SYNTHESIS AND CHARACTERIZATION OF POLY(PHTHALAZINONE ETHER PHOSPHINE OXIDE)S BY N-C COUPLING REACTION

Based on several unsymmetrical, twist, noncoplanar phthalazinone-containing monomers 2a-2e and an active bis（4-fluorophenyl）phenyl phosphine oxide （BFPPO） monomer, a series of novel poly（phthalazinone ether phosphine oxide）s （PPEPO） was synthesized by anhydrous K2CO3 mediated N-C coupling reaction in DMAc. The polymers exhibited good thermal properties with Tgs ranging from 267℃ to 306℃ and 5% weight loss temperatures in nitrogen higher than 430℃, together with high char yield upon prolonged heating at 800℃ （35%-56%）. Moreover, the polymers were readily soluble in common organic solvents, such as N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone, chloroform and m-cresol. These polymers had inherent viscosities in the range of 0.45-0.72 dL/g and could be cast into flexible and colorless films by spin coating or casting approach.

Synthesis and characterization of quaternized poly(phthalazinone ether sulfone ketone)for anion-exchange membrane

Chloromethylated poly（phthalazinone ether sulfone ketone） （CMPPESK） was prepared from poly（phthalazinone ether sulfone ketone） （PPESK） using chloromethyl octyl ethers （CMOE） with lower toxicity as chloromethylated regent. CMPPESK was soluble in N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone （NMP）, N,N-dimethylacetamide （DMAc） and chloroform. Quaternized poly（phthalazinone ether sulfone ketone） （QAPPESK） was prepared from CMPPESK by quaternization. QAPPESK had excellent solvent resistance, which was only partly soluble in sulfuric acid （98%） and swollen in N,N-dimethylformamide （DMF）. The vanadium redox flow battery （V-RFB） using QAPPESK anion-exchange membrane had better performance with 88.3% of overall energy efficiency.

Synthesis and characterization of new soluble poly(aryl ether nitrile)s containing phthalazinone moiety

A series of novel poly（aryl ether nitrile）s containing phthalazinone moiety were synthesized by the nucleophilic displacement reaction of bisphenol-like monomers （I） with 2,6-difluorobenzonitrile. The inherent viscosities ranged from 0.46 to 1.07 dL g^-1. The glass transition temperatures were in the range of 277-295℃, and the temperatures for 10% weight loss in nitrogen atmosphere were found between 495 and 527 ℃. The structures of these resultant polymers were confirmed by FT-IR and 1^H NMR. Moreover, the properties of poly（aryl ether nitrile）s including solubility and crystallinity were also studied.

Synthesis of Novel Poly(aryl ether amide)s Containing the Phthalazinone Moiety

Two novel heterocyclic diamine monomers: 1,2-dihydro-2-(4-aminophenyl)-4-[4-(4-aminophenoxy)phenyl] (2H)phthalazin-1-one and 1,2-dihydro-2-(4-aminophenyl)-4-[4-(4-aminophenoxy)-3,5-dimethylphenyl](2H)phthalazin-1-one were successfully synthesized from readily available heterocyclic bisphenol-like monomers in two steps in high yield. A series of novel poly(aryl ether amide)s containing the phthalazinone moiety were successfully prepared by the direct polymerization of the novel diamines and aromatic dicarboxylic acids using triphenyl phosphite and pyridine as condensing agents.

Synthesis and characterization of novel poly(aryl ether sulfone ketone)s containing phthalazinone and biphenyl moieties

A novel series of poly（aryl ether sulfone ketone）s （PPESKs） containing phthalazinone and biphenyl moieties were prepared by two-step nucleophilic polycondensation reaction. The ^-Mw values of these copolymers were between 38,330 and 67,900. The glass transition temperatures （Tg） and 5% decomposition temperatures were ranged in 253-269 ℃ and 488-500 ℃, respectively, The structures of these copolymers were confirmed by FT-IR and ^1H NMR. Moreover, all the resultant copolymers were amorphous determined by wide angle X-ray diffraction （WAXD）.

