The objective of this study is to improve the mechanical properties and machining performance of high thermal conductivity and low expansion silicon carbide dispersion-strengthened hypereutectic aluminum-silicon electronic packaging materials to meet the needs of aviation,aerospace,and electronic packaging fields.We used the powder metallurgy method and high-temperature hot pressing technology to prepare SiC/Al-Si composite materials with different SiC contents(5vol%,10vol%,15vol%,and 20vol%).The results showed that as the SiC content increased,the tensile strength of the composite material first increased and then decreased.The tensile strength was the highest when the SiC content was 15%;the sintering temperature significantly affected the composite material’s structural density and mechanical properties.Findings indicated 700℃was the optimal sintering and the optimal SiC content of SiC/Al-Si composite materials was between 10%and 15%.Besides,the sintering temperature should be strictly controlled to improve the material’s structural density and mechanical properties. 展开更多

Thermal property is one of the most important properties of light-emitting diode (LED). Thermal property of LED packaging material determines the heat dissipations of the phosphor and the chip surface, accordingly having an influence on the light-emitting efficiency and the life-span of the device. In this paper, photoacoustic piezoelectric (PAPE) technique has been employed to investigate the thermal properties of polyvinyl alcohol (]?VA) and silicon dioxide, which are the new and the traditional packaging materials in white LED, respectively. Firstly, the theory of PAPE technique has been developed for two-layer model in order to investigate soft materials; secondly, the experimental system has been set up and adjusted by measuring the reference sample; thirdly, the thermal diffusivities of PVA and silicon dioxide are measured and analysed. The experimental results show that PVA has a higher thermal diffusivity than silicon dioxide and is a better packaging material in the sense of thermal diffusivity for white LED. 展开更多

Paper packaging materials like cardboards are widely used to protect archives which are a major kind of cultural relics.Unfortunately,paper is a combustible material,and thus exploring environment-friendly flame retardant for paper-based archive packaging material plays an important role.Herein,boric acid,borax and disodium octaborate are used to modify the craft paper-based packaging materials for archive conservation to improve fire safety.The modified craft paper exhibits much higher flame retardancy than the pristine one dose based on vertical burning tests,without much influence on mechanical properties such as tensile strength and elongation at break.Thermogravimetric analysis(TGA),scanning electron microscope(SEM),and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS)reveal that porous glass structure is formed during the combustion,because thermal decomposition of boric acid,borax and disodium octaborate will produce porous glassy matter as B_(2)O_(3).The porous glass covers the paper surface as an insulating layer which retards the further pyrolysis and combustion,resulting in a denser carbon layer.Our study provides a robust way to reduce the fire hazard of the archive packaging material by applying environment-friendly boron-based fire retardants. 展开更多

A polymer-based carbon nano-tubes (CNTs) composite with high electromagnetic (EM) wave shielding effectiveness (SE) and with high mechanical property is developed for packaging of electronic modulus or devices.The liquid crystal polymers (LCP) and melamine formaldehydes (MF) polymer are used to study the orientation effect of CNTs in various polymeric matrix.The influences of orientation,aspect ratio,and mass fraction of CNTs upon the shielding effectiveness (SE) of CNTs-composites are investigated.The higher the orientation,aspect ratio,and weight percentages of nano-materials are, the higher the SE of the carbon composites.The highest SE for the CNTs/LCP nano composite obtained is more than 62 dB. In this study kokum rind dried by different methods,i.e.open air sun drying,solar drying and the convective hot air drying(60℃)was taken after being packaged in gunny bags,nylon bags and plastic jars for storage study upto nine months.The effect of different drying methods on quality parameters i.e.acidity,pH,TSS,reducing sugar,non-reducing sugar,colour(L,a and b)and calorific value of the stored product were evaluated.The quality parameters were tested at three-month intervals.Among three packaging materials,plastic jar was found best for kokum rind storage upto nine months as compared with nylon and gunny bags.Deterioration occurred as changes in acidity,non-reducing sugar,lightness,redness and calorific value over the storage period from the 0^(th) to the 9^(th) month.However,the TSS and b value increased as storage duration extended. 展开更多

The serious problems caused by extensive usage of petroleum-based plastic materials led to investigating the comprehensive studies and developing active food packaging materials.Even if the chitosan-based films are considered an attractive source,they exhibit some practical difficulties in developing active food packaging applications.Hence,Ficus carica Linn leaves extract(FLE),with the features of its cheapness,easy accessibility and superoxide anion radical scavenging activity,was incorporated into chitosan(CS)film at various concentrations(2%-6%w/w).To the best of our knowledge,this was the first time that FLE was utilized as a bioactive substance incorporated into chitosan films to develop eco-friendly,biodegradable,active food packaging material.The results obtained revealed that FLE incorporation into chitosan films significantly improved the swelling,water solubility and opacity of neat chitosan films.FTIR and morphological analysis indicated that the films produced exhibited smooth structure with homogenous dispersion of FLE.In mechanically,the addition of FLE resulted in a significant reduction in tensile strength while the elasticity of the films was improved.Additionally,the antioxidant and biodegradability properties of neat chitosan films were enhanced significantly.It was concluded that CS-FLE films appeared to be a capable and enhanced option for synthetic polymer-based food packaging materials.Based on the analyses performed,further studies are suggested on the packaging application for various foods and to evaluate the possible interaction of packaging film materials with the compounds of the food products,to avoid possible negative effects. 展开更多

