The factors controlling the spacing and morphological development of its deep thrust faults, as well as the formation mechanism of shallow normal faults, remain unclear. Meanwhile, the factors affecting the continuity of plane faults must be comprehensively discussed. Clarifying the development characteristics and deformation mechanisms of the Makran accretionary wedge is crucial to effectively guide the exploration of gas hydrate deposits in the area. This study aims to interpret seismic data to identify typical structures in the Makran accretionary wedge, including deep imbricate thrust faults, shallow and small normal faults, wedge-shaped piggyback basins, mud diapirs with fuzzy and disorderly characteristics of reflection, décollements with a northward tilt of 1° – 2°, and large seamounts. Physical simulation-based experiments are performed to comprehensively analyze the results of the plane, section, and slices of the wedge. Results reveal that the distances between and shapes of thrust faults in the deep parts of the Makran accretionary wedge are controlled by the bottom décollement. The uplift of the thrust fault-related folds and the upwelling of the mud diapirs primarily contribute to the formation of small normal faults in the shallow part of the area. The mud diapirs originate from plastic material at the bottom, while those that have developed in the area near the trench are larger. Seamounts and mud diapirs break the continuity of fault plane distribution.展开更多

The parallel cuts of the parallel and perpendicular electric field have bipolar and unipolar structures in these electron holes, respectively. In this study, two-dimensional (2D) electromagnetic PIC simulations are performed in the x - y plane to investigate the evolution of the electron two-stream instability, with the emphasis on the magnetic structures associated with these electron holes in different plasma conditions. In the simulations, the background magnetic field (Bo = Boer) is along the x direction. In weakly magnetized plasma (Ωe 〈ωpe, where Ωe and ωpe are the electron gyrofrequency and electron plasma frequency, respectively), several 2D electron holes are formed. In these 2D electron holes, the parallel cut of the fluctuating magnetic field δBx and δBz has unipolar structures, while the fluctuating magnetic field δBy has bipolar structures. In strongly magnetized plasma (Ωe 〉 ωpe), several quasi-lD electron holes are formed. The electrostatic whistler waves with streaked structures of Ey are excited. The fluctuating mag- netic field δBx and δBz also have streaked structures. The fluctuating magnetic field δBx and δBy are produced by the current in the z direction due to the electric field drift of the trapped elec- trons, while the fluctuating magnetic field δBz can be explained by the Lorentz transformation of a moving quasielectrostatic structure. The influences of the initial temperature anisotropy on the magnetic structures of the electron holes are also analyzed. The electromagnetic whistler waves are found to be excited in weakly magnetized plasma. However, they do not have any significant effects on the electrostatic structures of the electron holes.展开更多

文摘The thermal evolution of the Earth’s interior and its dynamic effects are the focus of Earth sciences. However, the commonly adopted grid-based temperature solver is usually prone to numerical oscillations, especially in the presence of sharp thermal gradients, such as when modeling subducting slabs and rising plumes. This phenomenon prohibits the correct representation of thermal evolution and may cause incorrect implications of geodynamic processes. After examining several approaches for removing these numerical oscillations,we show that the Lagrangian method provides an ideal way to solve this problem. In this study,we propose a particle-in-cell method as a strategy for improving the solution to the energy equation and demonstrate its effectiveness in both one-dimensional and three-dimensional thermal problems,as well as in a global spherical simulation with data assimilation. We have implemented this method in the open-source finite-element code CitcomS,which features a spherical coordinate system, distributed memory parallel computing, and data assimilation algorithms.

