We couple a laser-ablated metal target into a molecular beam to produce free atoms. Ions produced from photoionization of the neutral atoms are monitored by a home-built time-of-flight mass spectrometer. Photoionization cross sections of the excited states of Ti I were deduced from the dependence of the ion signal intensity on the laser intensity for photon energies close to the ionization threshold. The values obtained range from 0.2 Mb to 6.0 Mb. No significant isotope-dependence was found from measurements of the photoionization cross sections of ^46Ti, ^47Ti, and ^48Ti. 展开更多

Interference effects on the photoionization cross sections between two neighbouring atoms are considered based on the coherent scattering of the ionized electrons by the two nuclei when their separation is less than or comparable to the de Broglie wave length of the ionized electrons. As an example, the single atomic nitrogen ionization cross section and the total cross sections of two nitrogen atoms with coherently added photoionization amplitudes are calculated from the threshold to about А (1 А=0.1 nm) of the photon energy. The photoionization cross sections of atomic nitrogen are obtained by using the close-coupling R-matrix method. In the calculation 19 states are included. The ionization energy of the atomic nitrogen and the photoionization cross sections agree well with the experimental results. Based on the R-matrix results of atomic nitrogen, the interference effects between two neighbouring nitrogen atoms are obtained. It is shown that the interference effects are considerable when electrons are ionized just above the threshold, even for the separations between the two atoms are larger than two times of the bond length of N2 molecules. Therefore, in hot and dense samples, effects caused by the coherent interference between the neighbours are expected to be observable for the total photoionization cross sections. 展开更多

The photoionization cross section of the ground state 2s22p 2Po1/2 and the first excited state 2s22p2po1/2 of C II ions are systematically calculated using the fully relativistic R-matrix code DARC. The detailed resonances are presented and identified for the photon energy ranging from threshold (24.38 eV) up to 41.5 eV where the L-shell (2p, 2s) photoionization process is dominant. In the calculations, the relativistic effect and electronic correlation effect are well considered. It is found that the relativistic effect is very important for the light atomic system CII, which accounts for experimentally observed fine structure resonance peaks. A careful comparison is made between the present results and the experimental values, and also other theoretical data available in the literature, showing that good agreement is obtained for the resonance peaks. 展开更多

Accurate expression for photoabsorption (photoionization) cross sections of high density system proposed recently is used to study the photoionization of solid gold. The results show that the present theoretical photoianization cross sections have good agreement both in structure and in magnitude with the experimental results of gold crystal. The studies also indicate that both the real part epsilon' and the imaginary part epsilon' of the complex dielectric constant epsilon and the dielectric influence function of a nonideal system have rich structures in low energy side with a range about 50 eV, and suggest that the influence of particle interactions of surrounding particles with the photoionized particle on the photoionization cross sections can be easily investigated using the dielectric influence function. The electron overlap effects are suggested to be implemented in the future studies to improve the accuracy of theoretical photoionization cross sections of a solid system. 展开更多

We performed R-matrix calculations for photoionization cross sections of the two ground state configuration 3s^23p^5(~2P_(3/2,1/2)~o) levels and 12 excited states of Ni Ⅻ using relativistic Dirac Atomic R-matrix Codes(DARC) across the photon energy range between the ionizations thresholds of the corresponding states and well above the thresholds of the last level of the Ni XIII target ion. Generally, a good agreement is obtained between our results and the earlier theoretical photoionization cross sections. Moreover, we have used two independent fully relativistic GRASP and FAC codes to calculate fine-structure energy levels, wavelengths, oscillator strengths, transitions rates among the lowest 48 levels belonging to the configuration(3s^23p^4, 3s3p^5, 3p^6, 3s^23p^33d) in Ni XIII. Additionally, radiative lifetimes of all the excited states of Ni XIII are presented. Our results of the atomic structure of Ni XIII show good agreement with other theoretical and experimental results available in the literature. A good agreement is found between our calculated lifetimes and the experimental ones. Our present results are useful for plasma diagnostic of fusion and astrophysical plasmas. 展开更多
