The joining of Mg alloy to steel was realized by metal inert-gas arc welding, and the weld thermal cycle characteristics and Mg-steel joints were investigated. The results show that the temperature distribution in the joints is uneven. Mg alloy welds present a fine equiaxed grain structure. There exists a transition layer consisting mainly of AlFe, AlFe3 and Mg(Fe, Al)2O4 phases at Mg/steel interface, and it is the weakest link in Mg?steel joints. The welding heat input and weld Al content have the significant effect on the joint strength. The joint strength increases with increasing the heat input from 1680 J/cm to 2093 J/cm, due to promoting Mg/steel interface reaction. When weld Al content is increased to 6.20%, the joint strength reaches 192 MPa, 80% of Mg alloy base metal strength. It is favorable to select the suitable welding heat input and weld Al content for improving joint strength. 展开更多

A control system consisting of analogue parts was replaced with a new digital control implemented in a TMS320LF2407A DSP chip. The design and constructional features of the whole digital control were presented. The resources of the DSP chip were efficiently utilized and the circuits are very concise, which can enhance the stability and reliability of welding inverter. Experimental results demonstrate that the developed digital control has the ability to accomplish the excellent pulsed gas metal arc welding process and the merits of the developed digital control are stable welding process, little spatter and perfect weld appearance. 展开更多

Using highspeed camera image measuring and processing,the contour of the weld pool was extracted accurately in pulsed metal inert gas(P-MIG)welding.Based on this extraction method,time and frequency domain characteristics at different points along the contour of the weld pool were analyzed for one pulse one droplet and one pulse two droplets,respectively.The results show that,because of the wave super position that was created by the pulsed arc and droplet impacting the weld pool,the oscillation amplitude along the weld pool fluctuated and decreased with an increase in distance from the point to the arc center.The oscillation near the arc center was complex and intense for one pulse two droplets,and the amplitude were relatively small because the oscillation caused by the pulsed arc could be offset by the molten droplet impact.The weld pool oscillation that was caused by the pulsed arc was stronger than that caused by the droplet. 展开更多

25 mm thick micro-alloyed HSLA steel plate is welded by multi-pass GMAW and P-GMAW processes using conventional V-groove and suitably designed narrow gap with 20 mm(NG-20) and 13 mm(NG-13) groove openings.The variatio... 25 mm thick micro-alloyed HSLA steel plate is welded by multi-pass GMAW and P-GMAW processes using conventional V-groove and suitably designed narrow gap with 20 mm(NG-20) and 13 mm(NG-13) groove openings.The variation of weld metal chemistry in the multi pass GMA and P-GMA weld depositions are studied by spark emission spectroscopy.It is observed that the narrow groove GMA weld joint shows significant variation of weld metal chemistry compared to the conventional V-groove GMA weld joint since the dilution of base metal extends from the deposit adjacent to groove wall to weld center through dissolution by fusion and solid state diffusion.Further,it is noticed that a high rate of metal deposition along with high velocity of droplet transfer in P-GMAW process enhances the dilution of weld deposit and accordingly varies the chemical composition in multi-pass P-GMA weld deposit.Lower angle of attack to the groove wall surface along with low heat input in NG-13 weld groove minimizes the effect of dissolution by fusion and solid state diffusion from the deposit adjacent to groove wall to weld center.This results in more uniform properties of NG-13 P-GMA weld in comparison to those of NG-20 and CG welds. 展开更多

We report the growth of Al N epilayers on c-plane sapphire substrates by pulsed metal organic chemical vapor deposition(MOCVD). The sources of trimethylaluminium(TMAl) and ammonia were pulse introduced into the reactor to avoid the occurrence of the parasitic reaction. Through adjusting the duty cycle ratio of TMAl to ammonia from 0.8 to 3.0, the growth rate of Al N epilayers could be controlled in the range of 0.24 m/h to 0.93 m/h. The high-resolution x-ray diffraction(HRXRD) measurement showed that the full width at half maximum(FWHM) of the(0002) and(10-12) reflections for a sample would be 194 arcsec and 421 arcsec, respectively. The step-flow growth mode was observed in the sample with the atomic level flat surface steps, in which a root-mean-square(RMS) roughness was lower to 0.2 nm as tested by atomic force microscope(AFM). The growth process of Al N epilayers was discussed in terms of crystalline quality, surface morphology,and residual stress. 展开更多