Synthesis of Poly(phthalazinone ether ketone) Containing Sodium Sulfonate Groups via Direct Polymerization

Dihydro-4-(4-hydroxyphenyl)(2H)phthalazin-1-one(DHPZ) was sulfonated in con- centrated sulfuric acid. Poly(phthalazinone ether ketone) containing pendant sodium sulfonate group was synthesized from sulfonated and pure 1,2-dihydro-4-(4-hydroxyphenyl)(2H)phthalazin- 1-one, and 4,4-difluorodiphenylketone. The sulfonated monomer and sulfonated polymer were characterized with FT-IR and 1H-NMR.

Synthesis of Methyl-substituted Phthalazinone-based Aromatic Poly(amide imide)s

A series of novel aromatic poly ( amide imide)s containing phthalazinone moieties were prepared from 2-(4-aminophenyl)-4-[3-methyl-4-(4-aminophenoxy)-2,3-phthalazinone-1], a novel diamine 1 with four diimide-dicarboxylic acids by Yamazaki phosphorylation method with the inherent viscosity of 0.36~0.65 dL/g. These polymers had high glass transition temperatures above 300C and they lost 10% weight between 426~475C in N2. The structure of diamine 1 and the polymers was confirmed by IR, 1H NMR and MS. The obtained polymers were readily soluble in polar solvents such as NMP, m-cresol etc. and easily cast into tough, flexible films. The X-ray indicated that they are all amorphous.

Synthesis and Characterization of Poly(ether imide)s Containing m-Methyl and Phthalazinone Moieties

Three novel poly(ether imide)s were synthesized by one-step solution polymerization from 2-(3, 4-dicarboxyl-N-phenyl)-4-(3, 4-dicarboxyl-phenoxyl-4-(2-methyl)-phenyl)-2, 3- phthal-azin-1-one dianhydride and three amines, and characterized. The polymers show good solubility and thermal properties.

Characterization and tribological investigation of self-assembled trimethoxysilyl-functionalized poly(phthalazinone ether ketone)thin films on glass substrates

Trimethoxysilyl-functionalized PPEK（PKGS） films had been designed to serve as wear resistant coatings for silicon surfaces. These surface films were formed by a dip-coating technique applied to self-assembled monolayers（SAMs）.The formation and wetting behavior of PKGS films were characterized by means of contact angle measurement.The friction coefficient of the film prepared is very low（about 0.1）,and the anti-wear behavior is good,with a lack of failure after sliding over 1800 s.

Synthesis of New Soluble Polyarylates Containing Phthalazinone Moiety

A novel diacid chloride, 2-（4-chlorocarboxyphenyl）-4-[3,5-dimethyl-4-（4-chlorocarbo-xylphenoxy）phenyl]-2,3-phthalazin-l-one 2, was synthesized and used for the preparation of polyarylates with inherent viscosities of 0.25-0.37 dL·g^-1. The glass transition temperatures of polyarylates were in the range of 217-272℃. The temperatures at 10% weight loss of polyarylates were found to be in the range of 434-464℃ in nitrogen atmosphere and their structure was confirmed by FTIR and IH NMR. The amorphous polyarylates exhibited excellent solubility in a variety of solvents such as NMP, DMAc, DMF and chloroform.

Synthesis and characterization of poly(phthalazinone ether nitrile) (PPEN)-polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) block copolymers

Block copolymers with different backbone compositions have been prepared by the condensation of dimethylamino terminated poly（dimethylsiloxane） （PDMS） and hydroquinone terminated poly（phthalazinone ether nitrile） （PPEN） in the presence of chlorobenzcne/N-methyl pyrrolidone （NMP） as solvents. The products were characterized by FTIR, ^1H NMR and gel permeation chromatography. Differential scanning calorimetry analysis indicated that the block copolymers showed separated microphase.

