However, learners are still weak in spelling and pronunciation. With the increase of learning content and the enlargement of vocabulary, learners' interest is decreasing. Based on the theoretical and practical considerations, this paper attempts to argue for the advantages and importance of phonics and to discuss how to apply phonics in primary English teaching. Phonics is an English teaching method which has the functions of pronunciation, spelling and reading. The key point of the phonics method is to build the corresponding relationship between English letters, letter patterns and sound. It can gradually develop learners' interest and build up learners' confidence in learning so that learners can learn and memorize words more effectively. Therefore,the conclusion can be drawn that phonics teaching method is becoming a main way in primary English teaching.展开更多
