These structures have been imitated in the creation of synthetic surfaces. In this paper, a novel process for fabrication of biomimetic hierarchical structures by electrochemical deposition of a metal on porous alumina is described. An aluminum specimen was anodically oxidized to obtain a porous alumina template, which was used as an electrode to fabricate a surface with micro structures through electrochemical deposition of a metal such as nickel and copper after the enlargement of pores. Astonishingly, a hier- archical structure with nanometer pillars and micrometer clusters was synthesized in the pores of the template. The nanometer pillars were determined by the nanometer pores. The lbrmation of micrometer clusters was related to the thin walls of the pores and the crystallization of the metal on a flat surface. From the as-prepared biomimetic surfaces, lotus-leaf-like superhydrophobic surfaces with nickel and copper deposition were achieved.展开更多

The nanofluid is represented by a model that includes both Brownian motion and thermophoresis effects. A suitable set of non-dimensional variables are used to transform the governing boundary layer equations into a dimensionless form. The resulting nonlinear system is mapped to the vertical flat plate domain, and a non-similar solution is used to the obtained equations. The obtained non-similar system is then solved numerically using the fourth-order Runge-Kutta method. The influence of various physical parameters on the local Nusselt number, the local Sherwood number, the local density number of the motile microorganisms, the dimensionless velocity, the dimensionless temperature, and the rescaled density of motile microorganisms is studied. It is found that the local Nusselt number, the local Sherwood number, and the local density number of the motile microorganisms decrease by increasing either the Grashof number or the magnetic field parameter.展开更多

The specific surface area by the explosive decomposition of and properties of powders synthesized at various temperatures were characterized using BET, X-ray diffraction (XRD), infrared spectra (IR), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The results indicate that the highest specific surface area is found to be 65.37 m^2·g^-1 at the calcination temperature of 600 ℃, and then decreases to 20.33 m2· g^- 1 with the calcination temperature rising from 600 to 900 ℃. The powders show strong surface activity for adsorping water and carbon dioxide in air, which also decreases with the rising calcination temperature. The drop both on the surface area and surface activity of samples at higher temperatures may be due to pore-narrowing(sintering) effects.展开更多

To carry out the numerical solution, two steps are performed. The governing partial differential equations are firstly simplified into a set of highly coupled nonlinear ordinary differential equations by appropriate similarity variables, and then numerically solved by the finite difference method. The obtained similarity solution depends on four non-dimensional parameters, i.e., the Brownian motion parameter (Nb), the buoyancy ratio (Nr), the thermophoresis parameter (Nt), and the Lewis number (Le). The variations of the reduced Nusselt number and the reduced Sherwood number with Nb and Nt for various values of Le and Nr are discussed in detail. Simulation results depict that the increase in Nb, Nt, or Nr decreases the reduced Nusselt number. An increase in the Lewis number increases both of the reduced Nusselt number and the Sherwood number. The results also reveal that the nanoparticle concentration boundary layer thickness is much thinner than those of the thermal and hydrodynamic boundary layers.展开更多

The effect of surface tension at the surface below the ice-cover is neglected. There exists only one wave number propagating at just below the ice-cover. A perturbation analysis is employed to solve the boundary value problem governed by Laplace's equation by a method based on Green's integral theorem with the introduction of appropriate Green's function and thereby evaluating the reflection and transmission coefficients approximately up to first order. In this paper, the design of surface-enhanced cantilever sensors using nano- (micro-) porous films as surface layers is proposed. The static deformation and resonance frequencies of these surface-enhanced sensors with the simultaneous effects of the eigenstrain, the surface stress and the adsorption mass are analyzed. It is shown that the sensitivities of these novel cantilever sensors for the static deformation and resonance frequencies can be tuned by the porosity, the size of the pores and the structure of the porous films. For the three kinds of cantilever consisting of solid films, films with aligned cylindrical micro-scale pores, and those with nano-scale pores, the nano-porous one has the highest static and dynamic sensitivities, whereas the solid one has the lowest.展开更多

This structure can both identify the properties of guided waves in a more practical model and address the relationship between the cylinder damage degree and the surface and surrounding medium. The principal motivation is to perform a detailed quantitative analysis of the longitudinal mode and flexural mode in an elastic cylinder wrapped with a porous medium immersed in fluid. The frequency equations for the propagation of waves are derived each for a pervious surface and an impervious surface by employing Biot theory. The influences of the various parameters of the porous medium wrapping layer on the phase velocity and attenuation are discussed. The results show that the influences of porosity on the dispersion curves of guided waves are much more significant than those of thickness, whereas the phase velocity is independent of the static permeability. There is an apparent “mode switching” between the two low-order modes. The characteristics of attenuation are in good agreement with the results from the dispersion curves. This work can support future studies for optimizing the theory on detecting the damage to cylinder or pipeline.展开更多

C. and Nunziato, J. W. Linear elastic materials with voids. Journal of Elasticity, 13(2), 125-147 (1983)). The velocity equation is derived, and the results are discussed. It is observed that there may be two torsional surface wave fronts in the medium whereas three wave fronts of torsional surface waves in the absence of the rigid boundary plane given by Dey et al. (Dey, S., Gupta, S., Gupta, A. K., Kar, S. K., and De, P. K. Propagation of torsional surface waves in an elastic layer with void pores over an elastic half-space with void pores. Tamkang Journal of Science and Engineering, 6(4), 241-249 (2003)). The results also reveal that in the porous layer, the Love wave is also available along with the torsional surface waves. It is remarkable that the phase speed of the Love wave in a porous layer with a rigid surface is different from that in a porous layer with a free surface. The torsional waves are observed to be dispersive in nature, and the velocity decreases as the oscillation frequency increases.展开更多

