Phosphorus overenrichment of shallow ponds prevailing in wetlands leads to their eutrophication causing the collapse of those vulnerable habitats.The potential of phosphorus accumulation by periphyton developed on artificial substrata has been investigated in two shallow ponds(Bara?ka and?iroki Rit)in northwest Serbia and compared to the same ability of plankton and metaphyton.The periphyton substrate carrier has been submerged from May to October.Both continuously(CS)and monthly developed(MS)periphyton were sampled.Autotrophic component of all investigated communities has been qualitatively assessed.Maximum accumulation of only 14.7 mg TP/m^(2) was recorded in three-month exposed periphyton CS.MS exposed from July to August reached maximal 12.7 mg TP/m^(2).Plankton community that was characterized by more diverse and abundantly developed algal component was more effective in phosphorus accumulation(0.7 mg/g dry weight)in comparison with dominantly inorganic and diatom-dominated periphyton in Bara?ka.Unstable conditions caused by recent revitalization(dredging organic matter and mud from pond basin—redigging)as well as rapid desiccation of?iroki Rit disabled making an unambiguous conclusion about the efficiency of phosphorus accumulation among different communities,but suggested slight potential of phosphorus harvesting by metaphyton in this pond.Due to the shorter exposure time that brings the reduced risk of unpredictable changes in the ecosystem,as well as the considerable amount of accumulated phosphorus,large-scale application of one-month exposed periphyton developed on artificial substrates would be more advisable for phosphorus harvesting in nutrient affected shallow ponds. 展开更多

Diabetes mellitus(DM) is a widely spread epidemic dis ease that results from the absence of insulin, decreased secretion and/or impaired function. Since DM is a multi factorial disease, the available pharmaceuticals, despite their sensible treatment, target mostly one pathway to control hyperglycemia and encounter several side effects. Therefore, new therapeutic paradigms aim to hit several pathways using only one agent. Tradition ally, antidiabetic plants and/or their active constituents may fulfill this need. More than 200 species of plants possess antidiabetic properties which were evaluated mostly by screening tests without digging far for the exact mode of action. Searching among the differen literature resources and various database and in view o the above aspects, the present article provides a com prehensive review on the available antidiabetic plants that have been approved by pharmacological and clini cal evaluations, and which their mechanism(s) of ac tion is assured. These plants are categorized according to their proved mode of action and are classified into those that act by inhibiting glucose absorption from in testine, increasing insulin secretion from the pancreasinhibiting glucose production from hepatocytes, or enhancing glucose uptake by adipose and muscle tissues. The current review also highlights those that mimic in their action the new peptide analogs, such as exenatide, liraglutide and dipeptidylpeptidase-4 inhibitors that increase glucagon-like peptide-1 serum concentration and slow down the gastric emptying. 展开更多

A strategy of using phyto-phospholipid complexes represents a promising approach to increase the oral bioavailability of active constituents, which is consist of ‘‘label-friendly'phospholipids and active constituents. Hydrogen bond interactions between active constituents and phospholipids enable phospholipid complexes as an integral part. This review provides an update on four important issues related to phyto-phospholipid complexes: active constituents, phospholipids, solvents, and stoichiometric ratios. We also discuss recent progress in research on the preparation, characterization, structural verification, and increased bioavailability of phyto-phospholipid complexes. 展开更多

Objective To investigate the protective effect of 17β-estradiol (E2), peganum harmala extract (PHE) administration and calorie restriction (CR) treatment (60%) on oxidative stress and hepato-toxicity in aged rats. Methods Eighteen months old animals that were treated at the age of 12 months were divided into 4 groups: normal control group with free access to food, E2 treatment group, PHE treatment group and CR treatment group of the food given to control group. Six male rats at the age of 4 months were used as a reference group. Results Aging significantly decreased superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT) and glutathione peroxidase (GPX), and increased lactate deshydrogenase (LDH), gamma-glyiamyl transferase (GGT), pbosphatase alkalines (PAL), aspartate and lactate transaminase (AST and ALT) activities in the liver. Aging also induced an increased lipid peroxidation level, histological changes and a decreased E2 level. However, treatment with E2, PHE, and CR increased 17β-estradiol, and decreased hepatic dysfunction parameters and lipid peroxidation as well as histological changes in the liver of aged rats. Conclusion The antioxidant and hepatoprotective activity of PHE and CR is possibly attributed to its ability to increase E2 level, which as an antioxidant, acts as a scavenger of ROS. Further studies on the pharmaceutical functions of E2 in males may contribute to its clinical application. 展开更多