The effects of different grinding methods and packaging materials on qualities of fenugreek and black pepper powders were evaluated.Various parameters and their evaluation methods are as follows:change in colour determined using Chroma meter calorimeter,aroma and odour measured by sensory evaluation,and change in moisture measured using oven drying method.Packaging materials such as glass jar,steel jar,plastic jar,aluminum bag and poly bags were used for keeping ambient and cryogenically ground fenugreek and black pepper powders.Packed powders were stored in dry and cool places under ambient condition.Sensory evaluation revealed quality reduction in terms of colour,odour,flavour,aroma and acceptability for fenugreek and black pepper powder stored for a long term(6 months).However,glass jar and steel jar were found to be better containers for storing powders for longer storage period than other options.For practical applications,the present investigation on the deterioration behaviour of fenugreek and black pepper powder contributes to the design of a suitable grinder out of ball,hammer,rotor,and pin mill for spice grinding.The study also helps select a suitable packaging material or container to store spice powders.A method to assess the quality of stored powder and its deterioration with the storage time is provided. 展开更多

Wood packaging waste with a high recycling value is one of the main components of packaging waste.However,most research has been focused on natural wood,and less is known about the recycling of wood-based panel waste commonly used in packaging.This paper examined the pyrolysis of common urea-formaldehyde(UF)resin particleboard,including the decomposition characteristics of its nitrogen-containing adhesives,the product types,and how they are generated.The samples and pyrolysis products were analyzed by infrared spectroscopy.The results showed that the UF resin was the main contributor to the release of ammonia(NH3)and hydrogen cyanide(HCN).At low temperatures,more NH3 was released than the HCN,and at high temperatures,the reverse was true.A high heating rate promoted the release of the NH_(3) and HCN.The UF resin and wood in the particleboard interacted and caused the release of the NH3 and HCN.These results provide a reference for further study of the thermochemical regeneration of wood-based packaging waste. 展开更多

The current work explores the potential use of commercial Chinese bayberry tannin(BT)to develop antioxidant PVA-based films using solvent casting process for packaging applications.The effect of BT concentration on opa-city,water resistance and antioxidant capacity of resulting films was investigated.Properties like tensile strength,thermal behavior,and morphological aspects were also characterized.The experimental results showed that PVA/BT films formed with uniformly brown color and generally good transparency,offering good antioxidant ability.The PVA film containing BT presented slightly higher water resistance according to the results of moisture content and water vapor permeability,especially at low BT content(<10 wt%).The PVA can be compounded with up to 10 wt%BT without any obvious deterioration in the tensile strength.The PVA/BT films exhibited better thermal degradation behavior compared with PVA alone because of the chemical bonds of PVA-BT and the for-mation of char at high temperature.Based on the results,PVA incorporated with Chinese bayberry tannin may provide broader formulation options for packaging materials with antioxidant action. 展开更多

A novel type of ZnO-Al2O3-B2O3-SiO2 glass-ceramics sealing to Kovar in electronic packaging was developed, whose thermal expansion coefficient and electrical resistance are 5.2× 10^-6/℃ and over 1×10^13 Ω·cm, respectively. The major crystalline phases in the glass-ceramic seals were ZnAl2O4, ZnB2O4, and NaSiAl2O4. The dielectric resistance of the glass-ceramic could be remarkably enhanced through the control of alkali metal ions into crystal lattices. It was found that crystallization happened first on the surface of the sample, leaving the amorphous phase in the inner, which made the glass suitable for sealing. The glass-ceramic showed better wetting on the Kovar surface, and sealing atmosphere and temperature had great effect on the wetting angle. Strong interracial bonding was obtained, which was mainly attributed to the interracial reaction between SiO2 and FeO or Fe3O4. 展开更多

Magnetics,ferroelectrics,and multiferroics have attracted great attentions because they are not only extremely im-portant for investigating fundamental physics,but also have important applications in information technology.Here,recent computational studies on magnetism and ferroelectricity are reviewed.We first give a brief introduction to magnets,fer-roelectrics,and multiferroics.Then,theoretical models and corresponding computational methods for investigating these materials are presented.In particular,a new method for computing the linear magnetoelectric coupling tensor without applying an external field in the first principle calculations is proposed for the first time.The functionalities of our home-made Property Analysis and Simulation Package for materials(PASP)and its applications in the field of magnetism and ferroelectricity are discussed.Finally,we summarize this review and give a perspective on possible directions of future computational studies on magnetism and ferroelectricity. 展开更多

