Programmed cell death-1 inhibitor combination treatment for recurrent proficient mismatch repair/miscrosatellite-stable type endometrial cancer:A case report

BACKGROUND Endometrial cancer(EC)is one of the most common cancers of the female reproductive tract,and the incidence is increasing rapidly.Immunotherapy using programmed cell death-1(PD-1)inhibitors is an emerging research topic and treatment strategy for refractory gynecological malignancies.However,clinical management of EC with checkpoint inhibitors requires improvement.Herein,we discuss a case of refractory proficient mismatch repair(pMMR)/miscrosatellitestable(MSS)EC treated with a combination of PD-1 and angiogenesis inhibitors and offer a review of the pathophysiology and clinical outcomes based on previous studies.CASE SUMMARY A 62-year-old woman diagnosed with invasive or metastatic EC in 2015 was treated with six courses of chemotherapy and refused further radiotherapy.Four years later,she developed chest pain,and lung biopsy indicated thyroid transcription factor-1(-),Napsin A(-),estrogen receptor(+),progesterone receptor(+),anaplastic lymphoma kinase(D5F3)(-),and receptor tyrosine kinase(D4D6)(-)metastatic EC.Genetic testing results showed low tumor mutation burden,pMMR,PD ligand 1(-),MSS,and HLA-class 1 heterogeneous disease.The patient was started on toripalimab combined with nab-paclitaxel for seven cycles(every 3 wk),but this regimen was terminated because of an intolerable chemotherapy adverse event.The disease progressed in 2020,and the patient’s treatment was switched from nab-paclitaxel to anlotinib,while immunotherapy using toripalimab was continued.The patient achieved a major partial response with well-tolerated toxicities,and treatment is ongoing.CONCLUSION Molecular testing is advised for clinical classifications of EC owing to its high heterogeneity.In this case,the patient had pMMR/MSS EC and achieved a positive outcome with combination PD-1 inhibitor treatment.These results warrant further clinical exploration.

A Comparative Study of the Planning and Preparation Strategies of Novice,Proficient and Expert Teachers in Chinese Middle School

Teachers' lesson planning and preparation, which are the most important part of the job of teaching, are the beginning of teaching process. A class cannot be good or well performed without planning or preparation. Referring to the five stages model of Dreyfus(1986) and considering the teaching context of middle schools, the researcher uses qualitative and quantitative methods to get and analyze the data from 96 English teachers in three Chinese middle school. The findings show that in teaching content planning, novice and some proficient teachers cares more about the knowledge and the teaching itself, but the expert teachers pay more attention to the students' abilities and development as well as the knowledge; moreover, the novice teachers are more likely to focus on the teaching aims and choosing of teaching aid. This study also has significance in contributing to the teachers' expertise in planning.

On the Teaching Design of Graduates’EAP Course:Enhancing Language Proficiency and Critical Thinking Skills

This paper explores the integration of the bridge-in,objectives,pre-assessment,participatory activities,post-assessment and summary(BOPPPS)teaching model within the context of the post-graduates Academic English course.It discusses how this structured approach can effectively enhance students’language proficiency,foster critical thinking skills,and align with the multifaceted objectives of advanced English language education.The study provides a detailed examination of each BOPPPS component as applied to the post-graduates Academic English curriculum,supported by theoretical underpinnings and practical implications.

Enhancing Proficiency in Quadratic Equations and Functions Through the MILAPlus Strategy

This study investigates the efficacy of the Mathematics Independent Learning Activity Practice and Play Unite Scheme(MILAPlus)as an instructional strategy to improve the proficiency levels of Grade 9 students in quadratic equations and functions through a study carried out at Quezon National High School.The research involved 116 Grade 9 students and utilized a quantitative approach,incorporating both pre-assessment and post-assessment measures.The research utilizes a quasi-experimental design,examining the academic performance of students before and after the introduction of MILAPlus.The pre-assessment establishes a baseline,and the subsequent post-assessment measures the impact of the instructional strategy.Statistical analyses,including t-tests,assess the significance of differences in mean scores and mean percentage scores,providing quantitative insights into the effectiveness of MILAPlus.Findings from the study revealed a statistically significant improvement in both mean scores and mean percentage scores after the utilization of MILAPlus,indicating enhanced proficiency in quadratic equations and functions.The Mean Proficiency Scores(MPS)also showed a substantial increase,demonstrating a marked improvement in overall proficiency levels among Grade 9 students.In light of the results,recommendations were given including the continued utilization of MILAPlus as an instructional strategy and aligning its development with prescribed learning competencies.Emphasizing the consistent adherence to policies and guidelines for MILAPlus implementation is suggested for sustaining positive effects on students’long-term performance in mathematics.This research contributes valuable insights into the practical application and effectiveness of MILAPlus within the context of Grade 9 mathematics education at Quezon National High School.

