The experiments were carried out in order to obtain the photos of droplet transfer under different welding parameters in pulsed mode. The droplet transfer mode of “one pulse one droplet” becomes the preferred selection during welding process because of its stable procedure and sound weld form. The parameter ranges for corresponding transfer mode were experimentally achieved, among which the stable droplet transfer mode of “one pulse one droplet” can be realized. These efforts brave the way for control weld heat input and weld formation in the future.展开更多

(QGC), the operator of the Queensland Curtis LNG (QCLNG) pipeline project in Australia, girth welding experiments and weldability evaluations have been carded out for three X70 UOE pipes from Baosteel based on API 1104 standards. Shielded metal arc welding (SMAW) and gas- shielded flux-cored wire arc welding (FCAW-G) have been applied, and the girth weld joint quality and mechanical performance were evaluated. It was found that the field girth weldability of Baosteel' s XT0 UOE pipes was excellent under the conditions used here and satisfied the requirements of the QCLNG project for field girth welding construction. Furthermore,Baosteel has offered a solution to the QCLNG project for pipeline girth welding in which the girth welding joint design, selection of welding processes and consumables, welding procedures, techniques and joint inspections are included. Such research provides important guidance for the difficult tie-in welding applications for the construction of the QCLNG pipelines in the field.展开更多

The critical ts/5=11s at which cold crack occurs has. been proposed as a criterion to determine whether preheating is needed. The preheating temperature is decided by the curves of heat input, plate thickness of the 9Cr-1.Mo steel vs. preheating temperature when the heat input and plate thickness are changed It is necessary to stipulate tempering parameter|P|*for welding heat treatment of the 9Cr-1Mo steel the recommended tempering parameter[P] should be controlled within 20.6 -21.3. Tempering parameter [P] is determined by tempering temperature and holding time. Tempering temperature is 760-790℃ while the period of holding time is 2 hours in this experiment. The temperature range of 450-550℃ should t be avoided during the post-heat treating since this is the sensitive tempering induced embrittle temperature of the 9Cr-1Mo steel.展开更多

The results showed that the vol- ume fraction of the lamellar β-Mg17(Al,Zn)12 intermetallic compound of in fusion zone (FZ) increased from 15% to 66% with an increase in preheat temperature. Moreover, the microhardness of the FZ and the ultimate tensile strength of the welded joints reached their maximum values when the preheat temperature was 300℃ because more lamellar β-Mg17(Al,Zn)12 intermetallic compounds were distributed at the α-Mg grain boundaries and no cracks and pores formed in the FZ of the welded joint.展开更多

A three-dimensional model based on finite element analysis was used to study the thermal characteristic of copper C I 1000 during the FSW process. The model incorporates the mechanical reaction of the tool and thermo-mechanieal characteristics of the weld material, while the friction between the material and the probe and the shoulder serves as the heat source. It was observed that the predicted results about the temperature were in good compatibility with the experimental results. Additionally, it was concluded that the numerical method can be simply applied to measuring the temperature of workpiece just beneath the tool. The effects of preheating temperature and pin angle on temperature distribution were also studied numerically. The increase of pin angle enhances the temperature around the weld line, but preheating does not affect temperature distribution along the weld line considerably.展开更多

The results show the hardness of hardfacing metal increases with increasing of ferrotitanium, ferrovanadium, graphite in the coat, but the crack resistance and processing weldability become worse. The carbides formed by arc metallurgic reaction are uniformly dispersed in the matrix structure. The phases of hardfacing metal consist of α-Fe, γ-Fe, VC, TiC and Fe3 C.The carbides are compression aggregation of TiC and VC, and their appearances present irregular block. The matrix microstrncture of hardfacing metal is lath martensite. The hardfacing layers with better crack resistance and wearability are achieved and no visible cracks occur when using non-preheated electrode in continuous welding process. Hardness of hardfacing metal is more than 60HRC, and its relative wearability is five times of wearability of D667 electrode in abrasive wear test.展开更多
