AIM: To validate the first third-person-rated measure assessing combat-related peritraumatic stress symptoms and evaluate its psychometric properties and war-zone applicability.METHODS: The valid assessment of peritraumatic symptoms in the theater of military operations represents a significant challenge in combat-related, mental health research, which mainly relies on retrospective, subjective self-report ratings. This longitudinal observational study used data from actively deployed troops to correlate third-person observer ratings of deployment peritraumatic behaviors [Peritraumatic Behavior Questionnaire- Observer Rated(PBQ-OR)] collected on a bimonthly basis with post-deployment(1-wk follow-up) ratings of the previously validated PBQ self-rate version(PBQ-SR), and(3-mo follow-up) clinician assessed and self-report posttraumatic stress disorder(PTSD) symptoms(Clinician Administered PTSD Scale, PTSD Checklist). Cronbach's alpha(α) and correlation coefficients were calculated to assess internal reliability and concurrent validity respectively. RESULTS: Eight hundred and sixty male Marines were included in this study after signing informed consents at pre-deployment(mean age 23.2 ± 2.6 years). Although our findings were limited by an overall sparse return rate of PBQ-OR ratings, the main results indicate satisfactory psychometric properties with good internal consistency for the PBQ-OR(α = 0.88) and high convergent and concurrent validity with 1-wk post-deployment PBQSR ratings and 3-mo posttraumatic stress symptoms. Overall, later PBQ-OR report date was associated with higher correlation between PBQ-OR and postdeployment measures. Kappa analysis between PBQOR and PBQ-SR single items, showed best agreement in questions relating of mortal peril, desire for revenge, and experience of intense physical reactions. Logistic regression demonstrated satisfactory predictive validity of PBQ-OR total score with respect to PTSD caseness(OR = 1.0513; 95%CI: 1.011-1.093; P = 0.02).CONCLUSION: Since no comparable tools have been developed, PBQ-OR could be valuable as real-time screening tool for earlier detection of Service Members at risk. 展开更多

Introduction: In December 2021, Beninese soldiers were victims of armed terrorist attacks. This study aims to determine the psychological impact of the events experienced on the victims in order to better prevent post-traumatic stress disorder. Materials and methods: This is a descriptive cross-sectional study conducted from December 13 to 14, 2021, i.e. 12 days after the oldest event and 4 days after the most recent. The experience of the event was assessed with the Peritraumatic Distress Inventory and the Peritraumatic Dissociation Experiences Questionnaire. Symptoms experienced in the hours and days after the event were assessed with the Revised Event Impact Scale. Results: 36 soldiers were included out of the 38 survivors, i.e. 94.73%. They were 51.43% victims of the night assault, 37.14% of the ambush on patrol and 11.43% of the explosion of vehicle on mine, all male. The average age was 31 years with extremes of 25 and 49 years. The 25 - 30 year olds predominated, 52.78%. 100% of soldiers had significant peritraumatic dissociation, of which 94.44% also had significant peritraumatic distress. 100% of the soldiers had manifestations of intrusion, 89% of manifestations of avoidance and 83% of manifestations of hyperexcitation. 88.89% had an index for acute stress including 100% of victims of night assault and vehicle explosion on mine. Conclusion: This study shows a high prevalence of peritraumatic reactions, recognized factors favoring post-traumatic stress disorder, and the interest of their evaluation for medical and psychological help adapted to the victims. 展开更多

The scope of this article is to screen thesymptoms of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) among the professionals of health and public safety securi~ who providedhumanitarian aid fbr the population of Madeira after the 2010 alluvium. It involves a cross-sectional study. The list of life events (LAV) and theperi-traumaticexperiences questionnaire (PTSB)--adult versionwere used for screening symptoms. The participants included 405 professionalson the emergency crews (mean age = 34.51). Most are male (83.5%) and was in his residence (52.8%) at the time of the event. The results showed that there are significant differences between the profession and the response to the event (P 〈 0.001), as well as in relation to Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), being most evident in the group of firemen and military (P 〈 0.001) of developing PTSD.Therefore, the mental health care of the professionals should suggest the vital need for specific training and the prevention of psychological disorders. 展开更多
