Distributed Stochastic Optimization with Compression for Non-Strongly Convex Objectives

We are investigating the distributed optimization problem,where a network of nodes works together to minimize a global objective that is a finite sum of their stored local functions.Since nodes exchange optimization parameters through the wireless network,large-scale training models can create communication bottlenecks,resulting in slower training times.To address this issue,CHOCO-SGD was proposed,which allows compressing information with arbitrary precision without reducing the convergence rate for strongly convex objective functions.Nevertheless,most convex functions are not strongly convex(such as logistic regression or Lasso),which raises the question of whether this algorithm can be applied to non-strongly convex functions.In this paper,we provide the first theoretical analysis of the convergence rate of CHOCO-SGD on non-strongly convex objectives.We derive a sufficient condition,which limits the fidelity of compression,to guarantee convergence.Moreover,our analysis demonstrates that within the fidelity threshold,this algorithm can significantly reduce transmission burden while maintaining the same convergence rate order as its no-compression equivalent.Numerical experiments further validate the theoretical findings by demonstrating that CHOCO-SGD improves communication efficiency and keeps the same convergence rate order simultaneously.And experiments also show that the algorithm fails to converge with low compression fidelity and in time-varying topologies.Overall,our study offers valuable insights into the potential applicability of CHOCO-SGD for non-strongly convex objectives.Additionally,we provide practical guidelines for researchers seeking to utilize this algorithm in real-world scenarios. 展开更多

Background Co-salient object detection(Co-SOD)aims to identify and segment commonly salient objects in a set of related images.However,most current Co-SOD methods encounter issues with the inclusion of irrelevant information in the co-representation.These issues hamper their ability to locate co-salient objects and significantly restrict the accuracy of detection.Methods To address this issue,this study introduces a novel Co-SOD method with iterative purification and predictive optimization(IPPO)comprising a common salient purification module(CSPM),predictive optimizing module(POM),and diminishing mixed enhancement block(DMEB).Results These components are designed to explore noise-free joint representations,assist the model in enhancing the quality of the final prediction results,and significantly improve the performance of the Co-SOD algorithm.Furthermore,through a comprehensive evaluation of IPPO and state-of-the-art algorithms focusing on the roles of CSPM,POM,and DMEB,our experiments confirmed that these components are pivotal in enhancing the performance of the model,substantiating the significant advancements of our method over existing benchmarks.Experiments on several challenging benchmark co-saliency datasets demonstrate that the proposed IPPO achieves state-of-the-art performance. 展开更多

Agriculture plays a vital role in the food production process that occupies nearly one-third of the total surface of the earth.Rice is propagated from the seeds of paddy and it is a stable food almost used byfifty percent of the total world population.The extensive growth of the human population alarms us to ensure food security and the country should take proper food steps to improve the yield of food grains.This paper concentrates on improving the yield of paddy by predicting the factors that influence the growth of paddy with the help of Evolutionary Computation Techniques.Most of the researchers used to relay on historical records of meteorological parameters to predict the yield of paddy.There is a lack in analyzing the day to day impact of meteorological parameters such as direction of wind,relative humidity,Instant Wind Speed in paddy cultivation.The real time meteorological data collected and analysis the impact of weather parameters from the day of paddy sowing to till the last day of paddy harvesting with regular time series.A Robust Optimized Artificial Neural Network(ROANN)Algorithm with Genetic Algorithm(GA)and Multi Objective Particle Swarm Optimization Algorithm(MOPSO)proposed to predict the factors that to be concentrated by farmers to improve the paddy yield in cultivation.A real time paddy data collected from farmers of Tamilnadu and the meteorological parameters were matched with the cropping pattern of the farmers to construct the database.The input parameters were optimized either by using GA or MOPSO optimization algorithms to reconstruct the database.Reconstructed database optimized by using Artificial Neural Network Back Propagation Algorithm.The reason for improving the growth of paddy was identified using the output of the Neural Network.Performance metrics such as Accuracy,Error Rate etc were used to measure the performance of the proposed algorithm.Comparative analysis made between ANN with GA and ANN with MOPSO to identify the recommendations for improving the paddy yield. 展开更多

The advantage of analytical solution is the possibility of deriving accurate, exact and well-understood solutions, which is especially useful for policy analysis. An extension of the method to include multiple objectives is provided with the objectives being classified into two types. The model is solved using an enhanced Elitist Non-dominated Sorting Genetic Algorithm (NSGA-II), and differential evolution is incorporated to the evolution operator. The algorithm produced by the revised algorithm produces a better Pareto optimum solution set, efficiently balances the relationship between customer pleasure and cost, and serves as a reference for the long-term growth of organizations. . 展开更多

