Oxygen reduction reaction(ORR)has been disclosed in recent studies as a significant secondary cathodic process during magnesium corrosion.This work elaborates on the contribution of ORR to the total corrosion process of pure Mg at different impurity levels in NaCl electrolyte with the assistance of local techniques.A finite element based numerical model taking into account the contribution of ORR during the corrosion of the Mg test materials has been designed in this study considering the local oxygen concentration.Respective computational simulations were calibrated based on the experimental data and evaluated accordingly.Finally,the simultaneous monitoring of local concentration of H_(2) and O_(2),and the combined modeling study reveal the relation between ORR and hydrogen evolution reaction. 展开更多

Dissolved oxygen(DO)is an important indicator of aquaculture,and its accurate forecasting can effectively improve the quality of aquatic products.In this paper,a new DO hybrid forecasting model is proposed that includes three stages:multi-factor analysis,adaptive decomposition,and an optimizationbased ensemble.First,considering the complex factors affecting DO,the grey relational(GR)degree method is used to screen out the environmental factors most closely related to DO.The consideration of multiple factors makes model fusion more effective.Second,the series of DO,water temperature,salinity,and oxygen saturation are decomposed adaptively into sub-series by means of the empirical wavelet transform(EWT)method.Then,five benchmark models are utilized to forecast the sub-series of EWT decomposition.The ensemble weights of these five sub-forecasting models are calculated by particle swarm optimization and gravitational search algorithm(PSOGSA).Finally,a multi-factor ensemble model for DO is obtained by weighted allocation.The performance of the proposed model is verified by timeseries data collected by the pacific islands ocean observing system(PacIOOS)from the WQB04 station at Hilo.The evaluation indicators involved in the experiment include the Nash–Sutcliffe efficiency(NSE),Kling–Gupta efficiency(KGE),mean absolute percent error(MAPE),standard deviation of error(SDE),and coefficient of determination(R^(2)).Example analysis demonstrates that:①The proposed model can obtain excellent DO forecasting results;②the proposed model is superior to other comparison models;and③the forecasting model can be used to analyze the trend of DO and enable managers to make better management decisions. 展开更多

The large water-pumping and particle-capturing gills of the filter-feeding blue mussel Mytilus edulis are oversized for respiratory purposes. Consequently, the oxygen uptake rate of the mussel has been suggested to be rather insensitive to decreasing oxygen concentrations in the ambient water, since the diff usion rate of oxygen from water flowing through the mussel determines oxygen uptake. We tested this hypothesis by measuring the oxygen uptake in mussels exposed to various oxygen concentrations. These concentrations were established via N2-bubbling of the water in a respiration chamber with mussels fed algal cells to stimulate fully opening of the valves. It was found that mussels exposed to oxygen concentrations decreasing from 9 to 2 mg O_2/L resulted in a slow but significant reduction in the respiration rate, while the filtration rate remained high and constant. Thus, a decrease of oxygen concentration by 78% only resulted in a 25% decrease in respiration rate. However, at oxygen concentrations below 2 mg O_2/L M. edulis responded by gradually closing its valves, resulting in a rapid decrease of filtration rate, concurrent with a rapid reduction of respiration rate. These observations indicated that M.edulis is no longer able to maintain its normal aerobic metabolism at oxygen concentration below 2 mg O 2/L, and there seems to be an energy-saving mechanism in bivalve molluscs to strongly reduce their activity when exposed to low oxygen conditions. 展开更多

Oxidation corrosion of steels usually occurs in contact with the oxygen-contained environment, which is accelerated by high oxygen concentration and irradiation. The oxidation mechanism of steels is investigated by the adsorption/solution of oxygen atoms on/under body-centered-cubic(bcc) iron surfaces, and diffusion of oxygen atoms on the surface and in the near-surface region. Energetic results indicate that oxygen atoms prefer to adsorb at hollow and long-bridge positions on the Fe(100) and(110) surfaces, respectively. As the coverage of oxygen atoms increases, oxygen atoms would repel each other and gradually dissolve in the near-surface and bulk region. As vacancies exist, oxygen atoms are attracted by vacancies, especially in the near-surface and bulk region. Dynamic results indicate that the diffusion of O atoms on surfaces is easier than that into near-surface, which is affected by oxygen coverage and vacancies. Moreover, the effects of oxygen concentration and irradiation on oxygen density in the near-surface and bulk region are estimated by the Mc Lean’s model with a simple hypothesis. 展开更多