Automating the Competence Matrix of a Quality Control Laboratory with the Relational Database Management Framework—A Case Study with the Analytical Chemistry Unit of a National Regulatory Agency

This study analyzed the concept of time efficiency in the data management process associated with the personnel training and competence assessments in one of the quality control (QC) laboratories of Nigeria’s Foods and Drugs Authority (NAFDAC). The laboratory administrators were burdened with a lot of mental and paper-based record keeping because the personnel training’s data were managed manually, hence not efficiently processed. The Excel spreadsheet provided by a Purdue doctoral dissertation as a remedial to this challenge was found to be deficient in handling operations in database tables, and therefore did not appropriately address the inefficiencies. Purpose: This study aimed to reduce the time it essentially takes to generate, obtain, manipulate, exchange, and securely store data that are associated with personnel competence training and assessments. Method: The study developed a software system that was integrated with a relational database management system (RDBMS) to improve manual/Excel-based data management procedures. To validate the efficiency of the software the mean operational times in using the Excel-based format were compared with that of the “New” software system. The data were obtained by performing four predefined core tasks for five hypothetical subjects using Excel and the “New” system (the model system) respectively. Results: It was verified that the average time to accomplish the specified tasks using the “New” system (37.08 seconds) was significantly (p = 0.00191, α = 0.05) lower than the time measurements for the Excel system (77.39 seconds) in the ANACHEM laboratory. The RDBMS-based “New” system provided operational (time) efficiency in the personnel training and competence assessment process in the QC laboratory and reduced human errors.

The Application and Impact of Flipped Classroom Model in Intercultural Communication Teaching

Flipped classroom, as a new teaching method, brings new perspectives and practices to intercultural communication teaching. This paper discusses the application of flipped classroom in intercultural communication classrooms to enhance students’ language proficiency, communication skills, and intercultural awareness. Firstly, the definitions and importance of flipped classroom and cultural communication are introduced. Then, the paper explores how to integrate the principles and methods of flipped classroom into the practice of intercultural communication teaching, including pre-class activities, in-class interactions, and reflection. Finally, the advantages and challenges of implementing flipped classroom in intercultural communication classrooms are summarized, along with practical recommendations.

The Washback Effect of Automated Essay Scoring on Undergraduates

This study explores the washback effect that automated essay scoring has on undergraduates of China.The main purpose of this study is to explore the effect that the automated essay scoring has on the writing ability of undergraduates.There are some significant differences in scores of composition between the experimental group and the control group.It is found that the holistic scores of the experimental group are higher than those of the control group.Some striking differences are found in syntactic fluency and complexity.It is found that the experimental group is more complex in syntactic fluency and complexity than the control group.The research indicates that,under the proper guidance of teachers,the AES can effectively improve the writing scores of undergraduates.

A Study of the Relationship between L2 Proficiency and Mother-tongue-reliance Strategies

By investigating the types of 371 non-English major freshmen's use of mother-tongue-reliance strategies in English languagelearning,the study showed that students' use of mother-tongue-reliance strategies would vary significantly with their different L2 profi-ciency.And it was negatively correlated with L2 proficiency.And the study discussed the implications to guide English language teach-ing and learning.

How to Create a Low-anxiety Environment for Chinese Learners of EFL to Enhance Oral Proficiency in Speaking Lessons

The goal of teaching English speaking is to improve students' communicative efficiency, or make students speak the target language clearly, coherently, accurately and fluently (Xu, 2005). However, in China, a number of students in an English speaking class tend to be passive and reluctant to speak out or be singled out publicly mainly due to their high anxiety, which, of course, becomes a significant constraint on improving their English proficiency. Therefore, how to create a relaxed atmosphere with a sense of security in the English speaking class to alleviate Chinese learners' anxiety and to provide them with as many opportunities as possible to practice speaking English and improve their English proficiency is one of the central tasks for language teachers.his paper will firstly outline my teaching context in China in physical, pedagogical, institutional and personal aspects. This will be followed by the definition and classification of language learning anxiety, and the analysis of various factors contributing to foreign language learners' anxiety as well as some suggestions of how to reduce the learners' anxiety in the oral class according to the current literature. Finally, some applications will be presented in my teaching context in the hope of decreasing Chinese students' anxiety to enhance their English speaking proficiency.

Pragmatic-oriented Approach to Teaching

Actions are performed via utterance, and speech acts apply to speakers’ communicative intention to produce an utterance. The simplest purpose of language learning is to communicate with others. Second language learners can have high-level of general language proficiency, when it comes to communicate they might encounter kinds of problems. This paper will discuss a point that it’s whether or not for language learners to speak fluently and sensitively a pragmatic-oriented approach more effective than traditional method. Pragmatic use of language is definitely different from syntactic use of language. Pragmatic training is that essential in teaching environment, for it’s absolute not just to tell learners how to design an idea and organize a sentence, but to instruct learners to say which utterance being proper and appropriate for a certain condition.
