” reported by the OB group were lower than the non-OB group. The items “eating until satiety” and “having greasy meal often” were significantly more common in the OB group than in the non-OB group. There was a significant correlation between less sleep time and hyperglycemia in the OB group than in the non-OB group. The non-OB group reported more overtime hours than the OB group. Hyperglycemia in the non-OB group was positively correlated with long working hours, “workload,” and “mental workload.” The results indicated that the OB group would benefit from lifestyle interventions, for example, improvement in sleep time and eating habits may prevent hyperglycemia and eventually in obesity. Furthermore, it was suggested that stress in response to “workload” and “mental workload” owing to long working hours leads to hyperglycemia in the non-OB group. Therefore, the improvement of the workplace environment, reducing the number of hours at work, and stress management are required to prevent hyperglycemia in the non-OB group. 展开更多

Occupational burnout, even though is a widespread subject of research, remains one of the factors that threaten the implementation and organizational structure of the provided health service. The aim of our study is to investigate the level of burnout among health professionals in Hellenic Red Cross Hospital, one of the biggest Public Hospitals in Athens, Greece. The study population included 116 health workers and was conducted in 2022. The present study, cross-sectional in nature, investigates burnout symptoms in the health-related professionals by measuring the three dimensions of burnout;emotional exhaustion, depersonalization and personal achievements. The overall findings show that people who provide health care services in hospitals are a vulnerable group to burnout syndrome. More specifically, it was found that emotional exhaustion moves at medium to high levels, as did depersonalization, while personal achievements are at moderate to low levels. The findings of the present study indicate that emphasis should be given to increasing the personal achievements of employees, which will in turn reduce emotional exhaustion and depersonalization. Perhaps a more detailed study on this topic could enlighten us about the causes and treatment of burnout syndrome in health professionals. 展开更多

Background: The Ethiopian flower industry is growing fast with successful diversification of export products under greenhouse structures. Higher temperatures in the greenhouses pose a serious threat to the health of workers and add to the risk of occupational heat stress. Excessive heat in workplace settings also reduces work capacity and labour productivity. This study aims to investigate the level of heat exposure, and workers’ and managers’ perceptions and behavioural responses towards extreme heat exposure in a warming climate. Methods: We used the Wet Bulb Globe Temperature (WBGT) measured in representative greenhouses to capture the heat exposure during hotter and cooler seasons following ISO 7243 (generally risk of heat stress occurs when WBGT exceeds 26°C). A comparative cross-sectional study design with a stratified sampling method was used to assess occupational heat stress and workers’ perceptions of the impact of heat on their health and productivity in six different floriculture greenhouses in Ethiopia representing three different agro-ecologies and products. A questionnaire survey was conducted (30 managers/supervisors and 305 workers;76.1% female) to capture perceptions on heat exposures, symptoms of potential health impacts, productivity losses and coping mechanisms. Results: Heat exposure varied across different agroecologies, product types and greenhouse materials with a median WBGT Index of 25.5°C and a range from 18.1°C to 31.5°C. The impact of heat stress also varied across different employment sectors and geographical regions. Overall, workers in cut-flower greenhouses are exposed to higher than recommended WBGT Index (26°C) for 3 - 6 working hours daily. 65% of the managers reported that heat stress has a significant impact on the workers’ labour productivity, but do not have guidance about working in hot conditions. Workers reported more heat-related health issues and reduced productivity, especially in the mid-altitude greenhouses. About 50% of the workers reported that heat exposure decreased work productivity during hot hours. Sweating, exhaustion, heat-rashes, dehydration, crumps, nausea and headache were self-reported health issues. Labour productivity losses ranged from no loss to 19.5% in the mid- and low-altitudes. Conclusions and Recommendations: Excessive workplace heat in the greenhouses is both an occupational health hazard and detrimental to productivity in the floriculture industry. However, the level of understanding and actions on the ground regarding occupational heat stress are low. The code of conduct in place now does not consider the occupational heat stress issues. Multiple actions (engineering, management, training and policy-related recommendations) have to be implemented by Ethiopian Horticultural Producers and Exporters Association (EHPEA) and farm owners to mitigate heat stress and loss of productivity. Designing and implementing these heat prevention strategies and incorporating them into the code of conduct is in the interests of both employers and employees. 展开更多

Most occupational stressors contributing to clinician burnout are systemic. The combination of organizational interventions along with individual interventions is necessary to make significant lasting difference in reducing burnout, improving clinician and patient satisfaction and reducing latent error in healthcare delivery. Application of Human Factors/Ergonomics (HFE) science in healthcare leadership and management is a gap in current training for leaders. HFE uses concepts from organizational, educational and cognitive science, systems science and industrial engineering. HFE application is especially necessary in a fast changing highly stressful healthcare environment which impacts the wellbeing of clinicians and the safety of patients under care. Practical suggestions for working with various healthcare leadership styles and organizational dynamics, while aligning wellness efforts with institutional mission are discussed. Concrete examples of decreasing extraneous mental load on clinicians to preserve their brainpower to achieve quality patient care are illustrated. Organizational interventions in combination with individual interventions to reduce and manage burnout have enormous potential to improve clinician wellbeing and satisfaction in taking care of patients, reduce costs, risk of error and create the safe working environment needed to sustainably give high quality care to patients. </p> 展开更多

