Improving the Quality of Public Space in Old Residential Areas Based on Superposition and Intervention:A Case Study of Baihuazhou District of Nanchang City

With the development of cities,China has entered an era of stock planning.The functions of old residential areas in urban development can no longer meet the needs of residents in the new era for a better life,and new standards have been put forward for the quality of public spaces for living.This paper analyzes and sorts out the characteristics and problems of the public space in the old residential areas of Baihuazhou district.Combining superposition and intervention techniques,the spatial,historical,cultural and other characteristic elements of the residential areas are preserved to the greatest extent.The public space in the old residential areas of Baihuazhou District is updated and reconstructed in order to achieve the goal of improving the quality of its public space.

Analysis of Safety Assessment and Testing of Heavy Traffic Vehicles on Old Bridges Without Data

This article presents a real-life project that aimed to evaluate the safety of traffic vehicles on old bridges without any prior data.The project involved various safety inspections,including conventional,static,and dynamic load inspections and safety assessments.After conducting these tests,it was concluded that the structure of the old bridge is relatively safe,with only a few bumps.The bridge could function normally following appropriate treatment.The analysis provides valuable insights into the assessment of the quality and safety of such bridges to ensure the safe driving of heavy vehicles.

Research on the Index System of Old Neighborhood Renovation Based on Green Building Evaluation Standard

With the advancement of the transformation,the contradiction between the residents’demand for a better living environment and the convenience of living in the settlements comes to the fore.Effective identification,organic integration,timely adoption,and correct decision-making for the transformation of old neighborhoods are pressing issues in the transformation of old neighborhoods.Therefore,this paper takes the green building evaluation standards of various countries as the research basis and support for the construction of the transformation strategy of old neighborhoods.Through the collection and comparative analysis of the indicators of green building evaluation standards,the index system of transformation is formed,and it also provides a certain foundation for the subsequent related research.

Decreased contrast sensitivity of visual cortical cells to visual stimuli accompanies a reduction of intracortical inhibition in old cats

Psychophysical experiments on human and animal subjects have proven that aged individuals show significantly reduced visual contrast sensitivity compared with young adults.To uncover the possible neural mechanisms,we used extracellular single-unit recording techniques to examine the response of V1（primary visual cortex） neurons as a function of visual stimulus contrast in both old and young adult cats（Felis catus）.The mean contrast sensitivity of V1 neurons to visual stimuli in old cats decreased significantly relative to young adult cats,consistent with findings reported in old primates.These results indicate that aging can affect contrast sensitivity of visual cortical cells in both primate and non-primate mammalian animals,and might contribute to the reduction of perceptual visual contrast sensitivity in aged individuals.Further,V1 cells of old cats exhibited increased responsiveness,decreased signal-to-noise ratio,and enlarged receptive field（RF） size compared with that of young adult cats,which indicated that decreased contrast sensitivity of V1 neurons accompanied a reduction of intracortical inhibition during senescence.

Cirrhotic patients and older people

The global population is aging,and so the number of older cirrhotic patients is increasing.Older patients are characterised by a risk of frailty and comorbidities,and age is a risk factor for mortality in cirrhotic patients.The incidence of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease as an aetiology of cirrhosis is increasing,while that of chronic viral hepatitis is decreasing.Also,cirrhosis is frequently idiopathic.The management of portal hypertension in older cirrhotic patients is similar to that in younger patients,despite the greater risk of treatment-related adverse events of the former.The prevalence of hepatocellular carcinoma increases with age,but its treatment is unaffected.Liver transplantation is generally recommended for patients<70 years of age.Despite the increasing prevalence of cirrhosis in older people,little data are available and few recommendations have been proposed.This review suggests that comorbidities have a considerable impact on older cirrhotic patients.

Performance of RAP in the System of Cold Inplace Recycling of Asphalt Pavement

The property of reclaimed asphalt pavement（RAP） mixture will be affected mainly by composition of old asphalt/soil and cement content in CIR system. We studied the relationship between A/S and cementitious materials. It showed that if there was no soil in RAP, the unconfined compressive strength was only from 0.18 MPa to 1.07 MPa even if adding cement was from 2% to 6%, and RAP samples collapsed during conserving in water. The optimum water content rose from 6.5% to 11% with the declining of A/S from S=0 to A/S=1/5. Five RAP samples all got the maximum compressive strength when A/S=5/5, and the maximum compressive strength of the samples adding 6% cement was 3.17 MPa. It showed that the capacity of RAP was not only affected by A/S, but also by the content of cement. The dynamic modulus of RAP will increase with the rise of loading frequency and decrease with the temperature rising. SEM test showed that C-S-H interlacing formed the netted structure, and it enwrapped the aggregate and improved the strength of RAP.

Research on Evaluation of Green Land System in Old Residential Areas

Development of residential areas in China had been divided into three stages, and the paper had pointed out that China now highlighted living but neglected environment. The paper had concluded major existing problems of green lands in residential areas, and based on this, it considered that it was necessary to launch an evaluation on green land system in residential areas. It had analyzed identification of evaluation system indexes and weights, and proposed an evaluation system model. Furthermore, by taking "Hayiji" residential area for example, it had illustrated the application of the evaluation system of green lands in old residential areas in detail. Through evaluation on them, the primary problems of each green land system had been identified, and pertinent reconstruction modes had been proposed, so as to provide reference for reconstruction of green land systems of old residential areas in North China.

