Thelaboratory test performed is based on a procedure and methods used in previous studies with differenttypes of soils, but for this special complex material, additional tests are also conducted to verify particularproperties of the tar sands, such as the tilt test and vane shear test usually used in cohesive materials, anda direct shear test. The laboratory test proves that the test procedure is applicable also to this type of soiland the conditioned material can be considered suitable for EPB excavations, although it is necessary touse a certain percentage of fine elements (filler) to create a material suitable to be mixed with foam. Thetest results show that the conditioned material fulfils the required standard for an EPB application.展开更多

These models must integrate suitable reaction kinetic expressions with hydrodynamic models properly descriptive of gas-solid contact in fluidized bed reactors. In this modeling study, our previously developed kinetic models of MTO fluidized bed reactor and regenerator are coupled with overall mass, energy and pressure balances to ensure smooth circulation of catalyst particles between the two fluidized beds. This integrated model was then applied to determine geometric dimensions of a demo-scale MTO DFB configuration and to obtain the mass distribution of catalyst particles throughout the entire system including the pipes connecting the two reactors. Our model is capable of being integrated into simulation software such as Aspen Plus for plant-wide optimization and scale-up studies.展开更多

In this paper a cyclic moving average regulation approach to cylinder pressure at top dead center (TDC) is proposed, where the ignition time is adopted as the control input. The dynamics from ignition time to the moving average index is described by ARMA model. With this model, a one-step ahead prediction-based minimum variance controller (MVC) is developed for regulation. The performance of the proposed controller is illustrated by experiments with a commercial car engine and experimental results show that the controller has a reliable effect on index regulation when the engine works under different fuel injection strategies, load changing and throttle opening disturbance.展开更多

To investigatethe influence of different factors on the adhesion strength, this study used montmorillonite, kaolin and mixtures of the two as testsoils. The adhesion strength between the steel and clay is determined with a customized rotary shear apparatus. The results showthat when the consistency index of the soil specimen is less than 1, the adhesion strength between the steel and clay increaseswith the consistency index. As the consistency index decreases, the effect of the normal pressure on the adhesion strength graduallyweakened. As the contact angle of the shear plate increases, thus reducing the hydrophilicity, the adhesion strength decreases. Whenthe soil specimens with different plasticity index values have the same consistency index value, the adhesion strengths are similar. The adhesion strength increases gradually with increasing surface roughness. Based on grey incidence analysis, the order of thefactors affecting the adhesion strength is as follows: normal pressure > consistency index > contact angle > plasticity index ≈ surfaceroughness. The normal pressure, consistency index and contact angle all have important effects on the adhesion strength betweensteel and clay. However, because there are no large differences in the contact angle among the metal materials, the approximateadhesion strength can be calculated by considering the effects of only the normal pressure and consistency index. Themeasures thatare effective for preventing EPB shield clogging are increasing the soil softness and decreasing the hydrophilicity of the cutterheadby applying new materials for the cutters and cutterhead.展开更多
