The dispersion relations of Lamb waves axe derived. Dispersion curves and displacement fields are calculated with different piezoelectric volume fractions. Numerical results for BaTiO3/CoFe2O4 composites show that the dispersion curves resemble the symmetric Lamb waves in a plate. Exchange between the longitudinal (i.e. thickness) mode and coupled mode takes place at the crossover point between dispersion curves of the first two branches. With the increase of BaTiO3 volume fraction, the crossover point appears at a lower wave number and wave velocity is higher. These findings are useful for magnetoelectric transducer applications.展开更多

To make the analysis tractable, it is assumed that the material properties vary exponentially with the coordinate parallel to the crack. By using the Fourier transform, the problem can be solved with the help of a pair of dual integral equations in which the unknown is the jump of displacements across the crack surfaces. These equations are solved to obtain the relations between the electric filed, the magnetic flux field and the dynamic stress field near the crack tips using the Schmidt method. Numerical examples are provided to show the effect of the functionally graded parameter and the circular frequency of the incident waves upon the stress, the electric displacement and the magnetic flux intensity factors of the crack.展开更多

The explicit dispersion relations are derived for the two cases when the propagation directions of SH waves are normal to the interface and parallel to the interface, respectively. The asymptotic expressions for dispersion relations are also given when the wave number is extremely small. Numerical results for stop band effect and phase velocity are presented for a periodic system of alternating BaTiO3 and Terfenol-D layers. The influence of volume fraction on stop band effect and dispersion behaviors is discussed and revealed.展开更多

The analysis shows that the stress fields near a permeable interracial crack tip are usually with three types of singularities: r^-1/2±iε and r^-1/2. Further numerical calculation on the oscillatory index ε are given for 28 types of metal/piezoelectric bimaterials combined by seven commercial piezoelectric materials: PZT-4, BaTiO3, PZT-5H, PZT-6B, PZT-7A, P-7 and PZT-PIC 151 and four metals: copper, silver, lead and aluminum, respectively. The explicit expressions of the crack tip energy release rate (ERR) and the crack tip generalized stress intensity factors (GSIF) are obtained. It is found that both the ERR and GSIF are independent of the electric displacement loading, although they seriously depends on the mechanical loadings.展开更多

This problem is formulated into dual integral equations, in which the unknown variables are the displacement jumps across the crack surfaces. In order to obtain the dual integral equations, the displacement jumps across the crack surfaces are directly expanded as a series of Jacobi polynomials. The results show that the stress, the electric displacement, and the magnetic flux intensity factors of cracks depend on the crack length, the functionally graded parameter, and the distance among the multiple parallel cracks. The crack shielding effect is also obviously presented in a functionally graded piezoelectric/piezomagnetic material plane with mul- tiple parallel symmetric mode-III cracks.展开更多

To achieve the purpose, the polarization method for a two-dimensional piezoelectric/piezomagnetic "comparison body" is formulated. For simple harmonic motion, kernel of the polarization method reduces to a 2-D time-harmonic Green's function, which is obtained using the Radon transform. The expression is further simplified under conditions of low frequency of the incident wave and small diameter of the inclusion. Some analytical expressions are obtained. Explicit Green's function for an interface crack subjected to an edge dislocation was developed using the extended Stroh formulation, which allows the branched crack problem to be expressed in terms of coupled singular integral equations. The kink was modelled as the continuous distribution of edge dislocations and the dislocation density function was defined on the line of the branch crack only. Competition between crack extension along the interface and kinking into the substrate was investigated using the integral equations and the maximum energy release rate criterion. The numerical results have shown the effect of electric field on the path of crack extension. (Edited author abstract) 24 Refs.展开更多
