The Food and Drug Administration gave approval for it as a means of tre...Silver Diamine Fluoride (SDF) is colorless and alkaline with a pH of 10. It has been used in Japan and other international countries for decades. The Food and Drug Administration gave approval for it as a means of treating hypersensitivity for individuals with chronic teeth pain. SDF is also used as a method to treat and arrest dental caries. SDF application is limited due to its negative esthetic effects, which is a black stain where the cavity was present on the tooth. Topical application of potassium iodide applied immediately after SDF has been shown in studies to reduce the color change caused by SDF. This study used topical application of silver diamine fluoride (SDF) and potassium iodide (KI) treatments on bovine teeth to determine if SDF and KI were efficacious in the treatment for carious lesions. The color change was detected by use of spectrophotometric analysis to determine L, a and b readings that demarcate light and color values following staining. The conclusion was made that the application of SDF followed directly by KI treatment produced L, a and b spectrophotometric values that indicated a significant reduction in teeth staining than the application of SDF alone. Therefore, this study supports the idea that SDF and KI can be used to treat carious lesions on bovine teeth while retaining surface enamel coloration.展开更多

The effects of fluoride ions(F^(-)) on the electrochemical behavior and coordination properties of titanium ions(Ti^(n+)) were studied in this work,by combining electrochemical and mathematical analysis as well as spe...The effects of fluoride ions(F^(-)) on the electrochemical behavior and coordination properties of titanium ions(Ti^(n+)) were studied in this work,by combining electrochemical and mathematical analysis as well as spectral techniques.The α was taken as a factor to indicate the molar concentration ratio of F^(-) and Ti^(n+).Cyclic voltammetry(CV),square wave voltammetry(SWV),and open circuit potential method(OCP)were used to study the electrochemical behavior of titanium ions under conditions of various α,and in-situ sampler was used to prepare molten salt samples when α equal to 0.0,1.0,2.0,3.0,4.0,5.0,6.0,and 8.0.And then,samples were analyzed by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS) and Raman spectroscopy.The results showed that F^(-) in molten salt can reduce the reduction steps of titanium ions and greatly affects the proportion of valence titanium ions which making the high-valence titanium content increased and more stable.Ti^(2+) cannot be detected in the molten salt when α is higher than 3.0 and finally transferred to titanium ions with higher valence state.Investigation revealed that the mechanism behind those phenomenon is the coordination compounds(TiCl_(j) F_(i)^(m-)) forming.展开更多

H...The aim of this work was to produce a nanoscale fluoridated and potassium containing hydroxyapatite via sol-gel method and to observe the effect of occlusion of the dentin tubule under scanning electron microscopy. HF was selected as fluorine-containing rengent which was added into mixed Ca ( NO3 )2-P2O5 ethanol solutions to obtain dipping sols. All of the resulting samples showed apatite structure in their X- ray diffraction pattern. The lattice parameter a and the crystallite size were calculated to demonstrate the crystalline structure of fluoridated and potassium containing HA. Extracted paired premolars were chosen to obtain a fiat surface with opened tubules. It was observed that the tubules were covered by a 10 μm layer of fluoridated and potassium containing HA under the SEM. As the experimental results show the nanoscale fluoridated and potassium containing hydroxyapatite occludes the dentin tubules.展开更多

Current studies of cathodes for potassium batteries(PBs) mainly focus on the intercalation-type materials.The conversion-type materials that possess much higher theoretical capacities are rarely discussed in previous ...Current studies of cathodes for potassium batteries(PBs) mainly focus on the intercalation-type materials.The conversion-type materials that possess much higher theoretical capacities are rarely discussed in previous literatures.In this work,carbon fluoride(CF_x) is reported as a high capacity conversion-type cathode for PBs for the first time.The material delivers a remarkable discharge capacity of>250 mAh g^(-1) with mid-voltage of 2.6 V at 20 mA g^(-1).Moreover,a highly reversible capacity of around 95 mAh g^(-1) is achieved at 125 mA g^(-1) and maintained for 900 cycles,demonstrating its excellent cycling stability.The mechanism of this highly reversible conversion reaction is further investigated by nuclear magnetic resonance spectra,X-ray diffraction,and transmission electron microscopy studies.According to the analyses,the C-F bond in the cycled material is different from that in the pristine state,which presents relatively higher reversibility.This finding offers important insights for further improving the performance of the CF_x.This work not only demonstrates the CF_x as a high performance cathode for PBs,but also paves a new avenue of exploring conversion-type cathodes for high energy density PBs.展开更多

X-ray diffraction (XRD) spectra demonstrate that alumina is amorphous, and scanning electron microscope (SEM) images show that CNT and alumina are homogeneously mixed. Furthermore, the fluoride adsorption behavior on the surface of Al2O3/CNT has been investigated and compared with other adsorbents. The results indicate that Al2O3/CNT has a high adsorption capacity, with a saturation adsorption capacity of 39.4 mg/g. It is also found that the adsorption capacity of Al2O3/CNT is 3.0-4.5 times that of γ-Al2O3 while almost equal to that of IRA-410 polymeric resin at 25°C . The adsorption isotherms of fluoride on Al2O3/CNT fit the Freundlich equation well, and optimal pH ranging from 5.0 to 9.0.展开更多
Although coal fly ash(CFA)contains a high content of rare earth elements(REEs),the related extraction methods have limitations because of their low efficiencies,high levels of energy consumption,and other drawbacks.To...Although coal fly ash(CFA)contains a high content of rare earth elements(REEs),the related extraction methods have limitations because of their low efficiencies,high levels of energy consumption,and other drawbacks.To address these problems,in this study,we examined the coextraction of REEs and Al_(2)O_(3)from two types of Al_(2)O_(3)-rich CFA,pulverized CFA(PCFA)and circulating fluidized bed fly ash(CFBFA)using low-temperature calcination in the presence of K_(2)S_(2)O_(7).The total REEs,heavy REEs(HREEs),and light REEs(LREEs)extraction efficiencies were determined using different K_(2)S_(2)O_(7)/Al_(2)O_(3) molar ratios and calcination temperatures and correlated with the Al_(2)O_(3) extraction efficiency using Pearson correlation coefficient analysis.The REEs are concentrated within CFA particles encapsulated in an aluminosilicate glass phase,and the REEs extraction efficiency is related to the form of Al in CFA.The extraction efficiencies of Al_(2)O_(3) and REEs increase as the K_(2)S_(2)O_(7)/Al_(2)O_(3) molar ratio and calcination temperature increase,and the extraction selectivity of the more industrially valuable HREEs from CFBFA is higher.At high K_(2)S_(2)O_(7)/Al_(2)O_(3) molar ratios,the extraction of REEs from PCFA is more efficient than that from CFBFA with the regeneration of the highly active Al-O-Si bonds in CFBFA.The Al_(2)O_(3) extraction efficiencies of PCFA as well as CFBFA correlate strongly with the total REEs,HREEs,and LREEs extraction efficiencies.The developed extraction technology has the potential to promote CFA valorization and expand REEs resources,thus mitigating the bottlenecks of REEs procurement.展开更多
