The bandgap and wave functions are calculated using the self-consistent k·p Hamiltonian, taking into account valence band mixing and the strain effect. Our calculations show that the M-shaped type-Ⅱ QWs are a promising structure for making 1.3 um lasers at room temperature because they can easily be used to obtain 1.3 um for photoluminescence with a proper thickness and have large wave-function overlap for high optical gain.展开更多

AFM images show that the change of the ...The effects of indium composition in InGaAs interlayer and on optical properties of GaSb/InGaAs QD material on morphology of GaSb/InGaAs quantum dots (QDs) system are studied. AFM images show that the change of the indium composition in InGaAs interlayer can alter the GaSb QD morphology. It is found that low indium composition in InGaAs interlayer can promote the formation of QDs, while high indium composition can inhibit the formation of QDs. The photoluminescence (PL) spectra of GaSb/InGaAs QDs at 8 K under low excitation power indicate that the third root of the excitation power is linear with the peak position, which provides a direct evidence for their luminescence belonging to type-Ⅱ material optical transition. The PL spectra at 8 K under an excitation power of 90row show that the optical properties of GaSb/InGaAs QD material system can be affected by the indium composition in the InGaAs interlayer, and the PL peak position is linear with the indium composition. The optical properties of GaSb/InGaAs QDs can be improved by adjusting the indium composition in the InGaAs interlayer.展开更多

Therefore, a new type of optical fiber sensor was developed in the laboratory - optical fiber grating sensor for force measurement of anchor cable (OFBFMAC). No similar report about this kind of sensor has been found up to now in China and other countries. This sensor is proved to be an effective way of monitoring in processes of anchor cable installation, cable cutting, cable force regulation, etc, with the accurate and repeatable measuring results. Its successful application in the tie bar cable force safety monitoring for Wuhan Qingchuan bridge is a new exploration of optical fiber grating sensing technology in bridge tie bar monitoring system.展开更多
Objectives: To present the effect of intravitreal ranibizumab (IVR) therapy combined with sulfotanshinone sodium (SS) injection in a patient suffering from type II optic disc vasculitis (ODV). Methods: A 26-year-old f...Objectives: To present the effect of intravitreal ranibizumab (IVR) therapy combined with sulfotanshinone sodium (SS) injection in a patient suffering from type II optic disc vasculitis (ODV). Methods: A 26-year-old female patient was diagnosed with type II ODV with macular edema (ME). The information was obtained by complete medical and ophthalmic history taking and a detailed ophthalmic examination at the initial and follow-up visits. Functional and morphological outcomes at baseline, 1 week and 1 month following IVR+SS injections, are presented. Results: Best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) improved from 78 letters (ETDRS) at baseline to 90 letters at 1-week follow-up and maintained stable through 1-month follow-up. Central retinal thickness (CRT) measured by optical coherence tomography (OCT) decreased from 465 μm at baseline to 240 μm at 1-week follow-up and to 226 μm at 1-month follow-up. Mean deviation (MD) measured by perimetry increased from ?5.17 dB to ?4.59 dB and to ?4.29 dB, respectively. Fluorescein angiography (FFA) showed that the initial macular edema at baseline disappeared while the arm-retina circulation time (ART) was also greatly shortened when compared to the baseline. Electroretinogram (ERG) measured at 1-month follow-up demonstrated an overall improvement of the retinal function after the injection. No ocular or systemic side effects were detected. Conclusions: IVR+SS injection may lead to resolution of the associated ME and improve the retina morphologically as well as functionally. To our knowledge, this is the first case of a type II ODV benefiting from treatment with IVR+SS injection. The observed results warrant further investigation.展开更多

Prohibitin gene is located at q21 of chromosome 17 in human beings and the protein is found at mitochondria, nucleus and cytoplasm. Due to its size and ring-shaped structure, prohibitin protein defines functional subcompartments in mitochondria. Its subunits, PHB1 and PHB2, suppress cell proliferation as in the protein itself Nevertheless, recent investigation suggests that prohibitin protein enhances cell proliferation as well. It has also been found to suppress cell apoptosis by reducing cytochrome C release via the avoidance of mitochondrial crista remodeling which is facilitated through type 1 optic atrophy protein (OPAl). Acting as a binding site for ubiquitin, prohibitin protein regulates protein degradation by proteasome. Examples are the degradations of sperm mitochondria in a fertilized ovum or those of an abnormal sperm.展开更多