Xeno-oestrogens and phyto-oestrogens are alternative ligands for the androgen receptor

The androgen receptor (AR) plays a critical role in prostate cancer development and progression. This study aimed to use a computerized docking approach to examine the interactions between the human AR and phytooestrogens (genistein, daidzein, and flavone) and xeno-oestrogens (bisphenol A, 4-nonylphenol, dichlorodiphenyl trichloroethane [DDT], diethylstilbestrol [DES]). The predicted three-dimensional structure of AR and androgens was established using X-ray diffraction. The binding of four xeno-oestrogens and three phyto-oestrogens to AR was analysed. The steroids estradiol and dihydrotestosterone (DHT) were used as positive controls and thyroxine as negative control. All the ligands shared the same binding site except for thyroxine. The endogenous hormones DHT and 17β-oestradiol showed the strongest binding with the lowest affinity energy (〈 -10 kcal mol-1). All three phyto- oestrogens and two xeno-oestrogens (bisphenol A and DES) showed strong binding to AR. The affinities offlavone, genistein, and daidzein were between -8.8 and -8.5 kcal mol 1, while that of bisphenol A was -8.1 kcal mol-l and DES -8.3 kcal mol-1. Another two xeno-oestrogens, 4-nonylphenol and DDT, although they fit within the binding domain of AR, showed weak affinity (-6.4 and -6.7 kcal mol 1, respectively). The phyto-oestrogens genistein, daidzein and flavone, and the xeno-oestrogens bisphenol A and DES can be regarded as androgenic effectors. The xenooestrogens DDT and 4-nonylphenol bind only weakly to AR. 展开更多

A one-year field study was conducted to determine the conversion ratio of phytoplankton biomass carbon (Phyto-C) to chlorophyll-a (Chl-a) in Jiaozhou Bay,China.We measured suspended particulate organic carbon (POC) and phytoplankton Chl-a samples collected in surface water monthly from March 2005 to February 2006.The temporal and spatial variations of Chl-a and POC concentrations were observed in the bay.Based on the field measurements,a linear regression model II was used to generate the conversion ratio of Phyto-C to Chl-a.In most cases,a good linear correlation was found between the observed POC and Chl-a concentrations,and the calculated conversion ratios ranged from 26 to 250 with a mean value of 56 μgμg-1.The conversion ratio in the fall was higher than that in the winter and spring months,and had the lowest values in the summer.The ratios also exhibited spatial variations,generally with low values in the near shore regions and relatively high values in offshore waters.Our study suggests that temperature was likely to be the main factor influencing the observed seasonal variations of conversion ratios while nutrient supply and light penetration played important roles in controlling the spatial variations. 展开更多

本文采用真空冷冻干燥(VFD)、鼓风加热干燥(HAD)、煮沸蒸发干燥(BED)3种不同干燥方式制备互花米草植物盐,分别从互花米草植物盐的提盐量、感官品质、复水性、溶解时间、微观结构等方面对互花米草植物盐干燥特性及品质进行对比、分析和... 本文采用真空冷冻干燥(VFD)、鼓风加热干燥(HAD)、煮沸蒸发干燥(BED)3种不同干燥方式制备互花米草植物盐,分别从互花米草植物盐的提盐量、感官品质、复水性、溶解时间、微观结构等方面对互花米草植物盐干燥特性及品质进行对比、分析和评价。结果表明:VFD处理下的互花米草提取液提盐率为17.5%,高于BED处理(15%)和HAD处理(16.5%);不同干燥方式处理下,综合色泽、外观形态、气味、滋味、杂质方面的感官评价分析得出VFD处理更佳;VFD处理得到的植物盐复水程度最高,达到82%,溶解于水的时间最短;经电子显微镜观察结构显示,VFD处理后的植物盐颗粒更细小,结构更疏松,而其他两种干燥方式微观结构相近。综合分析可知,VFD是制备互花米草植物盐较适宜的方法。 展开更多

