The poor and unfriendly infrastructure at health facilities is the core challenge for people with physical disabilities in accessing healthcare. This study aimed to explore at what extent the existing infrastructure and design of health facilities in Singida rural district, Tanzania supports people with physical disabilities to access healthcare. Results: The study revealed that there was no signage, entrance area, parking and toilets designated for people with physical disabilities in all health facilities. There was no special seat, examination table/bed and special weight scale for people with physical disabilities in all facilities. Also, the doors were not wide enough to support wheelchair user to maneuver in all health centers and dispensaries. In addition, door handles were not user friendly for wheelchair users. In fact, only the hospital and health centers had wheelchairs while 27 (96.4%) of all dispensaries had no wheelchairs. Furthermore, ramp and pathways were not available in all dispensaries. All health facilities had stairs but the challenge was most of the staircases had no floor located before the steps. These findings call for need of improving health facilities’ infrastructure to accommodate people with physical disabilities and this should be given a priority.展开更多

The purpose was to create structures for IPV (intimate partner violence) work, developing professionals' skills in both tackling IPV and service-user involvement. Five NGOs (non-goverumental organizations) for disabled people were involved. Professionals were trained to ask about IPV and to gainamore in-depth understanding of the issue (including thespecial features relating to disabled people) andof how to intervene. Care pathways, linking both basic and special services, were also modeled. A permanent and regional NEIPV (Network of Excellence in IPV) was established and is coordinated by both the public and third sectors, including Experts by Experience. Strong basic structures and care pathways are needed so that the special needs of disabled people can be recognized. Raising awareness of violence, routine enquiries modified according to the needs of organizations, and simple care pathways are needed--both in the public sector and for NGOs representing the disabled. Information gained through training will not necessarily be transferred into direct practice without a strong commitment from the managerial level. Establishing organizational guidelines is necessary. This will also promote professionals' openness toward user knowledge.展开更多

The well-being of all Australian citizens is measured by the Australia Bureau of Statistics (ABS) using socio-economic indicators. In this study we investigated the importance of non-market benefits derived from ecosystem services for Aboriginal well-being. Through a case study with the Mullunburra-Yidinji people in the Wet Tropics, Queensland, we applied the Millennium Ecosystem Assessment (MA) framework to identify the links between ecosystem services and the MA's six constituents of human well-being. The study demonstrated that cultural and provisioning services were key determinants of community well-being, and these are not currently measured by the ABS. We adapt the MA framework to include the ABS indicators and explore the potential strengths and weaknesses of the approach for measuring the well-being of contemporary remote and rural Aboriginal communities.展开更多

In particular, children, the elderly and mentally challenged people go missing all the time. This paper presents the development of web applications that can provide information and services to both a lost person’s near and dear ones and also people who find the lost person. Using this developed web application, people who have lost a near and dear one can register via their email address and post all the information about the missing person, including photos, in the lost section. People who find someone can also register via their email addresses and post all the information about the found person, including photos, in the found section. There is a search panel where people can search for a lost or found person using their name, age, height, location, skin color, etc. There is also a contact system which can be used to contact the person who has lost or found someone via phone, email, or by connecting with their social media profile. Nowadays, when people lose someone or find someone, they report it to the police, advertise on television or in newspapers, and post it on all social media sites like Facebook and WhatsApp. But this web application provides a faster and enhanced way to find and connect with lost and found people.展开更多