SYNTHESIS OF NEW AROMATIC POLY(AMIDE IMIDE)S FROM UNSYMMETRICAL EXTENDED DIAMINE CONTAINING A PHTHALAZINONE MOIETY

The direct polymerization of an unsymmetrical kink non-coplanar heterocyclic diamine (1) with various aromatic bis(trimellitimide)s (2a-e) using triphenyl phosphite and pyridine as condensing agents could generate a series of new aromatic poly(amide imide)s (3a-e) containing the kink non-coplanar phthalazinone heterocyclic units in the polymer main chains with inherent viscosities of 0.58-0.66 dL/g. The polymers are readily soluble in a variety of solvents such as N,N- dimethylformamide, N,N-dimethylacetamide, dimethyl sulfoxide, N-methyl-2-pyrrolidinone, pyridine and m-cresol and can be cast to form flexible and tough films. The glass transition temperatures of polymers (Tg) are in the range of 301-327°C, and the temperatures for 5% weight loss in nitrogen are in the range of 498-521 'C.

Synthesis and Characterization of Poly (ether imide)s Containing Phthalazinone and Isopropyl Moieties

A novel poly(ether imide)s containing phthalazinone and isopropyl moieties derived from 2-(4-aminophenyl)-4-[4-(4-aminophenoxy)phenyl]-phthalazin-1-one and bisphenol-A diphthalic anhydride was synthesized by one-step solution condensation polymerization in nr-cresol. The polymer was characterized by FTIR, NMR, molecular weights, glass transition temperature, thermal degradation temperature and WAXD.

SYNTHESIS AND CHARACTERIZATION OF FLUORINATED POLYAMIDES DERIVED FROM UNSYMMETRICAL DIAMINES CONTAINING THE PHTHALAZINONE MOIETY

A novel unsymmetrical fluorinated diamine monomer with kink non-coplanar heterocyclic structures, 1,2-dihydro- 2-（4-amino-2-trifluoromethyophenyo）-4-[4-（4-amino-2-trifluoromethyophenoxy）phenyo]（2H）phthaoazin-1-oneo was prepared through the nucleophilic substitution reaction of 1-trifluromethyl-2-chloro-5-nitrobenzene with 1,2-dihydro-4-（4- hydroxyphenyl）（2H）phthalazin-l-one in the presence of potassium carbonate, followed by catalytic reduction with hydrazine and Pd-C. A series of new fluorinated polyarnides were synthesized by the phosphorylation polyamidation of the fluorinated diamine with various dicarboxylic acids. The prepared polymers were obtained in quantitative yields with moderately and high inherent viscosities （0.47-0.87 dL/g）. They were all amorphous and readily soluble in various polar aprotic solvents such as N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone （NMP）, N,N-dimethylformamide （DMF）, N,N-dimethylacctamide （DMAc）, pyridine （Py） and m-cresol at room temperature. These fluorinated polyamides have excellent thermal properties. The glass transition temperatures were all above 300℃. The 5% and 10% weight loss temperatures were in the range of 437-466℃ and 482-525℃ in nitrogen atmosphere, respectively.

Synthesis and characterization of trimethoxysilyl-functionalized poly(phthalazinone ether ketone)

A novel alkoxysilyl-functionalized poly(phthalazinone ether ketone) (PPEK) was prepared for the boundary lubricant application in micro-electro-mechanical system (MEMS). The synthesis of functionalized PPEK was started from the hydroxylation of PPEK, then following with the corresponding ring-opening reaction of 3-glycidoxypropyltrimethoxysilane (GPTMS). The structures of the functional PPEK were confirmed by FTIR, 1H NMR, 29Si NMR, and UV–vis spectrum.

Synthesis, Characterization and Properties of Poly(aryl amides) Containing Methoxy Substituted Phthalazinone Moiety

A novel aromatic diamine, 1, 2-dihydro-2-（4-aminophenyl）-4-[3-methoxy-4-（4-aminophenoxy）]-2, 3-phthalazin-l-one （OO-DA） containing aza heterocyclic structure was synthesized from the bisphenol-like monomer in two steps and used for preparing new aromatic polyamides with high inherent viscosity of 0.89-1.03 dL.g^-1. The structures of diamine and polymers obtained were confirmed by MS, PT-IR, WAXD and ^1H-NMR. The synthesized polymers exhibited high glass transition temperature in the range of 281-307℃ and good solubility in polar solvents.