外源菌群及与植物联合修复华北中度石油污染土壤效果研究

为探讨不同微生物菌群对华北地区中度石油污染土壤的修复效果,在实验室模拟条件下分别进行优势外源石油降解菌群的筛选和优势菌群与植物联合修复试验。结果显示:4种外源石油降解菌群中,PDC-3菌群对中度石油污染土壤总石油烃(TPH,total p... 为探讨不同微生物菌群对华北地区中度石油污染土壤的修复效果,在实验室模拟条件下分别进行优势外源石油降解菌群的筛选和优势菌群与植物联合修复试验。结果显示:4种外源石油降解菌群中,PDC-3菌群对中度石油污染土壤总石油烃(TPH,total petroleum hydrocarbons)去除率为84.07%,在各菌群中效果最优;该优势菌群与植物联合修复中度石油污染土壤比单独使用优势菌群修复可获得更好的效果,优势菌群与黑麦草联用及优势菌群与紫花苜蓿联用120 d TPH的去除率分别为91.58%和89.30%,修复后土壤中TPH含量均小于500 mg/kg;同时优势菌群与黑麦草联合修复在90 d即可去除89.32%的土壤TPH,相比选用紫花苜蓿可有效缩短修复周期;优势菌群对土壤TPH的去除起主要作用,其贡献率远高于土著微生物菌群或植物的贡献率;植物对土壤TPH去除的贡献率为4.09%~6.48%,且其作用主要发生在修复过程的中后期;优势菌群单独使用或与植物联合修复中度石油污染土壤120 d均可有效去除C10~C12及C22~C40石油烃组分,去除率为85.14%~100.00%;然而,C13~C21石油烃组分含量表现出阶段性的积累效应;除对土壤石油烃的去除作用外,使用优势菌群进行生物修复存在一定的调节土壤pH、增加土壤肥力,且有利于恢复修复后的土壤功能。 展开更多

水体中浮游植物在越冬期间数量少,关于湖泊中越冬浮游植物如蓝藻、绿藻、硅藻等浮游植物的光合作用活性情况少见报道.本实验通过Phyto-PAM(Pulse Amplitude Modulation)对最大光量子产量F_v/F_m(可变荧光和最大荧光之比)和快速光曲线... 水体中浮游植物在越冬期间数量少,关于湖泊中越冬浮游植物如蓝藻、绿藻、硅藻等浮游植物的光合作用活性情况少见报道.本实验通过Phyto-PAM(Pulse Amplitude Modulation)对最大光量子产量F_v/F_m(可变荧光和最大荧光之比)和快速光曲线的测定,结合显微镜镜检结果,并在室内进行了硫酸铜处理以及鲁哥氏液处理实验,对太湖、巢湖和玄武湖处于越冬期间的浮游植物进行了原位光合作用活性的研究.显微镜镜检结果表明太湖和玄武湖水体中以绿藻和硅藻为主,而蓝藻很少,巢湖水体中有大量蓝藻、绿藻和硅藻,Phyto-PAM在对玄武湖和太湖水样原位测定时未检测出蓝藻,而绿藻和硅藻有光合作用活性,其F_v/F_m在0.5左右;对巢湖的水体检测到的蓝藻、绿藻、硅藻都具有光合作用活性,其中绿藻和硅藻的Fv/Fm在0 5左右.蓝藻的n/Fm在0.3左右:用硫酸铜处理实验在巢湖水样中发现水体仅有硅藻活性(F_v/F_m下降至0.2左右),而用鲁哥氏液处理后无任何藻类光合作用活性,上述实验结果表明,即使处于越冬期间,以较多数量出观在水体中的蓝藻、绿藻和硅藻仍然具有较高的光合作用活性. 展开更多

