The Yumen vacuum residue (YVR), the bottoms of a paraffinic crude oil is unfit for the production of highway paving asphalts directly, Neither are the de-oiled asphalts of the YVR. In this research a blending method and an optimal process of solvent de-asphalts are adopted to investigate the feasibility of formulating highway-paving asphalts from YVR. Results show that highway paving asphalts are formulated by blending solvent de-oiled asphalts with one or more of the materials including YVR, decanted oil from FCC process, and furfural extracts from lubricating base stocks. Further investigations indicate that adding oil decanted from FCC process to the solvent de-asphalting process can increase the de-asphalted oil production, improve the de-oiled asphalts quality, and thus optimize the refinery processes. The methodology of this research can be extended even to refineries processing non-paraffinic crude oils.展开更多

Isocyanate reacted with polyols to synthesize the polyurethane skin layer on urea granules surface. Paraffin serves as a lubricant during syntheses of polyurethane skin layers. The structure and nutrient release characteristics of the polyurethane skin layers were investigated by FTIR, SEM and TG. Urea nitrogen slow-release behavior of the polyurethane coated urea was tested. The experimental results indicated that compact and dense polyurethane skin layers with a thickness of 10-15 lam were formed on urea surface, the urea nitrogen slow-release time can reach 40-50 days. Paraffin proves to play a key role in inhibiting water to penetrate into urea, but excessive addition would decrease the polyurethane crosslinking density.展开更多

The chemical structure, morphology, phase change temperature and enthalpy, and mechanical properties of the composite PCM were studied to evaluate the encapsulation effect of PMMA on PCP and determine the optimal composition proportion. FTIR and SEM results revealed that PCP was physically immobilized in the PMMA so that its leakage from the composite was prevented. Based on the thermo-physical and mechanical properties investigations, the optimal mass fraction of PCP in the composite was determined as 70%. The phase change temperature of the composite was close to that of PCP, and its latent heat was equivalent to the calculated value according to the mass fraction of PCP in the composite. For estimating the usability in practical engineering, thermal stability, reliability and temperature regulation performance of the composite were also researched by TG analysis, thermal cycling treatments and heating-cooling test. The results indicated that PCP/PMMA composite PCM behaved good thermal stability depending on the PMMA protection and its latent heat degraded little after 500 thermal cycling. Temperature regulation performance of the composite before and after thermal cycling was both noticeable due to its latent heat absorption and release in the temperature variation processes. The PCP/PMMA phase change plate was fabricated and applied as thermal insulator in miniature concrete box to estimate its temperature regulation effect under the simulated environmental condition. It can be concluded that this kind of PCP/PMMA shape-stabilized PCM with the advantages of no leakage, suitable phase change temperature and enthalpy, good thermal stability and reliability, and effective temperature regulation performance have much potential for thermal energy storage in building energy conservation.展开更多

The normal paraffin hydrocarbon distribution patterns of six crude oils were built and compared. The cluster analysis on the normal paraffin hydrocarbon concentration was conducted for classification and some ratios of oils were used for oils comparison. The results indicated: there was a clear difference within different crude oils in different oil fields and a small difference between the crude oils in the same oil platform. The normal paraffin hydrocarbon distribution pattern and ratios, as well as the cluster analysis on the nomad paraffin hydrocarbon concentration can have a better differentiation result for the crude oils with small difference than the original gas chromatogram.展开更多

Oil spills influence natural microbial community, and physical and chemical properties of the affected sites. The biodegradation of hydrocarbons by microorganisms is one of the primary ways by which oil spill is eliminated from contaminated sites. One such spill was that of the Russian tanker the Nakhodka that spilled heavy oil into the Sea of Japan on January 2, 1997. The impact of the Nakhodka oil spill resulted in a viscous sticky fluid fouling the shores and affected natural ecosystems. This paper describes the weathering of hydrocarbon-degrading bacteria (genus Pseudomonas) and crystallized organic compounds from the Nakhodka oil spill-polluted seashores after nine years. The Nakhodka oil has hardened and formed crust of crystalline paraffin wax as shown by XRD analysis (0.422, 0.377, and 0.250 nm d-spacing) in association with graphite and calcite after 9 years of bioremediation. Anaerobic reverse side of the oil crust contained numerous coccus typed bacteria associated with halite. The finding of hydrocarbon-degrading bacteria and paraffin wax in the oil crust may have a significant effect on the weathering processes of the Nakhodka oil spill during the 9- year bioremediation.展开更多

