This study aimed to produce spherical TiNi powders suitable for additive manufacturing by plasma rotating electrode process(PREP).Scanning electron microscopy,X-ray diffractometry and differential scanning calorimetry were used to investigate the surface and inner micro-morphology,phase constituent and martensitic transformation temperature of the surface and inner of the atomized TiNi powders with different particle sizes. The results show that the powder surface becomes smoother and the grain becomes finer gradually with decreasing particle size. All the powders exhibit a main B2-TiNi phase, while large powders with the particle size≥178μm contain additional minor Ti2Ni and Ni3Ti secondary phases. These secondary phases are a result of the eutectoid decomposition during cooling.Particles with different particle sizes have experienced different cooling rates during atomization.Various cooling rates cause different martensitic transformation temperatures and routes of the TiNi powders;in particular, the transformation temperature decreases with decreasing particle size. 展开更多

In this study, the characteristics and solidification behavior of Ti-48Al-3Nb-1.5Ta powder produced by supreme-speed plasma rotating electrode process(SS-PREP®)were investigated. The microstructure, phase and characteristics were analyzed by scanning electron microscopy,X-ray diffraction and other methods. The atomization mechanism is direct drop formation. The relationship between the particle size and cooling rate is vc=3.14×10^(-7)·d^(-2)+1.18×10^(-2)·d^(3/2),and the relationship between secondary dendrite arm space and the particle size isλ=0.028d+0.11,as well as the relationship between SDAS and cooling rate isλ=4.84×10^(-5)·T^(-1.43).With increase in particle size, the surface structure gradually changes from the featureless smooth structure to dendritic and cellular dendritic morphology, and the flow ability becomes better. The carbides mainly exist within 5 nm of the surface and the oxidation layer is about 20 nm thick.Ti-48Al-3Nb-1.5Ta powder was mainly composed ofα2 phase andγphase. With increase in particle size, the content ofγphase increases, and the hardness decreases accordingly. The 106–250μm particles are composed of multiple grains with the grain size of 70–80μm.The microstructure, phase composition and hardness of different TiAl powders with the same size are similar, but the elastic modulus is different. 展开更多

In this work, physical models of neoclassical tearing modes (NTMs) including bootstrap current and multiple modulated electron cyclotron current drive model are applied. Based on the specific physical problems during the suppression of NTMs by driven current, this work compares the efficiency of continuous and modulated driven currents, and simulates the physical processes of multiple modulated driven currents on suppressing rotating magnetic island. It is found that when island rotates along the poloidal direction, the suppression ability of continuous driven current can be massively reduced due to current deposition outside the island separatrix and reverse deposition direction at the X point, which can be avoided by current drive modulation. Multiple current drive has a better suppressing effect than single current drive. This work gives realistic numerical simulations by optimizing the model and parameters based on the experiments, which could provide references for successful suppression of NTMs in future advanced tokamak such as international thermonuclear experimental reactor. 展开更多

Charge-exchange(CX) recombination spectroscopy is a powerful tool monitoring ion temperature and plasma rotation with good temporal and spatial resolutions. A compact, new design for a high-throughput, tri-band high spectral resolution spectrometer has been developed for the charge-exchange recombination spectroscopy measurement on the HL-2A tokamak. The simultaneous measurements of He II(468.57 nm), C VI(529.1 nm), and Dα(656.1 nm accompanied by beam emission spectra) with an acquisition frequency up to 400 Hz are achieved by vertically binning the spectrum from each fiber in experiments. Initial results indicate that the system can provide radial profiles of not only ion temperature and rotation velocity, but also concentration of carbon. For the case of helium, the measurements for the ion temperature and rotation velocity are straightforward but the apparent concentration associated with the observed CX intensity is obviously too high. Modeling of the active He II CX feature including plume contributions needs to be carried out to extract the true helium concentration. The spectrometer could become a prototype for the ITER charge-exchange recombination spectroscopy diagnostic and the pilot experiments, as presented here, demonstrate the possibility of impurity concentrations measurements based on the combined measurement of local beam emission and charge-exchange recombination spectroscopy spectra. 展开更多

The tokamak plasma flows induced by the local radio frequency (RF) forces in the core region are analyzed. The effective components of local RF forces are composed of the momentum absorption term and the resonant parallel momentum transport term (i.e. the parallel component of the resonant ponderomotive forces). Different momentum balance relations are em- ployed to calculate the plasma flows depending on different assumptions of momentum transport. With the RF fields solved from RF simulation codes, the toroidal and poloidal flows by these forces under the lower hybrid current drive and the mode conversion ion cyclotron resonance heating on EAST-like plasmas are evaluated. 展开更多

