The oxidation test was performed at 1050℃ for 5, 50, 100,150, 200, and 400 h. The microstructure and phase composition of powders and coatings were characterized by scanning electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction, respectively. The bonding strength of the coatings was also evaluated. The results proved that with the increase in the percentage of nanoparticles(from 2wt% to 6wt%), the amount of porosity(from 1vol% to 4.7vol%), unmelted particles, and roughness of the coatings(from 4.8 to 8.8 μm) increased, and the bonding strength decreased from 71 to 48 MPa. The thicknesses of the thermally grown oxide layer of pure and composite coatings(2wt%, 4wt%, and 6wt%) after 400 h oxidation were measured as 6.5, 5.5, 7.6, and 8.1 μm, respectively. The CoNiCrAlY–2wt% Al_(2)O_(3)coating showed the highest oxidation resistance due to the diffusion barrier effect of well-dispersed nanoparticles. The CoNiCrAlY–6wt% Al_(2)O_(3)coating had the lowest oxidation resistance due to its rough surface morphology and porous microstructure.展开更多

The effect of SiC whiskers on the oxidation resistance properties of the single-layer coating and double-layer coating was investigated. SiC whiskers in the single-layer SiC coating have little effect on the anti-oxidation property but obviously improve the thermal shock property. The double-layer coating with inner-layer reinforced coating exhibits more perfect anti-oxidation ability than the double-layer coating with SiC inner-layer coating.展开更多

XRD and SEM analysis showed that only tetragonal MoSi2 phase existed in the coating after being siliconized for 5 h at 900℃. The oxidation film formed on the uncoated sample was not dense, so that oxygen diffused easily through it. The volatilization of MoO3 resulted in the oxidation film separating from the substrate. The MoSi2 coating was proved to be an effective method to prevent 30 at.% Mo5Si3/MoSi2 composites from being oxidized at 1200℃. A dense glassy SiO2 film was formed on the MoSi2 coating surface, which acted as a barrier layer for the diffusion of oxygen atoms to the substrate. The 30at.% MosSi3/MoSi2 composites with a MoSi2 coating showed much better oxidation resistance at high temperature.展开更多

The surface morphology and phase constituent of the ceramic layer were analyzed using scanning electron microscope and X-ray diffraction. The polarization curves of the composites before and after MAO treatment were measured and analyzed. The results showed that after Al2O3f/ZL109 composites were treated using MAO technique in silicate solution, the ceramic layer formed, and it was composed of Al, Si, and mullite phase. Al and Si came from Al alloy matrix of the composites, and the mullite phase formed in process of MAO. Al2O3 fiber in the composites affects the electric conductivity of the composites, the MAO reaction is promoted, and the cera- mic layer forming on the composite material side is slightly thicker than that on the Al alloy side. After Al2O3f/ZL109 composites were treated using MAO technique, the corro- sion resistance of the composites is significantly improved.展开更多

Oxidation behavior of the multiphase coated C/C composites was also investigated. It showed that the as-prepared coating characterized by excellent oxidation resistance and thermal shock re- sistance could effectively protect C/C composites from oxidation at 1773 K for 57 h in air and endure the thermal cycle between 1773 K and room temperature for 12 times, whereas the corresponding weight loss is only 1.47%. The excellent oxidation protective ability of the SiC-Si-ZrSiO4 coating could be attributed to the C/SiC gradient inner layer and the multiphase microstructure of the coating.展开更多

Additionally, the friction and wear behaviors as well as the wear mechanism of the Cu-based composites were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) in conjunction with energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) elemental mapping. The results indicated that the Cu-based friction composite containing 30wt% ODS Cu exhibited the highest hardness and shear strength. The average and instantaneous friction coefficient curves of this sample, when operated in a high-speed train at a speed of 300 km/h, were similar to those of a commercial disc brake pad produced by Knorr-Bremse AG (Germany). Additionally, the lowest linear wear loss of the obtained samples was (0.008 ± 0.001) mm per time per face, which is much lower than that of the Knorr-Bremse pad ((0.01 ± 0.001) mm). The excellent performance of the developed pad is a consequence of the formation of a dense oxide composite layer and its close combination with the pad body.展开更多

A MoSi 2/SiC coating was produced by infiltration process. The oxidation behavior of the coated C/C composites was studied at various temperatures below 1650℃. The oxidation results showed that the MoSi 2/SiC coating for thermal protection of C/C composites has high oxidation resistance at temperature up to 1650℃. In the present work, a new model of an oxidation protective, self sealing multi layer coating system was proposed for C/C composites. The multi layer coating possessing the self sealing property was obtained by pack cementation and infiltration process. The protection coating system for C/C composites consists of an inner layer of SiC and an outer layer of porous refractory oxides filled by modified SiO 2 glass. Isothermal and cyclic thermal oxidation tests showed the multi layer coating was capable of protecting the C/C composites in an oxidizing atmosphere at temperature up to 1800℃.展开更多

