In this paper a new physically based method for simulating and animating tornado scene is presented. We first propose a Two-Fluid model based on the physical theory of tornado, then we simulate the flow of tornado and its interaction with surrounding objects such as debris, etc. Taking the scattering and absorption of light by the participating media into account, the illumination effects of the tornado scene can be generated realistically. With the support of graphics hardware, various kinds of dynamic tornado scenes can be rendered at interactive rates.展开更多

Information is inadequate on accessibility to sanitation and hygiene services in homes for the disabled in Nigeria. Purpose: To investigate accessibility to sanitation facilities and handwashing practices among Physically Challenged Persons (PCPs) in selected homes for the disabled in Ibadan. Materials and Methods: Sixty-four consenting PCPs selected from three homes for the disabled in a cross-sectional study were interviewed using questionnaire. Field observation and Focus Group Discussion (FGDs) were conducted using a checklist and FGD guide respectively. Results: Mean age of PCPs was 19.5 ± 6.8 years, and 56.2% were males. All PCPs reported they had water closet toilet-types in their homes, however, 42% reported that toilet usage was difficult because there were no assistive devices. Observation revealed there were no hand rails or ropes to aid in toilet usage. The FGDs revealed water supply for flushing was inadequate. Although 98.4% reported handwashing with soap after toilet use, only 54.7% of the PCPs reported that soap was readily available in their homes/centres. Discussion and Conclusion: Reports by the PCP and field observation showed that there were inadequate assistive devices such as wheelchair ramps, hand rails, or ropes to aid in toilet usage. Sanitation facilities in homes for the disabled should be appropriately built with necessary support to facilitate usage and easy accessibility.展开更多

Simultaneous consideration of variability in physically disabled users, machines and environment of the manufacturing system is extremely complex and generally requires modeling of physically handicapped interaction with the system. Most current modeling either concentrates on the task results or functional disability. The integration of physical constraints with task constraints is far more complex because of functional disability and its extended influence on adjacent body parts. A framework is proposed to integrate the two constraints and thus model the specific behavior of the physical handicapped in virtual environment generated by product specifications. Within the framework a simplified model of physical disabled body is constructed, and body motion is generated based on 3 levels of constraints(effecter constraints, kinematics constraints and physical constraints). The kinematics and dynamic calculations are made and optimized based on the weighting manipulated by the kinematics constraints and dynamic constraints. With object transferring task as example, the model is validated in Jack 6.0. Modelled task motion elements except for squatting and overreaching well matched with captured motion elements. The proposed modeling method can model the complex behavior of the physically handicapped by integrating both task and physical disability constraints.展开更多

However, there is lack comprehensive information in this field. The objective of this study was to assess the lateral abdominal wall at rest and during abdominal drawing-in manoeuvre in adolescent physically active girls in different body positions. Methods: One hundred and forty-four female students, 13–17 years of age, participated in the study. Participants were divided into 2 groups based on a physical activity(PA) statement. Measurements of the thickness of the abdominal muscles at rest and during abdominal drawing-in manoeuvre were made in the supine and standing positions by ultrasound imaging. Results: Compared to the control group, activities of the obliquus internus and transversus abdominis muscles were higher in the regular PA group by 8.9%(95%CI: 3.1–14.7) and 36%(95%CI: 19.1–47.5), respectively. In the RPA group, the transversus abdominis preferential activation ratio was greater by 0.03(95%CI: 0.01–0.04), and the contraction ratio was greater by a mean value of 0.35(95%CI: 0.18–0.46).Conclusion: RPA does not have any effect on the resting thickness of the abdominal muscles in the supine and standing positions. Girls performing RPA have a greater ability to perform an independent activation and greater contractions of the transversus abdominis.展开更多

Affine quantization has the benefit of providing a successful quantization of many important problems including the quantization of half-harmonic oscillators [1], non-renormalizable scalar fields, such as (<i>ϕ</i>12)3 [2] and (<i>ϕ</i>12)3 [3], as well as the quantum theory of Einstein’s general relativity [4]. The features that distinguish affine quantization are emphasized, especially, that affine quantization differs from canonical quantization only by the choice of classical variables promoted to quantum operators. Coherent states are used to ensure proper quantizations are physically correct. While quantization of non-renormalizable covariant scalars and gravity are difficult, we focus on appropriate ultralocal scalars and gravity that are fully soluble while, in that case, implying that affine quantization is the proper procedure to ensure the validity of affine quantizations for non-renormalizable covariant scalar fields and Einstein’s gravity.展开更多

The templating method is widely used to synthesize porous carbons with the controlled pore structure. Among them, preparation of diatomite-templated carbons attracts increasing attention because the obtained carbon has unique developed macropores and exhibits the promising application in adsorption and support of large-sized molecules. Macroporous diatomite-templated carbons are prepared by using additive or inherent solid acid sites of diatomite as the catalyst. The obtained carbons showed tubular and pillared macroporous structures, and had a few mesopores and micropores. However, the carbons possessed the small specific surface area and micropore volume, and thus showed the low adsorption capacity of small-sized molecules, such as methylene blue (MB). In this case, enhancement of porosity, especially microporosity, is necessary.展开更多