This study discusses on the tailoring of cinnamon oil emulsion-based gelatin edible films that can encapsulate,protect and release bioactive compounds in food packaging applications.The effect of this cinnamon oil film for shelf-life extension and storage stabilities of wax apples(Syzygium samarangense L.)was evaluated over 12-day storage at refrigerated temperature(5℃).Emulsion of cinnamon oil and surfactant at different ratios of 70:30(ME1),60:40(ME2)and 50:50(ME3)was incorporated into the films and the interactions between the emulsion and polymeric structure in films were analysed through physical,morphological and functional properties.The cinnamon oil emulsion-based gelatin films with a ratio of 70:30 exhibited significant increase in mechanical,water barrier,antioxidant activity and thermal stability.The increase in antioxidant activity of cinnamon oil films revealed that encapsulation of cinnamon oil in gelatin matrix better retains the bioactive compounds for food packaging applications.Cinnamon oil emulsion-based films significantly lowered the weight loss of wax apples(12.43%)compared to the control(unwrapped)wax apples(26.40%).Interestingly,this research indicates that encapsulation of bioactive compounds is governed by the ratio of oil to surfactant mixture in emulsion.It was proved that the film microemulsion with the 70:30 ratio of oil to surfactant(FME 70)have better overall performances as compared to the control(gelatin films)due to hydrogen and hydrophobic interactions with protein network of gelatin.In conclusion,cinnamon oil emulsion-based films could enhance and modify the functionality of protein-based films creating a biodegradable,sustainable and cost-effective food packaging materials. 展开更多

Aqueous rechargeable batteries with high safety have been considered as the main energy source to power portable and wearable electronics.Herein,we report the first construction of quasi-solid-state aqueous tin-iodine batteries by exploiting Sn foil as anode,carbon cloth as cathode,and gel electrolytes.The anode reversibly converts from K_(2)Sn(OH)_(6) to metal Sn,thus eliminating the formation of metal dendrites.Meanwhile,gel electrolytes alleviate anode corrosion and enhance the utilization of the anode.Therefore,the asfabricated quasi-solid-state batteries manifest an areal capacity of 700μAh cm^(-2)(211 mAh g^(-1) equal to theoretical capacity)and excellent cycling stability without obvious capacity degradation after 120 cycles at 1mA cm^(-2).Remarkably,the designed batteries sealed by different package materials including plastic,glass,wood,and cardboard operated steadily,thereby enlarging the application scenario for these batteries.This work enriches the family of aqueous rechargeable batteries and sheds light on the construction of high-performance quasi-solid-state aqueous batteries. 展开更多

Packaging material has an important role in extending the shelf-life of fruits.This study investigated the effectiveness of cellulose nanocrystals(CNCs)derived from Kudzu(Pueraria montana)vine to reinforce to starch-based films.In addition,the essential oil was incorporated into these nanocomposite films to evaluate further improvement in film properties and applications.Different packaging materials,including the pearl millet starch(PMS),PMS reinforced with Kudzu CNCs,and PMS reinforced with Kudzu CNCs stabilized pickering emulsion containing clove bud oil(CBO),was used to develop biodegradable nanocomposite films.The films were investigated for their thermal,morphological,mechanical,and barrier properties.In addition,the films were used as packaging material to improve the shelf life of the grapes for 15 days at 5℃.PMS films reinforced with Kudzu CNCs stabilized pickering emulsion of CBO were most effective in extending the shelf life of red grapes up to 15 days at 5℃ by maintaining the weight,firmness,and soluble solids in grapes for a longer duration during storage.The study suggests that PMS+Kudzu CNCs+EO films have the potential for commercial packaging of fruits during short storage periods without adversely affecting their quality and sensory attributes. 展开更多

In this work, low-temperature vulcanized, transparent silane modified epoxy resins for LED filament bulb package were prepared. Firstly, transparent silane modified epoxy resins were produced through a controllable sol-gel method using γ-(2,3-epoxypropoxy)propytrimethoxysilane and dimethyldiethoxylsilane. The features of the reaction were investigated and the products were characterized in detail. Subsequently, various curing agents were explored to prepare transparent silane modified epoxy resins. The silane modified epoxy resins cured by PEA-230 at a fairly low temperature(40 °C/2 h then 60 °C/1 h) exhibited excellent thermal stability with a thermal degradation temperature as high as 316.5 °C and adjustable hardness between 40-60 shore A. The application tests showed the materials obtained were good candidates for LED filament bulb package. 展开更多