Biogeography-based optimization (BBO) is a new evolutionary optimization method inspired by biogeography. In this paper, BBO is extended to a multi-objective optimization, and a biogeography-based multi-objective optimization (BBMO) is introduced, which uses the cluster attribute of islands to naturally decompose the problem. The proposed algorithm makes use of nondominated sorting approach to improve the convergence ability efficiently. It also combines the crowding distance to guarantee the diversity of Pareto optimal solutions. We compare the BBMO with two representative state-of-the-art evolutionary multi-objective optimization methods, non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm-II (NSGA-II) and archive-based micro genetic algorithm (AMGA) in terms of three metrics. Simulation results indicate that in most cases, the proposed BBMO is able to find much better spread of solutions and converge faster to true Pareto optimal fronts than NSGA-II and AMGA do. 展开更多

Based on the analysis of the relationship between agricultural water resources and sustainable development, this paper presents a multi objective fuzzy optimization model for cropping structure and water allocation, which overcomes the shortcoming of current models that only considered the economic objective,and ignored the social and environmental objectives. During the process, a new method named fuzzy deciding weight is developed to decide the objective weight. A case study shows that the model is reliable, the method is simple and objective, and the results are reasonable. This model is useful for agricultural management and sustainable development. 展开更多

To effectively address this issue in robust design, this paper presents a novel robust optimization approach which integrates multi-objective optimization concepts with Taguchi’s crossed arrays techniques. In this approach, Pareto-optimal robust design solution sets are obtained with the aid of design of experiment set-ups, which utilize the results of Analysis of Variance to quantify relative dominance and significance of design variables. Design change is an inevitable part of the product development process.This study proposes an improved binary multi‐objective PSO algorithm guided by problem char-acteristics(P‐BMOPSO)to solve the optimisation problem of complex product change plan considering service performance.Firstly,a complex product multi‐layer network with service performance is established for the first time to reveal the impact of change effect propagation on the product service performance.Secondly,the concept of service performance impact(SPI)is defined by decoupling the impact of strongly associated nodes on the service performance in the process of change affect propagation.Then,a triple‐objective selection model of change nodes is established,which includes the three indicators:SPI degree,change cost,and change time.Furthermore,an integer multi‐objective particle swarm optimisation algorithm guided by problem characteristics is developed to solve the model above.Experimental results on the design change problem of a certain type of Skyworth TV verify the effectiveness of the established optimisation model and the proposed P‐BMOPSO algorithm. 展开更多

In this paper, a multi objective, multireservoir operation model is proposed using Genetic algorithm (GA) under fuzzy environment. A monthly Multi Objective Genetic Algorithm Fuzzy Optimization (MOGAFU-OPT) model for the present study is developed in ‘C’ Language. The GA parameters i.e. population size, number of generations, crossover probability, and mutation probability are decided based on optimized val-ues of fitness function. The GA operators adopted are stochastic remainder selection, one point crossover and binary mutation. Initially the model is run for maximization of irrigation releases. Then the model is run for maximization of hydropower production. These objectives are fuzzified by assuming a linear membership function. These fuzzified objectives are simultaneously maximized by defining level of satisfaction (?) and then maximizing it. This approach is applied to a multireservoir system in Godavari river sub basin in Ma-harashtra State, India. Problem is formulated with 4 reservoirs and a barrage. The optimal operation policy for maximization of irrigation releases, maximization of hydropower production and maximization of level of satisfaction is presented for existing demand in command area. This optimal operation policy so deter-mined is compared with the actual average operation policy for Jayakwadi Stage-I reservoir. 展开更多

The reason for requiring soft constraints adjustment and objective relaxation simultaneously is that the result is not satisfactory when the feasible region is apart from the desired working point or the optimization problem is infeasible. The mixed logic method is introduced to describe the priority of the constraints and objectives, thereby the soft constraints adjustment and objectives coordination are solved together in RTO. The decomposition based approach decomposes a multi-objective problem into a series of single objective subproblems, which are optimized along contours towards the ideal point. But non-dominated solutions cannot spread uniformly, since the Pareto front shows different features, such as concave and convex. To improve the distribution uniformity of non-dominated solutions, a bidirectional decomposition based approach that constructs two search directions is proposed to provide a uniform distribution no matter what features problems have. Since two populations along two search directions show differently on diversity and convergence, an adaptive neighborhood selection approach is presented to choose suitable parents for the offspring generation. In order to avoid the problem of the shrinking search region caused by the close distance of the ideal and nadir points, a reference point update approach is presented. The performance of the proposed algorithm is validated with four state-of-the-art algorithms. Experimental results demonstrate the superiority of the proposed algorithm on all considered test problems. 展开更多

This paper concerns the problem of object segmentation in real-time for picking system. A region proposal method inspired by human glance based on the convolutional neural network is proposed to select promising regions, allowing more processing is reserved only for these regions. The speed of object segmentation is significantly improved by the region proposal method.By the combination of the region proposal method based on the convolutional neural network and superpixel method, the category and location information can be used to segment objects and image redundancy is significantly reduced. The processing time is reduced considerably by this to achieve the real time. Experiments show that the proposed method can segment the interested target object in real time on an ordinary laptop. 展开更多

