The high potentiality of integrating renewable energies, such as photovoltaic, into a modern electrical microgrid system, using DC-to-DC converters, raises some issues associated with controller loop design and system stability. The generalized state space average model(GSSAM)concept was consequently introduced to design a DC-to-DC converter controller in order to evaluate DC-to-DC converter performance and to conduct stability studies. This paper presents a GSSAM for parallel DC-to-DC converters, namely:buck, boost, and buck-boost converters. The rationale of this study is that modern electrical systems, such as DC networks, hybrid microgrids, and electric ships, are formed by parallel DC-to-DC converters with separate DC input sources. Therefore, this paper proposes a GSSAM for any number of parallel DC-to-DC converters. The proposed GSSAM is validated and investigated in a time-domain simulation environment, namely a MATLAB/SIMULINK.The study compares the steady-state,transient,and oscillatory performance of the state-space average model with a fully detailed switching model. 展开更多

A single-bus DC microgrid can represent a wide range of applications. Control objectives of such systems include high-performance bus voltage regulation and proper load sharing among multiple distributed generators(DGs) under various operating conditions. This paper presents a novel decentralized control algorithm that can guarantee both the transient voltage control performance and realize the predefined load sharing percentages. First, the output-constrained control problem is transformed into an equivalent unconstrained one. Second, a two-step backstepping control algorithm is designed based on the transformed model for bus-voltage regulation. Since the overall control effort can be split proportionally and calculated with locally-measurable signals, decentralized load sharing can be realized. The control design requires neither accurate parameters of the output filters nor load measurement. The stability of the transformed systems under the proposed control algorithm can indirectly guarantee the transient bus voltage performance of the original system. Additionally, the high-performance control design is robust, flexible, and reliable. Switch-level simulations under both normal and fault operating conditions demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm. 展开更多

The DC microgrid is connected to the AC utility by parallel bidirectional power converters (BPCs) to import/export large power, whose control directly affects the performance of the grid-connected DC microgrid. Much work has focused on the hierarchical control of the DC, AC, and hybrid microgrids, but little has considered the hierarchical control of multiple parallel BPCs that directly connect the DC microgrid to the AC utility. In this paper, we propose a hierarchical control for parallel BPCs of a grid-connected DC mierogrid. To suppress the potential zero-sequence circulating cm-cent in the AC side among the parallel BPCs and realize feedback linearization of the voltage control, a d-q-O control scheme instead of a conventional d-q control scheme is proposed in the inner current loop, and the square of the DC voltage is adopted in the inner voltage loop. DC side droop control is applied to realize DC current sharing among multiple BPCs at the primary control level, and this induces DC bus voltage deviation. The quantified relationship between the current sharing error and DC voltage deviation is derived, indicating that there is a trade-off between the DC voltage deviation and current sharing error. To eliminate the current sharing error and DC voltage deviation simultaneously, slope-adjusting and voltage-shifting approaches are adopted at the secondary control level. The pro- posed tertiary control realizes precise active and reactive power exchange through parallel BPCs for economical operation. The proposed hierarchical control is applied for parallel BPCs of a grid-connected DC microgrid and can operate coordinately with the control for controllable/uncontrollable distributional generation. The effectiveness of the proposed control method is verified by corresponding simulation tests based on Matlab/Simulink, and the performance of the hierarchical control is evaluated for prac- tical applications. 展开更多

This paper proposes a design and control approach to parallel resonant converter(PRC) based battery chargers. The proposed approach is particularly suitable for the constant-current constant-voltage(CC-CV)charging method, which is the most commonly utilized one.Since the PRC is operated at two different frequencies for each CC and CV charging modes, this approach eliminates the need for complicated control techniques such as the frequency-control and phase-shift-control.The proposed method not only simplifies the design and implementation processes of the converter unit but also simplifies the design of output filter configuration and decreases the number of the required components for the control of the charger. The proposed method is confirmed by two experimental setups. The results show that the designed charger circuit ensured a very stable constant current in CC charging phase, where the charging current is fixed to 1.75 A.Although a voltage increase in CV phase is observed, the charger circuit is able to decrease the charging current to 0.5 A in CV phase, as depicted in battery data-sheet.The efficiency of the charger is figured out to be in the range of 86%-93% in the first setup, while it is found to be in the range of 78%-88% in the second setup, where a high frequency transformer is employed. 展开更多