The BDS and thermally oxidized oleylamine-modified BDS(T-BDS-OLA)were characterized through various methods including the use of TG, FETEM, Raman spectroscopy, FTIR, and a zeta potentiometer. The tribological properties and mechanisms of the BDS before and after the thermally oxidized treatment modification were investigated using a ball-on-disc reciprocating tribometer, FESEM, 3 D laser-scanning microscopy, and Raman spectroscopy. The results showed that T-BDS-OLA has a higher degree of order than the BDS, with an onion-like microstructure. BDS and T-BDS-OLA can both improve the antifriction and antiwear properties of LP at a soot content of 0.1%-0.4%, while T-BDS-OLA in LP shows better antifriction and antiwear properties than BDS. The tribological mechanisms can be attributed to both types of soot acting as spacing and roll bearing between the friction surfaces. In addition, the exfoliated graphitic sheets from T-BDS-OLA can form a carbon lubrication layer providing easy sliding.展开更多

Then, this composite was used in the Trombe wall to improve its energy storage ability. Further, its energy storage ability was compared to that of ordinary concrete wall through contrastive test. The experiments show that palygorskite clay is a type of clay mineral with strong adsorption ability, and the purity of natural palygorskite clay can reach up to 97.1% after certain purification processes. Paraffin is well adsorbed by palygorskite, and the test results show that the optimal adsorption ratio is palygorskite: paraffin = 2:1(mass ratio). Palygorskite/paraffin phase change composites can be obtained by using palygorskite as the adsorbing medium to adsorb paraffin. The composite materials exhibit good heat storage(release) performance, which can store heat with increasing environment temperature and release heat with decreasing temperature. This property not only increases the inertia to environment temperature change, but also promotes the energy migration in different time and space, thus achieving a certain energy-saving effect. The application of palygorskite/paraffin phase change composite materials to the Trombe wall can significantly reduce the fluctuation of indoor temperature and enhance the thermal inertia of indoor environment. From the aspect of energy storage effect, the Trombe wall fabricated using PCMs is significantly superior to the concrete wall with the same thickness.展开更多

文摘Objective:Pediatric burns pose difficult healthcare issues in underdeveloped nations.Due to the scarcity of pediatric burn care facilities and qualified burn‑care staff, patients are frequently referred from a rural hospital. This study explores the burn‑treatment approach that could be used in rural hospitals in the absence of a dedicated pediatric burn care facility.Materials and Methods:A retrospective analysis of clinical data of 199 children who received treatment for burn‑injury in an isolated general surgical ward.Wound debridement under anesthesia at the earliest was the cornerstone of the treatment plan for this cohort.Until the wounds healed, the treatment was repeated every alternate day.The patient’s demographic data, number of surgical dressings, length of hospital stay, and outcome were analyzed. Results:The mean age of the patients was 51.68±23.79 months. The male‑female ratio was 1.45:1.The survival rate was 99.00%.The disability rate was 4.52%.Univariate logistic regression identified the age group, total body surface area affected, depth of the wound, and time of intervention as statistically significant variables(P<0.05)predicting the disfigurement.Multivariate logistic regression identified the time intervals between surgical intervention and injury as an important predictor of morbidity. In addition, delayed presentation and delayed intervention led to a longer hospital stay, and more interventions than the early intervention cohort. Conclusions:Early debridement accelerates recovery and lessens the need for future skin grafts or contracture procedures. This approach can be used in rural hospitals as well because pediatric burns can be manageable in an isolated general ward.
文摘Many specifications of paving asphalts are closely related to their colloidal stability, which is, however, determined by their exact chemical compositions. The methodology of this research can be extended even to refineries processing non-paraffinic crude oils.

文摘Polyurethane coated urea slow/controlled release fertilizer was prepared based on urea granules, isocyanate, polyols and paraffin. Paraffin proves to play a key role in inhibiting water to penetrate into urea, but excessive addition would decrease the polyurethane crosslinking density.

文摘The composite phase change material(PCM) consisting of phase change paraffin(PCP) and polymethyl methacrylate(PMMA) was prepared as a novel type of shape-stabilized PCM for building energy conservation through the method of bulk polymerization. It can be concluded that this kind of PCP/PMMA shape-stabilized PCM with the advantages of no leakage, suitable phase change temperature and enthalpy, good thermal stability and reliability, and effective temperature regulation performance have much potential for thermal energy storage in building energy conservation.
文摘Paraffin deposition is a severe global problem during crude oil production and transportation. To inhibit the formation of paraffin deposits, the commonly used methods are mechanical cleaning, coating the pipe to provide a smooth surface and reduce paraffin adhesion, electric heating, ultrasonic and microbial treatments, the use of paraffin inhibitors, etc.Pipeline coatings not only have the advantages of simple preparation and broad applications, but also maintain a long-term efficient and stable effect. In recent years, important progress has been made in research on pipe coatings for mitigating and preventing paraffin deposition.Several novel superhydrophilic organogel coatings with low surface energy were successfully prepared by bionic design. This paper reviews different types of coatings for inhibiting wax deposition in the petroleum industry. The research prospects and directions of this rapidly developing field are also briefly discussed.