文摘Accurate measurements of the radon exhalation rate help identify and evaluate radon risk regions in the environment.Among these measurement methods, the closed-loop method is frequently used. However, traditional experiments are insufficient or cannot analyze the radon migration and exhalation patterns at the gas–solid interface in the accumulation chamber. The CFD-based technique was applied to predict the radon concentration distribution in a limited space, allowing radon accumulation and exhalation inside the chamber intuitively and visually. In this study, three radon exhalation rates were defined, and two structural ventilation tubes were designed for the chamber. The consistency of the simulated results with the variation in the radon exhalation rate in a previous experiment or analytical solution was verified. The effects of the vent tube structure and flow rate on the radon uniformity in the chamber;permeability, insertion depth, and flow rate on the radon exhalation rate and the effective diffusion coefficient on back-diffusion were investigated.Based on the results, increasing the inser-tion depth from 1 to 5 cm decreased the effective decay constant by 19.55%,whereas the curve-fitted radon exhalation rate decreased(lower than the initial value)as the deviation from the initial value increased by approximately 7%.Increasing the effective diffusion coefficient from 2.77×10^(-7) to 7.77×10^(-6) m^(2) s^(-1) made the deviation expand from 2.14 to 15.96%.The conclusion is that an increased insertion depth helps reduce leakage in the chamber, subject to notable back-diffusion,and that the closed-loop method is reasonably used for porous media with a low effective diffusion coefficient in view of the back-diffusion effect. The CFD-based simulation is expected to provide guidance for the optimization of the radon exhalation rate measurement method and, thus, the accurate measurement of the radon exhalation rate.

文摘Porous materials are widely used in the field of protection because of their excellent energy absorption characteristics. In this work,a series of polyurethane microscopic models are established and the effect of porosity on the shock waves is studied with classical molecular dynamics simulations.Firstly, shock Hugoniot relations for different porosities are obtained, which compare well with the experimental data. The pores collapse and form local stress wave, which results in the complex multi-wave structure of the shock wave. The microstructure analysis shows that the local stress increases and the local velocity decreases gradually during the process of pore collapse to complete compaction. Finally,it leads to stress relaxation and velocity homogenization. The shock stress peaks can be fitted with two exponential functions, and the amplitude of attenuation coefficient decreases with the increase of density.Besides, the pore collapse under shock or non-shock are discussed by the entropy increase rate of the system. The energy is dissipated mainly through the multiple interactions of the waves under shock. The energy is dissipated mainly by the friction between atoms under non-shock.

文摘The Makran accretionary wedge has the smallest subduction angle among any accretionary prism in the world. Seamounts and mud diapirs break the continuity of fault plane distribution.

文摘Graphene aerogel(GA),as a novel solid material, has shown great potential in engineering applications due to its unique mechanical properties. In this study, the mechanical performance of GA under high-velocity projectile impacts is thoroughly investigated using full-atomic molecular dynamics(MD)simulations. The study results show that the porous structure and density are key factors determining the mechanical response of GA under impact loading.Specifically, the impact-induced penetration of the projectile leads to the collapse of the pore structure, causing stretching and subsequent rupture of covalent bonds in graphene sheets. Moreover, the effects of temperature on the mechanical performance of GA have been proven to be minimal, thereby highlighting the mechanical stability of GA over a wide range of temperatures. Finally, the energy absorption density(EAD)and energy absorption efficiency(EAE)metrics are adopted to assess the energy absorption capacity of GA during projectile penetration. The research findings of this work demonstrate the significant potential of GA for energy absorption applications.

文摘The effects of impurities on ion temperature gradient(ITG)driven turbulence transport in tokamak core plasmas are investigated numerically via global simulations of microturbulence with carbon impurities and adiabatic electrons. The simulations use an extended fluid code(ExFC)based on a four-field gyro-Landau-fluid(GLF)model.The multispecies form of the normalized GLF equations is presented, which guarantees the self-consistent evolution of both bulk ions and impurities. With parametric profiles of the cyclone base case,well-benchmarked ExFC is employed to perform simulations focusing on different impurity density profiles. For a fixed temperature profile,it is found that the turbulent heat diffusivity of bulk ions in a quasi-steady state is usually lower than that without impurities, which is contrary to the linear and quasilinear predictions. The evolutions of the temperature gradient and heat diffusivity exhibit a fast relaxation process, indicating that the destabilization of the outwardly peaked impurity profile is a transient state response.Furthermore, the impurity effects from different profiles can obviously influence the nonlinear critical temperature gradient, which is likely to be dominated by linear effects. These results suggest that the improvement in plasma confinement could be attributed to the impurities, most likely through adjusting both heat diffusivity and the critical temperature gradient.