However, the repeated manipulations for droplets of SLIPSs are quite limited in the works reported so far, the poor durability of droplet manipulation severely limits the practical application of the surfaces. In this paper, an Fe3O4-doped polydimethylsiloxane(PDMS)-based SLIPS is proposed and implemented to achieve ultra-high repeated droplet manipulation numbers under near-infrared ray(NIR) laser irradiation. Firstly, a micron columnar array structure with micro-pits on the top side, as well as, a wall structure out of the array is designed on SLIPS to reserve the lubricant. Secondly, the prototype of the SLIPS is fabricated by a 3-step ultraviolet(UV) lithography, and subsequently immersed in silicone oil for more than 96 h to obtain the ultra-high durability slippery lubricant-infused porous surface(UD-SLIPS). With a power of 25 m W–85 m W NIR laser, the repeated manipulation of microdroplets(≤ 5 μL) in the scale of 1 cm can exceed more than 3000 times which is far beyond that in previous reports. Finally, the droplet manipulation performance of this photo-responsive UD-SLIPS and the influence of infusion time on durability are investigated. The mechanism of the PDMS swelling effect is found to be the key factor in improving the droplet manipulation durability of SLIPS. The findings of this work would be of great significance for the development of highly durable photo-responsive functional surfaces for droplet manipulation.展开更多

文摘The motion of incompressible fluid of a variable fluid viscosity and variable thermal conductivity with thermal radiation, Dufour, Soret with heat and mass transfer over a linearly moving porous vertical semi-infinite plate with suction is investigated. The governing equations are transformed into a system of coupled nonlinear ordinary differential equations using similarity transformations with dimensionless variables and solved numerically using shooting method with Runge-Kutta fourth-order method and Newton-Raphson’s interpolation scheme implemented in MATLAB. The result showed that with increase in Dufour and Soret parameter, fluid velocity increases and temperature increases with increase in variation of Dufour while, temperature decreases with increase in Soret. The effects of variable fluid viscosity, variable thermal conductivity, thermal radiation, Soret, Dufour, Prandtl and Schmidt parameters on the dimensionless velocity, temperature and concentration profiles are shown graphically.

文摘Experiments have been conducted on the pool boiling of binary mixtures in JK tubeswith porous surface and ribbed channels, attempting to enhace the boiling heat transfer coefficientsinvolved. The binary mixtures used in this study are R113 and R11.The results show that the boilingfi1m heat transfer coefficients for the R113 and R11 binary mixtures in JK2 and JK1 tubes are 2—8tirnes and 2—5 times greater than those in smooth tubes respectively.Based on this experimentaldata and simple theoretical analysis,a correlation has been proposed to predict the boiling heattransfer coefficients for R113/R11 mixtures in a horizontal JK tube with a relative error of less than16%.

文摘To study the damage to an elastic cylinder immersed in fluid, a model of an elastic cylinder wrapped with a porous medium immersed in fluid is designed. This work can support future studies for optimizing the theory on detecting the damage to cylinder or pipeline.

文摘The paper presents the effect of a rigid boundary on the propagation of torsional surface waves in a porous elastic layer over a porous elastic half-space using the mechanics of the medium derived by Cowin and Nunziato (Cowin, S. C. and Nunziato, J. The torsional waves are observed to be dispersive in nature, and the velocity decreases as the oscillation frequency increases.

文摘Photo-responsive slippery lubricant-infused porous surface(SLIPS) for droplet manipulation is flexible, noncontact and non-destructive in droplet manipulation, which has promising applications in flexible robotics, microfluidics, biomedicine, and chemical analysis. The findings of this work would be of great significance for the development of highly durable photo-responsive functional surfaces for droplet manipulation.
文摘This paper is concerned with the generation of gravity waves due to prescribed initial axisymmetric disturbances created at the surface of an ice sheet covering the ocean with a porous bottom. The ice cover is modeled as a thin elastic plate, and the bottom porosity is described by a real parameter.Using linear theory, the problem is formulated as an initial value problem for the velocity potential describing the motion. In the mathematical analysis, the Laplace and Hankel transform techniques have been used to obtain the depression of the ice-covered surface in the form of a multiple infnite integral. This integral is evaluated asymptotically by the method of stationary phase twice for a long time and a large distance from the origin.Simple numerical computations are performed to illustrate the efect of the ice-covered surface and bottom porosity on the surface elevation, phase velocity, and group velocity of the surface gravity waves.Mainly the far-feld behavior of the progressive waves is observed in two diferent cases, namely initial depression and an impulse concentrated at the origin. From graphical representations,it is clearly visible that the presence of ice cover and a porous bottom decreases the wave amplitude.Due to the porous bottom, the amplitude of phase velocity decreases, whereas the amplitude of group velocity increases.
文摘This paper shows the natural convective heat transfer in porous media over the vertical wavy surface and it assumes that the fluid is viscous and in-compressible. This model shows the effects of the inverse of Darcy number. The dimensional partial differential equations are converted into a dimensionless form. The non-linear system of equations is obtained and these equations are solved numerically by the finite difference method. The results are obtained for inverse Darcy number, magnetic parameter, Prandtl number, amplitude of surface, parameter of heat generation and parameter of thermal conductivity, and their effects on the velocity, temperature of the fluid and Nusselt number.