This can lead to workaholism and may result in stress and job burnout. The main objective of the current study is to examine the relationship of workaholism with stress and job burnout of elementary school teachers in Zahedan. This is a descriptive-correlational study. The sample includes 350 elementary school teachers in Zahedan whom are selected through applying stratified random sampling method and are examined using questionnaires on workaholism, occupational stress, and job burnout. To analyze the obtained data, correlation coefficient and simultaneous multiple regression analysis are applied using SPSS21. Teachers’ mean scores on workaholism, stress and job burnout are higher than the considered theoretical mean. Workaholism and its components (feeling of being driven to work, work involvement, and work enjoyment) are significantly and positively related to job burnout and occupational stress (p ). The results of simultaneous multiple regression analysis indicate that components of workaholism can predict teachers’ occupational stress and job burnout (p ). Considering the results, holding training courses for teachers to become familiar with the phenomena of workaholism, stress, and job burnout, individual and organizational outcomes, methods of dealing with them and managing them effectively is highly recommended. 展开更多

Whether workplace-based sports are part of a company’s employee welfare program in terms of mental status is unknown. This study examined the impact of workplace-based sports participation on the mental status of Japanese workers. It involved a single-arm intervention comprising participation in a company’s volleyball team. Data on mental status were collected using a simplified version of the Brief Job Stress Questionnaire. Overall, 11 individuals participated, 9 (81.8%) of whom were women;the mean participant age was 38.2 years. Because the intervention was conducted during busy periods, the median (25th and 75th percentiles) score for qualitative job overload significantly increased from 3.0 (2.0, 4.0) to 3.0 (3.0, 4.3) (p = 0.03). Nonetheless, the fatigue score significantly decreased from 3.0 (3.0, 4.3) to 3.0 (2.0, 4.0) (p = 0.03). These results indicate that participation in workplace-based sports can prevent the deterioration of mental status during busy periods. 展开更多

It may induce sleep, fatigue, and alertness loss at work, and endanger public safety. It’s unclear that cytokines of train driver would be influenced by their job. The research considers the hypothesis that stressful professions, such as train driver, influence the body’s immune system through the long-time and high-pressure working, and change production of neuro-immune factors. Using enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), several neuro-immune factors were assayed among train drivers (N = 82) and health blood donors (N = 80) enrolled in the Yunnan Collaborative Innovation Center for Public Health and Disease Control. The concentrations of angiotensin, C-reactive protein (CRP), interleukin-8 (IL-8), and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) were determined. Kruskal-Wallis test and Dunn’s multiple comparisons test were performed for overall comparison between groups and for pairwise comparison, respectively. Statistical significance level was set at P < 0.05. The profession of train driving was not associated with significant increases or decreases in the systemic levels of inflammatory (CRP, IL-8, and TNF-α), but it was associated with the high expression of angiotensin in vivo. These findings suggest that the job of train driving may not be associated with significant alterations in systemic immune condition, but arouse the level of angiotensin. 展开更多

Rising temperature and heat stress risks in the changing climate scenario might potentially affect workers globally, especially the ones with strenuous workload in tropical settings. We used a cross-sectional study design to profile the heat exposures of-1900 workers from eight industrial sectors using a Ques Temp Wet Bulb Globe Temperature(WBGT)monitor, quantified select heat-strain indicators viz.,rise in Core Body Temperature,Sweat Rate, and Urine Specific Gravity and evaluated the perceived health impacts of heat stress using a structured questionnaire.Heat exposures(average WBGT:30.1±2.6℃)exceeded the Threshold Limit Value for 67%workers and was positively associated with the rise in Core Body Temperature>1℃ in 13%and elevated Urine Specific Gravity>1.020 in 9%workers.Heat-related health concerns were reported by 86%workers,and the heat-exposed workers had 2.3 times higher odds of adverse health outcomes compared to unexposed workers(p<0.0001).Exposure to higher WBGT and adverse renal health among salt-pan workers were significantly associated(p=0.004),and steel workers had 9% prevalence of kidney stones.Evidence presented clearly points to heat stress as a health and productivity risk factor that could have long-term and irreversible health impacts.In-depth assessments are urgently needed to develop scientifically sound preventative interventions and protective labor policies to avert the adverse occupational health and productivity consequences for millions of workers globally, thereby aiding poverty reduction. 展开更多

Miners in Australia frequently perform physically demanding work under high ambient temperatures and humidity, often whilst wearing personal protective equipment, leading to heat-related illnesses. This study investigated effects of replacing 100% and 50% sweat losses with 5% carbohydrate liquid or ice-slurry solution on core temperature during simulated mining conditions. Five randomized treadmill trials were performed with: no fluid replacement (NF), 100% (100 ICE) and 50% (50 ICE) sweat loss replaced with ice-slurry (~-1°C) solution and 100% (100 LIQ) and 50% (50 LIQ) sweat loss replaced with liquid (~+4°C) solution. Time to exhaustion was longer in 100 ICE followed by 100 LIQ, 50 ICE, 50 LIQ and NF. Change in rectal temperature was least in 100 ICE followed by 100 LIQ, 50 ICE, 50 LIQ and NF. Ingestion of ice-slurry resulted in longer time to exhaustion and slower rates of change in rectal temperature. It is recommended that ice-slurry drinks be provided to personnel to lower heat strain during hot working conditions. 展开更多