The oxidation behavior of the composites at 900℃ in static air was investigated. The results indicate that the composite samples present a much lower oxidation mass gain. Under long-time intensive oxidation exposure, the formed oxide scale is multi-layer. The formation of the outer TiO2 layer is fine and dense, the internal Al2O3 scale has good adhesiveness with the outer TiO2 scale, and the TiO2+Al2O3 mixed layer forming the protective oxide scale is favorable for the improvement of oxidation resistance. It is believed that the incorporation of Al2O3 particulates into the metal matrix decreases the coefficient of thermal expansion of the substrate, and forms a local three-dimensional network structure that can hold the oxide scale. The formation of the oxide scale with finer particle size, stronger adherence, less micro-defects and slower growth rate can contribute to the improvement of oxidation resistance. Nb element plays an important role in reducing the internal oxidation action of the materials, restraining the growth of TiO2 crystals and promoting the stable formation of the Al2O3-riched layer, which is beneficial to improve the oxidation properties.展开更多

The fabricated composites have been characterized using XRD analysis, and optical microscopy. These composites are distinguished with completeness of their combustion, since the combustion products comprise gaseous boron fluorine-containing compounds of boron, boron trifluoride (BF3), and boron oxyfluoride ((BOF)3). Besides, these composites are characterized with increased energy capacity as compared to purely oxygen-containing compounds, since the heat of formation of boron fluorine-containing compounds is higher than that of boron oxide. Introduction of ultradispersed polytetrafluoroethylene imparts composites with hydrophobicity, thus improving their functioning properties.展开更多

The CoNiCrAlY–6wt% Al_(2)O_(3)coating had the lowest oxidation resistance due to its rough surface morphology and porous microstructure.

文摘The effects of SiC particles(SiCp)on high temperature oxidation behavior of titanium matrix composites(TMCs)under different powder metallurgy processes were investigated. In situ Ti C+Ti_(5)Si_(3)reinforced titanium matrix composites were prepared by discharge plasma sintering(SPS)and argon protective sintering(APS).The results show that the two processes have a negligible effect on the composition and hardness of the samples, but the hardness of the two samples is significantly improved by adding SiCp.The apparent porosity of SPS process is obviously smaller than that of APS process, whereas, the apparent porosity increases slightly with the addition of SiCp.The oxide layer thickness and mass gain of the samples obtained by SPS process are smaller than those obtained by APS process. The oxide thickness and mass gain of both processes are further reduced by adding SiCp.The SPS composites showed the best high temperature oxidation resistance. Therefore,TMCs with Si Cp by SPS can effectively improve the high-temperature oxidation behavior of the materials.

文摘In order to effectively employ the unique high temperature mechanical properties of carbon/carbon composite substrates, SiC coatings reinforced by SiC whiskers were prepared by pack cementation method. The effect of SiC whiskers on the oxidation resistance properties of the single-layer coating and double-layer coating was investigated. SiC whiskers in the single-layer SiC coating have little effect on the anti-oxidation property but obviously improve the thermal shock property. The double-layer coating with inner-layer reinforced coating exhibits more perfect anti-oxidation ability than the double-layer coating with SiC inner-layer coating.
文摘In order to improve the oxidation resistance properties of 30 at.% Mo5Si3/MoSi2 composite at high temperature in air, a molybdenum disilicide coating was prepared on its surface by a molten salt technology. The 30at.% MosSi3/MoSi2 composites with a MoSi2 coating showed much better oxidation resistance at high temperature.

文摘A ceramic layer was prepared on the surface of Al2O3f/ZL109 composites by means of micro-arc oxidation (MAO) technique. After Al2O3f/ZL109 composites were treated using MAO technique, the corro- sion resistance of the composites is significantly improved.

文摘In order to improve the anti-oxidation property of carbon/carbon (C/C) composites, a novel SiC-Si-ZrSiO4 multiphase oxidation protective coating was produced on the surface of C/SiC coated carbon/carbon compo ites by a pack cementation technique. The phase composition and microstructure of the as-prepared coatings were characterized by XRD (X-ray diffraction), SEM (scanning electron microscopy) and EDS (energy dispersive spectroscopy). The excellent oxidation protective ability of the SiC-Si-ZrSiO4 coating could be attributed to the C/SiC gradient inner layer and the multiphase microstructure of the coating.

文摘The mechanical and tribological properties of Cu-based powder metallurgy (P/M) friction composites containing 10wt%-50wt% oxide-dispersion-strengthened (ODS) Cu reinforced with nano-Al2O3 were investigated. The excellent performance of the developed pad is a consequence of the formation of a dense oxide composite layer and its close combination with the pad body.
文摘A W-Mo-Si/SiC double-layer oxidation protective coating for carbon/carbon (C/C) composites was prepared by a two-step pack cementation technique. XRD (X-ray diffraction) and SEM (scanning electron microscopy)results show that the coating obtained by the first step pack cementation was a thin inner buffer layer of SiC with some cracks and pores, and a new phase of (WxMo1-x)Si2 appeared after the second step pack cementation. Oxidation test shows that, after oxidation in air at 1773 K for 175 h and thermal cycling between 1773 K and room temperature for 18 times, the weight loss of the W-Mo-Si/SiC coated C/C composites was only 2.06%. The oxidation protective failure of the W-Mo-Si/SiC coating was attributed to the formation of some penetrable cracks in the coating.
文摘The oxidation behavior and damage mechanism of modifiers and compounds of many types of ceramic coatings were investigated experimentally. Isothermal and cyclic thermal oxidation tests showed the multi layer coating was capable of protecting the C/C composites in an oxidizing atmosphere at temperature up to 1800℃.