Pulsed metal organic chemical vapor deposition is introduced into the growth of InGaN channel heterostructure for improving material qualities and transport properties. High-resolution transmission electron microscopy imaging shows the phase separation free InGaN channel with smooth and abrupt interface. A very high two-dimensional electron gas density of approximately 1.85 x 10^13 cm-2 is obtained due to the superior carrier confinement. In addition, the Hall mobility reaches 967 cruZ/V-s, owing to the suppression of interface roughness scattering. Furthermore, temperature-dependent Hall measurement results show that InGaN channel heterostructure possesses a steady two-dimensional electron gas density over the tested temperature range, and has superior transport properties at elevated temperatures compared with the traditional GaN channel heterostructure. The gratifying results imply that InGaN channel heterostructure grown by pulsed metal organic chemical vapor deposition is a promising candidate for microwave power devices. 展开更多

A new technique to synthesize poly(diphenylsilylenemethylene) (PDPhSM) matrix nanocomposite thin films containing metal nanoparticles such as Ni, AI, Zn, and W produced by pulsed laser ablation has been developed. First, 1,1,3,3-tetra- phenyl-1,3-disilacyclobutane (TPDC) films were deposited on 4 cm2 silicon substrates cut from c-Si wafers by conventional vacuum evaporation under a pressure of 4.0×10^-3 Pa; then metal nanoparticles were deposited onto the TPDC films by pulsed laser ablation; finally the TPDC films with metal nanoparticles were heated in an electric furnace in an air atmosphere at 553 K for 10 rain to induce ring-opening polymerization of TPDC. The results indicate that it is easy to synthesize metal/ PDPhSM nanocomposite thin films by pulsed laser ablation. The morphologies and size of metal nanoparticles are closely related to the kinds of metal. Also, the polymerization efficiency depends on the kinds of metal nanoparticles deposited on the TPDC monomer films by pulsed laser ablation. In addition, The laser ablated metal nanoparticles penetrate into the TPDC monomer films during pulsed laser ablation while the DC sputtered metal nanoparticles just lay on the surface of TPDC films. 展开更多

The Catalytic Effect of Metal Ions on the Degradation of 4-Chlorophenol Induced by an Aqueous Pulsed Discharge Plasma

The influence of metal ions, such as Fe^2+, Fe^3+, Cu^2+ and Mn^2+, on 4-CP degrada-tion was investigated in an aqueous pulsed discharge plasma system with or without the addition of a TiO2 photo-catalyst. From an analysis of the pseudo first-order rate constant (kcp) and energy efficiency (G50%) for 4-CP degradation, the experimental results show that the degrada- tion of 4-CP is much enhanced in the presence of ferrous ions at the optimal concentration of 0.2-0.8 mmol/L or 0.2 mmol/L in an aqueous pulsed discharge plasma without or with the TiO2 system, respectively, and the enhancement is ascribed to plasma induced Fenton and photo-Fenton reactions. Meanwhile, the rank of such metal ions for catalytic effect on 4-CP degradation was Fe^2+〉 Fe^3+ 〉 Cu^2+ 〉 Mn^2+ and Fe^2+ 〉 Fe^3+ 〉 Mn^2+ 〉 Cu^2+ for the former and the latter systems, respectively, and the reasons behind this were discussed through the analysis of active species, especially hydrogen peroxide. 展开更多

In a pulsed vacuum discharge,the ejection performance of a metal plasma jet can be effectively improved by preventing charged particles from moving to the anode.In this paper,the effects of resistance and capacitance on the anode side on the discharge characteristics and the generation characteristics of plasma jet are investigated.Results show that the existence of a resistor on the anode side can increase the anode potential,thereby preventing charged particles from entering the anode and promoting the ejection of charged particles along the axis of the insulating sleeve nozzle.The application of a capacitor on the anode side can not only absorb electrons at the initial stage of discharge,increasing the peak value of the cathode hump potential,but also prevent charged particles from moving to the anode,thereby improving the ejection performance of the plasma jet.In addition,the use of a larger resistance and a smaller capacitance can improve the blocking effect on charged particles and further improve the ejection performance of the plasma jet.Results of this study will provide a reference for the improvement of the ejection performance of plasma jets and their applications. 展开更多

Nearly lattice-matched InAIGaN/GaN heterostructure is grown on sapphire substrates by pulsed metal organic chemical vapor deposition and excellent high electron mobility transistors are fabricated on this heterostructure. The electron mobility is 1668.08cm2/V.s together with a high two-dimensional-electron-gas density of 1.43 × 10^13 cm-2 for the InAlCaN/CaN heterostructure of 2Onto InAlCaN quaternary barrier. High electron mobility transistors with gate dimensions of 1 × 50 μm2 and 4μm source-drain distance exhibit the maximum drain current of 763.91 mA/mm, the maximum extrinsic transconductance of 163.13 mS/mm, and current gain and maximum oscillation cutoff frequencies of 11 GHz and 21 GHz, respectively. 展开更多

