Recent studies highlight the strong correlation between infectious diseases and the development of neuropsychiatric disorders.In this editorial,we comment on the article“Anti-infective therapy durations predict psych...Recent studies highlight the strong correlation between infectious diseases and the development of neuropsychiatric disorders.In this editorial,we comment on the article“Anti-infective therapy durations predict psychological stress and laparoscopic surgery quality in pelvic abscess patients”by Zhang et al,published in the recent issue of the World Journal of Psychiatry 2023;13(11):903-911.Our discussion highlighted the potential consequences of anxiety,depression,and psychosis,which are all linked to bacterial,fungal,and viral infections,which are relevant to the impact of inflammation on the sequelae in mental health as those we are observing after the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic.We focus specifically on the immune mechanisms triggered by inflammation,the primary contributor to psychiatric complications.Importantly,pathophysiological mechanisms such as organ damage,post-injury inflammation,and infectioninduced endocrine alterations,including hypocortisolism or autoantibody formation,significantly contribute to the development of chronic low-grade inflammation,promoting the emergence or development of psychiatric alterations in susceptible individuals.As inflammation can have long-term effects on patients,a multidisciplinary treatment plan can avoid complications and debilitating health issues,and it is crucial to recognize and address the mental health implications.展开更多
Objective Pelvic inflammatory disease(PID)is one of the most common gynaecological diseases.Here,this thesis aims to investigate the therapeutic effects of Prunella vulgaris L.oil on the PID by using metabolomics base...Objective Pelvic inflammatory disease(PID)is one of the most common gynaecological diseases.Here,this thesis aims to investigate the therapeutic effects of Prunella vulgaris L.oil on the PID by using metabolomics based on gas chromatographymass spectrometry(GC-MS)to address this challenge.Methods First,measurements of pro-inflammatory cytokines and histological analysis of the uterus were conducted to validate the successful generation of a PID rat model.Furthermore,the volatile oil from Prunella vulgaris L.was administered to treat PID rats.Serum samples were collected before and after treatment and analyzed by GC-MS to generate metabolite profiles for each sample.The information generated from the qualitative and quantitative analysis of these metabolites was applied to distinguish between the PID model and normal control groups.Results Some metabolites,such as acetic acid,succinic acid,glyceric acid,(R*,S*)-3,4-dihydroxybutanoic acid,3-hydroxyphenylacetic acid,D-ribose and myo-inositol showed a higher contribution in the classification model;thus,they can be considered as potential biomarkers.Furthermore,the therapeutic effect of the volatile oil extracted from Prunella vulgaris L.could also be visualized using GC-MS-based metabolomics.Conclusions The results show that metabolomics studies are invaluable for disease diagnosis and therapeutic effect estimation.展开更多
As a Chinese medicinal plant,Smilax china is traditionally used in the treatment of pelvic inflammatory disease(PID).Flavonoids have been identified as the anti-inflammatory bioactive fraction.However,the high content...As a Chinese medicinal plant,Smilax china is traditionally used in the treatment of pelvic inflammatory disease(PID).Flavonoids have been identified as the anti-inflammatory bioactive fraction.However,the high content of total flavonoids has not been extracted from S.china.The therapeutic effects and mechanisms of total flavonoids are still unknown.In the present study,we aimed to obtain the effective parts of flavonoids in S.china,and elucidate the mechanism of action on PID.The anti-inflammatory effect was evaluated on phenol mucilage-induced pelvic inflammation in rats.This was the first time that total flavonoids in high concentration(up to 55.6%)were obtained in S.china.A total of 15 compounds were separated and identified by NMR,and the total flavonoids were detected with HPLC.TFSC caused a reduction in serum levels of IL-6 and IL-1β.These results suggested that TFSC had a significant anti-PID effect,probably due to inhibition of the inflammatory reaction.展开更多

文摘目的探讨红藤败酱汤加减治疗慢性盆腔炎(chronic pelvic inflammatory disease,CPID)患者的临床疗效。方法选取2020年7月至2022年7月龙口市中医医院收治的72例CPID患者作为研究对象,采用随机数字表法分为对照组与观察组,每组36例。对照组采用西医常规治疗,观察组采用红藤败酱汤加减治疗。比较两组中医证候积分、血清炎症因子[WBC、C反应蛋白(C-reactive protein,CRP)、白细胞介素-2(interleukin-2,IL-2)]、生命质量综合评定问卷(generic quality of life inventory 74,GQOLI-74)评分、T淋巴细胞亚群、症状改善时间、临床疗效。结果治疗后,观察组下腹疼痛、带下异常、神疲乏力积分均低于对照组,差异有统计学意义(P<0.05)。治疗后,观察组WBC、CRP、IL-2水平均低于对照组,差异有统计学意义(P<0.05)。治疗后,观察组心理功能、社会功能、躯体功能评分均高于对照组,差异有统计学意义(P<0.05)。治疗后,观察组CD4+、CD3+水平均高于对照组,CD8+水平低于对照组,差异有统计学意义(P<0.05)。观察组白带恢复正常时间、下腹坠胀消失时间、盆腔肿块消失时间、腰骶疼痛消失时间均短于对照组,差异有统计学意义(P<0.05)。观察组治疗总有效率高于对照组,差异有统计学意义(P<0.05)。结论红藤败酱汤加减治疗CPID效果显著,能增强患者免疫功能,减轻炎症状况,尽快改善患者不适症状,提高其生命质量,值得临床推广应用。