They were split into three groups. The first (I) group (n = 48) consisted of endurance sport athletes (skiers, biathlon athletes, middle and long distance runners, rowers and cyclists). The second group (II) (n = 61) was made up of the basketball, football, handball and volleyball players. The third group (III) consisted of combat sports (wrestling and boxing) athletes (n = 18). For establishing the concentration of macro- and microelements in hair, x-ray fluorescence method was applied, using CEP-1 ELVAX (MP.MN 3730-2011) device. The results showed that the hair of the students of Physical Education program, practicing endurance sports possessed more calcium, copper, manganese in comparison to the athletes practicing other sports. Concentration of the main elements--zinc, iron, selenium and chromium in the hair of combat sports representatives was statistically significant. Concentration of potassium was also the greatest in this group of the investigated. However, this group of athletes also possessed the greatest values of toxic elements (plumbum, arsenic) in their hair, comparing to the athletes of endurance sport and players. In their hair, hydrargyrum concentration was significantly greater comparing to the values of this element in players' hair. The greatest mean values of cadmium were established in players' hair.展开更多

We can obtain conditions for a dispersion relationship congruent with the Trans Planckian hypothesis only if we cease trying to match cosmic ray data which is important in investigating Doubly Special Relativity. This leads us to conclude that the Trans Planckian hypothesis is inconsistent with respect to current astrophysical data when modeled by Doubly Special Relativity and needs to be seriously revised. Or the Doubly Special Relativity Hypothesis needs to be abandoned.展开更多

The proposed modeling method can model the complex behavior of the physically handicapped by integrating both task and physical disability constraints.
文摘Background: An impact of regular physical activity(RPA) on the abdominal muscles may be significant when comparing various symptomatic groups. Girls performing RPA have a greater ability to perform an independent activation and greater contractions of the transversus abdominis.
文摘Canonical quantization covers a broad class of classical systems, but that does not include all the problems of interest. While quantization of non-renormalizable covariant scalars and gravity are difficult, we focus on appropriate ultralocal scalars and gravity that are fully soluble while, in that case, implying that affine quantization is the proper procedure to ensure the validity of affine quantizations for non-renormalizable covariant scalar fields and Einstein’s gravity.
文摘Porous carbons are extensively applied in gas separation, water purification, catalytic reaction, and electrochemical processing, attributing to their high specific surface area, large pore volume, chemical inertness, and good mechanical and thermal stability. In this case, enhancement of porosity, especially microporosity, is necessary.

文摘A thermal-responsive photonic crystal material was fabricated by forming an inverse opal nanocomposite hydrogel of poly(N-isopropylacrylamide)(IONHPNIPAm)within the interstitial space of a polystyrene photonic crystal template. In IONHPNIPAm,PNIPAm were physically cross-linked with two kinds of nanoparticles(carbon dots and laponite clays). The integration of carbon dots and laponite clays for physical crosslinking endowed IONHPNIPAm sufficient strength and self-healing property.IONHPNIPAm films can be completely peeled from the substrates to be utilized as an independent photonic crystal material. The structural color and optical diffraction of the IONHPNIPAm exhibits a rapid reversible change in response to external thermal stimuli due to its physical cross-linking feature. Moreover, the IONHPNIPAm shows clear fluorescence due to the introduction of carbon dots, which enables a convenient way for chemical detection(such as the detection of silver ions). This stimuli-responsive photonic crystal materials based on physically cross-linked inverse opal nanocomposite hydrogels with fast response and good mechanical stability are promising for applications in the fields of smart optical detectors,thermal-responsive sensors and chemical detectors.

文摘Background:Physical activity(PA)has substantial health benefits and is important in combatting chronic diseases, which have been associated with elevated levels of advanced glycation endproducts(AGEs).AGEs play a role in the aging process, and an association between PA and AGEs has been reported. We aimed to investigate the relationship between PA and AGE accumulation in a general population and in a population with chronic diseases. Methods:This large cross-sectional population study used data from adult participants in the LifeLines project, with participant information drawn from the LifeLines database as well data from patients with diabetes mellitus or renal and/or cardiovascular diseases.Tissue AGE accumulation was assessed non-invasively by skin-autofluorescence(SAF)using an AGE reader(DiagnOptics Technologies BV,Groningen, the Netherlands).PA was assessed using the short questionnaire to assess health-enhancing physical activity(SQUASH).Multivariate linear regression analyses were adjusted for age, body mass index, sex, and smoking status. Results:Data from 63,452 participants(general population n=59,177,chronic disease n=4275)were analyzed. The general population was significantly younger(43.58±11.77 years, mean±SD)and had significantly lower SAF(1.90±0.42 arbitrary units(AU))compared to the population with chronic disease(age:55.51±12.07 years;SAF:2.27±0.51 AU).In the group with chronic disease, more hours of moderate to vigorous physical activities per week were associated with lower SAF(β=-0.002,95%confidence interval(95%CI):-0.002 to-0.001).For the general population, there was no association between hours of moderate to vigorous activity and SAF(β=3.2×10^(-5),95%CI:0.000-0.001,p=0.742).However,there was an association in the general population between total hours of PA per week and SAF(β=4.2×10^(-4),95%CI:0.000-0.001,p<0.001),but this association was not found in the chronic disease population(β=-3.2×10^(-4),95%CI:-0.001 to 0.000,p=0.347).Conclusion:Our study demonstrates that an inverse relationship exists between PA and AGE accumulation in the population with chronic disease.More hours of moderate to vigorous activity is associated a significantly decreased SAF.More PA is associated a lower SAF,even after for the established predictors(age, body mass index, smoking status, and sex). Our findings could help to promote health and prolong longevity.
文摘The aim of the work is to evaluate the influence of physical activity character on concentration of macro-and microelements in hair of physically active students. 127 students of I-IV year of Physical Education program at Lithuanian University of Educational Sciences participated in the research, aged from 20 to 24. The greatest mean values of cadmium were established in players' hair.
文摘We offer evidence that the Trans Plankian hypothesis about Dark energy is incompatible with necessary and sufficient conditions for solving the cosmic ray problem along the lines presented by Magueijo et al. Or the Doubly Special Relativity Hypothesis needs to be abandoned.

