A Study on the Values and Strategies of English Picture Book Reading for Improving Pupils’ English Reading Literacy

Reading is one of the core skills in English learning.It is indispensable for EFL learners to develop good English reading literacy in primary schools.English picture books are consistent with pupils’cognitive and thinking modes,which is valuable to improve their English reading literacy.However,at present,most Chinese pupils have some problems in English reading.The paper aims at analyzing the current problems in Chinese pupils’English reading and digging out the values and strategies of English picture book reading,so as to stimulate their reading interests,cultivate their intercultural awareness,and improve their English reading literacy.

Study on the Influencing Factors of L2 Reading Ability and Its Regulation Strategies

This paper takes college students as research subjects to investigate the factors affecting L2 Reading ability and their regulation strategies through scale surveys.The findings are as follows:(1)Linguistic factors have significant impacts on L2 Reading ability,and the influence of non-linguistic factors,such as non-intellectual factors and cultural background knowledge,is also important;and(2)flexible use of reading regulation strategies according to the learning conditions(such as the information extraction strategy,the metacognitive reading regulation strategy,and the interactive reading strategy)can effectively improve learners’L2 Reading ability.The findings of this study have important theoretical and practical value for improving L2 learners’Reading ability.

Literary Reading Intervention Strategies for Adolescents with Depression

Teenagers are in the special stage of physical and mental development,and their psychological problems show complex and diverse characteristics.Depression is the most common mental disorder among teenagers.Literary reading has a certain intervention effect on depression and can be used as an important strategy for psychological intervention.Reading literature works can help teenagers understand and discover themselves from different angles,and then realize the self-recognition and intervention of depression.This paper mainly discusses the causes of depression in teenagers and the intervention principles and strategies of literary reading on depression,aiming to alleviate and eliminate the depressive symptoms of teenagers through literary reading and promote their physical and mental health development.

Developing Learners' Reading Strategies in English Classes

In foreign language learning, many learners seem to have difficulty in reading accurately and efficiently so as to understand as much of a text as one needs in order to achieve one’s purpose. To help learners become more effective readers, it is crucial to develop relevant reading strategies in the light of their needs. This essay is intended to exploit how to help learners improve their second or foreign language reading strategies on the basis of a general understanding of the relevant literature. Holding the belief that the strategies chosen for the learners to be developed in the classroom should suit their needs, this essay mainly focuses on developing the learners’ top-down reading strategies such as predicting topics, which seems particularly relevant to the group of learners that I am familiar with. In an attempt to exemplify how to help learners of English develop their relevant reading strategies in English classes, a description of classroom procedures will be offered.

The Application of Metacognitive Strategies in PE & Art Majors'College English Reading Practice

During the active process of reading, strategies involved will affect the process of reading comprehension, and the reader should intentionally regulate and control the reading process and adopt appropriate strategies to solve the problems during it. The purpose of this paper is to determine the use of metacognitive strategies in reading by the PE & Art majors through questionnaire. According to the result of the questionnaire, the PE & Art majors do use some metacognitive strategies in their reading, while nearly half of them do not often use metacognitive strategies in their reading. For this phenomenon, the author gives some constructive suggestions for the English majors about how to apply the metacognitive strategies in their reading: 1) preparing and planning in pre-reading; 2) monitoring and self-questioning in while-reading; 3) evaluating and adjusting in post-reading.

On the Factors Hindering Chinese College Students＇ English Reading and Possible Strategies

Chinese college students reading in a foreign language seem to read with less understanding and at a considerably slower speed. The factors that hinder Chinese college students' English reading were analyzed at the lexical level, the syntactic level,and the discourse level. And then, several reading strategies were recommended to overcome such reading difficulties.

This paper is a study of influence of metacognitive strategies on reading and listening through 196 non-English majors' metacognitive strategies used in CET-4. The major findings are that metacognitive strategies have a great infulence on English reading and listening achievement and the effects of metacognitive strategies on English achievement are greater. In addition, each individual metacognitive strategy plays different roles in the process of reading and listening.

Use of English Reading Strategies by Science-oriented College Students in Relation to Gender Difference

The purpose of this study was to investigate the use of English reading strategies by the science-oriented college students in relation to their genders. The participants were 401 first year science-oriented college students. A reading questionnaire was used to collect the data. The results showed that the male and female students existed significantly difference in reading strategy use, with female students employed reading strategies significantly more frequently than did the male students.

A Research on Middle School Students'English Reading Obstacles and Strategies

English reading,a key procedure of English learning and teaching in middle school,is an essential way of getting information from the globe and communicating with others.Therefore,efficient comprehension on reading materials will directly serve for accepting the information.And it is extremely important for middle school students to acquire certain reading ability.At present,great attention has been paid to the course of reading in the instruction of English by the Chinese Education Department.But middle school students'read ing ability is still much lower than the target they should reach because of a set of existing obstacles that prevent them from being effective English readers.What are these obstacles?