Transparent conductive cadmium indium oxide films (CdIn2O4) were prepared by r.f. reactive sputtering from Cd-In alloy targets under an Ar-O2 atmosphere. Electrical conductivity of the order of 105Ω-1.m-1 and the optical transmission as high as 94% are easily attained by postdeposition annealing treatment. The effects of oxygen concentration in the reactive gas mixture and post-deposition annealing treatment on the optical transmittance as well as optical parameters, such as refractive index (n), extinction coefficient (k), real part (ε') and imaginary part (ε') of the dielectric constant, were studied in the visible and near-infrared region. Two experimental techniques have been used to quantify the atomic oxygen density in the case of hot air plasma generated by a microwave (MW) resonant cavity. The latter operates at a frequency of 2.45 GHz inside a cell of gas conditioning at a pressure of 600 mbar, an injected air flow of 12 L/min and an input MW power of 1 kW. The first technique is based on the standard two photon absorption laser induced fluorescence (TALIF) using xenon for calibration but applied for the first time in the present post discharge hot air plasma column having a temperature of about 4500 K near the axis of the nozzle. The second diagnostic technique is an actinometry method based on optical emission spectroscopy (OES). In this case, we compared the spectra intensities of a specific atomic oxygen line (844 nm) and the closest wavelength xenon line (823 nm). The two lines need to be collected under absolutely the same spectroscopic parameters. The xenon emission is due to the addition of a small proportion of xenon (1% Xe) of this chemically inert gas inside the air while a further small quantity of H2 (2~) is also added in the mixture in order to collect OH(A- X) and NH(A-X) spectra without noise. The latter molecular spectra are required to estimate gas and excitation temperatures. Optical emission spectroscopy measurements, at for instance the position z=12 mm on the axis plasma column that leads to a gas measured temperature equal to 3500 K, an excitation temperature of about 9500 K and an atomic oxygen density 2.09× 1017+ 0.2×1017 cm-3. This is in very good agreement with the TALIF measurement, which is equal to 2.0×101T cm-3. 展开更多

The supply of highly concentrated oxygen positively affects cognitive processing in normal young adults. However, there have been few reports on changes in cognitive ability in elderly subjects following highly concentrated oxygen administration. This study investigated changes in cognitive ability, blood oxygen saturation (%), and heart rate (beats/min) in normal elderly subjects at three different levels of oxygen [21% (1 L/min), 93% (1 L/min), and 93% (5 L/min)] administered during a 1-back task. Eight elderly male (75.3 + 4.3 years old) and 10 female (71.1 + 3.9 years old) subjects, who were normal in cognitive ability as shown by a score of more than 24 points in the Mini-Mental State Examination-Korea, participated in the experiment. The experiment consisted of an adaptation phase after the start of oxygen administration (3 minutes), a control phase to obtain stable baseline measurements of heart rate and blood oxygen saturation before the task (2 minutes) and a task phase during which the 1-back task was performed (2 minutes). Three levels of oxygen were administered throughout the three phases (7 minutes). Blood oxygen saturation and heart rate were measured during each phase. Our results show that blood oxygen saturation increased, heart rate decreased, and response time in the 1-back task decreased as the concentration and amount of administered oxygen increased. This shows that administration of sufficient oxygen for optimal cognitive functioning increases blood oxygen saturation and decreases heart rate. 展开更多

With the syringe needle plasma as its pre-ionization source, the hybrid barrier-jet was shown to generate uniform discharge with a lower breakdown voltage and a relatively low gas temperature varying from 390 K to 440 K, even when the vol.% oxygen in argon was up to 6%. Utilizing the actinometry method, the concentration of atomic oxygen was estimated to be about in an orders of magnitude of 10^17 cm^-3. The argon/oxygen plasma jet was then employed to clean out heat transfer oil, with a maximum cleaning rate of 0.1 mm/s achieved. 展开更多

Ectothermic animals are tolerant of variable oxygen availability, whether low-oxygen levels constrain the fitness of ectotherms remains unclear. Nanorana parkeri, an anuran endemic to the southern Tibetan plateau, is an excellent model with which to answer this question. In this study, we raised tadpoles ofN. parkeri in oxygenated water (high-oxygen group) and deoxygenated unchlorinated tap water (low-oxygen group) and monitored their growth, mortality, and telomere length. The growth rate for body length and body weight was higher in the low-oxygen group than in the high-oxygen group. However, dissolved oxygen did not affect development time, mortality, and telomere length of the tadpoles. These results suggest that although the oxygen concentration influenced some phenotype traits of plateau tadpoles, but it didn't influence the telomere length and survival rate, potential explanations are the local adaptation and N. parkeri tadpoles' wide oxygen tolerance, and fluctuant toxic content that resulted in little oxidative stress on tadpoles. These results indicated that low oxygen was not a stress to N. parkeri tadpoles' fitness and survival. This study is helpful in understanding the adaptation mechanisms of Tibetan plateau amphibians. 展开更多