文摘By gas chromatogram, six crude oils fingerprinting distributed in four oilfields and four oil platforms were analyzed and the corre- sponding normal paraffin hydrocarbon ( including pristane and phytane) concentration was obtained by the internal standard methed. The normal paraffin hydrocarbon distribution pattern and ratios, as well as the cluster analysis on the nomad paraffin hydrocarbon concentration can have a better differentiation result for the crude oils with small difference than the original gas chromatogram.

文摘Chimonanthus praecox is an important ornamental plant and cut flower material in China. It blooms in the freezing winter and its flower emits charming fragrance. However,in different region the flowering time is variable. In order to understand the flowering mechanism of Ch.praecox in the winter,we studied the flower bud differentiation in Spring City-Kunming using paraffin sectioning method in the present study.Meanwhile we compared the differentiation process difference from different regions. It was found that the temperature is the key factor for its flower bud differentiation and blossom of Ch.praecox.In the process of bud differentiation, the temperature 20℃was the optimum for inducing changes from vegetative axillary buds to reproductive buds and subsequent morphological differentiation in Ch.praecox.Furthermore in the first three differentiation periods—tepal primordial stage, staminal primordial stage and pistil primordial stage,Kunming took the shortest time to finish the process due to very rapid temperature rise to 20℃,whereas,in Zhengzhou the time for these differentiations was the longest, which may be caused by the slow temperature rise. After May,the high temperature stress forced the flower buds into the first long dormant period in all regions except Kunming. In Kunming, the average temperature was only 20–25℃,so the flower bud continued to differentiate. In all regions,Kunming is the first to complete whole flower bud differentiation even on the early August, and started the second dormancy very early but very long.In the other regions, the plants went through a shorter dormancy and the low temperature broke the dormancy rapidly.Contrarily the plants of Kunming spent a longer period for the low temperature. Thus, the low temperature less than 10℃is a key factor to breaking the second dormancy.Surely the regular effects of temperature on flower bud differentiation and blossom is very helpful for florescence regulation of Ch.praecox.
文摘Pollution of petroleum hydrocarbons, in particular oil spills, has attracted much attention in the past and recent decades. The finding of hydrocarbon-degrading bacteria and paraffin wax in the oil crust may have a significant effect on the weathering processes of the Nakhodka oil spill during the 9- year bioremediation.

文摘To improve the tribological behavior of biodiesel soot(BDS) in liquid paraffin(LP), the order of biodiesel soot was increased through thermally oxidized treatment at 500 ℃, and the oil solubility was then improved through a modification using oleylamine(OLA). In addition, the exfoliated graphitic sheets from T-BDS-OLA can form a carbon lubrication layer providing easy sliding.

文摘Summary:Choosing proper perfusates as contrast agents is an important aspect for postmortem magnetic resonance angiography(PMMRA).However,in this emerging field, the number of suitable kinds of liquid is still very limited. The objective of this research is to compare MR images of oleic acid(OA)with paraffin oil(PO)in vitro and in ex situ animal hearts,in order to evaluate the feasibility to use OA as a novel contrast agent for PMMRA.In vitro,OA,PO and water(control)were introduced into three tubes separately and T,weighted-spin echo(Tw SE)and T2w-SE images were acquired on a 1.5T MR scanner. In the second experiment,0A and PO were injected into left coronary artery(LCA)and left ventricle(LV)of ex situ bovine hearts and their Tw-SE,Tzw-SE,Tw-multipoint Dixon(Tjw-mDixon)and 3DT2w-mDixon images were acquired. The overall results indicate that OA may have a potential to be used as a dual(T and T2 based)contrast agent for PMMRA when proper sequence parameters are utilized. However,as the pilot study was based on limited number of animal hearts, more researches using OA in cadavers are needed to validate our findings.

文摘Palygorskite/paraffin phase-change composites were prepared by the combination of purified palygorskite clay and sliced paraffin. From the aspect of energy storage effect, the Trombe wall fabricated using PCMs is significantly superior to the concrete wall with the same thickness.
文摘To meet the requirements for high aromatic content and low polycyclic aromatic(PCA)concentration,eco-friendly aromatic-rich rubber extender oils are usually produced by two-stage solvent extraction processes with furfural.Among the different properties of rubber processing oils, density and refractive index are some of the most important properties related to their final quality. Two types of methods, including a pseudo-component approach by using mixing rules and several correlations, were used for calculation of density and refractive index at 20℃ of paraffinic furfural-extract oils and their secondary raffinates. Results indicated that similar accuracy was obtained for predicting the density and the refractive index of furfural+furfural-extract paraffinic oil systems. However, the quadratic correlation presents its advantage over the pseudo-component approach when the composition of oils is not available. Moreover, the quadratic correlation was also used for naphthenic lubricating oils during two-stage solvent extraction processes. The predictions showed much larger discrepancies with respect to experimental values than those of paraffinic lubricating oils, which indicated that the quadratic correlation was more suitable for paraffinic oils with a CN value of below 37%.