文摘A Si-Al-lr oxidation resistant coating was prepared for SiC coated carbon/carbon composites by slurry dipping. The phase composition, microstructure and oxidation resistance of the as-prepared Si-Al-lr coating were studied by XRD (X-ray diffraction), SEM (scanning electron microscopy), and isothermal oxidation test at 1773 K in air, respectively. The surface of the as-prepared Si-Al-lr coating was dense and the thickness was approximately 100 um. Its anti-oxidation property was superior to that of the inner SiC coating. The weight loss of SiC/Si- Al-lr coated carbon/carbon composites was less than 5 wt. pct after oxidation at 1773 K in air for 79 h. The local oxidation defects in the coating may result in the failure of the SiC/Si-Al-Ir coating.

文摘Ti_(0.2)Zr_(0.2)Hf_(0.2)Nb_(0.2)Ta_(0.2)C-M_(t)C composite ceramic was prepared by hot press sintering, with the Ti_(0.2)Zr_(0.2)Hf_(0.2)Nb_(0.2)Ta_(0.2)C high-entropy carbide as the main phase.Secondary phase M_(x)C(M=Ti,Zr,Hf,Nb,Ta) was found to be distributed relatively uniform in the composite ceramic. The oxidation behavior of the ceramic was examined after exposure to 923 K and 1173 K.Morphology of the surface and cross sections of all oxidation samples were observed. The characteristics of the oxidation behavior of the high-entropy carbide and the secondary phase M_(x)C were compared and analyzed. The secondary phases(such as Ti-rich carbide or Hf-rich carbide) in the material were seriously oxidized at 923 K and 1173 K,which reflects the superior oxidation performance of the high-entropy carbide. The nano high-entropy oxides with Ti,Zr,Hf,Nb,Ta,and O elements were discovered by oxidation of the composite ceramic. This research will help deepen the understanding of the oxidation mechanism of high-entropy carbide and composite ceramic.

文摘In-situ Al2O3/TiAl composites were successfully synthesized from the starting powders of Ti, Al, TiO2 and Nb2O5. Nb element plays an important role in reducing the internal oxidation action of the materials, restraining the growth of TiO2 crystals and promoting the stable formation of the Al2O3-riched layer, which is beneficial to improve the oxidation properties.

文摘Conventional mechanical machining of a composite material comprising an aluminum matrix reinforced with a high volume fraction of SiC particles(hereinafter referred to as an SiCp/Al composite)faces problems such as rapid tool wear, high specific cutting force, and poor surface integrity.Instead,a promising method for solving these problems is laser-induced oxidation-assisted milling(LOAM):under laser irradiation, the local workpiece material reacts with oxygen, thus forming loose and porous oxides that are easily removed. In the present work, the oxidation mechanism of SiCp/Al irradiated by a nanosecond pulsed laser is studied to better understand the laser-induced oxidation behavior and control the characteristics of the oxides, with laser irradiation experiments performed on a 65%SiCp/Al composite with various laser parameters and auxiliary gases(oxygen, nitrogen, and argon). With increasing laser pulse energy density, both the ablated groove depth and the width of the heat-affected zone increase. When oxygen is used as the auxiliary gas,an oxide layer composed of SiO_(2)and Al2O3 forms, and CO_(2)is produced and escapes from the material, thereby forming pores in the oxides. However, when nitrogen or argon is used as the auxiliary gas,a recast layer is produced that is relatively difficult to remove.Under laser irradiation, the sputtered material reacts with oxygen to form oxides on both sides of the ablated groove, and as the laser scanning path advances, the produced oxides accumulate to form an oxide layer.LOAM and conventional milling are compared using the same milling parameters, and LOAM is found to be better for reduced milling force and tool wear and improved machined surface quality.
文摘Composites based on ultradispersed polytetrafluoroethylene and intercalated graphite oxide compounds with dodecahydro-closo-dodecaborates and methods of their fabrication have been developed. Introduction of ultradispersed polytetrafluoroethylene imparts composites with hydrophobicity, thus improving their functioning properties.
文摘Felt base carbon/carbon composites fabricated by super-high pressure impregnation carbonization process (SPIC) were heat treated at high temperature 2773K. The oxidation properties of felt base carbon/carbon composites were investigated at different temperatures (773-1173K), and the microstructures of carbon/carbon composites were studied by SEM and X-ray diffraction. The experimental results showed that the inter-laminar distance of (002) plane (d002) deceased while the microcrystalline stack height (Lc) increased. The oxidation rate of felt base carbon/carbon composites was invari-able at certain temperatures. The oxidation mechanism of carbon/carbon composites changed remarkably at the oxidation temperature 973K. At the initial oxidation stage of carbon/carbon composites, carbon matrix was oxidized much more rapidly than carbon felt.