The poloidal rotation of the magnetized edge plasma in tokamak driven by the ponderomotive force which is generated by injecting lower hybrid wave(LHW) electric field has been studied. The LHW is launched from a waveguide in the plasma edge, and by Brambilla's grill theory, analytic expressions for the wave electric field in the slab model of an inhomogeneous cold plasma have been derived. It is shown that a strong wave electric field will be generated in the plasma edge by injecting LH wave of the power in MW magnitude, and this electric field will induce a poloidal rotation with a sheared poloidal velocity. 展开更多

Inversion techniques are conducted based on the tangential x-ray crystal spectroscopy(TXCS)geometry on EAST to obtain the local profiles of ion temperature(Ti)and toroidal rotation velocity(vt).Firstly, local emissivity profiles of the impurity argon are obtained using the asymmetrical Abel inversion. Then, the local vt and Ti profiles are calculated by considering the local emissivity profiles and the TXCS detailed geometry. In addition, how the changes in the vt profiles affect the accuracy in the Ti profiles is discussed in detail. It is also found that the lineintegrated Ti profiles are becoming less accurate with the increase in the radial gradient in the local vt profiles.Nonetheless, accurate Ti radial profiles are reconstructed after considering the effects of the emissivity and velocity, which are verified by comparing the inverted vt and Ti profiles with those local profile measurements from the Charge eXchange Recombination Spectroscopy(CXRS)on EAST. 展开更多

The surface microstructure and the surface segregation of FGH 95 nickel-basedsuperalloy powders prepared through plasma rotating electrode processing (PREP) have beeninvestigated by using SEM and AES. The results indicate that the surface microstructure of powderschanges from dendrite into cellular stricture as the particle size of powders decrease, and thepredominant precipitates solidified on the particle surfaces were identified as MC' type carbidesenriched with Nb and Ti. It was also indicated that along with the depth of particle surfaces, thesegregation layer of S, C and O elements are thick, and that of Ti, Cr elements are thin for largesire powders while they are in reverse for median size particles. 展开更多

In order to investigate the influence of processing parameters on the granularity distribution of superalloy powders during the atomization of plasma rotating electrode processing (PREP), in this paper FGH95 superalloy powders is prepared under different processing conditions by PREP and the influence of PREP processing parameters on the granularity distribution of FGH95 superalloy powders is discussed based on fractal geometry theory. The results show that with the increase of rotating velocity of the self-consuming electrode, the fractal dimension of the granularity distribution increases linearly, which results in the increase of the proportion of smaller powders. The change of interval between plasma gun and the self-consuming electrode has a little effect on the granularity distribution, also the fractal dimension of the granularity distribution changed a little correspondingly. 展开更多

In order to understand the relation between microstructure of superalloypowders and its solidification progress, the processing parameters are optimized during plasmarotating electrode processing (PREP). It was predicted from the results that the droplet velocities, droplet temperature, and fractional solidification with flight time about FGH95 superalloy droplethave been carried out based on Newtonian heat transfer formulation coupled with the classicalheterogeneous nucleation and the specific solidification process. It has been found that the dropletdynamic and thermal behavior is strongly affected by the distribution of droplet diameters, theproportion of cooling atmosphere, but is relatively unaffected by the droplet superheat. 展开更多

An attempt was made to improve the spatio-temporal resolution of the tangen- tial X-ray crystal spectrometer (XCS) on the Experimental Advanced Superconducting Tokamak (EAST) by evaluating experimentally the applicability of a novel X-ray photon detection tech- nology for measuring the satellite spectra of Ar XVII with a high counting rate. High-resolution experimental data on the profiles of ion temperature and plasma rotation velocity facilitate the studies of the mechanisms underlining important physical phenomena, such as plasma heating, L-H transition and momentum transport. Based on silicon diode array and single-photon counting technology, a relatively small area (83.8 x 33.5 mm~) two-dimensional detector was successfully in- stalled and tested in the recent EAST campaign. X-ray photon counting rate higher than 20 MHz was observed for the first time, and high quality satellite spectra were recorded for ion temperature and plasma rotation measurement, indicating that the new technology is suitable for the next-step high-resolution XCS on EAST, and the deployment of a detector array with a much larger X-ray sensing area is planned for better plasma coverage. 展开更多

The change in the toroidal rotation of plasma caused by electron cyclotron wave(ECW) injection has been observed in EAST. It is found that the response of the rotation is similar for all possible ECW toroidal injection angles. The core toroidal rotation velocity increases in the co-current direction along with a rise in the plasma temperature and stored energy. The profile of the electron temperature, ion temperature and toroidal rotation velocity gradually become peaked. The change in toroidal rotation in the core increases with the ECW injection power. Different behavior is observed when the ECWs are injected into low hybrid current drive(LHCD) target plasmas, where the electron temperature and rotation profile become peaked, while the ion temperature profile flattens after ECW injection, suggesting different transport characteristics in energy and momentum. 展开更多