文摘As a critical command center in organisms, the brain can execute multiple intelligent interactions through neural networks, including memory, learning and cognition.Recently,memristive-based neuromorphic devices have been widely developed as promising technologies to build artificial synapses and neurons for neural networks. However, multiple information interactions in artificial intelligence devices potentially pose threats to information security.Herein,a transient form of heterogeneous memristor with a stacked structure of Ag/MgO/SiN_(x)/W is proposed,in which both the reconfigurable resistive switching behavior and volatile threshold switching characteristics could be realized by adjusting the thickness of the SiN_(x)layer.The underlying resistive switching mechanism of the device was elucidated in terms of filamentary and interfacial effects.Representative neural functions, including short-term plasticity(STP),the transformation from STP to long-term plasticity, and integrate-and-fire neuron functions, have been successfully emulated in memristive devices. Moreover, the dissolution kinetics associated with underlying transient behaviors were explored, and the water-assisted transfer printing technique was exploited to build transient neuromorphic device arrays on the water-dissolvable poly(vinyl alcohol)substrate, which were able to formless disappear in deionized water after 10-s dissolution at room temperature. This transient form of memristive-based neuromorphic device provides an important step toward information security reinforcement for artificial neural network applications.
文摘Physical activity and exercise(PAE)improve quality of life and reduce the effects of chronic diseases.Primary care physicians(PCPs)play an important role to encourage PAE in patients. We aim to assess PCPs'current PAE consultation practices and their enablers/barriers in daily clinical practice. We had 64 PCPs(age[35.3±4.7]y,47 women)that completed self-administered questionnaires on PAE consultation practices, training, and confidence levels.PCPs(n=42)also completed the International Physical Activity Questionnaire-Short Form to assess their physical activity(PA)levels. We conducted correlation,one-way analysis of variance and a linear regression to assess the associations between enablers, barriers and PA levels to PAE consultation practices. On average,PCPs consulted on PAE in 49.7%of their daily clinical appointments.Majority of PCPs(70%)strongly agreed that more PAE knowledge were needed to increase consultation practices.Top three barriers related(p<0.001)to practices were lack of PAE education(r=0.47),patients’preference of pharmaceutical interventions(r=0.45)and lack of continuing education in PAE for PCPs(r=0.37).Physically active PCPs(health-enhancing PA levels,n=6)gave significantly more daily consultations in PAE,73.2%±21.9%,compared to inactive PCPs(n=13),37.4%22.8%(p=0.013).In our regression output,PCPs who had higher PA levels consulted more on PAE daily(R^(2)=0.38,p<0.001)while controlling for age. Conclusion,PCPs require more knowledge on PAE and need be physically active themselves to increase PAE consultation for patients in their daily practice.Medical education should consider including more PA and exercise topics that may benefit both physicians and their patients.

文摘This paper describes severe plastic deformation(SPD)procedures, which are utilized to form an ultrafine-grained structure in metallic biomaterials.During the SPD process,a solid material sample is subjected to very high loads without a significant change in sample dimensions. In the present work, the high-pressure torsion(HPT)process,as one of the SPD techniques, which achieves a high degree of deformation and ensures refinement of the microstructure, will be discussed in more detail.Considering that grain size control is accepted as a method to obtain materials with desired characteristics,an overview of the properties of ultrafine-grained titanium-based biomaterials to be used in medicine is given. Moreover, particular attention is dedicated to the influences of HPT process parameters, primarily hydrostatic pressure, and number of revolutions during torsion,on the grain size and physical and mechanical characteristics(modulus of elasticity, microhardness, and tensile properties),corrosion resistance, and biocompatibility of the titanium-based biomaterials.A review of the literature indicates that titanium-based materials obtained by the SPD process show improved mechanical and physical properties without losing biocompatibility and corrosion resistance, which suggests that these methods of obtaining implants are something that should be further developed in the future.
