The penetration of new energy sources such as wind power is increasing,which consequently increases the occurrence rate of subsynchronous oscillation events.However,existing subsynchronous oscillation source-identification methods primarily analyze fixed-mode oscillations and rarely consider time-varying features,such as frequency drift,caused by the random volatility of wind farms when oscillations occur.This paper proposes a subsynchronous oscillation sourcelocalization method that involves an enhanced short-time Fourier transform and a convolutional neural network(CNN).First,an enhanced STFT is performed to secure high-resolution time-frequency distribution(TFD)images from the measured data of the generation unit ports.Next,these TFD images are amalgamated to form a subsynchronous oscillation feature map that serves as input to the CNN to train the localization model.Ultimately,the trained CNN model realizes the online localization of subsynchronous oscillation sources.The effectiveness and accuracy of the proposed method are validated via multimachine system models simulating forced and natural oscillation events using the Power Systems Computer Aided Design platform.Test results show that the proposed method can localize subsynchronous oscillation sources online while considering unpredictable fluctuations in wind farms,thus providing a foundation for oscillation suppression in practical engineering scenarios. 展开更多

Direct current(DC)bus voltage stability is essential for the stable and reliable operation of a DC system.If an oscillation source can be quickly and accurately localized,the oscillation can be adequately eliminated.We propose a method based on the power spectral density for identifying the voltage oscillation source.Specifically,a DC distribution network model combined with the component connection method is developed,and the network is separated into multiple power modules.Compared with a conventional method,the proposed method does not require determining the model parameters of the entire power grid,which is typically challenging.Furthermore,combined with a novel judgment index,the oscillation source can be identified more intuitively and clearly to enhance the applicability to real power grids.The performance of the proposed method has been evaluated using the MATLAB/Simulink software and PLECS RT Box experimental platform.The simulation and experimental results verify that the proposed method can accurately identify oscillation sources in a DC distribution network. 展开更多

The deployment of a synchrophasor-based widearea measurement system(WAMS) in a power grid largely improves the observability of power system dynamics and the operator’s real-time situational awareness for potential stability issues. The WAMS in many power grids has successfully captured system oscillation events, e.g. poorly damped natural oscillations and forced oscillations, from time to time. To identify the root cause of an observed oscillation event for further mitigation actions, many methods have been proposed to locate the source of oscillation based on different ideas and principles. However, most methods proposed so far for locating the oscillation source in a power grid are not reliable enough for practical applications. This paper presents a comprehensive review of existing location methods, which basically fall into four major categories, plus a few other methods. Their advantages and disadvantages are discussed in detail. Some trends and challenges on the problem of oscillation source location are pointed out along with potential future research directions. Finally, a practical, general scheme for oscillation source location using available location methods is suggested and analyzed. 展开更多

The major problem in current online diagnosis and analysis for power system oscillation is mainly concerned with finding the oscillation source in a fast and correct way using the data collected by the Wide Area Measurement System(WAMS).This paper for the first time proposes a scheme of cut set energy based on WAMS.Independent of accurate parameters,the scheme can make full use of WAMS data based on cut set energy construction and fast calculation to locate the source during oscillation.Afterwards,a scheme of torque decomposition is proposed,based on which the controller’s torque can be divided into damping torque and synchronous torque by calculation through WAMS data,and this paper puts forward the abnormal response and simulation models calibration of influential controllers.Analysis of an oscillation case shows how the cut set energy scheme and the torque decomposition scheme are applied in a real-world power system,and the schemes are proven to be reliable and practical in identifying and locating oscillation sources. 展开更多

This paper presents a measurement-based solution for low frequency oscillation(LFO) analysis in both real time monitoring and off-line case study. An online LFO property discrimination method is developed first,which alternately uses empirical mode decomposition(EMD)/Hilbert transform(HT) and square calculation to process the measurement data. The method magnifies the variation trend of oscillating variables to accurately discriminate the property of the oscillation. Subsequently, an oscillation source locating method for the forced oscillation(FO) and a strongly correlated generator identification method for the weak damping oscillation(WDO) are proposed. Finally, numerical study results on a test system of the isolated Changdu grid in Tibet validate the proposed methods. 展开更多
