Some coefficients such as wake fraction and flow straightening coefficient were studied from the model tests in diffierent loading conditions and the normal force of rudder was tested in captive model tests to obtain the coefficients. From these results of the tests, the flow straightening coefficients increase with the increase of trims or drafts. Similarly, wake fraction coefficients are larger for the large drafts, however, become small as the trims increase. The resistance is obviously different in fully loaded condition with the trims by stern, however ,the difference is not evident when the draft decreases and the bulbous bow is above the water surface.展开更多

Fixed links shall replace ferries at seven fjord crossings. Wide spans and large depths at the crossings combined with challenging subsea topography and environmental loads call for an extension of existing practice. A variety of bridge concepts are evaluated in the feasibility study. The structures will experience significant loads from deadweight, traffic and environment. Anchoring of these forces is thus one of the challenges met in the project. Large-size subsea rock anchors are considered a viable alternative. These can be used for anchoring of floating structures but also with the purpose of increasing capacity of fixed structures. This paper presents first a thorough study of factors affecting rock anchor bond capacity. Laboratory testing of rock anchors subjected to cyclic loading is thereafter presented. Finally, the paper presents a model predicting the capacity of a rock anchor segment, in terms of a ribbed bar, subjected to a cyclic load history. The research assumes a failure mode occurring in the interface between the rock anchor and the surrounding grout. The constitutive behavior of the bonding interface is investigated for anchors subjected to cyclic one-way tensile loads. The model utilizes the static bond capacity curve as a basis, defining the ultimate bond sbuand the slip s1 at τ. A limited number of input parameters are required to apply the model. The model defines the bond-slip behavior with the belonging rock anchor capacity depending on the cyclic load level(τcy/τ), the cyclic load ratio(R= τcy/τcy), and the number of load cycles(N). The constitutive model is intended to model short anchor lengths representing an incremental length of a complete rock anchor.展开更多

Prestressed tensioning method is a kind of nondestructive testing method, by which a reverse stretching load is applied on the external exposure section of anchor cable under construction or in service, and then the elongation variation of stress bars is measured to determine the anchor stress. We elaborated the theory and testing mechanism of prestressed tensioning method, and systematically studied key issues during the prestressed tensioning process of anchor cable by using physical model test, including the composition of tension stress-elongation curve, the variation of anchor stress, the compensation of locked anchor stress, and the judgment of anchor stress, and verified the theory feasibility of prestressed tensioning method. A case study on slope anchor cable of one highway project was conducted to further discuss on the test method, operation procedures and judgment of prestressed tensioning method on obtaining anchor stress, and then the test data of three situations were analyzed. The result provides a theoretical basis and technical base for the application of prestressed tensioning method to the evaluation of construction quality and operation conditions of anchor cable project.展开更多

First, the test scheme, tasks, the corresponding measure method, as well as the relevant codes are described. Secondly, two sets of three- dimensional finite element models are established. One is Ansys which uses the solid element and the other is Midas which adopts the beam element. Finally, the experimental and analytical results are comparatively analyzed, and they show an agreement with each other. The results show that the bridge possesses adequate load-carrying capacity under all static load cases, but the capacity of dissipating external input energy is insufficient due to the relatively smaller damping ratio. The study results can provide a reference for further study and optimization of this type of bridge. Calibrated finite-element models that reflect the real conditions can be used as a baseline for future maintenance of the bridge.展开更多

The objective functions are defined based on natural frequency and modal assurance criterion (MAC) metrics to evaluate the updated FEM. Two objective functions are defined to fully account for the relative errors and standard deviations of the natural frequencies and MAC between the AVT results and the updated FEM predictions. The dynamically updated FEM of the bridge can better represent its structural dynamics and serve as a baseline in long-term health monitoring, condition assessment and damage identification over the service life of the bridge .展开更多

文摘Testing of large-sized specimens is becoming increasingly important in deep underground rock mechanics and engineering. In traditional mechanical loading, stresses on large-sized specimens are achieved by large host frames and hydraulic pumps, which could lead to great investment.Low-cost testing machines clearly always have great appeal. In this study,a new approach is proposed using thermal expansion stress to load rock specimens, which may be particularly suitable for tests of deep hot dry rock with high temperatures. This is a different technical route from traditional mechanical loading through hydraulic pressure. For the rock mechanics test system of hot dry rock that already has an investment in heating systems, this technology may reduce the cost of the loading subsystem by fully utilizing the temperature changes. This paper presents the basic principle and a typical design of this technical solution.Preliminary feasibility analysis is then conducted based on numerical simulations.Although some technical details still need to be resolved, the feasibility of this loading approach has been preliminarily confirmed.
文摘Rock anchors are a common safety measure for stabilising large-scale infrastructure, such as bridge towers, retaining walls, rock slopes and windmills. There are four principal failure modes for rock anchors:(a)tensile failure of the steel anchor,(b)anchor-grout interface failure,(c)grout-rock interface failure, and(d)rock mass uplift.Field tests were performed in a limestone quarry. These tests were designed to test failure modes B and C through pullout. In the tests of failure mode B,the shear stress on the anchor-grout interface is the largest at the top of the grout column and attenuates towards the distal end for small loads. The shear stress becomes uniformly distributed when the applied load is approximately 50%of the ultimate pullout load. The anchors designed to test failure mode C were installed with an endplate and had a higher toughness than the straight bar anchors. The shear stress on the grout-rock interface is the largest at the endplate and attenuates upward before slip starts along the interface. When the ultimate pullout load is reached, and the grout column starts to slip, the shear stress is approximately constant. The bond shear strength on the anchor-grout interface was approximately 20%of the uniaxial compressive strength of the grout, and the bond strength of the grout-rock interface was around 5%for that of the grout. The grout-rock interface is likely determined by whichever is weaker, the grout or the rock.

