Purpose:To investigate the intervention effiects of using traditional Chinese Guqin music and Chinese Calligraphy handwriting(CCH)for patients with Primary Insomnia. Methods:A total of ninety patients were assigned to control group,Guqin group, and calligraphy group for 8 weeks. For 5 days a week, patients’heart rate variability(HRV)and frontal midline(FZ)electroencephalographic signals were recorded in a clinic during interventional period while either listening to Guqin music or writing calligraphy.Patients in the control group remained in rest condition. Results:For the Guqin group, the higher low-frequency-range HRV of coherence was found with marginal significance(P=0.055),and heart rate was significantly reduced(P<0.05)during Hie 4^th week in listening to Guqin music compared to the prerest period. For listening to Guqin music or calligraphy intervention,FZδ,FZθ,and FZα waves in the 8^th week compared to the 0^th week(Pre Intervention)showed a significantly enhanced effect(.P<0.05).Between the three groups, for heart rate and FZδ and FZθ waves, calligraphy group showed significantly increased heart rate than the Guqin group(P<0.001)and the control group(P=0.004);increased FZδ wave than die Guqin group(P<0.001)and the control group(P<0.001);and increased FZθ wave than the Guqin group(P=0.024)and the control group(P=0.008)respectively.Conclusion:Positive intervention effects on 11RV coherence of Guqin music;FZδ,FZθ,and FZα waves of Guqin music and calligraphy proved that Guqin music together with calligraphy training helping to promote physical and mental health, thereby it contributes to the clinical application of TCM Psychology for patients with insomnia syndrome. 展开更多

This article reflects on the need for psychosomatic medicine research in the field of surgery by complementing psychological/psychiatrist approaches with a physician’s(particularly surgeon’s)point of view.Focusing on esthetic/cosmetic surgery,a broader notion of“psychosomatic surgery”is also used regarding plastic surgery as well as examples of vascular and general surgery.Relevant literature reviews are utilized to gain a more comprehensive bio-psycho-social perspective.By providing a deeper understanding in the specialty areas,it makes a case for evidence-based practice by shedding light on psychosomatic medicine research on surgery in the United States with cross-cultural implications. 展开更多

Introducing the human rights perspective into the multi-dimensional governance of human genome editing activities would help define boundaries for the behaviors of stakeholders such as the state, researchers, ethics committee members, and the public, and clarify specific practices of these subjects or entities to meet the requirements of human rights obligations. Based on the human dignity principle, humans must never be used as a means to an end in scientific research. The right to physical and mental health requires the implementation of the principles of informed consent, the primacy of life, and risk control in genome editing, as well as the proper treatment of embryos. The right to privacy corresponds to the confidentiality obligations and non-intervention obligations of relevant parties, and the protection of sensitive personal information points to the special compliance requirements regarding information processing. Differential treatment of genome-edited humans requires objective and reasonable justification, and should also meet the requirements of the proportionality principle. 展开更多

This study examines the effects of parenting styles on the physical and mental health of first-grade students.By statistically analyzing questionnaires from 158 mothers of students and 100 samples,it was found that authoritarian and uninvolved parenting styles were positively associated with physical and mental health, while authoritative and permissive parenting styles were negatively associated. The most prevalent parenting style was authoritative, but authoritarian and nonparticipatory had a greater impact on physical and mental health.Parenting styles were not related to the age of the mother, the number of children, the level of education and employment status. 展开更多

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to examine the effect of Liu-zi-jue exercise on the respiratory symptoms, quality of life, and mental health of patients with mild coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19). METHODS: A single-center randomized controlled trial was conducted with 104 patients with mild COVID-19. The patients were randomly assigned to the Liu-zi-jue plus conventional therapy group and conventional therapy group. The outcome measures included Modified Borg Dyspnea Scale(MBDS) score, Patient Health Questionnaire-9(PHQ-9) score, Fatigue Scale-14(FS-14), respiratory symptoms, and vital signs. Data were collected on the first and sixth days of hospitalization and on the discharge day. RESULTS: Repeated-measures ANOVA revealed that the whole scales all showed a downward trend in the two groups(all P < 0.05). The results of single-group effect suggested that the whole scale score in the intervention group was significantly lower than that in the control group at the sixth day of hospitalization. Compared with the control group, only the MBDS, expectoration, and FS-14 scores showed significantly lower scores at the discharge day(P < 0.001, P = 0.011, P = 0.002). Comparison within the group showed that all the variables were significantly different at the three time points with a decreasing trend(P < 0.05), except for the PHQ-9 and expectoration scores(P = 0.331, 0.052). All patients’ vital signs remained within a stable normal range throughout the hospital stay. CONCLUSION: The results suggested that Liu-zi-jue exercise as a complementary and alternative therapy showed beneficial effects on improving the symptoms(shortness of breath, fatigue, and cough), quality of life, and mental health of patients with mild COVID-19. 展开更多

Objective:The purpose of the current study was to discuss the interrelation among alexithy-mia and negative psychology of nursing personnel and their coping style,so as to provide a theoret-ical basis for better mental health education and psychological intervention for nursing personnel. Methods:A questionnaire survey was administered to 503 nursing personnel sampled from a hospital in Henan Province between May and June 2010 by means of survey instruments of the Toronto Alexithymia Scale-20 Items(TAS-20),the Trait Coping Style Questionnaire(TCSQ),and the General Health Questionnaire(GHQ-20).Results:(1)Alexithymia and a negative coping style had a positive correlation with negative psychology(P<0.01),while a positive coping style had a negative correlation with negative psy-chology(P<0.01).(2)The model fitting indices of coping style as intermediate variables between alexithymia and negative psychology were χ^(2)/df=1.459,RMSEA=0.030,CFI=0.995,IFI=0.995,RFI=0.966,TCI=0.989,and NEI=0.985,indicating a good model fitting.Ninety-nine percent of the total variation of negative psychology could be explained by alexithymia and coping style,of which the indirect effect affecting negative psychology by coping style accounted for 94.59%of the total. Conclusion:Alexithymia and coping style were very important factors for improvement of current mental status of the nursing personnel, especially for a change in negative coping style and selection of good coping style. 展开更多