文摘Flash boiling atomization(FBA)is a promising approach for enhancing spray atomization, which can generate a fine and more evenly distributed spray by increasing the fuel injection temperature or reducing the ambient pressure. However, when the outlet speed of the nozzle exceeds 400 m/s,investigating high-speed flash boiling atomization(HFBA)becomes quite challenging. This difficulty arises fromthe involvement ofmany complex physical processes and the requirement for a very fine mesh in numerical simulations. In this study,an HFBA model for gasoline direct injection(GDI)is established. This model incorporates primary and secondary atomization,as well as vaporization and boilingmodels,to describe the development process of the flash boiling spray.Compared to lowspeed FBA,these physical processes significantly impact HFBA.In this model, the Eulerian description is utilized for modeling the gas,and the Lagrangian description is applied to model the droplets, which effectively captures the movement of the droplets and avoids excessive mesh in the Eulerian coordinates.Under various conditions, numerical solutions of the Sauter mean diameter(SMD)for GDI show good agreement with experimental data, validating the proposed model’s performance.Simulations based on this HFBA model investigate the influences of fuel injection temperature and ambient pressure on the atomization process.Numerical analyses of the velocity field, temperature field, vapor mass fraction distribution, particle size distribution, and spray penetration length under different superheat degrees reveal that high injection temperature or low ambient pressure significantly affects the formation of small and dispersed droplet distribution. This effect is conducive to the refinement of spray particles and enhances atomization.

文摘As an important lightning protection device in substations, lightning rods are susceptible to vibration and potential structural damage under wind loads. In order to understand their vibration mechanism,it is necessary to conduct flow analysis. In this study, numerical simulations of the flow field around a 330 kV cylindrical lightning rod with different diameters were performed using the SST k-ωmodel.The flow patterns in different segments of the lightning rod at the same reference wind speed(wind speed at a height of 10 m)and the flow patterns in the same segment at different reference wind speeds were investigated. The variations of lift coefficient, drag coefficient, and vorticity distribution were obtained. The results showed that vortex shedding phenomena occurred in all segments of the lightning rod,and the strength of vortex shedding increased with decreasing diameter. The vorticity magnitude and the root mean square magnitudes of the lift coefficient and drag coefficient also increased accordingly. The time history curves of the lift coefficient and drag coefficient on the surface of the lightning rod exhibited sinusoidal patterns with a single dominant frequency. For the same segment,as the wind speed increased in a certain range, the root mean square values of the lift coefficient and drag coefficient decreased, while their dominant frequencies increased. Moreover, there was a proportional relationship between the dominant frequencies of the lift coefficient and drag coefficient. The findings of this study can provide valuable insights for the refined design of lightning rods with similar structures.

文摘Fluid-structure-particle interactions in three spatial dimensions happen in many environmental and engineering flows. This paper presents the parallel algorithms for the hybrid diffuse and sharp interface immersed boundary(IB)method developed in our previous work. For the moving structure modeled using the sharp interface IB method,a recursive box method is developed for efficiently classifying the background grid nodes. For the particles modeled using the diffuse interface IB method,a‘master-slave’approach is adopted. For the particle-particle interaction(PPI)and particle-structure interaction(PSI),a fast algorithm for classifying the active and inactive Lagrangian points, which discretize the particle surface,is developed for the‘dry’contact approach. The results show that the proposed recursive box method can reduce the classifying time from 52seconds to 0.3 seconds.Acceptable parallel efficiency is obtained for cases with different particle concentrations.Furthermore, the lubrication model is utilized when a particle approaches a wall, enabling an accurate simulation of the rebounding phenomena in the benchmark particle-wall collision problem. At last, the capability of the proposed computational framework is demonstrated by simulating particle-laden turbulent channel flows with rough walls.