文摘It is very difficult, for the component-type ship mathematical model,to estimate the interaction force coefficients among the hull, propeller and rudder. The resistance is obviously different in fully loaded condition with the trims by stern, however ,the difference is not evident when the draft decreases and the bulbous bow is above the water surface.

文摘Geological repository of high-level nuclear waste(HLNW),the most feasible approach for the safe and permanent treatment of HLNW without human intervention, has been investigated for years by many researchers. In some countries, real facilities for the geo-logical repository are already under construction. In Japan, however, due to complicated geologic conditions, especially underground water and fractured rock masses, and the high risk of natural disasters, ensuring the long-term stability of the method remains a struggle. The influential factors include underground water, heat generation from radioactive waste, and thermal and chemical weathering of the surrounding rock mass as a natural barrier. It is difficult to estimate and verify the long-term stability for up to one hundred thousand years,a complicated thermal-hydraulic-mechanical-chemical coupling behavior, via any field test. The objective of the study is to develop a numerical method for predicting the long-term stability of geological repositories. As the first step toward realizing this objec-tive,heating and loading tests on cave model made of man-made rock specimens that are composed of diatoms, gypsum, and water, which are viscoplastic materials, were conducted, based on which a newly proposed numerical method with finite element method(FEM)was used to describe the thermal, mechanical, and time-dependent behavior of the model tests for a geological repository. To ensure the accuracy of the numerical calculations, all the material parameters in the thermoelasto-viscoplastic model with consideration of overconsolidation, the structure, and the influence of intermediate stress were determined via triaxial compression/creep tests under various temperatures, confining stresses, and loading rates. Finally, the validity of the numerical method was demonstrated by model tests over a limited time span.

文摘Existing studies have focused on the behavior of the retaining wall equipped with expanded polystyrene(EPS)geofoam inclusions under semi-infinite surcharge loading rather than limited surcharge loading. In this paper, the failure mode and the earth pressure acting on the rigid retaining wall with EPS geofoam inclusions and granular backfills(henceforth referred to as EPS-wall),under limited surcharge loading are investigated through two-and three-dimensional model tests. The testing results show that different from the sliding of almost all the backfill in the EPS-wall under semi-infinite surcharge loading, only an approximately triangular backfill slides in the wall under limited surcharge loading. The distribution of the lateral earth pressure on the EPS-wall under limited surcharge loading is non-linear,and the distribution changes from the increase of the wall depth to the decrease with the increase of the limited surcharge loading. An approach based on the force equilibrium of a differential element is developed to predict the lateral earth pressure behind the EPS-wall subjected to limited surcharge loading, and its performance was fully validated by the three-dimensional model tests.

文摘Conducting model experiments is an effective and reliable way in the investigation of ship hydrodynamic and hydroelastic behaviors. A survey of model testing techniques for ship hydroelasticity and its prospect are presented in this paper. The research highlights with respect to ship hydroelasticity and key points in model testing are summarized at first. Then testing techniques including laboratory tank test and full-scale sea trial are reviewed, and both their advantages and disadvantages are analyzed comprehensively. Based on the conventional testing approaches, a state-of-the-art testing approach which includes performing tests using large-scale model at sea is proposed. Furthermore, recommendations towards the further development of ship hydroelasticity tests are forecasted and discussed.

文摘The Norwegian Public Roads Administration(NPRA) is planning for an upgrade of the E39 highway route at the westcoast of Norway. The constitutive model is intended to model short anchor lengths representing an incremental length of a complete rock anchor.

文摘The anchor stress extent of a prestress anchor cable project has a direct relation with the project safety and performance. The result provides a theoretical basis and technical base for the application of prestressed tensioning method to the evaluation of construction quality and operation conditions of anchor cable project.

文摘In order to study the mechanical performance of a new type of cable-stayed beam-arch combination bridge, the results of field static and dynamic load tests are comparatively analyzed with numerical results based on the Jingyi bridge straddling the Daxi River in Yixing. Calibrated finite-element models that reflect the real conditions can be used as a baseline for future maintenance of the bridge.

文摘The dynamic finite element model (FEM) of a prestressed concrete continuous box-girder bridge, called the Tongyang Canal Bridge, is built and updated based on the results of ambient vibration testing (AVT) using a real-coded accelerating genetic algorithm (RAGA). The objective functions are defined based on natural frequency and modal assurance criterion (MAC) metrics to evaluate the updated FEM. Two objective functions are defined to fully account for the relative errors and standard deviations of the natural frequencies and MAC between the AVT results and the updated FEM predictions. The dynamically updated FEM of the bridge can better represent its structural dynamics and serve as a baseline in long-term health monitoring, condition assessment and damage identification over the service life of the bridge .

文摘Freezing in ice rubble is a common phenomenon in cold regions, which can consolidate loose blocks and change their mechanical properties. To model the cohesive effect in frozen ice rubble, and to describe the fragmentation behavior with a large external forces exerted,a freeze-bond model based on the dilated polyhedral discrete element method(DEM)is proposed.Herein, imaginary bonding is initialized at the contact points to transmit forces and moments, and the initiation of the damage is detected using the hybrid fracture model. The model is validated through the qualitative agreement between the simulation results and the analytical solution of two bonding particles. To study the effect of freeze-bond on the floating ice rubble,punch-through tests were simulated on the ice rubble under freezing and nonfreezing conditions. The deformation and resistance of the ice rubble are investigated during indenter penetration. The influence of the internal friction coefficient on the strength of the ice rubble is determined. The results indicate that the proposed model can properly describe the consolidated ice rubble, and the freeze-bond effect is of great significance to the ice rubble properties.