The effects of initial oxygen concentration on the reverse leakage current of PIN rectifier diodes were studied.We fabricated the PIN rectifier diodes with different initial oxygen concentrations,and analyzed the electrical properties,anisotropic preferred etching by means of optical microscopy,Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and transmission electron microscopy.It is pointed out that the reverse leakage current increases exponentially with the increasing initial oxygen concentration.Furtherly,we researched and analyzed the mechanism of the effects of initial oxygen concentration on the reverse leakage current of PIN rectifier diode.It is shown that the oxygen precipitations present in an "S" curve with increasing initial oxygen concentration after high temperature diffusion.The main reason is that the nucleation and growth of oxygen precipitation at high temperature induce bulk oxidation-induced defects (B-OSF),which are mainly dislocations,and a small amount of rod stacking faults.The density of B-OSF increases with the increasing initial oxygen concentration.The existence of B-OSF has great effects on the reverse leakage current of PIN rectifier diode. 展开更多

Required flow rate of fresh oxygen (OFR), inspired oxygen concentration (FiO2 ) and oxygen saturation of pulse oximeter (SpO2) were measured continu0usly. Patients were equally divided into three groups at randorn, group C (no MRGN used ), group M, (using MRGM with its tail gas returned to circuit system), group M2 (using MRGM without tail gas returned ). The results revealed that during 180 min of closed anesthesia, OFR required in group C and M, were about 200-230 ml/min, and in group M, it was ab0ut 400 ml/min. In group C FiO2 decreased by about 10 % after 60 min of closed anesthesia (P<0. 01, 60 min vs 0 min ) and then stayed stable at this level. In group M,, FiO2 decreased by 16% at 60 min and 34 % at 180 min and the decrease was significantly greater than that in gr0up C (P<0. 01). In group Me, FiO2 remained c0nstant during closed anesthesia, which was much high(Jr than those in group C and M,. A turbocharged diesel engine model was built with the GT-Power software,and experimentally verified.Then two different control variables for the control of the variable geometry turbocharger(VGT)were described,and their distinct effects on engine performance,i.e.NOxand soot emissions and fuel consumption,were simulated and compared on the basis of this model.The results showed that NOxemissions decreased obviously with the increase of exhaust gas recirculation(EGR)rate at constant boost pressure condition,but soot emissions and fuel consumption considerably increased.It was a good way to reduce NOxemissions without increasing fuel consumption and soot emissions when VGT was controlled to maintain the excess oxygen ratio unchanged as EGR rate increases. 展开更多

The four parameters shown above were measured at the site of 12<sup>o</sup>N 135<sup>o</sup>N during the cruise, MR13-03 cruise, and at the site of 25<sup>o</sup>N 160<sup>o</sup>E during another cruise KH-14-02. Significant and positive correlation between all biomass (especially invertebrates) and population density of oceanic sea skaters collected with a Neuston-Net trailing during 15 min was shown in overall analysis on the data of the both samplings (p <sup>o</sup>N 160<sup>o</sup>E than that at 12<sup>o</sup>N 135<sup>o</sup>N with similar value of chlorophyll value (p <sup>o</sup>N 160<sup>o</sup>E than that at 12<sup>o</sup>N 135<sup>o</sup>N for keeping high density population of oceanic sea skaters. 展开更多