In order to better understand the physical mechanism of sub-microsecond pulsed glow discharge with bare metal electrodes,using a one-dimensional self-consistent fluid model,the properties of the discharge at atmospheric pressure are numerically studied.The results show that,a discharge without dielectric layers,i.e.a barrier free discharge,is extinguished only with the decrease of the applied voltage.Only one positive discharge event occurs at the slope of the pulsed voltage.A stable glow of barrier free discharge can be achieved only in short durations of the pulsed voltage.The barrier free discharge always starts with a subnormal glow discharge and then evolves into a normal glow discharge.Moreover,to control the discharge stabilization better,the effects of pulse repetition frequency,pulse duration,rising(front) and falling(slope) times on the discharge characteristics are investigated systematically.It is found that the discharge is comparatively more sensitive to the repetition frequency and the pulse duration,while little affected by the rising and falling times. 展开更多

Joining of aluminum to steel has attracted significant attention from the welding research community,automotive and rail transportation industries.Many current welding methods have been developed and applied,however,they can not precisely control the heat input to work-piece,they are high costs,low efficiency and consist lots of complex welding devices,and the generated intermetallic compound layer in weld bead interface is thicker.A novel pulsed double electrode gas metal arc welding(Pulsed DE-GMAW)method is developed.To achieve a stable welding process for joining of aluminum to steel,a mathematical model of coupled arc is established,and a new control scheme that uses the average feedback arc voltage of main loop to adjust the wire feed speed to control coupled arc length is proposed and developed.Then,the impulse control simulation of coupled arc length,wire feed speed and wire extension is conducted to demonstrate the mathematical model and predict the stability of welding process by changing the distance of contact tip to work-piece(CTWD).To prove the proposed PSO based PID control scheme’s feasibility,the rapid prototyping experimental system is setup and the bead-on-plate control experiments are conducted to join aluminum to steel.The impulse control simulation shows that the established model can accurately represent the variation of coupled arc length,wire feed speed and the average main arc voltage when the welding process is disturbed,and the developed controller has a faster response and adjustment,only runs about 0.1 s.The captured electric signals show the main arc voltage gradually closes to the supposed arc voltage by adjusting the wire feed speed in 0.8 s.The obtained typical current waveform demonstrates that the main current can be reduced by controlling the bypass current under maintaining a relative large total current.The control experiment proves the accuracy of proposed model and feasibility of new control scheme further.The beautiful and smooth weld beads are also obtained by this method.Pulsed DE-GMAW can thus be considered as an alternative method for low cost,high efficiency joining of aluminum to steel. 展开更多

This review considers the fundamental dynamical processes of metal nanoparticles during and after the impact of a femtosecond laser pulse on a nanoparticle,including the absorption of photons.Understanding the sequence of events after photon absorption and their timescales is important for many applications of nanoparticles.Various processes are discussed,starting with optical absorption by electrons,proceeding through the relaxation of the electrons due to electron–electron scattering and electron–phonon coupling,and ending with the dissipation of the nanoparticle energy into the environment.The goal is to consider the timescales,values,and temperature dependences of the electron heat capacity and the electron–phonon coupling parameter that describe these processes and how these dependences affect the electron energy relaxation.Two-and four-temperature models for describing electron–phonon relaxation are discussed.Significant emphasis is paid to the proposed analytical approach to modeling processes during the action of a femtosecond laser pulse on a metal nanoparticle.These consider the temperature dependences of the electron heat capacity and the electron–phonon coupling factor of the metal.The entire process is divided into four stages:(1)the heating of the electron system by a pulse,(2)electron thermalization,(3)electron–phonon energy exchange and the equalization of the temperature of the electrons with the lattice,and(4)cooling of the nanoparticle.There is an appropriate analytical description of each stage.The four-temperature model can estimate the parameters of the laser and nanoparticles needed for applications of femtosecond laser pulses and nanoparticles. 展开更多

In order to detect the crack on conductive component,the pulsed eddy current thermography models were built according to different materials with the cracks based on finite element method(FEM) simulation. The influence of the induction heating temperature distribution with the different defect depths were simulated for the carbon fiber reinforced plastic(CFRP) materials and general metal materials. The grey value of image sequence was extracted to analyze its relationship with the depth of crack. Simulative and experimental results show that in the carbon fiber reinforced composite materials,the bigger depth of the crack is,the larger temperature rise of the crack during the heating phase is; and the bigger depth of the crack is,the faster the cooling rate of the crack during the cooling phase is. In general metal materials,the smaller depth of the crack is,the lager temperature rise of the crack during the heating phase is; and the smaller depth of the crack is,the faster the cooling rate of crack during the cooling phase is. 展开更多