FLUORINATED PHTHALAZINONE-CONTAINING COPOLYIMIDES FOR PASSIVE OPTICAL WAVEGUIDES

A series of fluorinated copolyimides containing phthalazinone moieties were prepared from 2,2-bis(3,4-dicarboxyphenyl)hexafluoropropane dianhydride(6FDA),3,3'4,4'-benzophenone-tetracarboxylic dianhydride(BPDA)and2-(4-aminophenyl)-4-[4-(4-aminophenoxyl)phenyl]-2,3-phthalazin-1-one(DHPZ-2NH_2)for making polymeric opticalwaveguides.The resulting copolymers containing 0-50 mo1% BPDA/DHPZ-2NH_2 show good solubility and are soluble insome organic polar aprotic solvents.The copolyimides also present excellent thermal stability.These polymers possess highglass transition temperature higher than 603 K and high decomposition temperature above 742 K determined by differentialscanning calorimetry and thennogravimetric analysis,respectively,under a nitrogen atmosphere.Their refractive indicescould be controlled by varying the ratio of 6FDA and BPDA in the copolymer from 0.5 to 1.0,and the in-plane refractiveindices(n_(TE))range from 1.6366 to 1.6668 and the out-of-plane refractive indices(n_(TM))from 1.6024 to 1.6280 at 632.8 nm.The polymers birefringence(0.0342-0.0388)is almost independent of the 6FDA content of copolymer,which indicated thatthe phthalazinone-containing copolyimides could be suitable to fabricate optical waveguides possessing a low polarizationdependent loss(PDL).

Synthesis and Characterization of Poly(ether amide)s Containing Phthalazinone Moieties

Soluble aromatic polyamides containing phthalazinone moieties were prepared. Those polymers were obtained from the solution polymerization of a new diacid containing phthalazinone moieties with various diamines. The new monomer, 2-(4-carboxyphenyl)-4-(4- carboxyphenoxy ) phenyl-1 (2H) phthalazinone (Ⅳ) was synthesized in a two-step reaction sequence. 2- (4-Cyanophenyl)-4-(4-cyanophenoxy)phenyl-1 (2H)phthalazinone (Ⅲ) was prepared via the condensation reaction of 4-(4-hydroxyphenyl )-1 (2H) phthalazinone (I) with p-chlorobenzonitrile (Ⅱ). After (Ⅲ) was hydrolyzed, (Ⅳ) was acquired. The synthesized polyamides were characterized by means of viscosimetry, DSC, FT-IR, ~1H NMR and EA. The polyamides have a high glass transition temperature which can be as high as 316 C. The polyamides also have good solubilities in some organic solvents.

SYNTHESIS AND PROPERTIES OF SULFONATED POLY(ETHER KETONE)S CONTAINING 3,5-DIMETHYL PHTHALAZINONE MOIETIES AS PROTON EXCHANGE MEMBRANE MATERIALS

Sulfonated poly（ether ketone）s containing 3,5-dimethyl phthalazinone moieties （SPPEK-DMs） with different degrees of sulfonation （DS） were synthesized via direct polycondensation from 4-（3,5-dimethyl-4-hydroxyphenyl）-2,3- phthalazinone, 4,4＇-difluorobenzophenone and 3,3＇-disulfonate-4,4＇-difluorobenzophenone. The chemical structure of SPPEK-DMs was characterized by FTIR and 1H-NMR. Thermal stability of SPPEK-DMs was characterized by the thermogravimetric analysis. The membranes prepared from SPPEK-DMs exhibited ion exchange capacities （IEC） ranging from 0.93 mmol.g-1 to 1.86 mmol.g-1. Water uptake, swelling, oxidative stability and methanol permeability of SPPEK- DMs membranes were investigated. SPPEK-DMs membranes exhibited high oxidative stability. The methanol permeability values of SPPEK-DMs membranes were in the range 5.15× 10^-8-6.61×10^-7 cm^2.s-1, which was much lower than those of Nafion117. The proton conductivity of SPPEK-DM40 membranes was 1.1 ×10^-2 S.cm^-1 at 70℃.
