Study on Plant Landscaping Methods in Garden Landscape Construction

Garden landscape is a beautiful complex formed by space and time complementing each other and acting together.Garden plants are the core landscaping elements in garden landscape construction.It is necessary to flexibly use a variety of plant landscaping methods to create a richer and more vivid natural landscape,and promote the improvement of the quality of the living environment and the harmonious coexistence between man and nature.

Application of Garden Ground Cover Plants in Urban Roof Gardens

By analyzing the characteristics of ground cover plants,this study aimed to discuss about the plant species available for roof gardens and the selection principles.

Study on Plant Community Feature of Nanjing Temple Gardens

10 temple courtyards and 10 temple gardens were chosen as the research object in Nanjing.There were 146 species of vascular plants(including variety),which belong to 96 genera and 63 families.The Richness index,Simpson index,Species diversity and Similarity index of the plant community were analyzed.The results showed:①The dominant species of temple courtyards and temple gardens were all trees;the density of shrub layer(0.32 strains/m2) was greater than that of the tree layer(0.21 strains/m2).And the density of tree layer(2.4 strains/m2) and shrub layer(4.5 strains/m2) in temple gardens were totally higher than those of temple courtyards.②Both the Simpson index and the Species diversity in temple garden plots were higher than those of the temple courtyard plots;The Pielou index was at a higher level both in tree layer and shrub layer,which indicated that quantities of each tree species were on an average level.③The Similarity index in temple gardens was higher than that of the temple courtyards,both less than 50%,which indicated that the repetition rate of each tree species was obviously greater in temple gardens than in temple courtyards.

Application Characteristics and Patterns of Aromatic Plants in Gardens

4 characteristics of aromatic plants as garden design elements are described:"aromatic beauty" of plants is not limited by vision;aroma of plants has the capacity of adjusting mental and physical state of viewers;aroma of plants is able to sterilize and purify the environment;aroma of plants helps form the artistic conception of gardens.There are 4 major types of aromatic plants:aromatic flower plants,aromatic foliage plants,aromatic fruit plants and others.Representative plants of each type are given to discuss application modes of aromatic plants,specifically,aromatic plant as main landscape,aromatic plant as decorative landscape,aromatic plant for health care,indoor combination of aromatic plant,aromatic plant as dress and personal adornment.Concrete application techniques and attentions are introduced.

Cultural Implication of Plants in Classical Chinese Gardens

Besides the ornamental and landscape composition functions,plants in classical Chinese gardens also play another significant role,i.e.cultural function.The cultural psychology of taking garden plants as emotional vectors and a living history as well as that of garden plant furnishing were elaborated in this study,and the cultural implication of plants was studied to make the cultural connotation of classical Chinese gardens be understood fully.

Species and Distribution Characteristics of Alien Invasive Plants in Garden Greenbelt of Shijiazhuang City

[Objectives]The paper was to investigate the garden greenbelt in 30 sample plots such as parks,roads,communities,etc.in Shijiazhuang City.[Methods]The species,abundance and frequency of weeds in the greenbelt of public gardens were recorded through point-line-surface investigation,and typical plants were sampled.[Results]There were 56 species of alien invasive plants in garden greenbelts of Shijiazhuang City,belonging to 44 genera and 20 families.In terms of life form,herbaceous plants were absolutely dominant,accounting for 92.8%of the total.The most alien invasive plants were native to America,accounting for 66.1%of the total.In terms of introduction path,the plants introduced artificially and unintentionally accounted for almost half.The species and quantity of alien invasive plants were related to the size of greenbelt area,the length of the build time of the surveyed plot,the composition structure of greenbelt and the level of green management and protection.There was larger distribution of alien invasive plants in the sample plots with large greenbelt area,long build time,herbaceous-dominated greenbelt and low level of green management and protection.Among the 56 alien invasive plants,3 plants were toxic.From the perspective of invasiveness,the alien invasive plants in the garden greenbelt of Shijiazhuang City could be divided into 5 levels:invasive alien species of malignant consequences,invasive alien species of severe consequences,invasive alien species of partial consequences,invasive alien species of average consequences,and invasive alien species to be observed.[Conclusions]This study will provide a reference for the prevention and control of alien plant invasion,and lay a foundation for the prevention and control of existing invasive plants.

Artful Application of Garden Plants in Classical Suzhou Gardens

Defi nition of plant landscaping and features of plant landscaping in classical Suzhou gardens were introduced, the forms of combining plants and buildings, rockeries and waterscapes were analyzed by elaborating selection of plant species and plant furnishings. In addition, manifestation of artistic beauty of the classical Suzhou gardens was explored, and protective measures were given.

Thoughts about Plant Landscape Forms of Urban Gardens

Landscape presents nature to us in another way through artificial transformation. At the same time of rapid development,cities should attach great importance to setting of urban green landscape. Plant landscape of urban gardens is an essential part of urban green landscape. To study plant landscape of urban gardens,it is necessary to find out growth habits and characteristics of plants,and ornamental benefits of plants. Different plants can be combined together to produce different space forms and generate different aesthetic effects. Through enriching plant landscape forms of urban gardens,it is feasible to increase the interest of urban landscape.