采用盆栽接种试验、平皿涂抹法测数及常规酶活测定法研究了7株拮抗性放线菌在辣椒根部的定殖能力及接种24 d对辣椒叶片苯丙氨酸解氨酶(PAL)与多酚氧化酶活性(PPO)的诱导效应。结果表明:(1)供试7株放线菌单独接种均不能在辣椒根内定殖,... 采用盆栽接种试验、平皿涂抹法测数及常规酶活测定法研究了7株拮抗性放线菌在辣椒根部的定殖能力及接种24 d对辣椒叶片苯丙氨酸解氨酶(PAL)与多酚氧化酶活性(PPO)的诱导效应。结果表明:(1)供试7株放线菌单独接种均不能在辣椒根内定殖,但与辣椒疫霉P3混合接种时有5株可定殖;供试放线菌在辣椒根部的定殖能力与其体外平皿试验中产生的的拮抗圈大小基本无关;可定殖放线菌的定殖密度随时间延长而降低,至40 d时均无活菌检出。(2)在放线菌单接处理中,5株菌接种后可诱导辣椒叶片PAL活性提高,全部供试菌均能诱导PPO活性提高,其中可使两种酶同步提高的有5株菌;在放线菌+P3混接处理中,有6株接种后可诱导PAL活性提高,5株菌能诱导PPO活性提高,其中可使两种酶同步提高的有4株菌;在接入放线菌时同时混接辣椒疫霉,能增强2株供试放线菌对辣椒叶片PAL活性及6株供试放线菌对辣椒叶片PPO活性的诱导作用;供试放线菌的定殖能力与辣椒叶片PAL及PPO活性变化无明显规律性关系。 展开更多

苦豆子主要分布在我国西北沙漠地区,是一种抗逆性极强的豆科多年生药用植物。本实验采用带毒平板菌丝生长法和琼脂打孔药剂扩散法测定了苦豆子地上部分乙醇粗提物及其石油醚、氯仿、正丁醇和水层的不同极性溶剂萃取物对瓜果腐霉、黄瓜... 苦豆子主要分布在我国西北沙漠地区,是一种抗逆性极强的豆科多年生药用植物。本实验采用带毒平板菌丝生长法和琼脂打孔药剂扩散法测定了苦豆子地上部分乙醇粗提物及其石油醚、氯仿、正丁醇和水层的不同极性溶剂萃取物对瓜果腐霉、黄瓜枯萎病菌、番茄枯萎病菌、番茄早疫病菌、黄瓜角斑病菌和番茄疮痂病菌的抗菌活性。结果表明,正丁醇萃取部分和氯仿萃取部分对真菌生长有较强的抑制活性,正丁醇萃取部分对细菌亦有较强的抑制活性,推测苦豆子中的生物碱是主要的抗真菌成分,存在于正丁醇萃取部分的黄酮和三萜类配糖体等成分同时具有抗真菌和抗细菌活性。 展开更多

通过漂浮栽植菰(Zizania latifolia)和菖蒲(Acoruscalamus),研究了它们在低、中、高3种浓度污水中的生长特性及其对这3种浓度污水的净化效果.结果表明,菰和菖蒲均在中浓度污水中生长最好.菰在中浓度污水中的生物量显著高于低浓度和高浓... 通过漂浮栽植菰(Zizania latifolia)和菖蒲(Acoruscalamus),研究了它们在低、中、高3种浓度污水中的生长特性及其对这3种浓度污水的净化效果.结果表明,菰和菖蒲均在中浓度污水中生长最好.菰在中浓度污水中的生物量显著高于低浓度和高浓度中;菖蒲在中浓度污水中的生物量略高于低浓度和高浓度中,但差异不显著.菰对中浓度污水中TN、NH3-N、TP和CODCr的去除率分别为97.4%、95.3%、98.5%和71.4%,对高浓度污水中TN、NH3-N、TP和CODCr的去除率分别为96.4%、97.7%、88.2%和76.1%,净化效果均显著高于低浓度中.菰可作为中、高浓度污水的净化植物.菖蒲净化中浓度污水的效果最好,对TN、NH3-N、TP和CODCr的去除率分别为97.5%、94.1%、98.5%和72.7%;对高浓度污水中的NH3-N和CODCr去除效果也较好,去除率分别为97.8%和86.7%,但对TN和TP的去除率分别为89.5%和70.9%,显著低于对低浓度和中浓度污水中TN和TP的去除率. 展开更多