With a self-made near-infrared analytical instrument to blood and oxygen parameters in human brain, 80 cases in which 20 are healthy persons and 30 are anaesthetised cases and others are patients with heart function lack is taken to examine, and the data of blood and oxygen in brain tissue were collected and analyzed by the method of power spectrum and correlation function. The results indicate that: (1) The average brain oxygen saturation of healthy persons and anaesthetised cases is about 80%, in accord with normal parameter of physiology. Contrastively, the average brain oxygen saturation of patients with heart function lack is 72.8%, which is obviously less than that of healthy persons and anaesthetised cases. The probability of medical statistics is less than 0.01. (2) The shapes of wave of brain blood and oxygen for the healthy person and the anaesthetised case reveal small periodical fluctuations with stable shape and base line, and the trend of increase or decrease of blood and oxygen parameters in brain tissue is synchronous and a phase reversal, but for the patient with heart function lack in a brain oxygen lack state, the shapes of wave are irregular. This is a hint that near infrared light passing through tissue can reflect the intuitionistic change of brain blood and oxygen parameters.(3) The power spectra of brain blood and oxygen for the healthy person and the anaesthetised case has a clear main peak, narrow bandwidth and perfect superposition each other, but the power spectra for the patient with heart function lack in a brain oxygen lack state is on the contrary.(4) The average cross correlation coefficient of brain blood and oxygen for healthy persons and anaesthetised cases is -0.9825±0.1027 close to -1. But the average cross correlation coefficient for patients with heart function lack in a brain oxygen lack state is merely -0.8923±0.1035 which is obviously greater than -1 and the probability of medical statistics is less than 0.01. The clinic experiments have proved that the shapes of waves, the power spectrum and cross correlation coefficient of brain blood and oxygen are useful to analyze the physiological status and changes of blood and oxygen in human brain. 展开更多

A decline in atmospheric oxygen concentration is projected in the 21st century given the background of global warming.The Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau is located at a high altitude,and thus,it faces a hypoxia challenge;however,knowledge of the factors contributing to its atmospheric oxygen concentration is still lacking.Here,we conducted joint observations of ecosystem oxygen production and carbon sinks and near-surface atmospheric oxygen concentrations on the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau and meteorological elements at Beijing Fangshan Station.Using seasonal differences and statistical methods,we calculated the relative contribution rates of vegetation to changes in atmospheric oxygen concentration.Our results indicate that solar radiation,atmospheric humidity,and ecosystem oxygen consumption and production have a significant impact on the atmospheric oxygen concentration,and the impact shows temporal and spatial differences.Vegetation significantly impacts the oxygen concentration,with a contribution rate of 16.7%–24.5%,which is underestimated in existing research.Our findings provide important insights into the factors that influence atmospheric oxygen concentration and highlight the contribution of vegetation.To better understand the oxygen dynamics of the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau,we recommend further field observations of soil respiration and vegetation photosynthesis to clarify the contributions of carbon storage,carbon sinks and other factors to the near-surface atmospheric oxygen concentration. 展开更多

Antibacterial ceramic was prepared by doping enamel slurry with composite phosphate inorganic antibacterial materials containing rare earth (inorganic antibacterial additives), and then the mechanisms for activating water and improving seed germinative property were tested by nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and the method of testing oxygen dissolved in activated water. Results show that the half peak width of (()^(17)O-NMR) for tap water activated by the antibacterial ceramic drops from 115.36 to 99.15 Hz, and oxygen concentrations of activated water increase by 20%, germinate rate of horsebean and earthnut seeds increases by 12.5% and 7.5%, respectively. Therefore antibacterial ceramic doped enamel slurry with inorganic antibacterial additives containing rare earth can reduce the volume of clusters of water molecules, improve activation of tap water, and promote plant seeds germinate. 展开更多

The as-prepared NaCl-KCl-TiClx melt was employed as the electrolyte, and two parallel crude titanium plates and one high-purity titanium plate were used as the anode and cathode, respectively. A series of electrochemical tests were performed to investigate the influence of electrolytic parameters on the current efficiency and quality of cathodic products. The results indicated that the quality of cathodic products was related to the current efficiency, which is significantly dependent on the current density and the initial concentration of titanium ions. The significance of this study is the attainment of high-purity titanium with a low oxygen content of 30× 10^-6. 展开更多

A two-dimensional geometric model is developed for a polymer electrolyte based on the liquid water penetration mechanism in the membrane electrode assemblies under the action of capillary pressure.The effects of the diameter,number,and distribution of cracks in the micro-pore layers(MPLs)of the modeled MEA on the performance of the PEMFC are simulated to investigate the influence of mass transfer across the membrane.The results indicate that liquid water in the catalyst layer(CL)of the MEA can be discharged to gas channels through the cracks in MEA under the action of capillary pressure,thereby alleviating the flooding in the CL and enhancing the diffusion of oxygen to the CL.When the proportion of the total area of cracks in the active area of the MEA was 8%-12%,crack diameter was 20-30μm,and cracks were distributed uniformly.MEAs with and without cracks were prepared,fuel cells were assembled,and their performance was measured.The effects of cracks on mass transfer were then verified.This study helps prepare MEAs with controllable cracks. 展开更多