文摘A chemo-mechanical model is developed to investigate the effects on the stress development of the coating of polycrystalline Ni-rich LiNixMnyCo_(z)O_(2)(x≥0.8)(NMC)particles with poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene)(PEDOT).The simulation results show that the coating of primary NMC particles significantly reduces the stress generation by efficiently accommodating the volume change associated with the lithium diffusion, and the coating layer plays roles both as a cushion against the volume change and a channel for the lithium transport, promoting the lithium distribution across the secondary particles more homogeneously.Besides, the lower stiffness, higher ionic conductivity, and larger thickness of the coating layer improve the stress mitigation. This paper provides a mathematical framework for calculating the chemo-mechanical responses of anisotropic electrode materials and fundamental insights into how the coating of NMC active particles mitigates stress levels.

文摘Reconnection electric field is a key element of magnetic reconnection. It quantifies the change of magnetic topology and the dissipation of magnetic energy. In this work,two-dimensional(2D)particle-in-cell(PIC)simulations are performed to study the growth of the reconnection electric field in the electron diffusion region(EDR)during magnetic reconnection with a guide field. At first,a seed electric field is produced due to the excitation of the tearing-mode instability. Then, the reconnection electric field in the EDR,which is dominated by the electron pressure tensor term, suffers a spontaneous growth stage and grows exponentially until it saturates.A theoretical model is also proposed to explain such a kind of growth. The reconnection electric field in the EDR is found to be directly proportional to the electron outflow speed. The time derivative of electron outflow speed is proportional to the reconnection electric field in the EDR because the outflow is formed after the inflow electrons are accelerated by the reconnection electric field in the EDR and then directed away along the outflow direction. This kind of reinforcing process at last leads to the exponential growth of the reconnection electric field in the EDR.

文摘Previous electrostatic particle-in-cell (PIC) simulations have pointed out that elec- tron phase-space holes (electron holes) can be formed during the nonlinear evolution of the electron two-stream instability. However, they do not have any significant effects on the electrostatic structures of the electron holes.

文摘By performing one-dimensional particle-in-cell simulations, the nonlinear effects of electronacoustic(EA)waves are investigated in a multispecies plasma, whose constituents are hot electrons, cold electrons, and beam electrons with immobile neutralized positive ions.Numerical analyses have identified that EA waves with a sufficiently large amplitude tend to trap cold electrons.Because EA waves are dispersive, where the wave modes with different wavenumbers have different phase velocities, the trapping may lead to the nlixing of cold electrons. The cold electrons finally get thermalized or heated. The investigation also shows that the excited EA waves give rise to a broad range of wave frequencies, which may be helpful for understanding the broadband-electrostatic-noise spectrum in the Earth's auroral region.

文摘Explicit structure-preserving geometric particle-in-cell(PIC)algorithm in curvilinear orthogonal coordinate systems is developed. The work reported represents a further development of the structure-preserving geometric PIC algorithm achieving the goal of practical applications in magnetic fusion research. The algorithm is constructed by discretizing the field theory for the system of charged particles and electromagnetic field using Whitney forms, discrete exterior calculus, and explicit non-canonical symplectic integration. In addition to the truncated infinitely dimensional symplectic structure, the algorithm preserves exactly many important physical symmetries and conservation laws, such as local energy conservation, gauge symmetry and the corresponding local charge conservation. As a result, the algorithm possesses the long-term accuracy and fidelity required for first-principles-based simulations of the multiscale tokamak physics. The algorithm has been implemented in the Sym PIC code, which is designed for highefficiency massively-parallel PIC simulations in modern clusters. The code has been applied to carry out whole-device 6 D kinetic simulation studies of tokamak physics.A self-consistent kinetic steady state for fusion plasma in the tokamak geometry is numerically found with a predominately diagonal and anisotropic pressure tensor. The state also admits a steady-state subsonic ion flow in the range of 10 km s-1,agreeing with experimental observations and analytical calculations Kinetic ballooning instability in the self-consistent kinetic steady state is simulated. It is shown that high-n ballooning modes have larger growth rates than low-n global modes, and in the nonlinear phase the modes saturate approximately in 5 ion transit times at the 2%level by the E×B flow generated by the instability. These results are consistent with early and recent electromagnetic gyrokinetic simulations.
