In recent years, the understanding of human health has progressed considerably, through the study and understanding of the symbiotic role played by the myriad microorganisms that populate the gut and do the digesting, and populate the skin and keep it healthy, and even populate the lining of the lungs and do the same. In plant life, it is the microorganisms in the soil—which “are” the soil’s fertility—which fulfil a similar symbiotic role in a healthy plant’s life, but as yet this is a subject most visible by its absence from all scientific discussion of good farming practice. The science underlying this understanding is summarised in this paper. Understanding this and nurturing the fertility of impoverished soil by “seeding it” with the appropriate mix of microorganisms is transformational for plant health and productivity. Significant results are indicated from early trial examples of doing this in rice, oil palm and tobacco cultivation in Malaysia. 展开更多

Based on the concept of productive capital stock, this paper estimated capital input by three asset types of China’s 36 service industries in 2003–2015, and compared with the results of wealth capital stock. This study found that the wealth capital stock method underestimates the actual capital input in each sector in varying degrees, and it may interference the accuracy of productivity evaluation in sectors. According to the new estimation results of capital input, this paper further applied four stages bootstrap-DEA method to estimate industrial productivity, and calculated its confidence intervals. This study found that, the years of education and the average wage have a significant positive impact on the productivity of service industries; the productive services have a short board effect in the whole service industry. 展开更多

While labor productivityis a topicof constant debate and hasbeen studied extensively, far less attention has been devoted to the question of capital productivity. Productive use of physical capital is an important source of economic growth and investment return. This paper presents a comparative study of capital productivity in China’s high-tech industry. Using a version of theperpetualinventory method (PIM), new estimates have been madeof the physical capital stock by sector. Capital productivity in China’s high-tech industry is higherthan intotalmanufacturing, butthegapbetweenthem hasbeen shrinking.Comparison with high-tech industries in the US., highlightsthat China’shigh-tech industries could play a moreimportant rolein the growth of manufacturing and the whole economy. 展开更多

This article is devoted to the study of the system of indicators characterizing thevolume, structure and efficiency of the functioning of fixed assets of theproduction and non-production areas of the region based on the index analysis.Through factorial index analysis, models of the relationship between the grossregional product, the cost of fixed assets and capital productivity (capitalintensity) of industries producing goods and providing services were obtained,to identify reserves for increasing of the analyzed indicators. The obtainedresults indicate a trend towards significant decrease in capital productivity inthe production sector, which should become the basis for making managerialdecisions at the regional level to attract investment. They can be used in thepractice of macroeconomic analysis and forecasting, for detailing the factors fordetermining the potential of economic sectors, the efficiency of using fixedassets, and attracting investments. 展开更多
