Qualification of polarization can be realized either on a macroscopic scale as an average property by P-E hysteresis measurements or on a nano/micro scale by piezoelectric force microscopy,transmission electron micros...Qualification of polarization can be realized either on a macroscopic scale as an average property by P-E hysteresis measurements or on a nano/micro scale by piezoelectric force microscopy,transmission electron microscopy,scanning electron microscopy,and so on.However,visualization and qualification of polarization distribution in the micron to millimeter scale is still a challenge.Polarizing light microscopy(PLM)is often used in the study of ferroelectric domain structures mainly for domain patterns.A phe-nomenon called“chromatic polarization”has been observed in transparent ferroelectric crystals by using a crossed-PLM system viewed with white light,which contains rich information about local polariza-tion distribution.In this study,an automatic full-angle light intensity detection(AFALID)algorithm com-bined with colorimetry is developed to analyze the distribution of nonuniform local spontaneous polar-ization distribution in transparent ferroelectric single crystals.Temperature-dependent spontaneous po-larizations from the color analysis for PMN-0.36PT single crystals with single tetragonal domain state are in good coincidence with those extracted from temperature-dependent hysteresis loops and pyroelectric current measurements.We further apply this method to quantify the nonuniform domain distributions with nano-indentations.This non-contact and non-destructive characterization can provide fast and au-tomatic detection of polarization distributions in ferroelectric materials.展开更多
The polarized images of a synchrotron emitting ring are studied in the regular Hayward and Bardeen black hole spacetimes.These regular black holes carry a magnetic field in terms of gravity coupled to nonlinear electr...The polarized images of a synchrotron emitting ring are studied in the regular Hayward and Bardeen black hole spacetimes.These regular black holes carry a magnetic field in terms of gravity coupled to nonlinear electrodynamics.Results show that the main features of the polarization images of the emitting rings are similar in these two regular black hole spacetimes.As the magnetic charge parameter increases,the polarization intensity and the electric vector position angle in the image plane increase in Hayward and Bardeen black hole spacetimes.Moreover,the polarization intensity and electric vector position angle in the image of the emitting ring in the Hayward black hole spacetime are closer to those in the Schwarzschild case.The effects of the magnetic charge parameter on the Strokes Q-U loops are also slightly smaller in the Hayward black hole spacetime.This information stored in the polarization images around Hayward and Bardeen black holes could help understand regular black holes and the gravity coupled to nonlinear electrodynamics.展开更多

By analyzing the variation of the electron mobility for the two-dimensional electron gas (2DEG) with electric field, it is found that the different polarization charge distributions generated by the different channel electric field distributions can result in different polarization Coulomb field scatterings. The difference between the electron mobilities primarily caused by the polarization Coulomb field scatterings can reach up to 1522.9 cm2/V.s for the prepared In0.38AI0.82N/A1N/GaN HFETs. In addition, when the 2DEG sheet density is modulated by the drain-source bias, the electron mobility presents a peak with the variation of the 2DEG sheet density, the gate length is smaller, and the 2DEG sheet density corresponding to the peak point is higher.展开更多
An expression of degree of polarization(DOP) for metallic material is presented based on the three-component polarized bidirectional reflectance distribution function(p BRDF) model with considering specular reflec...An expression of degree of polarization(DOP) for metallic material is presented based on the three-component polarized bidirectional reflectance distribution function(p BRDF) model with considering specular reflection, directional diffuse reflection and ideal diffuse reflection. The three-component p BRDF model with a detailed reflection assumption is validated by comparing simulations with measurements. The DOP expression presented in this paper is related to surface roughness, which makes it more reasonable in physics. Test results for two metallic samples show that the DOP based on the three-component p BRDF model accords well with the measurement and the error of existing DOP expression is significantly reduced by introducing the diffuse reflection. It indicates that our DOP expression describes the polarized reflection properties of metallic surfaces more accurately.展开更多
Using the mesoscale eddy trajectory atlas product derived from satellite altimeter data from 1993 to 2016,this study analyzes statistical characteristics and seasonal variability of mesoscale eddies in the Banda Sea o...Using the mesoscale eddy trajectory atlas product derived from satellite altimeter data from 1993 to 2016,this study analyzes statistical characteristics and seasonal variability of mesoscale eddies in the Banda Sea of the Indonesian seas.The results show that there were 147 mesoscale eddies that occurred in the Banda Sea,of which 137 eddies were locally generated and 10 originated from outside.The total numbers of cyclonic eddies(CEs,clockwise)and anticyclonic eddies(AEs,anticlockwise)are 76 and 71,respectively.Seasonally,the number of CEs(AEs)is twice larger than the number of AEs(CEs)in winter(summer).In winter,CEs are distributed in the southern and AEs in the northern basins,respectively,but the opposite thing occurs in summer,i.e.,the polarities of mesoscale eddies observed at the same location reverse seasonally.The mechanisms of polarity distribution reversal(PDR)of mesoscale eddies are examined with reanalysis data of ocean currents and winds.The results indicate that the basin-scale vorticity,wind stress curl,and the meridional shear of zonal current reverse seasonally,which are favorable to the PDR of mesoscale eddies.The possible generation mechanisms of mesoscale eddies include direct wind forcing,barotropic and baroclinic instabilities,of which the direct wind forcing should play the dominant role.展开更多

This paper retrieves the bidirectional polarization distribution functions (BPDFs) of the distinct urban cover in the Pearl River Delta (PRD) region employing the high spatial resolution of multi-angle polarized measu...This paper retrieves the bidirectional polarization distribution functions (BPDFs) of the distinct urban cover in the Pearl River Delta (PRD) region employing the high spatial resolution of multi-angle polarized measurements made by the Directional Polarimetric Camera (DPC).The BPDF operational products of MICROPOL and POLDER measurements were used to validate the BPDF products of the DPC,with the results demonstrating that the BPDF product of the DPC measurements accurately expresses the surface polarized reflectance.The polarized reflectance of distinct surface types in the PRD region was studied using the DPC measurements.The results demonstrate that the polarized reflectances of different surface types differ and decrease as the normalized difference vegetation index increases.The polarized reflectance of a distinct surface type in the PRD region decreases with increasing scattering angle.The basic theory of investigating surface properties using multi-angle polarized measurements is proposed.展开更多
