The present stu...The degeneration of physical function of the aging often causes physical disability. The aging people have difficulties in getting in and out of the compact car, decreasing their chance to go outdoors. The present study is based on observation of six disabled aged users of light to moderate physical disability in moving inside and getting in and out of a car. From the video and interviews, problems the disabled aged people encountered in using compact cars were addressed. To solve the inconvenience and difficulty elderly disabled passengers have in a compact car, a concept design of a welfare vehicle was developed. In the concept welfare vehicle, a big hand bar on the side of the car door that can be controlled with the operation of car door was proposed to help the aging people support their body. Moreover, special enlarged chair, hand grip, and lighting under the rear seat were offered to help the aging people get in and out of the ear. In addition, a hand grip hidden on the ceiling can help the elderly disabled passengers move around inside a compact car.展开更多

Accessibility is a crucial matter and a basic human right for the disabled people in order to join the urban life. For this reason, the physical environment must be set, starting with the planning and design stage, in a form that can satisfy the utility and accessibility requirements of disabled people. One of the most important recent concepts to enable accessible and useful spaces for the disabled is the "universal design". Nowadays, even though there is an increase in the number of scientific publications, meetings and decisions taken, the regulatory process on our current living environment is developing slowly regarding the physical accessibility. At this point, the most important role regarding the handling of social and political paradigms of disability, addressing different users, application of the principals of universal design and creating knowledge in order to increase social awareness belongs to the departments of universities that offer design courses. The subject of the study in this context is to determine the contents and the proportion of the courses (compulsory and elective) related to "universal design and "disability design", which will ensure our living environment to be accessible and independently utilized for everyone, in the course plan of the architecture, interior architecture, urban planning and landscape architecture departments in Turkey.展开更多
This project describes an integral solution to implement a module-based platform for the control of all the automated systems inside a house and a remote control of the entrance access to this house. A biometrical acc...This project describes an integral solution to implement a module-based platform for the control of all the automated systems inside a house and a remote control of the entrance access to this house. A biometrical access based on the hand veins has been used with a complete local and remote access control system. A technologically ergonomic way to control the house, as well as some biological signal monitoring has also been developed. This has been done by knowing the physical restrictions of the collective who will live in the house. A set of different sensors will control this operation. In order to control all the home automated systems coordinate the whole platform using the TV remote. This project will implement the OSGI standard. This implementation should ensure the system scalability in terms of including new hardware. In addition, a ZibBee networking system has been developed to enable communication between all the sensors, systems and the central processor.展开更多