The future of plant conservation and the role of botanic gardens

The papers included in this special issue are mostly based on presentations made at the IABG international conference held at Shanghai Chenshan Botanical Garden, China, November 2016, which addressed the roles that botanic gardens, both in China and elsewhere, can play in national biodiversity conservation stra- tegies, such as maintaining and conserving plant material ex situ and in contributing to the recovery of threatened plant species, reintroductions and other translocations. It also looked beyond bot- anic gardens and addressed how to work and plan much more closely with other practitioners.

Current Plant Landscaping in Southern Gardens and Suggestions for the Optimized Configuration

Abundant lands of China such as Suzhou, Hangzhou, Sichuan and Chongqing are all located in the basin of the Yangtze River, and subtropical evergreen broad-leaved forest belt, enjoy mild climate, sufficient rainfall, rich ornamental plant resources and diversifi ed landscaping techniques. In the long-term landscaping practices, plant furnishing arts characterized by diversifi ed layer division, elegant styles, delicate and vivid images have been formed, but are still limited in combination of plant species and selection of varieties. In accordance with personal experience in plant landscaping in recent years, the author provided a few suggestions for the optimized confi guration of plant landscapes in southern regions.

Herod the Great built palaces and complexes with innovative excellence.This article explores his success in creating unique and luxurious gardens in desert areas.It does this by discussing the interaction between Herodian architecture already excavated by archaeologists and the newer science of garden archaeology.The investigation gives a realistic knowledge,through laboratory analysis of the plants grown in Herod’s gardens and how inventive he was.

The Application of Plant Culture in Architectural Decorations of Classical Gardens of Yangzhou

Investigations were made on the various plant patterns which appeared in the decorations of the two types of gardens, namely private gardens and temple gardens in Yangzhou. Analysis was made of the application of plant elements in each location, their implication of the traditional culture, and the relationship between the garden style, theme and artistic conception, aiming to provide a reference for the application of plant culture in the future garden decorations design.

Naturalistic,Harmonious,and Emotional:An Aesthetic Study of Plants of Chinese Gardens in the Qing Dynasty

The Qing Dynasty was the mature period of traditional Chinese gardens,and the construction of royal gardens reached its peak.Using the method of image and text analysis,the landscape features of different seasons in the Chinese gardens were probed,the layout of its spatial elements and the method of plant landscaping was analyzed,and the artistic characteristics of the gardens in the Qing Dynasty was studied.The aesthetic conception of the gardens have been discussed from the following aspects,the integration of time and space,the harmonious relationship between the garden elements and the fusion of scenery and feelings.

Analysis of Vertical Greening Landscaping in Suzhou Classical Gardens of China

Based on the survey of vertical greening plants in Suzhou classical gardens, the paper had introduced plants varieties for vertical greening in the gardens, and pointed out that it was one of the common techniques for vertical greening landscaping to make use of vine plants. It had also introduced 23 species of plants having been applied in vertical greening landscaping in Suzhou classical gardens, which belonged to 19 genera and 13 families. In terms of application form, it emphasized that white walls should be treated as papers and plants as paintings, shelves as pavilions and plants as shade, fences as supports and plants as decorations, rockeries as bones and plants as coats, banks as bases and plants as edges, columns as axes and plants as ornaments, bridges as surfaces and plants as points, and sloping fields as groves and plants as auxiliaries by taking vertical greening in Nets Garden, the Humble Administrator's Garden, Lingering Garden, the Garden of Pleasant, the Lion Forest Garden and Coupling Garden for example.

Characteristics Comparison of Garden Plant Furnishing between Suzhou City and Hangzhou City

This study aimed to analyze the difference and commonness between the garden landscape in Suzhou City (Jiangsu Province) and Hangzhou City (Zhejiang Province) from the aspects of landscape type,plant selection and application,landscape design mode,principle and service object.

Wild Ornamental Plant Resources and Their Application to City Gardening in Hainan Province

This paper deals with the wild ornamental plant resources which are suitable for the application to gardening in Hainan Province and with the significance and the influencing factors in the application and extension of these resources to gardening. The strategies for the application of the wild ornamental plant resources have been established as the result of this research.

Fifty Years of Botanical Gardens in China

The development, distribution and features of one hundred and forty botanical gardens (BGs) in China are reported and their functions on research, conservation, display and utilization of biodiversity are summarized in this paper. The contributions to the social and economic development in the early stage of Chinese BGs with the researches of economic plant (tobacco), medicinal plant (yam) and wild fruit tree resources are evaluated. The theoretical and applied achievements in recent years in seed science, plant conservation, economic plant introduction, acclimatization and breeding are also described. A general scope of living plant collections in Chinese BGs is presented and the outstanding ones, including Magnoliaceae, Zingiberaceae, Cycadaceae, medicinal plants, Actinidia and Rhododendron are particularly mentioned. With special reference to Chinese penjing art garden and silicified wood garden, the development of scientific popularization and tourism in BGs is reviewed.

According to the analysis of the specific condition of green space of residential area in Liuzhou,effective suggestions to the design,cultivation and maintenance were put forward.

Study on the Plant Furnishing for Garden Landscaping

With the social development and the improvement of living standards, higher demands have been proposed on dwelling environment, plant furnishing in garden landscaping can not only beautify the environment, satisfy the aesthetic requirements of people, but also generate considerable ecological and social benefits. Based on studying the present situation of garden plant furnishing, problems in garden landscaping were found out, principles for scientific and reasonable plant furnishing were proposed as well as favorable methods and artistic theories, it was also put forward that the ecological, scientific and human-oriented plant furnishing was the orientation of garden landscaping.