Cutting parameters have a significant impact on the machining effect.In order to reduce the machining time and improve the machining quality,this paper proposes an optimization algorithm based on Bp neural networkImproved Multi-Objective Particle Swarm(Bp-DWMOPSO).Firstly,this paper analyzes the existing problems in the traditional multi-objective particle swarm algorithm.Secondly,the Bp neural network model and the dynamic weight multi-objective particle swarm algorithm model are established.Finally,the Bp-DWMOPSO algorithm is designed based on the established models.In order to verify the effectiveness of the algorithm,this paper obtains the required data through equal probability orthogonal experiments on a typical Computer Numerical Control(CNC)turning machining case and uses the Bp-DWMOPSO algorithm for optimization.The experimental results show that the Cutting speed is 69.4 mm/min,the Feed speed is 0.05 mm/r,and the Depth of cut is 0.5 mm.The results show that the Bp-DWMOPSO algorithm can find the cutting parameters with a higher material removal rate and lower spindle load while ensuring the machining quality.This method provides a new idea for the optimization of turning machining parameters. 展开更多

Well production optimization is a complex and time-consuming task in the oilfield development.The combination of reservoir numerical simulator with optimization algorithms is usually used to optimize well production.This method spends most of computing time in objective function evaluation by reservoir numerical simulator which limits its optimization efficiency.To improve optimization efficiency,a well production optimization method using streamline features-based objective function and Bayesian adaptive direct search optimization(BADS)algorithm is established.This new objective function,which represents the water flooding potential,is extracted from streamline features.It only needs to call the streamline simulator to run one time step,instead of calling the simulator to calculate the target value at the end of development,which greatly reduces the running time of the simulator.Then the well production optimization model is established and solved by the BADS algorithm.The feasibility of the new objective function and the efficiency of this optimization method are verified by three examples.Results demonstrate that the new objective function is positively correlated with the cumulative oil production.And the BADS algorithm is superior to other common algorithms in convergence speed,solution stability and optimization accuracy.Besides,this method can significantly accelerate the speed of well production optimization process compared with the objective function calculated by other conventional methods.It can provide a more effective basis for determining the optimal well production for actual oilfield development. 展开更多

Visual impairment is one of the major problems among people of all age groups across the globe.Visually Impaired Persons(VIPs)require help from others to carry out their day-to-day tasks.Since they experience several problems in their daily lives,technical intervention can help them resolve the challenges.In this background,an automatic object detection tool is the need of the hour to empower VIPs with safe navigation.The recent advances in the Internet of Things(IoT)and Deep Learning(DL)techniques make it possible.The current study proposes IoT-assisted Transient Search Optimization with a Lightweight RetinaNetbased object detection(TSOLWR-ODVIP)model to help VIPs.The primary aim of the presented TSOLWR-ODVIP technique is to identify different objects surrounding VIPs and to convey the information via audio message to them.For data acquisition,IoT devices are used in this study.Then,the Lightweight RetinaNet(LWR)model is applied to detect objects accurately.Next,the TSO algorithm is employed for fine-tuning the hyperparameters involved in the LWR model.Finally,the Long Short-Term Memory(LSTM)model is exploited for classifying objects.The performance of the proposed TSOLWR-ODVIP technique was evaluated using a set of objects,and the results were examined under distinct aspects.The comparison study outcomes confirmed that the TSOLWR-ODVIP model could effectually detect and classify the objects,enhancing the quality of life of VIPs. 展开更多

The requirement for high-quality seafood is a global challenge in today’s world due to climate change and natural resource limitations.Internet of Things(IoT)based Modern fish farming systems can significantly optimize seafood production by minimizing resource utilization and improving healthy fish production.This objective requires intensive monitoring,prediction,and control by optimizing leading factors that impact fish growth,including temperature,the potential of hydrogen(pH),water level,and feeding rate.This paper proposes the IoT based predictive optimization approach for efficient control and energy utilization in smart fish farming.The proposed fish farm control mechanism has a predictive optimization to deal with water quality control and efficient energy consumption problems.Fish farm indoor and outdoor values are applied to predict the water quality parameters,whereas a novel objective function is proposed to achieve an optimal fish growth environment based on predicted parameters.Fuzzy logic control is utilized to calculate control parameters for IoT actuators based on predictive optimal water quality parameters by minimizing energy consumption.To evaluate the efficiency of the proposed system,the overall approach has been deployed to the fish tank as a case study,and a number of experiments have been carried out.The results show that the predictive optimization module allowed the water quality parameters to be maintained at the optimal level with nearly 30%of energy efficiency at the maximum actuator control rate compared with other control levels. 展开更多

Awareness of the same amongst the citizens can be one of the best ways to initiate a decline in the positive census of the disease. We use this paper to illustrate an optimization model where the budget can be distributed based on the census data of the risk factors involved. It uses a non-linear programming model and can easily be modified into a linear one. The alternative options and constraints too, are mentioned in the paper. The results show that the mid-western states need more share of the allocation based on risk factors. The model distributes the percentage of the budget allocated to different states based on a fixed risk factor constraint. 展开更多