Effects of urethane on the response properties of visual cortical neurons in young adult and old cats

Previous studies have shown that visual cortical neurons in old mammals exhibit higher spontaneous activity,higher responsiveness to visual stimuli,and lower selectivity for stimulus orientations and motion directions than did neurons in young adult counterparts.However,whether the responsive difference in cortical neurons between young and old animals resulted from different effects induced by anesthetics has remained unclear.To clarify this issue,we recorded the response properties of individual neurons in the primary visual cortex of old and young adult cats while systematically varying the anesthesia level of urethane,a widely used anesthetic in physiology experiments.Our results showed that cumulatively administrating 50 mg and 100 mg of urethane upon the minimal level of urethane required to anesthetize an old or young adult cat did not significantly alter the degree of neuronal response selectivity for stimulus orientations and motion directions nor significantly change the visually-driven response and spontaneous activity of neurons in old and young adult cats.Cumulatively administrating 150 mg of urethane decreased neuronal responsiveness similarly in both age groups.Therefore,urethane appears to exert similar effects on neuronal response properties of old and young adult animals.

Delirium,insulin-like growth factor I,growth hormone in older inpatients

BACKGROUND Delirium is a common disorder in elderly medical inpatients with serious adverse outcomes and is characterized by sudden onset,disturbance in attention,awareness,consciousness and cognition,and often with behavioural disturbances.Central to understanding delirium,is understanding mechanisms by which body and brain wellbeing are linked and in particular how brain responses to bodily homeostatic stress is mediated.A number of studies have investigated the relationship between insulin-like growth factor I(IGF-I)and delirium in medically ill hospitalised patients with conflicting results.However,none have investigated growth hormone(GH)which is related to IGF-I via negative feedback.AIM To investigate the relationship between serum levels of IGF-I and GH,and the occurrence of delirium.METHODS Prospective,longitudinal,observational study.Consecutive elderly inpatients(aged 70+),were assessed twice weekly with Montreal cognitive assessment(MoCA),Confusion assessment method(CAM),Acute Physiology and Chronic Health Evaluation II.Delirium was defined using CAM.Previous history of dementia was evaluated with the Informant Questionnaire on Cognitive Decline in the Elderly.IGF-I and GH levels were estimated with the ELISA method.Generalized estimating equations(GEE)model was applied for the first five assessments to analyze those longitudinal data.RESULTS The sample consisted of 198 participants(mean age 80.63±6.81;range 70-97).Of these 92(46.5%)were females.Eighty six(43.4%)were identified with a history of dementia.Incident or prevalent delirium during hospitalisation was identified with CAM in 40 participants(20.2%).Evaluation of missing values with Little's MCAR test indicated that they were missing completely at random(MCARχ2=12.24,u:9,P=0.20).Using GEE for the analysis we found that low MoCA scores,low levels of IGF-I and high levels of GH were significantly associated with any delirium(prevalence,incident,or fluctuating,during the study period(Waldχ2=12.231;u:1,P<0.001,Waldχ2=7.196,u:1,P=0.007,Waldχ2=6.210;:u:1,P=0.013 respectively).CONCLUSION The results show that low levels of IGF-I,high levels of GH and low scores in cognition are independently associated with the occurrence of any delirium during the hospitalisation of medically ill older people.The results of the study supports the hypothesis that deficits in the immunoreactivity of the brain(low cerebral reserve)may be associated with delirium.

Nephroprevention in the oldest old with chronic kidney disease:Special considerations

Nephroprevention strategies are crucial for handling chronic kidney disease(CKD) complications, and slowing its progression. However, these preventative measures should be guided by major geriatrics principles in order to help nephrologists to adequately handle the oldest old with CKD. These geriatric concepts consist of taking into account the relevance of choosing an individualized therapy, handling clinical frailty, and keeping a geriatric perspective which means that a good quality of life is sometimes a more important therapeutic objective inoctogenarians than merely prolonging life. Even though nephroprevention strategies for treating the oldest old with CKD are basically similar to those applied to younger patients such as low sodium and protein diet, optimized hemoglobin levels, blood pressure and metabolic control, the treating physician or care provider must at all times be ready to make fundamental adjustments and tweak patient care paradigms and objectives if and when the initial therapeutic options applied have caused unintended clinical consequences and complications. Additionally, the sarcopenia status should also be evaluated and treated in very old CKD patients.

Ploidy Analysis of Chinese Old Roses and Their Progenies

[Objective] This study aimed to analyze the ploidy of Chinese old roses and their progenies. [Method] The ploidy level of 38 roses was examined by the flow cytometry. [Result] The four Chinese old roses that influenced breeding of mod- ern roses were diploid. Since the progenies of these Chinese old roses crossed with the tetraploid European old roses were almost tetraploid, it is probable that the pro- genies were arisen by the unreduced gametes of the Chinese old roses. Other Chi- nese old roses analysed were triploid, it was presumed that triploids and diploids were intermingled in China of the 1700s and the plant hunters preferred the more fertile Chinese old roses to be introduced to Europe. Sixteen hybrids of Chinese old rose originated in China consisted of six diploids, five triploids and five tetraploids. [Conclusion] Although these diploid Chinese roses might be the progeny brought by crossing among only Chinese old roses, it was considered that triploids and tetraploids have been arisen by crossing between European old roses and Chinese old rose.
