T...The systematical and scalable frameworks were provided for estimating the blocking probabilities under asynchronous traffic in optical burst switching(OBS) nodes with limited wavelength conversion capability(LWCC) . The relevant system architectures of limited range and limited number of wavelength converters(WCs) deployed by a share-per-fiber(SPF) mode were developed,and the novel theoretical analysis of node blocking probability was derived by combining the calculation of discouraged arrival rate in a birth-death process and two-dimensional Markov chain model of SPF. The simulation results on single node performance verify the accuracy and effectiveness of the analysis models. Under most scenarios,it is difficult to distinguish the plots generated by the analysis and simulation. As the conversion degree increases,the accuracy of the analysis model worsens slightly. However,the utmost error on burst loss probability is far less than one order of magnitude and hence,still allows for an accurate estimate. Some results are of actual significance to the construction of next-generation commercial OBS backbones.展开更多

Heavy burst losses strongly affect the Quality of Service (QoS) intended by end users. This article presents a QoS aware Routing and Wavelength Allocation (RWA) technique for burst switching in OBS networks. The RWA problem is modeled as a bi-objective Integer Linear Programming (ILP) problem, where objective functions are based on minimizing the number of wavelengths used and the number of hops traversed to fulfill the burst transmission requests for a given set of node pairs. The ILP model is solved using a novel approach based on a Differential Evolution (DE) algorithm. Analytical results show that the DE algorithm provides a better performance compared to shortest path routing, which is a widely accepted routing strategy for OBS networks.展开更多

The simulation results show that the token generation methods decrease the burst correlation of Label Switched Paths (LSPs), and solve traffic congestion as well. For executing the scheme, the conception for unit input bit rate is introduced to improve universality, and the assembly algorithm with a buffer safety space under the self-similar traffic model at each ingress edge router is proposed. Then, the components of burst and packet delay are concluded, and the equations that limits of burst length and assembly time should satisfy to stabilize the burst edge delay under different buffer offered loads are educed. The simulation results show that united stabilizing scheme stabilizes both burst and packet edge delay to a great extent when buffer offered load changes from 0.1 to 1, and the edge delay of burst and packet are near the limit values under larger offered load, respectively.展开更多

Many solutions have been presented but it is noted that the existing switching technologies still need more concern. Since optical packet switching is not practical yet, there are just two possible solutions left. One is wavelength routing(WR), which is circuit switching in essence and the other is newly proposed optical burst switching (OBS). In this paper, characteristics of WR and OBS are first described, then, compared in several aspects. It is notice that in many aspects, the wavelength routing and burst switching are complement. This stimulates us to propose a new switching architecture, which may be considered as 'mixture' of WR and OBS. We believe the network built on new switching structure can accommodate the requirements of practicability, flexibility, robustness, efficiency and etc. simultaneously. The network architecture, functional model of edge nodes and core nodes, the control packet format, a novel burst assembly scheme at ingress nodes and scheduling algorithm of core nodes are presented. The basic idea is to apply DiffServ capable burst assembly at ingress nodes and perform different per hop behavior (PHB) electronic treatments for control packets of different QoS class services at core nodes. Simulation results show that the proposed schemes can provide the best differentiated service for expedited forwarding (EF), assured forwarding (AF) and best effort (BE) services in terms of end-to-end delay, throughput and IP packet loss probability. Based on token-bucket model and burst segment selective discard (BSSD), the offset-time scheme can smooth the traffic to support OBS QoS. To verify its feasibility and evaluate its performance, just-enough-time (JET) signaling has been considered as a high performance protocol. In the proposed architecture, to avoid burst losses, firstly, a short-prior- confirmation-packet (SPCP) is sent over the control channel that simulates the events that the actual packet will experience. Once SPCP detects a drop at any of the intermediate nodes, the actual packet is not sent but the process repeats. In order to increase network utilization, cost effectiveness and to overcome some limitations of conventional OBS, inherent codes (e.g., orthogonal optical codes (OOC)), which are codified only in intensity, has been used. Through simulations, it shows that a decrease in burst loss probability, cost effectiveness and a gain in processing time are obtained when optical label processing is used as compared with electronic processing.展开更多

The network architecture, functional model of edge nodes and core nodes, the control packet format, a novel burst assembly scheme at ingress nodes and scheduling algorithm of core nodes are presented. The basic idea is to apply DiffServ capable burst assembly at ingress nodes and perform different per hop behavior (PHB) electronic treatments for control packets of different QoS class services at core nodes. Simulation results show that the proposed schemes can provide the best differentiated service for expedited forwarding (EF), assured forwarding (AF) and best effort (BE) services in terms of end-to-end delay, throughput and IP packet loss probability. 文摘This letter proposes a new burst assembly technique for supporting QoS in optical burst switching (OBS) networks. It consists of the adaptive-threshold burst assembly mechanism and QoS-based random offset-time scheme. The assembly mechanism, which is fit well to multi-class burst assembly, not only matches with IP QoS mechanism based on packet classification, and also utilizes fairly and efficiently assembly capacity. Based on token-bucket model and burst segment selective discard (BSSD), the offset-time scheme can smooth the traffic to support OBS QoS. The simulation results show that the technique can improve the performance in terms of packet loss probability (PLP).
文摘A novel optical burst switching (OBS) high speed network architecture has been proposed. To verify its feasibility and evaluate its performance, just-enough-time (JET) signaling has been considered as a high performance protocol. In the proposed architecture, to avoid burst losses, firstly, a short-prior- confirmation-packet (SPCP) is sent over the control channel that simulates the events that the actual packet will experience. Once SPCP detects a drop at any of the intermediate nodes, the actual packet is not sent but the process repeats. In order to increase network utilization, cost effectiveness and to overcome some limitations of conventional OBS, inherent codes (e.g., orthogonal optical codes (OOC)), which are codified only in intensity, has been used. Through simulations, it shows that a decrease in burst loss probability, cost effectiveness and a gain in processing time are obtained when optical label processing is used as compared with electronic processing.

A congestion Mleviated scheme using advanced token protocol and wavelength tunable receivers is demon- strated to optimize the network platform. Experimental results testify that this scheme can resist collision at the level of 0.1% congestion rate.

文摘This paper proposes a novel scheme based on minimum delay at the edges (MDE) for optical burst switching (OBS) networks. This scheme is designed to overcome the long delay at the edge nodes of OBS networks. The MDE scheme features simultaneous burst assembly, channel scheduling, and pre-transmission of control packet. It also features estimated setup and explicit release (ESXR) signaling protocol. The MDE scheme can minimize the delay at the edge nodes for data packets, and improve the end-to-end latency performance for OBS networks. In addition, comparing with the conventional scheme, the performances of the MDE scheme are analyzed in this paper.

文摘To achieve lower assembly delay at optical burst switching edge node, this paper proposes an approach called current weight length prediction (CWLP) to improve existing estimate mechanism in burst assembly. CWLP method takes into account the arrived traffic in prediction time adequately. A parameter 'weight' is introduced to make a dynamic tradeoff between the current and past traffic under different offset time. Simulation results show that CWLP can achieve a significant improvement in terms of traffic estimation in various offset time and offered load.
